NEW PRODUCT - JUMP STARTER – AGA GROUP –
Recently we were contacted by a company that has just released a new hand-held jump starter. Many of you may recall when we first sold these about 8 years ago. We were one of the first to sell what is a hand-held battery jumper.
The initial test we did was on a Regal in a junkyard that had the keys still in the ignition. The yard is owned by a friend of mine and he seldom let people stroll through the property. The car was back in the woods and had a PA inspection sticker that was several years old. I hooked up the hand-held jumper to it and to my amazement the car cranked like it was parked just last week! That sold me on the product and we sold hundreds of them.
We later sold a smaller version, which I still use to this day.
It looks like a typical smart phone in size and design. We also use ours to test various 12-volt parts on our work bench.
This new one we recently bought will start a V8 gas engine up to 5 liters and a diesel engine up to 3 liters.
It comes with all the various phone leads, a built-in flashlight, and jumping capability. It has both a car charger and house charger. All the pieces come in a custom zippered carrying case.

TURBO REGAL TRIM - SEMI-BLACK SPRAY PAINT -
We recently purchased some semi-black spray paint for a project. We bought it from the same supplier that we buy the grey, blue, and burgundy Turbo Regal interior spray paint. Spray paint in those 3 colors has been a huge seller for us. The spray paint in those various colors are a perfect match and dries within minutes, making it easy to use.
The semi-black spray we just purchased looked to me like a dead-on match to the black-out trim used on the Turbo Regals. I happen to have a pair of the reproduction black headlight bezels in stock so I sprayed a portion of one of them to see how it matched. It matched perfectly.
Keep in mind, you are never going to get a perfect match against a 35-year-old part that has been exposed to the sunlight. This is a nice option for touch-up or to redo any black trim parts or black taillight bezels. It dries within minutes, which is a nice benefit.

TURBO REGAL DRIVE-TRAIN FOR SALE –
We were recently contacted by a customer of ours located in upper eastern Pennsylvania near the New York border. About 12-15 years ago he bought a 1987 Grand National that had been t-boned in an accident. He bought the entire wreck. His plan was to drop the drivetrain in a street rod he was going to build.
This gentlemen also had a 1987 Grand National years ago in his car collection. Even with the best laid plans, this project got put on the back burner. This complete drivetrain with harness radiator transmission, etc. has been sitting in the second floor of his barn on a dolly. Because of his initial plan, he made sure he removed everything he needed for the conversion, including the engine harness, radiator, computer, etc.
FOR SALE – Complete stock 1987 Buick Grand National engine, all assembled, with turbocharger, intercooler, ignition coil, wire harness installed. AC compressor, condenser, alternator, computer instrument panel cluster, powermaster brake unit, radiator, original transmission still bolted to the engine. Everything together ready to install. Speedometer shows 1955 miles (probably 119,555 miles. Engine salvaged years ago for hot rod project that never happened. Engine is on a pulling cart in dry storage. The price is $4,800.

