Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 01-24-2018 -

CARLISLE GNX BANNER -

A few years back I bought all the Grand National and related GNX banners that Carlisle hung in their main display building with the special invited Turbo Regals.

These huge banners are 5 ft by 8 ft on a high-quality 13 ounce material with a hem around all four sides. I had saved the one that showed ASC doing the install on the special GNX rear suspension. All these different banners Carlisle made were 1 of 1 in the large 5 ft by 8 ft size.

PHOTO 1 - Our photo shows this original GM Carlisle GNX banner from several years ago. It is still in good condition and has never been exposed to the weather. See the Rare Parts section as it is for sale.

NOTE - Banners are difficult to photograph and may not look rectangular in the photos.

SPEAKING OF BANNERS -

We still have a few factory Chrysler Hellcat banners for sale. I have 3 Hellcat banners left. In the photo 2 we show two of the Hellcat banners. The one Hellcat not pictured is the B5 Blue Hellcat. I also have two factory Chevrolet banners left. One shows a split image of a 1967 Camaro and a 2017 Camaro marking 50 years. The other banner shows the high performance ZL1 Camaro, which is a vertical banner. These banners are also the same size as the Hellcats banners, 3 ft by 5 ft. Each has the factory trademark on it. All the banners are 13 ounce material with a hem on all four sides and eyelets to hang them up.

PHOTO 2 - The top two photos show the factory Chrysler production banners featuring the 2017 Hellcat. I have these 2 available plus a third one that is B5 Blue. The bottom left photo shows the 50th Anniversary Camaro banner and the bottom right photo shows the 2017 ZL1 Camaro, which is a vertical format. These banners are difficult to photograph. All banners can be seen in the Rare Parts section.

WILLIAMS HIGH SPEED PINBALL MACHINE -

We have probably had this original working 1986 High Speed Pinball Machine for over 25 years. Unfortunately, when we moved to our current house 12 years ago we didn’t have the room to put it, so it has sat unused in the basement. When we first got it, we had the machine completely gone over. Last week I plugged it in for the first time in a dozen years and it worked like it has been used the day before! It really is in very nice condition. Neither the front glass or the back silk-screened glass is broken.

It needs a good home where someone can enjoy it with their friends and family. It is set up to work without money! Up to 4 players can play at a time.

PHOTO 3 - We show various photos of the 1986 High Speed Pinball machine. One photo even shows it lit up. See the Rare Parts section for the price. We priced it quite reasonable for being in operating condition and 30 years old, just like your Turbo Regal! This pinball machine must be picked up, as we will not ship it.

HURST SHIFTER KNOBS AND T STYLE HANDLES -

Perhaps no company has made more shifter knobs and T-handles in the 1960s and 1970s than Hurst.

Many of you know I have a very extensive collection of Hurst items and artwork. I have over 75 different Hurst knobs and T-handles, several of which are prototypes that never saw production for one reason or another. I believe I probably have the largest collection of different Hurst shifter knobs and T-handles.

Hurst sold some of their T-handle designs direct to General Motors, Chrysler and Ford. Chrysler used the pistol grip shifter handle, whereas GM and Ford used the T-handle format with their special models, such as the 1969 Pontiac Judge and with Ford some of the special Mustang models.

PHOTO 4 - We show just some of the various Hurst knobs and T-handles in my private collection. According to Bill Campbell, the co-founder of Hurst, the T-handle came about one night when they were playing around with clay in their hand and formed the clay to fit their hand. The first T-handles where made in plastic. Later they would switch to metal T-handles to avoid issues with breakage under hard use.

AUTONOMOUS CARS -

Here is a new word, AUTONOMOUS. As time goes on, it will be in the news more and more. Autonomous autos refer to cars that are driverless. They have no steering wheel and no brake pedal. GM has requested permission from the Federal Government to start making prototypes. Several states (Texas is one) are already on board to allow testing of vehicles once the Federal Government approves.

