MORE VINTAGE TURBO REGAL COMPANY CATALOGS -

We recently acquired more old vintage catalogs from past Turbo Regal suppliers.

A long-time customer of ours had a huge assortment of various vintage Turbo Regal catalogs representing several companies that have long disappeared. We made a deal to acquire them.

While many of my readers are familiar with ATR, Kenne Bell, and Bowling Green Customs, long-time customers may recall some of the lesser known Turbo Regal mail-order companies that we have pictured in the below photos. If you show your car, these original catalogs make excellent display items as it’s all part of the early history of the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals.

PHOTO 1 - Shows what I believe are four of the most rare catalogs for Turbo Regal mail-order companies that have disappeared over the years. The small yellow one is a Zero to Sixty Performance Products catalog dated 1994. The owner of Zero to Sixty, Trey Crease, rented part of our old shop in the 1990s and prior to him starting his business he worked for us. The other small catalog is from Tapsco. They were located in Garden Grove, California. I must confess, I’m not familiar with them. This catalog is dated 1995. The blue catalog is from Eastern Performance, which was located near us in eastern Pennsylvania. It is dated 1992. Last, but not least, is an ANS Performance Products catalog dated 1992, when they were located in Melrose Park, Illinois. ANS sold some of our parts back in the day. These Turbo Regal mail-order companies were some of the early pioneers and, for various reasons, are no longer in business. See Rare Parts section since all of these catalogs are for sale.

PHOTO 2 - The top photo is a copy of Kenne Bell’s 1988 catalog and an ATR 1994 catalog. These were probably the two big leaders in performance upgrades for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals back in the day. The bottom photo shows Poston Enterprises summer 1996 catalog alongside Bowling Green Customs 1994 catalog when it was owned by the second owner in Roswell, Georgia. See the Rare Parts section, since these and several other original vintage Turbo Regal catalogs are for sale.

POSTON ENTERPRISES -

Poston Enterprises was probably one of the oldest Buick mail-order companies (besides Kenne Bell.) Poston started back when I did. They focused on the early GS Buicks of the 1960s and 1970s, before expanding into the Turbo Regal market. I originally dealt with the Pontiac GTOs. Poston carried many of our products back in the 1980s since we already had a working relationship with them selling parts for the older GS Buick models. We made some of the early reproduction radiator shrouds for the 1965-1967 GS models.

Since the internet is now the place to go for buying products, printed catalogs have gone away, just like photograph negatives. Both formats are now mostly a thing of the past! Ironically, in the 1970s, we owned a printing business and I also was a wedding photographer and a photographer while I was stationed in Vietnam.

1981-1987 BUICK REGAL REPRODUCTION BAFFLE SET -

This baffle set is a part that is often overlooked but is critical to keeping your turbo engine cool. Buick had a 3-piece baffle set, which consisted of 3 individual baffles that directed the air flow towards the radiator core. The main baffle went under the center and attached to the bottom of the front of the core support. The 2 small baffles attached to each side of the core support and to the front bumper shock pistons. This reproduction 3-piece baffle set is made from the same rubber-like material as the originals. It fits all Buick Regal models, 1981 through 1987.

PHOTO 3 - We show the 3-piece baffle set, part #7772. It was difficult to photograph it on our personal white Turbo-T, since the pieces are not very visible from any angle. They are in stock for immediate delivery.

1986-1987 BUICK TURBO REGAL STOCK REPLACEMENT BREATHER -

This stock replacement breather, part #6539, has been a very difficult part to find in recent months. This is the metal black breather that “pops” in to the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal passenger’s side valve cover. This breather is located in the front of the valve cover and has the tube that runs from the one end to the original inlet bell on the turbo. It’s a critical part, if you want to retain a correct original format. The element in the breather housing gets saturated with oil over a period of time. When that filter gets saturated, oil can travel into the turbo inlet. I had to go to three different sources to locate these again.

We finally now have them in stock. We sell the single breather for $12.95. Here is a link to this breather on our website:

MORE PERSONAL TOW TRUCK MEMORIES -

In the 12-21-2016 Inner Circle issue we showed a photo of my first tow truck with my three sisters. While searching for photos the other day I discovered photos of three of my other tow trucks.

PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows my first tow truck. The top right photo show the second tow truck I bought. This second tow truck was a huge improvement over the first one. It was a vintage 1950 Ford powered by a flathead V8. In this photo is my youngest sister Dawn, my younger brother Duane, my sister Diane and myself (my other sister Doreen is not in this photo.) In the background is my parents Caddy. My Dad purchased this Caddy from the same used car dealership that I bought my first Corvette from, a 1961 model from in summer of 1965. The lower left photo shows the very first new tow truck I bought in 1973. I think I paid less than $8,000 for this one-ton Ford tow truck. Ironically, today my brother now lives in the same town where I bought that truck, Columbia, PA. Our son Darrell is standing in front of it at about 3 years old…he’s now 46. He got into the car business at a very early age. That photo was taken at our Sugar Bottom Road house in Furlong. The lower right photo shows another one of our tow trucks, a Chevy, powered by a straight six cylinder 292 engine, if I recall.

