1986-1987 Turbo Regal -
K&N 9″ CONE AIR FILTER
This is one of the easiest and best improvements you can make to get more air to your engine. You can use either the 8″ or 9″ K&N filter, since either will fit depending on which mass air pipe you use.
The 8″ filter will fit with our mass air pipe and most of the others. The 8″ kit is Part #1546
The 9″ may require you to relocate the black evaporator can down closer to the steering box. This is easy to do.
Both filters come complete with a special new mass air flow bracket (shown below) and instructions. This bracket will hold the mass air flow sensor unit to the alternator. In some cases, it may not be needed if the mass air pipe is lightweight (such as our unit).
Installing this new bracket does require drilling two small holes in your alternator bracket. Your stock enclosed air filter is too restrictive and chokes your system. Going with the cone design is the most popular choice of Turbo Buick owners.
When purchasing this item you may also want to consider Black Powder-coated ALUMINUM MASS AIR FLOW PIPE #6719 or POLISHED ALUMINUM MASS AIR FLOW PIPE #6975.
By replacing the factory flexible mass air duct with either of these light weight mass air pipes provide better stability for the filter.
NOTE - Neither filter will work with your stock GM air duct system. You need to change to a new mass air flow pipe to the turbo.
