CLOSE OUT SPECIAL ON 1986-1987 TURBO REGAL - OIL TUBE AND BREATHER ASSEMBLY -

This was not one of our parts but was a part made by another source and we purchased their remaining
Inventory.

PHOTO 1 - The top photo shows the close out special oil fill tube and breather. The tube is straight and measures four inches tall overall and the breather has a chrome cap on the top and measures three inches in diameter. Billet construction. The price is $29 each, which includes shipping to any of the basic 48 states. You must call the office to order this as it is not on our website - 215-766-1611 x 0. We have about 16 of them left. This is a product we bought from another company.

The lower photo shows the upgraded later model GM lower steering shaft alongside the factory GM lower steering shaft that currently is used in all the 1978-1988 G-Body applications. As we have noted before, this later GM lower steering shaft has the metal joints at both ends, which eliminates the flexible steering coupler to the steering gear. It will virtually last forever since the joints are metal. It has the slip joint, so the shaft will collapse in case of a frontend collision. This is a better lower shaft than the Jeep one. Virtually a bolt in replacement with only a small notch needing to be made to the main steering shaft in order for the clinch bolt to seat properly.

This lower steering shaft will also fit all third generation Camaros and Firebirds. These will be on sale at our Spring Open House for just $79.95 - that's a savings of $20 with a discount and no shipping.

We have a supply of them due in next week and a second supply of them getting refurbished. These are on our website as Part #7574. (See new Products in this issue.) I was able to get more of them this past Saturday at one of the yards I go to.

This shaft and some of the other new related parts will be on display at our April 12th Spring Open House.

UNUSUAL 1981 REGAL LIMITED SURFACED NEAR OUR OFFICE -

I spotted this unusual Limited on Craig's list and noticed it was nearby at a place that takes in scrap metal by the pound. The Limited had a very unusual two-tone paint scheme, complete with matching alloy wheels. Making it more unusual was the fact it was diesel powered.

PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows an overall view of this unique 1981 Limited. The top right shows a close up of one of the alloy wheels. The bottom left photo shows one of the Diesel emblems on the lower front fender. The car had a matching diesel emblem on the left corner of the trunk lid as well. The bottom right shows a close up of one method to open the hood when the pull cable breaks. Granted this was a rare Limited even back when it was fairly new. Today's value would not be much in my opinion. According to one of my Buick books, this Regal has the Designer Package, complete with matching turbine wheels. It was a $459 option. The Regal model was the best seller for Buick in 1981 and they also sold the 23 millionth car that year. It would be quite a coincidence if this Limited was that 23 millionth car for Buick!

MORE COVERAGE OF THE ATLANTIC CITY CLASSIC CAR SHOW -

In the middle of the main room at the Atlantic City Classic Car Show they held the car auction. Cars that did not meet the reserve were put in another area. These usually had a sign on them saying "No Sale" with the high bid noted.

PHOTO 3 - The top left shows one such car was this older Valiant convertible. It was a no sale at $27,000. The top right photo shows the interior of the Valiant. As you can see, this was a rare factory 4-speed example. Personally, I think that was strong money for the car. The bottom left shows a custom motorcycle that went through the auction. As you can see, it featured dual engines - one behind the other. While the workmanship was superb, I wonder how practical it was to ride on the street. The bottom right photo shows a ZR1 Camaro that was a no sale at $37,000.

PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows the front end of a highly-custom Pontiac. The top right shows the back end of the same car. The car had the appearance of a 1967 GTO stretched on to a Pontiac big car model, such as a Grand Prix? I have no idea what this car did at the auction, but it’s probably safe to assume the bidding fell short of the time and money spent on it. The bottom left shows a late 1920s pickup truck. This restored truck looked out of place among the cars at this event. The bottom right shows a replica of the Ghostbusters car from the movie that was on display.

