35th ANNUAL COOPERSBURG COLLECTOR CAR SHOW -

PHOTO 1 - I spotted this Grand National artwork on the inside of the trunk lid on a Grand National belonging to Garrett Harbeck from Quakertown. It was one of just two Grand Nationals at the 35th Annual Coopersburg Collector Car Show. The lower photo shows a very rare and unique award displayed on the center console of another Grand National at this event. The award plaque featured our Reunion dash plaque, 6 marbles and an inscribed plates that says PRESENTED TO THE BUICK VOTED "MOST POPULAR" AND "WORTH ALL THE MARBLES" at our 1992 Kirban Reunion event at the Johnsville Airbase in Warminster, PA. It's hard to believe that was over 20 years ago! The owner of this car is Linda Ehert from nearby Whitehall, PA.

GM AC DELCO T.P.S. SENSOR -

The 1986-1987 Turbo Regal AC Delco T.P.S. sensor was recently discontinued by GM. At an earlier point in time the company was known as "AC."

I just happen to have 3 different versions of the same GM T.P.S. sensor. You can see in the following photos how not only did the packaging from AC change, but the actual part had subtle changes too.

PHOTO 2 - From left to right (oldest to newest) we show the 3 various packaging methods GM used for the AC T.P.S. sensor. AC may have used others, but these are the 3 I have found.

The oldest version was the larger box to the far left. It simply had the GM part number 1#25036663, the group number 3.339, and the wording T.P.S. On the back of the box it does say "Made in Canada" and even gives the actual town located in Ontario. Notice the AC logo.

The middle box GM used was a smaller box and the logo simply read "DELCO." The overall design and colors of the box also changed. The part number is on the bottom panel and was the same part number. It also had the same group number 3.339. Instead of saying T.P.S. it simply said "SEN.," which I guess is short for sensor. On this box it just said, "MADE IN CANADA" with no reference as to what town.

The far right packaging design was a small clear plastic bag. The front of the bag had the GM part number, #25036663 the AC Delco part number 213-918 and the group number 3.339. It also said "MADE IN CANADA" It also listed the website, a 1995 copyright and a bar code on the bag.

PHOTO 3 - In this photo we show you the actual AC T.P.S. sensor in front of each package. Each T.P.S. sensor varies slightly from each other. All three have the last four digits of the GM part number 6663 on them, which may not show up in the photo. The middle one actually has the AC logo embossed on the part. The one to the far right, which came in the AC Delco bag, has a paper sticker on it that reads "MADE IN CANADA" in English and in French along with the Canadian Maple leaf symbol. The other two T.P.S. sensors don't have that label even though both boxes indicate they were made in Canada. We show the backs of each sensor in the lower photo.

At this point I was curious as to what the T.P.S. sensor looked like on our personal 1987 Turbo-T.

PHOTO 4 - Here is a photo showing the factory GM AC T.P.S. sensor on our car. It is identical to the one that was the earliest style, shown to the far left in Photo 3, which would have been the one in the largest box. NOTE - You can clearly read the last 4 digits of the Part # - 6663 - noted by the red arrow.

Based on this, I assume the one on our car is what came on the engine when the car was new.

So, if you claim your 1986-1987 Turbo Regal is 100% original like it came from the factory, it should probably have this same AC T.P.S. sensor shown in Photo 4.

The good news is, very few people (outside of Richard Clark) will ever know which AC T.P.S. sensor version was original factory equipment.

At this point, I have not examined any of the aftermarket ones to see how they compare to the AC TPS sensor.

For those that may not know what T.P.S. stands for, it stands for "Throttle Position Sensor." My technical knowledge on what it does ends with that, unless I did further research!!

More next week about AC and Delco.

9-11 ANNIVERSARY -

I am sure many of you watched the various TV shows this past Sunday related to the 10th Anniversary of 9-11. It's one of those dates that all of us clearly remember where we were and what we were doing that fateful morning.

I know I do. I was actually with Pete Serio driving back that morning from Nashville, Tennessee with a WE4 on my car trailer. We were listening to CDs that morning, so we had no idea about the current events unfolding.

It wasn't until we stopped at an Applebees in Columbus for lunch that Pete and I noticed the coverage on TV in the restaurant. Pete and I just sat there in awe like many Americans did that day. Later that day I would travel through western, PA and take notice as to the high number of state troopers that were on the road in that part of the state. (I passed near the area where the last plane went down in the field.)

It's a day that all of us Americans will remember the rest of our lives. The same can be said for other major disasters, such as the day President John Kennedy was shot, the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, or the day the Hindenburg went down. These are all major events that happened on U.S. soil that we or other members of our families clearly remember.

DISCONTINUED PART -

Our Part #7297, the VDO cockpit series that reads 30 vacuum with 25 psi boost on the same dial has been discontinued. VDO has retained the same part number but has changed the face and now the boost side only goes to 20 psi. If you plan to order this gauge from any of the major mail-order companies, you should request a photo first of the gauge they have in stock. Since VDO retained the same exact part number when they made this change to the gauge, you don't know which one you may get!

GRAY PALLEX SEAT MATERIAL UPDATE -

Currently we have less than half of our roll left, as several customers have bought 2 and 3 sections of it to do several cars. So, if you have a 1985-1987 Grand National, you may want to get a sample of this material to see if it's something you want to have tucked away. Most of the pallex material you find today from companies sells for over $75 to $95 a yard.

We do NOT have the black pallex material. In many cases, the original black material should be good enough to simply re-use and install the new gray pallex material. The black is a lot easier to match whereas the gray is something that can vary. Keep in mind, before we sell you any material, please email me your name and address so I can send you a sample. That way, you know the exact shade of gray material you would receive - denniskirban@yahoo.com

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - denniskirban@yahoo.com.

ALWAYS IN A BUYING POSITION WORKS -

Got any turbo parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - denniskirban@yahoo.com.

Also, we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.

31st ANNUAL GS NATIONALS - BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY
OCTOBER 19-22, 2011 - Beech Bend Raceway, Bowling Green, KY

The 31st Annual GS Nationals will be held October 19-22 in Bowling Green, KY. Last year the weather was just perfect with autumn colors greeting us on the beautiful drive there. The GS Nationals is by far the largest and longest running Buick musclecar event in the world. There will be many race classes, the usual big Friday Car Show, swap meet, Vendor's Row and even tech seminars.

For the turbo V-6 guys, John Gallina and crew will return once again with Kenny Duttweiler for even deeper blasts into the 6's, eclipsing last year's 6.85/204 mph pass! Hope to see all you hard-core Buick fans there to share the fun! No pre-registration is necessary.

We will be in attendance as a vendor. This event replaces the one that used to be held in May each year.

For more information, check out their website - http://www.gsnationals.com

IN CLOSING -

Today (9-14-11) I turned 64. I recently started to use my AARP card to get motel discounts!

It's a good thing God said he would not let it rain for 40 days and 40 nights again. Although this area of the country has come close!

Be sure to mark the date for our Fall Open House - October 8th.
