02-26-2020 Inner Circle

Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 02-26-2020 –

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THIS WAS EVEN REMOTELY POSSIBLE –

I just picked up the March 2020 issue of Hemmings Motor News, Hemmings is considered the antique and collectible car and hobby “bible” for many years. One of the few printed car magazines that does not seem to be affected by the internet. The only difference over the last 40-plus years I been buying Hemmings Motor News, is that the old collector cars are now newer collector cars!

In the March issue under the Buick Cars for Sale they show Buick 2 GNXs for sale. One is priced at $119,900 and the other is priced slightly higher at $125,000. Both are in the range of their value for the time period. What I found shocking is under Volkswagen there are two of the VW buses for sale. You would think the two VW buses would both be cheaper than either GNX.

You would be wrong. The one VW, a 1961 model, has a price tag of $147,000. The other VW bus is slightly newer, a 1963, and it has a higher price tag of $155,000 with the word “Firm” after the price tag. Even if you are not a Buick lover, I think your spouse would rather see two GNXs in the garage at an investment for under $250,000 rather than two VW buses nearing the $300,000.

We used to have a VW bus at our old house. It was a 1967 model with the desirable split windshield. We used it to hold our UPS shipments. It ran when I bought it around 1980. I sold it prior to moving up to our new house in 2005. A buyer from Texas bought it to put on the roof of his new car wash building.

1998 HURST FIREBIRD BY LINGENFELTER –

Back in 1998, Lingenfelter did a very limited production of a Hurst Trans Am. I believe only about 10 were actually built. The information sheet I have says the plan was to build 50 of them. It was to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Hurst Corporation. The modifications that Lingenfelter made bumped the price tag to $45,745, according to my reference paperwork. This price included the basic cost of $25,957 for the 1998 Firebird Trans Am. Lingenfelter installed a 360 HP LSl engine package along with other modifications.

With such a limited production made in 1998, most of you have probably never seen one in person.

I was out at Lingenfelter’s headquarters around 1999 and was able to purchase a few items related to the 1998 Hurst Firebird.

One item I bought was the actual display sign they had gotten made when they showcased the new 1998 Hurst Firebird by Lingenfelter. If you know of anyone that owns one of these rare cars, put them in touch with me. They would probably be a buyer for this original display that Lingenfelter used in 1998.

PHOTO 1 - The photo to the left shows the VHS tape featuring the new 1998 Hurst Firebird by Lingenfelter, one of the original exterior decals for the Hurst Lingenfelter Trans Am. The photo to the right shows the actual display sign Lingenfelter used for display with their modified Hurst Trans Am. The display sign measures approximately 16" x 22". The letters and numbers on the sign are individual ones mounted on a plastic board. See the Rare Parts section for prices.

COLLECTIBLE PARTS FOR SALE –

We have pictured some more collectible parts shown in Photo 2 and Photo 3. Prices for these pictured parts can be found under the Rare Parts section.

PHOTO 2 – The top left photo shows three different original Buick emblems. All three are either new or like new. The Century T-Type was a very rare model. The top right photo we show two original cloth embroidered Indy 500 patches. One is for 1982 and the other is for 1983. Also pictured is a blank Buick City Assembly Center name badge.

The bottom left photos shows a set of the rare Oldsmobile Touring Sedan exterior emblems. They are used. The Olds Touring Sedan was produced for 3 years -1987, 1988, and 1989 - in only a few colors. It was a joint project with ASC. Years ago, I bought and sold two of the actual cars. Also pictured is a very rare Oldsmobile emblem. This emblem is brand new and was affixed to the very last 500 Oldsmobile produced. This emblem and the Touring Sedan emblem are made by the same company and material that the Grand National emblems are made. The bottom right photo shows a Buick Regal ceramic coaster. I believe this came from Buick years ago. The image and wording is engraved into the ceramic material and it has a felt bottom.

PHOTO 3 –The top left photo shows three brand new Buick hood ornaments. The first one is the Collector’s Edition emblem from a 1985 LeSabre. I am not sure what Buick model or years received that center emblem featuring the tri-shield logo. Last, but not least, is the rare silver anniversary Riviera emblem. The top right photo shows an ultra-rare original GNX 002 nameplate. Original ones are hand painted and the letters and numbers are raised not smooth like the reproductions. The lower right photo shows a plastic Power Six key ring. Original ones are hand painted and the letters and numbers are raised not smooth like the reproductions.

