UNIQUE BUICK DEALERSHIP DISPLAY -
A few weeks back, a long-time customer of ours from the northwest emailed me. He had a Buick display he had gotten from someone who had gotten it years earlier from a local Buick dealership.
Once he emailed me the photos, I was intrigued as I had never seen this type of display before. Although it is not exactly turbo related, it is from that time period (1980s-1987) since it focuses on the Hawk logo and the advantages of the new V6 powerplant from Buick.
The laminated sign part is identical on both sides. The actual engine block appears to be made from some sort of styrofoam material. The overall height is 4 feet. The part number on the dummy block is 1249432. The stand part is plexiglass.
The sign reads, "Nice going, Shorty. - Gutsy like a V-8. Economical like a 6. - BUICK Dedicated to the Free Spirit in just about everyone."
PHOTO 1 - Shows this Buick display underneath a factory Buick Grand National poster (signed by Molly in the lower right corner) that Buick produced in 1984. We show the display at another angle in the other photo.
These two items are part of our personal Buick collection and are not for sale.
If any of our readers has more information on this, please email me as we would like to hear from you - firstname.lastname@example.org
BUICK LITERATURE - PART 1
Probably the number one priority for any car collector in the way of related literature, is to obtain the original window sticker. In most cases, that is the most sought after "piece of paper."
I have the window sticker for 3 of the vehicles I own, not because they are all collectible cars, but because it's nice to have when I go to sell them at some point.
In many cases, if you get the original window sticker when you purchase a used car, it means the original owner kept records, which can add to the value at sale time.
Window stickers became law with the 1958 American cars. Basically, it was designed to show the manufacturer's suggested prices and show all the options installed at the factory.
Of course, the format and design has changed over the years. I'm sure the early ones did not reflect city mpg and highway mpg, like the current ones! Back in 1958, gas was less than 25 cents per gallon!
In Photo 2 we show the window sticker for the car we would all like to have; the GNX. Since all the GNXs were equipped the same, everything was preprinted down to and including the total price. The only additions or changes to that total price would be the any state taxes and any additional equipment or "adjusted market value" a dealer would tack on.
The set price for the GNX option over the standard Grand National price was $10,995. Destination charge was standard across the board - in 1987 it was $430. It didn’t matter if you picked the GNX up 2 blocks from ASC or 3,000 miles away, it was still a $430 destination charge.
For example, I have a window sticker to my 1997 Riviera and the destination charge in 1997 was $665 (10 years later). I can only assume it has increased even more by 2010!
PHOTO 2 - Shows a copy of an original "asc McLaren" GNX window sticker. It measures 11" x 13". In case you're wondering, the 15 mpg for city and 23 mpg highway was slightly less on the GNX over a regular Turbo Regal. It was 2 mpg less in both city and highway, not that any owner minded that difference!
The second picture shows a copy of a portion of the "Dealer Addendum." This was never good news for customers, as it would reflect any dealer installed options or, in this case, a tag line stating "Adjusted Market Value," which was an additional $10,605.00 on this particular GNX. This dealer also charged $100 for undercoating. Obviously, back then this dealer did not miss a trick to "bumping" up the price on a GNX.
In this next photo we show something most GNX owners have probably something you have never seen. ASC like car companies also published full color brochures highlighting some of their modified automotive achievements.
PHOTO 3 - Shows an original ASC brochure. It may not be visible but on the bright red cover in the upper right hand corner the ASC logo and letters are embossed. This brochure is dated 1988 and it measures 8-1/2" x 11" and only 20 pages. The car under the heading "Modified Class" shows the newly released GNX. The upper right corners says, "All 500 GNX special editions were identically equipped with a full complement of Grand National options plus a ceramic turbine turbocharger, high-efficiency intercooler, special PROM and redesigned suspension." In that write up, it talks about making 500 of them. As you know, that number is incorrect, since the final number was 547.