MORE COLLECTIBLES FROM MY PRIVATE COLLECTION –
Among the items we have saved, I found a copy of the GTO Car Show Memorial booklet from our very first event held in mid-June 1988. The timing was perfect as the Pontiac Oakland Club International was planning to hold their national event in nearby Downingtown, PA on June 21st and 22nd.
In 1988, we were still very much involved in marketing GTO parts and I was a member of the Pontiac Oakland Club. We saw this opportunity to put on our first car show event featuring the popular GTO and Turbo Regals. We also had a strong connection with Hurst.
This event was quite remarkable as we held it at our old house on Sugar Bottom Road in Furlong, PA. The event drew over 150 cars. According to the booklet, we had 25 Turbo Regals in attendance and 3 real GNXs. The Turbo Regal owners came from as far away as Wisconsin and Canada. Our one neighbor who lived 2 doors down from us allowed us to put all 25 Turbo Regals on their lawn! They had a beautiful gated property and were not even car enthusiasts. Matter of fact, the husband drove an Oldsmobile diesel! They even cooked hot dogs at their house for the people. It is extremely rare to have neighbors that neighborly.
We had 7 show quality GTOs all with Hurst wheels on our front lawn. We even had the co-founder of Hurst, Bill Campbell, attend our event. Even back then a nice set of Hurst wheels would bring $2,000 or more. I know as I sold the set off my 1964 GTO for $2,000.
The editor of Muscle Car Review magazine, Paul Zararine, made the trip to cover it for the magazine.
We had one GTO owner drive their GTO all the way from Houston, Texas to our event - a distance of 1,600 miles.
In looking through this booklet, it brought back fond memories for me. Most of my family and Eileen’s was there. My parents made their famous grape leaves and my mother-in-law made trays of Italian Ziti.
Looking back this was the first car show event that lead to “Reunion” events each summer, including the two large Reunion events held at the nearby Johnsville Airbase that would feature several hundred cars. Probably the largest gathering of GTOs and Turbo Regals sponsored by a vendor and not a national club.
I would be curious to know if any of you were at this event in June of 1988. If you were, what are your memories? I would share them with our readers in next week’s Inner Circle.
In my opinion, the rarest original GNX-related brochure would be the one ASC put out, which showcased their various involvement with the cars they would modify for the various auto makers. This 8-½ by 11 beautiful brochure is dated 1988. It shows a Firebird model called the “Firebird Suntour” with various ground effects and a sunroof. I have no idea if this car ever saw production as it appears to be a 1987 model. The brochure also shows a right–hand-drive Celica convertible that ASC did for Toyota.
The third car featured in this brochure shows the GNX. It’s interesting that in the written copy it states that 500 were produced. It talks about the vision for the future for ASC that was founded in 1965. Back then it was known as American Sunroof Company. This very rare brochure is listed for sale under the Rare Parts section.

MORE INFORMATION ON THE BUICK RECALLS –
See New Products as we have the new reproduction Buick Recall decals and the Air Cleaner box decal in stock. They are sold as a pair and are for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals.
Each Buick Recall was given a certain number. This number would have been writing in on the Recall decal and dated. The brake switch was probably the most widely known Turbo Regal recall. The number for the Brake Switch Recall was 87-C13.
Another one that I remember involved the e-prom and it was only for the 1987 Turbo Regals. The GNX was not affected by this recall. This recall for only the 1987 Turbo Regals was 87-C14.
According to the notice I have in my collection, this was issued in June 1992. The reason was that the EPA determined that the original eprom, in some cases, was emitting pollutants in excess of the Federal Emission standards. By 1992 some owners had already changed the eprom so they basically ignored this Recall Notice from Buick. Watch for more information in future Inner Circles.
MORE INFORMATION ON THE SERVICE BULLETINS –
As we noted last week, Buick Dealer Service Bulletins were also issued to dealers to keep them informed of any changes or new models created during the model year. The most widely-known Buick Service Bulletin covered all the critical part numbers with illustrations of the various parts related to the popular GNX. Going by memory, you had to provide certain critical information back then in order to order specific GNX parts. This Buick Dealer Service Bulletin on the GNX was released in November 1988.
I found one interesting Buick Service Bulletin dated August 1987 listing the weatherstrips for the T-Tops Regals. They had reversed the part numbers! In the same Service Bulletin they show that starting in January 1987 for the hardtop Regals, on all models a new roof rail weatherstrip is being used. It goes on to state they will look the same but are thicker and softer. The new weatherstriping would minimize wind noise.
I am sure not many of my readers would have known about this change. It’s interesting that they say it “minimizes” wind noise, when the goal should have been to eliminated wind noise altogether!
This is how the information was released to car dealers in the 1980s. Today, for the most part, it is all done on the internet. For example, prior to the virus, you could walk into a dealership give them your 17-digit VIN number and they could run a printout listing every option in your car or truck. They could probably even tell you in which plant it was made. Today, in almost every case, you need to supply your VIN number to order specific parts since parts got changed at a various times during production. This method is virtually required with any foreign or domestic car or truck.

Many states will require the wearing of some sort of masks when out in public, this is one you can easily carry in your pocket and use as needed.

Note: For added protection, these masks fit easily over a disposable surgical mask or a coffee filter can be worn behind the cloth. Coffee filters is one method they recommend on the internet for further protection.

Instead they deliver the packages to the old address and leave them outside. They refuse to forward and say that we should notify the shipper. In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.

