Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 01-07-2015

JANUARY CARTOON -

PHOTO 1 - Our first photo is this month’s “Adventures of Tommy Turbo” cartoon. In honor of the New Year 2015 the caption reads, “Here ya go kid, treat it right and it won’t let ya down.”

We also had the same artist, Fred Boatman, do a clever cartoon for our son as a Christmas gift. As many of you know, he and Carrie own Kirban Customs, a body shop next door to our house.

PHOTO 2 - The caption reads, “It’s a “Thank You” note from Kirban Customs for all the work we sent him.”

NEW YEARS CONTEST -

Our New Year’s Contest can be seen in the next photo. Our M&Ms contests are long-time traditions and the rules are quite simple. You get one guess. Closest guess UNDER the actual count is the winner. In case of a tie, both will be named the winners - the first winning guess we receive will get First Place and the other will receive Second Place. Contest is open to all readers of this Inner Circle.

You must email me direct - [email protected] - Include your name, your guess and your phone number!

The deadline is Saturday, January 10th, 2015, 12 midnight eastern time.

Prizes - First place gets the actual container and a $50 Gift Certificate. Second place receives a $25 Gift Certificate.

PHOTO 3 - Shows the plastic drinking glass filled with M&Ms along side of an empty container. Here are the basic clues. The drinking glass measures about 6 inches tall. Notice there is something at the bottom, which limits the amount of M&Ms needed to fill the container.

Good luck to all participants!

THE NEW YEAR 2015 -

The New Year 2015 marks the 50th year since I graduated from High School in 1965. My wife Eileen was two years behind me, graduating in 1967.

I had Eileen find her yearbook to see what memories it would jog for me. She has our High School yearbooks for 1964, 1965, and 1967 in her collection. Eileen’s sister Paulette was actually in my graduating class. We went a small school and my graduating class was just under a total of 100 students.

PHOTO 4 - Shows the cover of our 1965 Lower Moreland High School yearbook, called the Elmleo. The second photo shows a photo of me. The caption reads, “Man is the maker of his own happiness. Credited with a professional flair, Dennis was known as one of the most businesslike members of the class. This trait will be of great help to him in anything he undertakes in the future.”

It’s hard to believe that it was 50 years ago this June that I graduated from High School.

NEW LOWER PRICES ON KEY BLANKS -

We found a new source for key blanks and the company has granted our company exclusive rights to marketing all their lock sets for the G-body market. Their supplier is actually the original supplier to GM.

So, our part #7164 and #7166 are now just $3.95 per set! If you buy 2 sets, which are part numbers #7165 and #7167, the price is now just $6.95 for two sets.

Next week we should have complete door and trunk lock sets available with two pre-cut keys. This would be for the black-out option and also the bright stainless lock sets used on the 1987 Turbo-T cars.

We will also have and ignition lock with two pre-cut keys and original glove box locks for our cars.

These kits will be complete with two pre-cut keys and the locks are assembled with the correct bezels on the face of each lock. This is ideal if you are getting your car repainted or want to have your doors and trunk keyed alike.

These are exactly like GM made, and are manufactured by the supplier to GM. All that is lacking is the GM bag or box that GM would have packaged them in. These will be advertised as original equipment (OE).

BUICK AND POSSIBILITY OF A NEW GNX AND GRAND NATIONAL -

Over the last year, there has been much speculation about Buick bringing out a new GNX and possibly a Grand National.

My thoughts are it probably will not happen unless the plan is to do a limited production GNX as a halo car for the Buick Division.

Here is my reasoning. I just read that the new Chevrolet Impala SS that came out in 2014 ended the year as the worst selling vehicle in the Chevrolet line up with only 2,386 sold. Keep in mind, this is a $46,000 car.

With disappointing sales of a performance sedan, if the plan was to do a four-door sedan GNX or Grand National, you can see why GM may reconsider the project. To capture the market that remembers the Grand National and GNX it would have to be a two-door model. Also even though Buick came out with a Regal T model a few years back on their Regal four-door sedan, for whatever reason you do not see many of them on the road today. That particular model has been available for at least two years.

It appears that the Cadillac is capturing the performance market with their coupes and sedans. They also are a huge value when they become a used car. Remember profit is driven by numbers - numbers of vehicles expected to sell and numbers against cost versus the selling point.

You don’t have to look any further than to Pontiac back in 2004 when they brought back the GTO. Sales for that model were also disappointing, even when they made some changes and upgrades for the 2005 and 2006 model years. Again I am by no means an expert, but merely pointing out points of interest that I feel may figure into GM’s thinking.

KEN MOORE PASSED AWAY IN EARLY DECEMBER -

Ken Moore passed away ironically, on December 7th, 2014, at the age of 90.

In the middle of World War II’s bloodiest battles, the 1944 D-Day invasion of Western Europe, there was a small sanctuary where no fighting was permitted. In a small village church in France, Ken Moore and Bob Wright (two U.S. Army medics) cared for dozens of wounded soldiers. They actually used church pews as makeshift beds.

Even when they were told the enemy would overrun the village, they refused to leave. With hardly any supplies they stayed to administer aid, not only to wounded U.S. soldiers but Germans as well.

In all Ken Moore and Bob Wright treated more than 80 soldiers, including a dozen Germans.

The church was built during the 12th century. It is located in the village of Angoville-au-Plain in France.

Both could have been killed as the German forces advanced. Upon coming to the church, the Germans left without incident after seeing both sides being treated. The stone church commemorates the medic’s actions with a monument on the edge of the adjoining cemetery. The blood stains can still be seen in the church pews.