REBUILT 1986-1987 TURBO REGAL ECM UNITS -

Our website unfortunately can’t price out cores separately from the actual price of an item. One example is the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal rebuilt ECM that Cardone does for us. We have now corrected this so the price of the rebuilt 1986-1987 Turbo Regal ECM is $99 and $45 core charge, which is refundable once we get your core back.

Whenever you are dealing with rebuilt parts, at some point companies need cores.

Cardone is one of the largest rebuilders in the country, supplying many of the automotive stores nationwide. We are extremely grateful that they have invested the time and money to get the powermaster brake accumulator bowl made. Without them doing that part, there would not be many rebuilt powermasters available.

Remember, a big segment of the market want their car to remain in the original condition.

FLIP-DOWN STAY-DOWN LICENSE PLATE BRACKET -

Now that I am going frequently to various You Pull It Yards, I have discovered that Chevrolet (even as far back as 1981) used a flip-down stay-down license plate bracket on certain models that had the gas fill behind the license plate.

I find it strange that with so many Regals being made, Buick never picked up that feature - either as a standard feature or even as a $5 option. I have yet to find it used on any Buick model in the 1980s. I still remember my parents' 1956 Cadillac coupe that had the gas fill neck under one of the taillights.

HAVE YOU EVER DONE THIS? -

You own a certain used car model. As a force of habit soon after you purchase it, you still keep reading the classified ads to see if any similar cars are for sale.

I remember about 15 years ago Pete Serio, the Window Rattle Guy, found me a real nice 1989 BMW 528 model with the 5-speed transmission. It was white with black leather interior. I drove to Columbus, Ohio and brought it back home. Within a few years, we had over 130,000 miles on it but kept it really nice.

One night prior to going to dinner with a friend of mine I saw one for sale in our local newspaper. It was the same year, only it was silver with a black leather interior, and it also was a 5-speed. Car was advertised as being the nicest around, garage kept, and never smoked in.

It also had about 25,000 less miles on it. I called the owner explaining I had one similar to his that in my opinion was extremely nice. I said if his was nicer, I would buy it. He was so sure his was nicer, he said he would give me $20 if my car was nicer than his. I told my buddy looks like someone else is going to be buying us dinner tonight.

I drove over to the owner’s house and he pulled his 1989 BMW 528 model outside so we could compare the two cars. Within a matter of minutes he realized my car was nicer than his. He insisted I take his $20 and I commended him on being honest. I said had yours been nicer I would have bought it because I knew I could sell mine without any trouble. True Story.

UNUSUAL STORAGE FOR A 1987 GRAND NATIONAL -

The other day I was at a car dealership looking at one of their used cars on their “bargain" lot. It turns out the head sales guy knew me from when he had a small used car lot years ago. He had a really nice Grand National I tried to buy from him. In his words… "You tried to steal it from me."

He says he has a true story for me.

About 18 years ago he sold a Chevy pickup to an older gentlemen who had a nice original 1987 Grand National. At the time he was having a custom house built in a town about 30 minutes from where we live. A few years later the house with a basement was completed. My friend had done some work to his Chevy truck he had bought and took it to his home that was just built.

He inquired about the Grand National, thinking maybe he would be ready to sell it. The gentlemen said no that he has made sure he will be able to keep it forever. He then showed it to my friend by walking into the house and down to the basement. There, sitting in the basement, was the Grand National. The car was surrounded by four walls with no means to remove the car without knocking down a wall.

Since then the gentleman has died and the wife says the car can be bought for $20,000, which may be a bargain under normal circumstances. But the house and the basement must remain intact or be returned to perfect condition as part of the deal.

My friend has lost track of her name. I have been bugging him to find the house and write down the address. I would love to not only verify his story, but to take photos of the Grand National that sits in the basement with no means of getting it out.

Someday, even with the best laid plans, that house will be for sale, and the Grand National will I assume be part of the package. True Story? Maybe yes or maybe not.

Over the years I have made some very unusual purchases of Turbo Regals, but this one would take the prize.

Next week, I will share one such story with our readers - entitled "The Grand National and Model Trains."