Ads can be from any individual or company. It needs to be automotive related, meaning it does not need be specifically Turbo Regal related. It can be for something for sale or something wanted.
Maximum number of words is 125 words, which is about 7 to 9 lines of copy. No photos. You can list a website. We recommend you state your name, phone number or email, a price, and your location in your ad.
The cost for 2 consecutive weeks is $25. The cost for 4 consecutive weeks is $40. You save $10 with the 4-week plan. No changes can be made to your existing running ad. You can only run one ad at any given time. We will have a code system at the end of your ad, so we will know what week number your ad is to run - 2 or 4 weeks.
It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.
We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.
Our weekly Inner Circle reaches over 3,400 members every Wednesday direct to their inbox. The Inner Circle also appears every Wednesday on our website with the related photos. Your ad would be visible to both groups of readers. So, the exposure to your ad is well over 3,200 potential buyers.

SEMI-BLACK EXTERIOR TRIM SPRAY PAINT
This spray paint is semi-black and is a excellent color match for the black-out trim moldings that was used on certain Turbo Regal models.
It is made by the same company that color matches the grey, dark blue, burgundy paint we also sell from this same source.
It dries within minutes. While many variations of semi-black exist, we found this to be a very close match. Remember, no paint color is going to match trim that has been exposed for over 30 years of sun and weather.
This is ideal to do the taillight trim parts and the plastic headlight bezels.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
REPRODUCTION AIR CLEANER DECAL (1) &
REPRODUCTION BRAKE SWITCH RECALL DECAL (1) SET
We are offering these two decals as a set.
The reproduction Air Cleaner Decal measures 1-5/16″ x 1-1/4″ and is white with black lettering, which is the identical size and color as the original.
It goes on the side of the top portion of the metal factory air cleaner box. There is no precise location but generally can be found on the side towards the driver’s fender.
The reproduction Brake Switch Recall Decal measures 2″ x 1″ and is white with black lettering, which is the identical size and color as the original.
There was no exact placement for where the Service Department would put the Recall decal showing it was completed. Generally, it was put on the core support near the Belt Routing decal. A date was written in along with the other related information, which showed the recall was completed. The recall related to the powermaster brake switch was not issued until the fall of 1990.

We are now offering high-quality reproduction Grand National emblems for the front fenders and trunk lid. All 1986-1987 GNs used three emblems; one on each fender and one on the driver’s side trunk lid. The 1984-1985 GNs only used two emblems; one on each fender.

NEW PRODUCT - JUMP STARTER – AGA GROUP –
Recently we were contacted by a company that has just released a new hand-held jump starter. Many of you may recall when we first sold these about 8 years ago. We were one of the first to sell what is a hand-held battery jumper.
The initial test we did was on a Regal in a junkyard that had the keys still in the ignition. The yard is owned by a friend of mine and he seldom let people stroll through the property. The car was back in the woods and had a PA inspection sticker that was several years old. I hooked up the hand-held jumper to it and to my amazement the car cranked like it was parked just last week! That sold me on the product and we sold hundreds of them.
We later sold a smaller version, which I still use to this day.
It looks like a typical smart phone in size and design. We also use ours to test various 12-volt parts on our work bench.
This new one we recently bought will start a V8 gas engine up to 5 liters and a diesel engine up to 3 liters.
It comes with all the various phone leads, a built-in flashlight, and jumping capability. It has both a car charger and house charger. All the pieces come in a custom zippered carrying case.

TURBO REGAL TRIM - SEMI-BLACK SPRAY PAINT -
We recently purchased some semi-black spray paint for a project. We bought it from the same supplier that we buy the grey, blue, and burgundy Turbo Regal interior spray paint. Spray paint in those 3 colors has been a huge seller for us. The spray paint in those various colors are a perfect match and dries within minutes, making it easy to use.
The semi-black spray we just purchased looked to me like a dead-on match to the black-out trim used on the Turbo Regals. I happen to have a pair of the reproduction black headlight bezels in stock so I sprayed a portion of one of them to see how it matched. It matched perfectly.
Keep in mind, you are never going to get a perfect match against a 35-year-old part that has been exposed to the sunlight. This is a nice option for touch-up or to redo any black trim parts or black taillight bezels. It dries within minutes, which is a nice benefit.