The bottom left and middle photos show a rare AC Tachometer tester. It has a switch on the side with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 8. I have no idea how it works. It is in mint condition. I have had it about a dozen years. See the Rare Parts section for pricing.

All these are for sale in the Rare Parts section.

The bottom right photo shows a 14" x 22" display on our personal 1996 Ford Ranger. You can even go with a bigger display poster, however, keep in mind if you go much larger, it blocks the view of the engine compartment. Our new Auto Easel gives you many options besides having it positioned perfectly in front of the show car or truck and at the perfect level and angle. 1985 REGAL LIMITED CHEVY V8 POWERED - STILL AVAILABLE - FOR SALE –

One of our relatives local to us is having us sell their custom-built 1985 Regal Limited that has been in the family since new. This 1985 Regal Limited has always been garaged, never hit, or smoked in. Our son Darrell repainted this car the factory color back in 2003 for $2,000. At 128,000 miles, the engine was converted with a brand GM 350/330 HP crate motor at a cost of $5,200. This was backed up with a rebuilt turbo 400 transmission. A local shop that we deal with redid the rear putting in a new eaton posi with, I believe, to be 3.08 gears. Gear ratio is perfect for high speed cruising.

Being a Limited, it is very well optioned and even the power antenna works. It has Bilstein shocks. Tires are fairly new. The tire size is 205/75 by 14s. Riding on the original 14 by 6 steel wheels with full Regal wheel covers.

With just a few Turbo Regal upgrades this would be an extremely nice solid handling Regal. I you install set of 16 by 8s on all four corners, a Turbo-T steering box, a rear sway bar, and a leather wheel, it will not only ride better, but look better too. The doors shut like they are brand new. The driver’s power pillow seat is the only interior part that shows very minor wear along the edge and around the power switch. A set of tasteful 3 gauges hang of the bottom edge of the dash under the radio. The power seat motor runs but does not function. Headliner will need to be replaced. The steering column has movement in the one section of the tilt.

The current mileage is 135,000, so that is less than 10,000 miles on a brand new GM crate motor. Electric fan with a V8 radiator handles the cooling. The AC has been completely rebuilt. Car has long-branch headers that dump into a new GNX exhaust system. Bigger front sway bar was installed. MSD ignition and an Edelbrock 4-barrell carburetor are fed with a cold air system. The adult owner has never once driven it hard to chirp the tires. Car still has its original half-padded roof. Body and paint are real nice with zero rust. All the stainless and emblems are in good condition. Nothing is missing. Bumpers also are close to new. All the critical labels are still intact, including the SPID label on the inside trunk lid. This car is a bargain and has had excellent care since new.

PRICE REDUCTION $6,495 - OBO

The owner needs to sell the car. The body is exceptional with near perfect chrome, and all the stainless is nice. The car is at our house. For more photos, email me direct - [email protected]

In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.

If you have any cores that are being sent back to us, be sure to use the correct address, especially if you use Fed Ex. Otherwise, we may not receive your package or it may be sent back to you.

WELL-OPTIONED LOW-MILEAGE 1987 GRAND NATIONAL - FOR SALE –

This Grand National is still available. This extremely well-optioned, low-mileage 1987 Grand National that is for sale. The owner wants me to sell it for him. He has had it 6 years. The miles on this Grand National is a mere 48,200. Options include factory moon roof, power windows, power locks, tilt, cruise, delay wipers, concert sound, power trunk, digital dash, power seat, working power antenna, and posi rear. The Grand National is located in Maryland.

It has a beautiful repaint done prior to his owning it. He had paint correction done and ceramic coating this past Spring. The car really shines, probably 100%, better than original. Everything functions 100%, even the original AC.

Additional features include embroidered floor mats, few chrome goodies under the hood, Kirban adjustable fuel regulator, hot wire kit, 60lb injectors, adjustable wastegate, TT chip, new bumper fillers, new fuel tank, and has dual a-pillar gauges and console gauge package. He checked the car with a magnet and shows no putty or filler anywhere. It has the factory chip guard along bottom of the car.

According to the owner Mike, the Grand National has had 4 previous owners. The car shows no accidents or any indication that mileage is not accurate.

The price is $26,900. This Grand National is priced to sell. You would be hard pressed to find a better example of a well-optioned 1987 Grand National that would measure up to the quality of this one at this price. A factory moon roof with a power seat option is extremely rare. This car this Spring would easily bring several grand more than it is priced at this fall.

This car is show quality from any angle. For more information and photos, email me direct [email protected]

Pass the word along to your friends who may be looking for a great-looking well-optioned Grand National.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