1981 EL CAMINO FOR SALE -

My friend Greg Glenn has a fairly unique 1981 restore El Camino for sale. It has fewer than 60,000 original miles on the body. He suspects it was restored about 10 years ago and is virtually rust free. The entire exterior is a Dale Earnhardt tribute car, complete with all the proper decals, including the huge number 3 decal. Originally it was a six cylinder and now has a 350 engine stroked to 400 with a turbo transmission. It has a bench seat with very few options. Everything works. El Caminos are hard to find in nice shape. The price is $12,500.

For more information, contact me - [email protected]

CAR FOR SALE 1987 GRAND NATIONAL -

This 1987 Grand National For Sale is located in Georgia and has just under 21,000 actual miles. It has factory T-Tops and runs out extremely nice. The current owner only put about 500 miles on it since buying it over a year ago.

The car is a two-owner car and has always been garaged. The current owner replaced the radiator, headliner, powermaster brake unit, as well as the brake proportioning valve. He also had a complete tune-up done.

The reason he is selling is they are expecting a baby. We originally handled this deal when the car was owned previously in New Jersey. The car does have some minor paint issues and needs a few things done to be perfect. It needs a power antenna, A/C charged, front bumper fillers, and the radio repaired. The price is $17,900.

IMPORTANT NEWS CONCERNING SPOOLFOOL FILLER PANELS -

Mike is shipping a skid of the Spoolfoof Filler Panels to us this week. With that in mind, if you reside anywhere the northeast part of the country, we can give you a good price on shipping, since shipping would be from our Plumsteadville, PA zip code to your zip code. However, you must act quickly if you want either the single-piece rear filler or the Spoolfools front set.

Depending on the demand, we may not order a second skid of them prior to our mid-April Open House event.

Remember, if you want us to hold any filler panels to be picked up at the Open House, be sure to call Christina - 215-766-1611 x 0.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1979-1988 G-Body Cars, including Buick Turbo Regal, and
1982-1992 Camaro and Firebird
UPGRADED REFURBISHED USED LOWER STEERING SHAFT

After much research, we have found a lower steering shaft that what we feel is the best replacement option. This refurbished lower steering shaft will fit the 1984-1987 Turbo Regal (all 1979-1988 G-Body models and 1982-1992 Camaro and Firebird models) lower steering shaft. The original lower steering shaft uses a flexible joint (steering coupler) to connect to the gear box. Over time this flexible steering coupler can weaken and create more play in the steering. Another weak point on the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals and all the other G-Body models is the bushing at the base of the main steering shaft. GM simply used two rubber seals instead of a metal ball bearing bushing. We offer the better ball bearing kit, which is our Part #7572. We highly recommend you purchase this kit at the same time, since installation requires the lower steering shaft to be removed to install it.

The refurbished lower shaft we now offer is actually one from a later-model GM vehicle. It is also 8 to 10 years newer than the various Jeep lower steering shafts that are offered on various forums. Another reason this is a better lower steering shaft replacement over the Jeep version is the GM vehicle this one comes out of is encased in a rubber boot. Because it has been encased in a rubber boot, it has not been exposed to any corrosion over the years and virtually looks brand new. Fortunately, these are easier for me to remove from the vehicles!

Because this lower steering shaft has the metal swivel joints, it is far superior to the flexible steering coupler GM used in the G-Body cars. This refurbished lower steering shaft also gives you more room under the hood. Being a GM part, the shaft is collapsible in case of a front-end accident.

I send these out to a specialist that modifies them for our application. Our specialist has been doing them for several years. This upgraded lower steering shaft has the superior metal joints at both ends. Each comes with detailed directions with photos. You do have to make one small notch on the base of the main steering shaft in order for the upper clinch bolt to seat cleanly.

Because there is a limited supply, you must email me direct - [email protected] - to see if I currently have any available. This part is sold through our other company and cannot be ordered through our website. Payment must be via PayPal or personal check.

NOTE - We recommend this part be installed by a qualified mechanic.