Already they are figuring there will be fewer accidents, a method for disabled to get around, and less need for car insurance. Also, they expect less crime. I guess it’s difficult to steal a driverless car?

However, there are some major issues autonomous cars will have to overcome. One is settling disputes for liability if a driverless car is in an accident. They still need to determine a timeframe needed to phase out regular driver cars. Perhaps the biggest obstacle to overcome, will be the resistance by individuals to forfeit control of their vehicle. Remember, these cars will have no steering wheel or brake pedal.

As for drag racing, you will probably be able to control your driverless car from your smart phone while sitting in the viewing stands. The thrill of driving down that quarter mile track will be a thing of the past, as would be the sound of that engine.

If you’re my age, thank goodness we probably won’t be around to see these changes. I am sure in the late 1800s, those that worked on stage coaches and wagons were stunned when they first laid eyes on the early horseless carriages and the noise they made. They got to witness the replacement for the horse and buggy format.

THE NEW 2018 COPO CAMARO -

As you may have read, GM is only building 69 of the 2018 COPO Camaros to honor the original 1969 COPO Camaros. This will be a highly-sought-after collectible car to own with only 69 being built and because you can pick the options, the numbers are even less. They list 3 different engine options alone. Depending on the equipment, it looks to be about a $120,000 Camaro.

As luck would have it, a long-time friend of mine was at the recent SEMA event and entered as lottery for the 2018 COPO Camaro. He is one of the lucky ones that will be getting one.

He is willing to sell his option to get one of these rare Camaros for a mere $600. You would be able to pick any options they offer. A $10,000 deposit is required at some point. My friend would have to take initial ownership of the COPO Camaro and then transfer to the actual buyer.

If this is something that interests you and you have the funds to buy it, contact me direct [email protected]

TURBO REGALS ZERO - SUBARU NINETEEN -

I am referring to the number of factory cup holders found in the Turbo Regal and in one of the new 2018 SUV’s Subaru models. The article I read claims Subaru has the most factory cup holders among the production models for 2018. Why 19 cup holders when an SUV can only seat 8 or 9 people at best?

LATEST UPDATE ON THE SHIFTER HANDLE PROJECT -

Currently we have just the new aftermarket black leather T handle style in stock for immediate delivery. It is only $15.95 and the part number is #7830.

CUSTOM-MADE GM LICENSED VINYL BANNERS UPDATE -

Currently we are working with a company that is fully GM licensed for GM banners. They have agreements for all the GM models except Chevrolet and Corvette. They have submitted Turbo Regal Grand National banner samples to GM license department. Watch for word on availability on these custom-made vinyl banners later this month.

If you need to email us, use - [email protected]

TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

If you have a tip or a discovery that you found that works on your Turbo Regal, drop us an email giving us the details so we can pass the info on to our readers. Remember, even with my knowledge, I don’t know it all. Simply email me at - [email protected]

TIP FROM KIRBAN -

One mistake some owners make is not choosing the proper shade of black paint to spray the suspension or trim. We recommend you use a satin black finish. This would be the closest match to the exterior trim. It also looks good on suspension parts, rather than glossy black. Flat black is too dull looking.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1978-1987 Buick Regal (Including Turbo Regal) -
REPLACEMENT UPGRADED GM AUTOMATIC SHIFTER HANDLES
AND INSTALLATION KIT

Until now you had no other choice but to stay with the stock wimpy shifter handle. That GM shifter handle has been the same one from 1978 thru 1987 on the Regals with the console format. Not only is it small in size, but its short mounting shaft makes it prone to breaking due to the plastic internals. If that wasn’t bad enough, it shows wear quickly from use and the plastic chrome ends fall off!

All the 1978-1987 Buick Regal and 1978-1988 Oldsmobile Cutlass floor shifter handles are the same. They all used a locking clip on the one side of the handle to secure the handle to the shifter shaft. On all the other GM cars from that time period, including the Monte Carlo SS models, the locking clip was in the front. That format will not work on the Turbo Regal shifter shaft because the slots on the shaft need to match up to a locking clip on the side in order to secure the handle to the shaft.

