4 POUNDS OF MISCELLANEOUS WIRES AND 12 HOURS LATER -
Russ and Nancy recently purchased a Grand National. It took Russ 12 hours of work to remove 4 pounds of miscellaneous wires and relays from the car.
The one piece of advice I gave him - Every time you cut and remove a wire, it would be wise to make sure the car still started up!

THE ABOVE ARTICLE REMINDS ME OF A STORY -
The above article reminds me of some of the adventures we had with some of the Turbo Regals we have bought and sold years ago.
I always hated the cars with an aftermarket alarm installed. You probably know the type I mean.
Usually there was a siren under the hood, secured by 2 very small screws that turned to rust a week later making it difficult to unbolt it. Then it would leave 2 or 3 holes in the inner fender. The ones that really became a project were when I would get a car that had several alarms in it. None of them ever looked like they were done professionally.
I remember one funny incident with one car. At the time I had 4 or 5 cars for sale.
On one of the cars, you had to press a section of the carpet otherwise the car would not start.
Another car had a unique alarm that in my haste I forgot to inform the buyer on how it worked. The alarm did not have to be set, and the car would always start.
A week after the new buyer had this particular car, he called me saying it would not start. His mechanic had no idea why it will not even crank. Everything appears correct. He wanted to know if I had any idea. I asked him to tell me what happened. He said he was driving it in the parking lot of his apartment complex and the car just shut off. I had to think for a minute and then I asked him did you happen to drive over a speed bump? He said yes. I then remembered that this car had a special item in the center console that if it got moved, the car would not start. In this case, by hitting a speed bump the item got dislodged and killed the car! True story.
I am not claiming I’ve seen every type of alarm back in the 1990s when we were buying these cars, but I sure saw a wide variety. I think one of the coolest ones we sell is called the TOUCH & START® - Automatic Theft Deterrent Starter Cut-off System, part #7230.
It only requires you to cut one wire under the dash. Nothing else gets cut. If something goes wrong, you simply re-connect the one wire you cut. It doesn’t hurt to keep the directions in your file on your car so you can remember how it is wired.
These cars are still very popular with thieves even today, so it’s important to have some theft deterrents in place.

I say these look factory correct because we get the attaching housing screws and fan cad plated. The two-piece housing is all brand new. We also had to have the pulley made because it was getting difficult to find the original correct diameter pulley. The correct size pulley is critical for the charging circuit to function correctly. Each one is hand built and tested by one individual. I have known this person for over 30 years.
I was at his shop the other day and he was fixing something I had never seen before. It was a combination 12-volt and 24-volt charger for in the field. It consisted of four 6-volt generators run by a 18 horsepower Briggs and Stratton gas engine. It had a switch, so the person operating it could either use it to start a 12-volt engine or by flipping a switch would jump a 24-volt system.
PHOTO 2 - We show two views of this charging system. You can clearly see the 4 generators in the one photo. According to my friend, it weighs about 400 pounds and cost over $10,000 when it was new.
PHOTO 3 - We show 2 different views of the 120 amp alternator we sell. Our supplier has made every effort to make this alternator as close to factory NOS as possible. If you want the best and one that looks correct, this is your best option. Because he lives near us and he stocks them for us, we usually have them in stock.
I recently stopped at a local tractor supply company that sells our Multi-Jumper units. They happen to be a Briggs and Stratton distributor. Briggs and Stratton is the largest manufacturer of air-cooled gasoline engines in the USA.
While I was talking to the tractor supply owner Rick Moyer, I noticed a showcase of various diecast cars and trucks. It turns out Briggs and Stratton does a limited production of model diecast every year. They don’t seem to have any pattern as some are 1:25 scale and some are the smaller scale. While most all them were various trucks, the one for this past Christmas season was a 1:25 scale 1969 Camaro Z/28.
The quality of detail was impressive. The doors, the hood, and the trunk all open. The steering wheel turns. You can even see the wood grain in the steering wheel. It has the jacking directions and warning label on the inside of the trunk lid. The decal on the air cleaner is visible and they even did the AC hoses and radiator hoses. I also like the fact it was done in a color that probably was not very popular a dark grey.
So, for kicks I went on ebay to see if any were for sale. I only found one, and it was listed for almost $50 plus shipping.
Rick Moyer had a 1969 Camaro when it was new, so he ordered more of these diecast models than he normally orders. He says you have to order them in June or July for that upcoming Christmas season.

PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows how the Z28 Camaro comes packaged. The other photos shows the Z28 Camaro and from the front and back and with the doors, trunk, and hood open. It does have the Briggs & Stratton decal on the front fender and on the back window, is made by First Gear, and is GM licensed. I think it’s a great value at $40.
GOOD NEWS CONCERNING THE LED INTERIOR LIGHT -
The good news is I have found a better source to supply us with the LED panel for the standard dome light used in the 1984-1987 Regals, including the Turbo Regals. This source is giving us a better price, which allows us to lower our retail price by $4! Our old part number was #7520 and the price was $14.95. Our new part number is #7661.
For the past several weeks I have been researching all the other various interior lights, including the optional map reading light and the rear pillar lights used in the all the T-Tops models. The Oldsmobile Cutlass uses a different light housing. The Oldsmobile Cutlass standard light housing is a rectangle shaped. It turns out the 9 LED panel we now carry will fit all these applications. If you have a T-Tops car, you need to order TWO panels, part #7662.
The LED panel consists of 9 LEDs, which spreads a brighter light over the original glass tube bulb.
Also, unlike the original glass tube bulb that you can burn your fingers on, the LED panel does not get hot to the touch. It draws far less amps then a glass tube bulb.
The new part number is #7661. It may not be on our website yet. If not, you can call our office and order as we have them in stock. No matter what interior light you have - whether it is the standard round dome light, the map reading light, or the small round ones on the rear pillar panels - this LED panel will fit.
The next project is LED bulbs to replace the 2 under dash interior lights. It appears GM used several versions over the years. Watch for updates on this next project.
Like all our LED projects, we will be wholesaling them to most of the other G-Body vendors.

CARS THAT STEER THEMSELVES -
Instead of perfecting cars that steer themselves, I wish more attention and time was spent developing a product that replaces salt and brine. Those snowy road fixes just ruins wheel bearings, exhaust systems, brake lines, etc.
Another idea… How about a product that would mix with black top to eliminate pot holes from happening.
In the last year I have replaced wheel bearings to two vehicles and ball joints, and we’re dodging gigantic potholes.

WEST COAST SLOW DOWN AND DOCK STRIKE UPDATE -
It appears the slow down and strike has ended. Reportedly it could take several months to clear out the backlog of product stuck on ships and at the dock.
The supplier for the headlights for the upgraded headlight kits says his shipments are stuck in that backlog.

POWER STEERING RETURN HOSE
Because of the age of these cars, it’s probably a good idea to replace the original power steering return hose.
This hose is specific for power steering fluid. Hose is approximately 18" long, about 1" longer than you need.

THIRD BRAKE LIGHT LED PANEL
Many cars produced today have the LED format for their various lights.
LED lighting offers several benefits. Besides projecting a brighter and wider light, LEDs draw a lot less amperage and hardly generates any heat compared to the glass-style bulbs.
The stock bulb in the third brake light is a #1156 bulb. If that bulb were to stay on for two minutes, it would reach over 200 degrees. This can burn the socket housing and, in severe cases, distort the top of the brake light housing. In contrast, the LED panel would only reach 130 degrees after TWO HOURS.
We now offer a LED panel for the original third brake light used in all the 1986-1988 G-Body cars. Each panel is custom built and assembled in the U.S.A. and has a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
This custom-made panel contains three rows of fifteen each for a total of 45 of the SuperFlux LEDs. The SuperFlux LEDs are a brighter LED over some of the other available LEDs. Each panel is coated on the back to seal and protect the circuits from any moisture or unintended shorts by tools or careless installation. Each panel is then tested before delivery. Each LED panel has integrated voltage regulating circuitry built into the base of the socket for space saving. This limits the amount of voltage going to the LED panel. This helps insure that the LED panel will last anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 hours.
The LED panel is powered up through the factory socket. No wires get cut and no modifications are needed to the third brake light housing in your car.
LED Panel comes with easy-to-follow directions.
An excellent upgrade to improve the lighting in the third brake light.

Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

Usually there was a siren under the hood, secured by 2 very small screws that turned to rust a week later making it difficult to unbolt it. Then it would leave 2 or 3 holes in the inner fender. The ones that really became a project were when I would get a car that had several alarms in it. None of them ever looked like they were done professionally.
I remember one funny incident with one car. At the time I had 4 or 5 cars for sale.
On one of the cars, you had to press a section of the carpet otherwise the car would not start.
Another car had a unique alarm that in my haste I forgot to inform the buyer on how it worked. The alarm did not have to be set, and the car would always start.
A week after the new buyer had this particular car, he called me saying it would not start. His mechanic had no idea why it will not even crank. Everything appears correct. He wanted to know if I had any idea. I asked him to tell me what happened. He said he was driving it in the parking lot of his apartment complex and the car just shut off. I had to think for a minute and then I asked him did you happen to drive over a speed bump? He said yes. I then remembered that this car had a special item in the center console that if it got moved, the car would not start. In this case, by hitting a speed bump the item got dislodged and killed the car! True story.
I am not claiming I’ve seen every type of alarm back in the 1990s when we were buying these cars, but I sure saw a wide variety. I think one of the coolest ones we sell is called the TOUCH & START® - Automatic Theft Deterrent Starter Cut-off System, part #7230.
It only requires you to cut one wire under the dash. Nothing else gets cut. If something goes wrong, you simply re-connect the one wire you cut. It doesn’t hurt to keep the directions in your file on your car so you can remember how it is wired.
These cars are still very popular with thieves even today, so it’s important to have some theft deterrents in place.

I say these look factory correct because we get the attaching housing screws and fan cad plated. The two-piece housing is all brand new. We also had to have the pulley made because it was getting difficult to find the original correct diameter pulley. The correct size pulley is critical for the charging circuit to function correctly. Each one is hand built and tested by one individual. I have known this person for over 30 years.
I was at his shop the other day and he was fixing something I had never seen before. It was a combination 12-volt and 24-volt charger for in the field. It consisted of four 6-volt generators run by a 18 horsepower Briggs and Stratton gas engine. It had a switch, so the person operating it could either use it to start a 12-volt engine or by flipping a switch would jump a 24-volt system.
PHOTO 2 - We show two views of this charging system. You can clearly see the 4 generators in the one photo. According to my friend, it weighs about 400 pounds and cost over $10,000 when it was new.
PHOTO 3 - We show 2 different views of the 120 amp alternator we sell. Our supplier has made every effort to make this alternator as close to factory NOS as possible. If you want the best and one that looks correct, this is your best option. Because he lives near us and he stocks them for us, we usually have them in stock.
I recently stopped at a local tractor supply company that sells our Multi-Jumper units. They happen to be a Briggs and Stratton distributor. Briggs and Stratton is the largest manufacturer of air-cooled gasoline engines in the USA.
While I was talking to the tractor supply owner Rick Moyer, I noticed a showcase of various diecast cars and trucks. It turns out Briggs and Stratton does a limited production of model diecast every year. They don’t seem to have any pattern as some are 1:25 scale and some are the smaller scale. While most all them were various trucks, the one for this past Christmas season was a 1:25 scale 1969 Camaro Z/28.
The quality of detail was impressive. The doors, the hood, and the trunk all open. The steering wheel turns. You can even see the wood grain in the steering wheel. It has the jacking directions and warning label on the inside of the trunk lid. The decal on the air cleaner is visible and they even did the AC hoses and radiator hoses. I also like the fact it was done in a color that probably was not very popular a dark grey.
So, for kicks I went on ebay to see if any were for sale. I only found one, and it was listed for almost $50 plus shipping.
Rick Moyer had a 1969 Camaro when it was new, so he ordered more of these diecast models than he normally orders. He says you have to order them in June or July for that upcoming Christmas season.

PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows how the Z28 Camaro comes packaged. The other photos shows the Z28 Camaro and from the front and back and with the doors, trunk, and hood open. It does have the Briggs & Stratton decal on the front fender and on the back window, is made by First Gear, and is GM licensed. I think it’s a great value at $40.
GOOD NEWS CONCERNING THE LED INTERIOR LIGHT -
The good news is I have found a better source to supply us with the LED panel for the standard dome light used in the 1984-1987 Regals, including the Turbo Regals. This source is giving us a better price, which allows us to lower our retail price by $4! Our old part number was #7520 and the price was $14.95. Our new part number is #7661.
For the past several weeks I have been researching all the other various interior lights, including the optional map reading light and the rear pillar lights used in the all the T-Tops models. The Oldsmobile Cutlass uses a different light housing. The Oldsmobile Cutlass standard light housing is a rectangle shaped. It turns out the 9 LED panel we now carry will fit all these applications. If you have a T-Tops car, you need to order TWO panels, part #7662.
The LED panel consists of 9 LEDs, which spreads a brighter light over the original glass tube bulb.
Also, unlike the original glass tube bulb that you can burn your fingers on, the LED panel does not get hot to the touch. It draws far less amps then a glass tube bulb.
The new part number is #7661. It may not be on our website yet. If not, you can call our office and order as we have them in stock. No matter what interior light you have - whether it is the standard round dome light, the map reading light, or the small round ones on the rear pillar panels - this LED panel will fit.
The next project is LED bulbs to replace the 2 under dash interior lights. It appears GM used several versions over the years. Watch for updates on this next project.
Like all our LED projects, we will be wholesaling them to most of the other G-Body vendors.

CARS THAT STEER THEMSELVES -
Instead of perfecting cars that steer themselves, I wish more attention and time was spent developing a product that replaces salt and brine. Those snowy road fixes just ruins wheel bearings, exhaust systems, brake lines, etc.
Another idea… How about a product that would mix with black top to eliminate pot holes from happening.
In the last year I have replaced wheel bearings to two vehicles and ball joints, and we’re dodging gigantic potholes.

WEST COAST SLOW DOWN AND DOCK STRIKE UPDATE -
It appears the slow down and strike has ended. Reportedly it could take several months to clear out the backlog of product stuck on ships and at the dock.
The supplier for the headlights for the upgraded headlight kits says his shipments are stuck in that backlog.

POWER STEERING RETURN HOSE
Because of the age of these cars, it’s probably a good idea to replace the original power steering return hose.
This hose is specific for power steering fluid. Hose is approximately 18" long, about 1" longer than you need.

THIRD BRAKE LIGHT LED PANEL
Many cars produced today have the LED format for their various lights.
LED lighting offers several benefits. Besides projecting a brighter and wider light, LEDs draw a lot less amperage and hardly generates any heat compared to the glass-style bulbs.
The stock bulb in the third brake light is a #1156 bulb. If that bulb were to stay on for two minutes, it would reach over 200 degrees. This can burn the socket housing and, in severe cases, distort the top of the brake light housing. In contrast, the LED panel would only reach 130 degrees after TWO HOURS.
We now offer a LED panel for the original third brake light used in all the 1986-1988 G-Body cars. Each panel is custom built and assembled in the U.S.A. and has a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
This custom-made panel contains three rows of fifteen each for a total of 45 of the SuperFlux LEDs. The SuperFlux LEDs are a brighter LED over some of the other available LEDs. Each panel is coated on the back to seal and protect the circuits from any moisture or unintended shorts by tools or careless installation. Each panel is then tested before delivery. Each LED panel has integrated voltage regulating circuitry built into the base of the socket for space saving. This limits the amount of voltage going to the LED panel. This helps insure that the LED panel will last anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 hours.
The LED panel is powered up through the factory socket. No wires get cut and no modifications are needed to the third brake light housing in your car.
LED Panel comes with easy-to-follow directions.
An excellent upgrade to improve the lighting in the third brake light.