Another great restoration item.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
ORIGINAL VICTOR REINZ HEAD GASKETS (2)

We now carry the original Victor Reinz head gaskets.

Victor Reinz was the original supplier to GM for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal 3.8 SFI engines. It is also the same exact head gaskets that Richard Clark uses for all his stock and slightly-modified rebuilds. Use whatever your engine builder recommends for a highly-modified engine.

Victor Reinz is the first manufacturer to ever introduce a replacement head gasket all the way back in 1910 - and has pioneered many gasket innovations since. In 1937, Victor Reinz introduced the first non-stick coating, then followed that up 20 years later with the first no re-torque head gasket. In 1984 Victor Reinz was first with graphite head gaskets, then first again in 1992 with the Multi-Layered Steel (MLS) head gasket.

You can't go wrong by using the same head gaskets GM used originally on the 1986-1987 turbo 3.8 sfi engines.

NOTE - We recommend these head gaskets be installed by a qualified mechanic.

Another critical part for any stock or slightly-modified engine rebuild.

1969-1995 GM Cars, including 1969-1988 GM A-Body & G-Body Cars, including 1984-1987 Buick Regal (All Models) -
Reproduction UPGRADED UPPER STEERING COLUMN BEARING KIT

This reproduction steering bearing kit replaces the factory GM bushing kit found at the base of the main steering column. It replaces the following four GM parts: adapter #7805822, bearing #7805700, retainer #7804440, and retainer clip #7804439.

It will fit virtually every GM car from 1969 through 1995.

Ideally, you would want to replace this if you are changing the lower steering shaft, or replacing the steering coupler that attaches to the gear box. The reason is, the lower steering shaft has to be removed to slip the old bearing assembly out and install the new one. You do not have to remove the main steering shaft that this bearing kit goes on to.

This reproduction upgraded bearing kit includes everything you need and comes with the bearing already pressed into the plastic adapter. By offering it as a complete kit, it eliminates any issues with having to try to save any of the original related parts when you remove the old bearing.

Over the years, GM has used either a metal bearing or simply used a rubber-like seal that attached on each side of the plastic adapter. Our research shows that it appears GM simply used a rubber-like two-piece seal on all the 1984-1987 Regals and other G-Body cars. Other cars, such as some of the Corvettes, received the upgraded metal bearing, as did many of the GM vehicles in the early 1990s. By upgrading to a metal ball bearing format, it provides a much tighter secure fit and one that will outlast your car!

It comes with easy-to-follow directions.

Another great steering restoration item to tighten up the steering. A very inexpensive upgrade to do.

NOTE - We also offer related items - 1977-1988 GM A-Body & G-Body Cars including Buick Turbo Regal - Steering Coupler, Part #7569; and 1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal, Rebuilt Power Steering Gear Box, Part #7380.

1977-1988 GM A-Body & G-Body Cars including Buick Turbo Regal -
Reproduction STEERING COUPLER (RAG JOINT)

This reproduction steering coupler is for power steering applications only.

The original steering coupler (rag joint) can become sloppy over years of use or if any engine fluids have spilled on it.

The original GM steering coupler is part of the lower steering shaft. It is not a separate serviceable part from GM. It may not be visible because of the plastic collar, which surrounds the lower steering shaft.

This cover can be unclipped and pushed upward to expose the steering coupler. In order to install this new steering coupler, you need to remove the lower steering shaft and grind off the two drive pins holding the original coupler to the upper flange that is pressed onto the lower steering shaft.

Replacing the original steering coupler (rag joint) is the least expensive option to restore the steering and eliminate any play related to a weak or sloppy steering coupler.

It comes with easy-to-follow directions.

Another great steering restoration item.

NOTE - We also offer a related item - 1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal, Rebuilt Power Steering Gear Box, Part #7380.

NOTE - If you need a steering coupler for another GM car or truck, contact our office, 215-766-1611. We have a complete list of all the vehicles this steering coupler fits, which includes most GM cars from 1977 thru 1995 and most GM trucks from 1982 through 2002. This includes: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again.