TURBO REGAL DRIVE-TRAIN FOR SALE –
We were recently contacted by a customer of ours located in upper eastern Pennsylvania near the New York border. About 12-15 years ago he bought a 1987 Grand National that had been t-boned in an accident. He bought the entire wreck. His plan was to drop the drivetrain in a street rod he was going to build.
This gentlemen also had a 1987 Grand National years ago in his car collection. Even with the best laid plans, this project got put on the back burner. This complete drivetrain with harness radiator transmission, etc. has been sitting in the second floor of his barn on a dolly. Because of his initial plan, he made sure he removed everything he needed for the conversion, including the engine harness, radiator, computer, etc.
FOR SALE – Complete stock 1987 Buick Grand National engine, all assembled, with turbocharger, intercooler, ignition coil, wire harness installed. AC compressor, condenser, alternator, computer instrument panel cluster, powermaster brake unit, radiator, original transmission still bolted to the engine. Everything together ready to install. Speedometer shows 1955 miles (probably 119,555 miles. Engine salvaged years ago for hot rod project that never happened. Engine is on a pulling cart in dry storage. The price is $4,800.

MORE COLLECTIBLES FROM MY PRIVATE COLLECTION –
Among the items we have saved, I found a copy of the GTO Car Show Memorial booklet from our very first event held in mid-June 1988. The timing was perfect as the Pontiac Oakland Club International was planning to hold their national event in nearby Downingtown, PA on June 21st and 22nd.
In 1988, we were still very much involved in marketing GTO parts and I was a member of the Pontiac Oakland Club. We saw this opportunity to put on our first car show event featuring the popular GTO and Turbo Regals. We also had a strong connection with Hurst.
This event was quite remarkable as we held it at our old house on Sugar Bottom Road in Furlong, PA. The event drew over 150 cars. According to the booklet, we had 25 Turbo Regals in attendance and 3 real GNXs. The Turbo Regal owners came from as far away as Wisconsin and Canada. Our one neighbor who lived 2 doors down from us allowed us to put all 25 Turbo Regals on their lawn! They had a beautiful gated property and were not even car enthusiasts. Matter of fact, the husband drove an Oldsmobile diesel! They even cooked hot dogs at their house for the people. It is extremely rare to have neighbors that neighborly.
We had 7 show quality GTOs all with Hurst wheels on our front lawn. We even had the co-founder of Hurst, Bill Campbell, attend our event. Even back then a nice set of Hurst wheels would bring $2,000 or more. I know as I sold the set off my 1964 GTO for $2,000.
The editor of Muscle Car Review magazine, Paul Zararine, made the trip to cover it for the magazine.
We had one GTO owner drive their GTO all the way from Houston, Texas to our event - a distance of 1,600 miles.
In looking through this booklet, it brought back fond memories for me. Most of my family and Eileen’s was there. My parents made their famous grape leaves and my mother-in-law made trays of Italian Ziti.
Looking back this was the first car show event that lead to “Reunion” events each summer, including the two large Reunion events held at the nearby Johnsville Airbase that would feature several hundred cars. Probably the largest gathering of GTOs and Turbo Regals sponsored by a vendor and not a national club.
I would be curious to know if any of you were at this event in June of 1988. If you were, what are your memories? I would share them with our readers in next week’s Inner Circle.
In my opinion, the rarest original GNX-related brochure would be the one ASC put out, which showcased their various involvement with the cars they would modify for the various auto makers. This 8-½ by 11 beautiful brochure is dated 1988. It shows a Firebird model called the “Firebird Suntour” with various ground effects and a sunroof. I have no idea if this car ever saw production as it appears to be a 1987 model. The brochure also shows a right–hand-drive Celica convertible that ASC did for Toyota.
The third car featured in this brochure shows the GNX. It’s interesting that in the written copy it states that 500 were produced. It talks about the vision for the future for ASC that was founded in 1965. Back then it was known as American Sunroof Company. This very rare brochure is listed for sale under the Rare Parts section.