ANOTHER TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE - Part 2
As a follow up to last week's article, here are two more photos of our award winning 1947 Studebaker pickup truck.
PHOTO 4 - The top photo shows my 2 Studebaker trucks. The lower photo shows a close up of my truck sitting on top of my 1947 Studebaker ramp truck. The 6-foot-high Pepsi bottles were plastic blow-ups. My wife's cousin crafted a wooden box replica of the bottle carrier, complete with Pepsi logos, that fit into the bed. So, it appeared to be a large 6-pack of Pepsi bottles. (Pepsi is my favorite drink).
When we traveled, the bottles were deflated for transport and then pumped up at shows. This made our pickup truck stand out in a crowd of show trucks.
The Studebaker ramp truck was powered by a 1957 Lincoln V8 engine through a manual transmission with an overdrive setup. It was a very neat rig as the larger Studebaker trucks were quite rare back in the early 1970s.
As we re-discover more old photos, we will continue to relate similar stories to our readers. Enjoy!
GREAT NEWS - GNX STYLE WHEELS BACK IN STOCK -
We just received news that the GNX-style wheels are now in stock! We have only been able to get a few sets for over a year. If you are interested, call our office - 215-766-1611.
Here's a link to these wheels on our website -
Here's complete information about these impressive wheels.
1984-1987 Regal -
GNX - TRANS AM STYLE 16" x 8
Because of requests, we now offer another option for the popular GNX-style wheels.
These GNX - TRANS AM style wheels have the black mesh center and are 16" x 8" with the proper offset to fit the 1984-1987 Regals. These resemble the popular original GNX wheels. Do not confuse this with the version we have sold in the past, known as "Kirban-Style" GNX wheels.
These wheels are manufactured with brand new tooling and are clearcoated. Wheels have the proper offset to fit under your fenders. We sell these as a complete set of 4 wheels, 20 correct lug nuts, 20 lug nut black caps, 4 chrome-plated valve stems, 4 black center caps, and 4 "TURBOCHARGED" center cap decals.
The original center caps on the original GNX were actually the existing Trans Am caps. GM simply affixed the "GNX" paper decal over the Trans Am medallion. This set includes the "TURBOCHARGED" Decals (4) Set, Part #7113.
If you own a 1984, 1985, or 1986 Turbo Regal the GM front springs on these years were a different spring rate. You will need to change the front springs to avoid having the tires rub when you go over bumps. We recommend our front springs, Part #6566. If you plan on carrying heavy items in the trunk or four friends, we recommend you upgrade the rear springs to our variable rate rear springs, Part #1520 on any 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987 Regal.
For shocks the best ones you can buy are the Bilsteins to further improve the ride quality of your Turbo Regal. The overall height is actually slightly less than what is currently on the car. The speedometer is not affected.
Originally the GNX used 245/50s by 16s up front and 255/50s by 16 in the rear. For best results, we recommend going with 245/50s on the fronts and the backs. Depending on the year Turbo Regal and what suspension upgrades you have made, we do not recommend the larger 255/50s for the rear. However, if you want to go with 255/50s in the rear, trial fit these wheels first to be sure you have enough clearance.
The good news is these wheels will look pretty much dead on with the mesh black center that matches the original GNX mesh center. They are 100% brand new and weigh about 18 lbs each. Of all the available optional wheels, these are the most desirable and can really enhance your pride and joy.
Keep in mind, we will take good used original Grand National wheels in partial trade. This can help save you some money, since you also need to buy new tires.
Wheels are dropped shipped from California. We would send your receipt, 20 lug nuts, 4 center caps, 4 wheel decals, and 4 valve stems direct from our Pennsylvania location. Shipping is calculated from California, generally costs about $65-$125.

URGENT REQUEST - WE NEED TURBO CORES! -
We need stock 1986-1987 Turbo Regal turbos for cores.
For each complete turbo you send us, you will received either a check for $75 for or a Letter of Credit for $100 for any parts listed on our website. Just specify which you want for your turbo.
By sending us complete cores, it enables us to supply other owners with rebuilt units and also our TA 49 versions. The TA 49 turbos we sell require the use of the stock exhaust housing. By using that section, no low-end torque is lost in regular street driving.
THANK YOU for helping to keep the parts available for other Turbo Regal owners.

GOOD NEWS ON ANOTHER NEW PART IN THE WORKS -
One of the parts in the works for summer is the factory-style HEADERS for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. We expect to also have the driver's side alone available as well. They will be made from 409 stainless. As delivery time draws closer, we will have a special introductory price to determine initial sales response.
We have recently been informed that the mounting flange will be changed to accept the various style cylinder heads.
Watch for updates on this project.
ALWAYS IN A BUYING POSITION WORKS -
Got any Turbo parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - email@example.com -
Also we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.
GM PARTS UPDATE -
It appears that the GM supply of the factory 1986-1987 GM factory original molded boost line kits are dwindling and may already have disappeared from GM's warehouses inventory. We currently have a decent supply of them.
This is a very critical part, for any 1986-1987 Turbo Regal, since it is needed to control boost. They have 3 specially formed hoses with a special size diameter T in between two of the molded hoses. These also have the GM wording on them.
Over a period of time, heat can cause the hoses to swell and crack. While they last, we have them available for $44.95 plus shipping, Part #6644. Supplies are limited.

INFORMATION ON A GOOD CAUSE - CANCER WALK -
NOTE - THANKS to those who have already contributed or plan to contribute to this great cause. We've heard from readers who have had Breast Cancer affect their immediate family. Thanks so much.
Our daughter-in-law Carrie has committed to a 60-mile, 3-day walk in October to raise money for Cancer research. Many of you have met her at our events. She needs to have $2300 raised by August 1st. If you would like to help with this fundraiser for a good cause, here is the information and a message from Carrie.
Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ Walk - Carrie Kirban
I have taken on an incredible challenge. On October 15-17, 2010, I'll be walking 60 miles over the course of three days, camping out at night with thousands of other women and men taking this journey with me. I have committed to raise $2300 to be able to participate in the walk. The money I need to raise goes to cancer research and I pay for my expenses separately.
It's for an event called the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™. Net proceeds from the Komen 3-Day for the Cure are invested in community-based breast health programs and breast cancer research.
You never know who this disease will strike next. My prayers go out to all of my friends and family that have been affected with this disease. Let's find a Cure! To make a donation, go to - The3Day.org - Click on Donate and search for my personal fundraising page under Carrie Kirban.