Bob Wright died last year. After reading this article, I think it is remarkable that both of these men lived to a ripe old age. Maybe that was God’s way of thanking them for what they did in that small church in France.

HERE IS A HELPFUL HINT -

Here is a hint that I found that works for me at my shop at home. I spent a lot of time detailing and cleaning parts that I either sell on ebay or to other companies. Like most of you, I have a nice wooden work bench that can get dirty, making it difficult to properly clean something I want to restore and resell.

Since I go to various You Pull It Yards on the weekends, I have gotten several very nice carpeted mats from SUVs. The long and narrow width mats work great when put down on my workbench. It keeps whatever I am detailing from getting dirty or ruined. Also, our cats like laying on them!

MORE NEWS ON THE MULTI-FUNCTION JUMP STARTERS -

As you read this issue, we have several of the new smaller multi-function jump starters to examine. This new smaller unit will match the power of most of the ones available at 200 cranking and 400 peak amps and still be strong enough to jump start gas powered cars several times! It is smaller and thinner than the current one we market. It the ideal choice for woman to carry in their purse or store in a car. Small enough to charge multi devices and jump start their car. The approximate weight is a mere 7 ounces! It will retail for less than $100!

We approved the actual housing for this unit. We are currently testing this new module.

We are also testing samples of a new related product they are making for us. Although not car related, it will be something that we expect a huge demand for its use.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1983-1993 GM (Including 1984-1987
Buick Turbo Regal) - Reproduction DIAGNOSTIC ALDL CONNECTOR PORT

This reproduction cover simply slips over the ALDL connector located under the radio/heater. It’s a nice finishing touch even though GM never put a trim cover on the Turbo Regals. However, this was a factory item on some of the 1980s and 1990s Corvettes.

These photos show the interior placement with and without the trim cover on the diagnostic connector port.

Another nice interior restoration item.

4-IN-1 CHARGING CORD WITH MICRO USB CONNECTOR -
iPhone / Laptops / SmartPhones / Tablets / Notebooks

Introducing one of the greatest products that makes charging your electronics easy - a single USB connector cord with 4 individual adapters. By having four different adapters into one cord, it eliminates the need to carry a specific cord for each of your different electronic devices. You can also charge several devices at the same time. It’s also handy if someone nearby doesn’t have their cord and their device needs to be charged.

Why have a different charging cord for all your various electronic devices? This single four way cord will fit most major brands of electronic devices, such as cell phones, tablets, iPads, notebooks, etc.

Cord is white and measures 14" long from end to end. There are four micro adapters with a USB connector at the opposite end. The USB connector plugs into any charger you have with a USB port.

One adapter has a 30-pin connector and another has a 8-pin connector, compatible for iPhones 3, 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 6, iPad mini, iPad air, and iPod. The other adapters will charge most android phones, such as Samsung Galaxy, S3, S4, S5, Nokia, Nexus, most older cell phones, and some GPS devices.

The cost for any single cord for your electronics is usually $15 or more and is usually more for the iPhones. This single cord with 4 individual adapters includes the two versions for Apple products besides two other connectors that virtually will work on all the other android phones, as well as older cell phones and some GPS devices.

It pays to buy two, since shipping is the same cost whether you buy one or two.

A very convenient 4-IN-1 cord that eliminates the need for different cords for your mobile electronic devices.

This is the perfect cord to keep at home and have another one at work. It also makes a great gift, since it's something everyone can use.

An excellent way to keep all of your electronics charged using one cord.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
Reproduction 3-BAR MAP SENSOR

The original map sensor is only a 2-bar, which will not allow the boost reading to go above 20 psi.

The 3-bar map sensor was a factory item found in the 1989 Turbo Trans Am. This 3-bar map sensor allows you to read boost values above 20 psi.

It will work with a stock boost levels as well.

Another nice upgrade that allows proper reading of boost values above 20 psi, if your Turbo Regal is modified.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
Reproduction O-RINGS KITS

Richard Clark has painstakingly put together 2 kits of reproduction O-rings.

O-rings are available in two kits:

#7633 has 14 O-rings for the injectors and fuel pressure regulator.

#7634 has 35 O-rings. These 35 O-rings will fit virtually every application related to the fuel, lubricants, transmission, and powermaster unit. This kit also includes the 14 O-rings in the #7633 kit for the injectors and fuel pressure regulator.

NOTE - The transmission and powermaster O-rings are for external leaks, and NOT for a complete overhaul.

In many cases, the same O-rings will work on the 1984-1985 Turbo Regal.

Since GM has discontinued many of the Buick O-rings, Richard has had to have some of the O-rings reproduced. In one particular case, the O-ring listed for over $20 from GM, making this kit a bargain.

Kit #7634 includes a real-size drawing to ensure that the correct O-rings can be easily identified. The O-rings should match the drawing exactly.

The O-rings are made of different materials based on the fluid they contact, so no O-rings from any group should ever be used for an application not specified.

In some cases, the original O-rings have been problematic on these cars. The O-rings in this kit has been improved to offer better than original performance.

Any time connections are disturbed, the O-rings should be replaced with new ones.

This kit is the first of its kind specifically for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals.

A must have item for any 1986-1987 Turbo Regal owner. You should have this kit on hand.

NOTE - We recommend these O-rings be installed by a qualified mechanic.

NOTE - The 14 O-rings in Kit #7633 are INCLUDED in the 35 O-rings in Kit #7634.

Great engine restoration items.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

Be sure to try your luck at our annual M&M contest. Remember, the deadline is Saturday, January 10th, 2015, 12 midnight eastern time.