MORE INFORMATION ON THE BUICK RECALLS –
See New Products as we have the new reproduction Buick Recall decals and the Air Cleaner box decal in stock. They are sold as a pair and are for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals.
Each Buick Recall was given a certain number. This number would have been writing in on the Recall decal and dated. The brake switch was probably the most widely known Turbo Regal recall. The number for the Brake Switch Recall was 87-C13.
Another one that I remember involved the e-prom and it was only for the 1987 Turbo Regals. The GNX was not affected by this recall. This recall for only the 1987 Turbo Regals was 87-C14.
According to the notice I have in my collection, this was issued in June 1992. The reason was that the EPA determined that the original eprom, in some cases, was emitting pollutants in excess of the Federal Emission standards. By 1992 some owners had already changed the eprom so they basically ignored this Recall Notice from Buick. Watch for more information in future Inner Circles.
MORE INFORMATION ON THE SERVICE BULLETINS –
As we noted last week, Buick Dealer Service Bulletins were also issued to dealers to keep them informed of any changes or new models created during the model year. The most widely-known Buick Service Bulletin covered all the critical part numbers with illustrations of the various parts related to the popular GNX. Going by memory, you had to provide certain critical information back then in order to order specific GNX parts. This Buick Dealer Service Bulletin on the GNX was released in November 1988.
I found one interesting Buick Service Bulletin dated August 1987 listing the weatherstrips for the T-Tops Regals. They had reversed the part numbers! In the same Service Bulletin they show that starting in January 1987 for the hardtop Regals, on all models a new roof rail weatherstrip is being used. It goes on to state they will look the same but are thicker and softer. The new weatherstriping would minimize wind noise.
I am sure not many of my readers would have known about this change. It’s interesting that they say it “minimizes” wind noise, when the goal should have been to eliminated wind noise altogether!
This is how the information was released to car dealers in the 1980s. Today, for the most part, it is all done on the internet. For example, prior to the virus, you could walk into a dealership give them your 17-digit VIN number and they could run a printout listing every option in your car or truck. They could probably even tell you in which plant it was made. Today, in almost every case, you need to supply your VIN number to order specific parts since parts got changed at a various times during production. This method is virtually required with any foreign or domestic car or truck.

Many states will require the wearing of some sort of masks when out in public, this is one you can easily carry in your pocket and use as needed.

Note: For added protection, these masks fit easily over a disposable surgical mask or a coffee filter can be worn behind the cloth. Coffee filters is one method they recommend on the internet for further protection.

Maximum number of words is 125 words, which is about 7 to 9 lines of copy. No photos. You can list a website. We recommend you state your name, phone number or email, a price, and your location in your ad.
The cost for 2 consecutive weeks is $25. The cost for 4 consecutive weeks is $40. You save $10 with the 4-week plan. No changes can be made to your existing running ad. You can only run one ad at any given time. We will have a code system at the end of your ad, so we will know what week number your ad is to run - 2 or 4 weeks.
It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.
We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.

SEMI-BLACK EXTERIOR TRIM SPRAY PAINT
This spray paint is semi-black and is a excellent color match for the black-out trim moldings that was used on certain Turbo Regal models.
It is made by the same company that color matches the grey, dark blue, burgundy paint we also sell from this same source.
It dries within minutes. While many variations of semi-black exist, we found this to be a very close match. Remember, no paint color is going to match trim that has been exposed for over 30 years of sun and weather.
This is ideal to do the taillight trim parts and the plastic headlight bezels.

REPRODUCTION AIR CLEANER DECAL (1) &
REPRODUCTION BRAKE SWITCH RECALL DECAL (1) SET
We are offering these two decals as a set.
The reproduction Air Cleaner Decal measures 1-5/16″ x 1-1/4″ and is white with black lettering, which is the identical size and color as the original.
It goes on the side of the top portion of the metal factory air cleaner box. There is no precise location but generally can be found on the side towards the driver’s fender.
The reproduction Brake Switch Recall Decal measures 2″ x 1″ and is white with black lettering, which is the identical size and color as the original.
There was no exact placement for where the Service Department would put the Recall decal showing it was completed. Generally, it was put on the core support near the Belt Routing decal. A date was written in along with the other related information, which showed the recall was completed. The recall related to the powermaster brake switch was not issued until the fall of 1990.

It clearly shows how it installed in mere seconds, if you use a power hand tool with the proper bit to secure the single allen head screw on the 2-piece clamp.

Reproduction GRAND NATIONAL FENDER & TRUNK EMBLEMS
We are now offering high-quality reproduction Grand National emblems for the front fenders and trunk lid. All 1986-1987 GNs used three emblems; one on each fender and one on the driver’s side trunk lid. The 1984-1985 GNs only used two emblems; one on each fender.
This striking silver, red, orange and black enamel-like finish emblem measures 5-3/8" x 1-7/8" and comes with a self-adhesive backing.
NOTE - If you need to replace an emblem on your car, it’s best to replace all three at the same time so they all look new.
Emblems also make a great addition to any car show display board.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
