THE KIRBAN AUTO EASEL™ - CAR SHOW DISPLAY HOOD LATCH STAND

A collaboration of 3 Kirban generations.

I had this idea to design a high-quality sign display to compliment your pride and joy at car shows. However, I was stuck on how to secure it on various cars. The challenges were where to attach the display stand, how to secure it, how to make it easy to read, and to make it easy to install. Our main target market was for 1982-1987 G-Body cars.

These photos show a typical 8-½" x 11" size poster and a 11" x 17" size poster and in various directions - vertical and horizontal - on Eric Opper's show-quality 1987 Grand National.

With the help of our talented son Darrell and granddaughter Devyn (who is working on a Engineering Science and Mechanics degree at Penn State), they solved the issues and even made the prototype complete with drawings so it could be made by a local machine shop.

The idea was to make a reasonably priced, high-quality, easy-to-use display for those of you that display your pride and joy at car shows. It had to be a quality piece that would compliment a show car, and had to be able to withstand the wind and wouldn't trip any spectators.

When the prototype was being designed, I noticed the overall format resembled the same height and angle as a 6" Hurst shifter handle. That lead to a second design using a new original Hurst handle. I am confident it will be very popular among

the owners of older muscle cars, since the Hurst name is very well known in the American Muscle car world.

We offer two versions. One version has a polished stainless 6" angled handle. The other version uses a brand new original Hurst 6" angled handle. Using an actual Hurst handle compliments many of the older performance cars, many of which have Hurst shifters. Our design allows customer to simply switch handles if they desire to buy the Hurst handle later. The modified clamp is designed for both styles of handles.

By making it attach to the hood latch assembly on the core support, it eliminates any issues with the wind knocking the display over or someone stepping on it. The aluminum panel allows the information sign to be 8-½" x 11" or 11" x 17" or even larger when mounted to a poster board. It can be viewed either vertically or horizontally by adjusting the mounting hardware on the back of the panel. The end result is a display stand perfectly centered in front of your show car or truck, but at the perfect angle and height for easy reading by spectators.

The stand only requires one bolt to install and release the clamp, which makes it easy to set up and take down. It is probably the first car show display of its kind that offers so many options instead of dictating one specific size and what direction the display needs to be.

There has been careful attention to detail by only using stainless hardware, powder coating the actual clamp black, rubber coating the bottom portion of the clamp to avoid scratching the hood latch and having the actual display panel switchable from vertical to horizontal depending on your information poster.

Also, you are not limited to size of your display as the display panel is aluminum so any size poster board can easily be attached to it. Basically, you can go as big as 24" x 24" or more. We include reusable, removable poster adhesive putty to attach your poster to the aluminum panel.

The angle of either handle easily clears the front header panel and any header ornament. The hood latch is quite sturdy making it the perfect part to attach the Auto Easel to. One allen wrench (included in the kit) is all that is needed to secure the Auto Easel to your car.

At under 2 lbs, it is very light. It can easily be stored in the trunk or garage when not in use.

It is not affected by wind or someone tripping over the sign, so this is the perfect solution.

Initial research has shown this will fit virtually any car or truck from the 1960s and newer as long as the hood latch is on the core support and sticks up by at least 1-½". It even fits some vehicles that have a hole on the core support instead of the hood latch. The hole on those cars is large enough to have the clamp fit in the hole and secure the display. One example is 1966-1967 Pontiac GTOs.

If you display your car, this Auto Easel is the hot ticket for a compact easy-to-set-up display stand. Once others see it at car shows, they will want to know where you got it.

Each Auto Easel Kit weighs just under 2 lbs. It comes with easy-to-follow directions and a packet of removable poster adhesive putty to adhere your information poster to the aluminum panel.

All the stainless hardware (so it won't rust) is included in the kit.

The two-piece clamp is powder-coated glossy black for a lasting appearance.

The bottom portion of the clamp has a rubber coating to prevent scratches to the hood latch assembly.

An allen wrench is included that fits the main allen bolt to secure the clamp.

The display panel measures 7-½" x 10". The panel is aluminum with a brushed finish backside. The display panel is designed to flip in either direction - vertical or horizontal - depending on your poster information.

The angle and proper height of the mounting panel is perfect for spectators to easily read the information.

KIT #7780 - The handle is polished stainless with a slight curve, and is about 6" long.

KIT #7881 -The handle is a brand new original HURST curved handle, and is about 6" long.

Your information first needs to be mounted on a poster board material (like foamcore) or printed on a poster board. This makes your information board rigid enough so that your display can be almost any size and it can easily be secured to the display panel.

We recommend the poster not be larger than 24" x 24". If it's larger, it may block viewing of the front of the engine compartment. However, some cars may have a larger engine compartment area that could hold a larger poster.

All you need to do is design your information sign/poster to display at a car show event. It's also a perfect place to mount a "FOR SALE" or "PARTS WANTED" sign.

NOTE - We think some people will purchase the polished handle unit (#7880) and later may want to have the HURST handle. So, we offer the Hurst handle with the hardware separately, part #7882. No need to purchase an entire new kit.

Remember, you have flexibility of the size of your poster display, and it can be mounted either vertical or horizontal. Your display piece must be printed on a poster board or mounted on a poster board before attaching it to the display panel.