We also have a new aftermarket leather shifter handle available, #7830.

This makes it difficult to install a better stronger GM automatic shifter handle from another GM car without making some modifications and adding a method to secure the handle to the shaft.
Our installation kit eliminates the locking clip altogether. You will no longer have to buy a $5 locking clip!

The stock factory handle has plastic internals plus has no depth to give it strength on the shifter shaft. This poor design leads to many of the original shifter handles breaking. Also, while the small plastic chrome rings may give the original GM handle an elegant look, over time they can fall off.

The new original replacement handle can run $40 to $100 or more depending on what actual parts you need to buy. We have come up with several various later GM handles and an installation kit to secure the later GM handles from other GM cars to the factory shifter shaft.

We have several options available including one aftermarket leather handle that is brand new. The used GM handles listed below have all been cleaned and are almost brand new in appearance. (We remove them from certain models that are only about 12-15 years old.)

All the handles are black making it a nice match to any Grand National interior or T-Type with grey interior. Each handle has been modified internally and comes with the necessary custom-made parts to secure it to the factory shaft.

These fit every 1978-1987 Turbo Regal and Oldsmobile Cutlass that has the factory floor shifter. Each handle has been pre-tested to function properly on an original Regal shaft. All of these better design GM shifter handles can be installed if desired to be angled to the driver, something the factory shifter handle you can't do. The end result is a better looking GM handle that fits your hand better and gives a stronger look to your factory shifter.

The used GM shifter handles listed below are a far less costly alternative to purchasing a new original Turbo Regal shifter handle. Not only are they stronger, but these do not show wear as quickly as the original light grey original GM handle does.

All the shifter handles come with easy-to-follow directions and parts as shown.

These replacement shifter handles allow you to keep your original shifter handle like new in storage for car shows. Handles can be switched out in a matter of minutes.

This is a nice upgrade that Buick should have done originally to compliment the engineering they did under the hood.

NOTE - Handles shown in Photo 4 and Photo 5 are extremely rare to find!

Excellent replacements for any interior restoration.

1984-1987 Buick Grand National -
REPRODUCTION GRAND NATIONAL DASH PLAQUE INLAY

This is a new reproduction item. GM never offered this emblem as a separate replacement part as it was only part of the assembly found under GM #25504346.

This emblem is found in every Grand National (except 1982-1/2) as part of the dash plate located above the glove box door. This is an insert GM placed right below the “BUICK” lettering.

Different models/trim options used different style inserts, i.e. “Regal” or “GNX.”

After many years of sun exposure, moisture or dash cleaning products, the chrome finish on this emblem may have faded away or the inlay may have even fallen off the dash plate and is lost.

The dash plate assembly is no longer available and fetches $350+.

This reproduction inlay measures 2-5/8" x 3/8 and is made in ABS injection molded plastic, chrome plated, and painted in the correct colors. There is 3M adhesive backed tape attached for easy installation.

NOTE - This is the "Grand National" INSERT ONLY and NOT the entire dash plate!

The top photo shows this dash plaque inlay (red tab is the carrier sheet for the self-adhesive backing) and the lower photo shows its placement on the dash plaque.

This is another excellent replacement for any interior restoration.

SEATBELT RELEASE BLOCK-OFF STAINLESS PLATES (2) KIT -

In many cases, the factory plastic seatbelt release mechanism may be broken. It is the plastic lever that triggers the seat belt located in each door jamb.

That seat belt mechanism is no longer available from GM or in the aftermarket.

You can easily remove that mechanism and install this block-off plate. It is made in stainless. If you want, you can polish the plate or paint it to match your car. Since it’s stainless steel, it will not rust.

Each kit comes with new screws and gaskets.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