MECUM FLORIDA AUCTION CONTEST UPDATE -

As you read this, the Mecum Florida auction is well under way with 3,000 vehicles up for grabs. Some of the cars will require a huge amount of disposable income and an understanding spouse! Watch for contest results and a report from Jason Maxfield in next week’s Inner Circle.

Jason is flying down to escape from the brutal Canadian winter. He’ll be attending this auction and get a taste of some warm weather!

We have a special pen set being made for the contest winner that guesses the closest amount on GNX #547 portion of our triple contest.

CRAFTSMAN TOOLS -

The big news from Sears this past week is that they sold their Craftsman Tools division to Stanley Black & Decker for a cool $900 million dollars.

Craftsman Tools have a great warranty. You could bring back any non-working or busted Craftsman tool and Sears would replace it, even without a sales receipt.

I remember when it was called Sears and Roebuck. Perhaps one of the most unusual products Sears sold from 1908-1940 were kits for actual houses. You could buy all the parts needed to build a house through mail order. I can only imagine how detailed those directions were! A clever idea that proved successful. All total it featured 44 different houses, ranging in prices from $360 to $2,890. Kind of like working with Legos, but on a much larger scale!

Actually the small house that sits on the edge of our property is one of those Sears houses, and is still occupied today. I would be curious to hear from anyone that is living in a Sears house today.

TAX INCREASES WORK IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS -

In Philadelphia, PA they recently passed a tax on soda - 1.5 cent per ounce. This is on top of the existing sales tax of 8% in Philadelphia, although it’s only 6% elsewhere in the state. Where this becomes confusing is, at the Philadelphia airport where the airport sits partially in Philadelphia and part of it is in Tinicum Township, the soda tax does not apply nor does the 8% sales tax.

So, it can be a big difference where you shop at the Philadelphia, PA airport. Walk a few yards in one direction and you can save some money!

Once again, politicians create complications and confusion.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1981-1987 Buick Regal (Including Turbo Regals) -
Reproduction 3-PIECE BAFFLES SET

These baffles are often overlooked, but are critical to keep a turbo engine cool.

Buick had a 3-piece baffles set, which consisted of 3 individual baffles that directed the air flow towards the radiator core. The long baffle went under the center and attached to the bottom of the front of the core support. The 2 small baffles attached to each side of the core support and to the front bumper shock pistons.

This format directs more airflow to the front of the radiator.

Over time, the originals may be ripped or missing completely.

These reproduction baffles are made from the same rubber-like material as the originals.

NOTE - You will need to re-use the original hardware and plastic tie straps to attach the baffles.

Our top photo shows the 3 baffles in the set, and lower photos show the baffles in position on the front and driver’s side.

1984-1987 Buick Regal -
FACTORY-STYLE BLACK TRUNK KIT (9 PIECES)

One of the very desirable options that GM offered in the Buick Regal was a fully carpeted trunk kit that also covered the spare tire and the side panels in your Regal. Besides the nice appearance, it also helps to protect the inner fender walls from being dented from any objects you would carry in the trunk.

The discontinued GM kit consisted of seven different grey pieces. We used the original pieces to develop an improved trunk kit.

We offer this trunk kit in two colors - BLACK (part #7764) or GREY (part #6510.)

NOTE - Our photo shows the GREY material trunk kit. If you are ordering from this page on the website, you would receive the BLACK trunk kit, part #7764.

Our kit consists of nine different pieces (two more pieces than GM and some have a diecut backing like factory), all of which are clearly marked, and kit comes with placement instructions.

Once installed there are no unfinished edges in your trunk, even the hinge brackets are covered.

NOTE - We are now including a special Trunk Kit Installation DVD, Part #7056 at no charge when you purchase our trunk kit.

NOTE - You may also be interested in this related grey trunk kit - #6510 Factory-style GREY Trunk Kit, 9 pieces.

Another nice finishing touch to any trunk interior or restoration.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

We expect to post some of the upcoming dates for the Turbo Regal events for 2017 next week.

We will also list the results of our triple billing Mecum Florida Auction contest and the winners. Who knows, it could be you!

The real shock to me at the Mecum Auction would be if the custom-made Morris Minor Tow truck fetches a larger bid than the original 1987 Grand National.
