03-31-2021 Inner Circle

Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 03-31-2021 -

WE ARE CLOSED FOR GOOD FRIDAY -

We will not be answering the phone on Good Friday. Some orders may get processed but more than likely they will not be shipped until the following Monday.

FEW MORE UNUSUAL TURBO REGAL PARTS -

These 3 items are listed for sale under the Rare Parts section which only subscribers can view. One is a rare lithograph print that was offered back in 2004. We also show the 3 different watches that we pictured last week. However, last week we forgot to list the watches for sale with the prices. That is the reason we featured them again. The last photo shows the burgundy reproduction horn rings. The only way to get a different color reproduction horn ring other than grey, is the color has to be applied after they are powder coated and before the fake black plastic buttons get glued into the horn ring.

PHOTO 2 - The top left and top right photo shows the brand new 2004 limited Lithographs done by Tim Fredrick in 2004 exclusively for Epitome that did the various scale diecast Turbo Regal models. This is number 456 of 480 copies. The bottom left shows one of the two reproduction horn rings that we did in burgundy. This would match the burgundy interior. The bottom right photo shows the 3 different custom watches. The clear plastic is still on each of the watch bands. They do need a new battery. These were made maybe 5 years ago.

THE DOOR PAD BROADCAST SHEET -

As some owners have discovered if they ever had their door panel off to either install a new power window motor or install our window rattle kit you may have seen taped to the inside door panel, the broadcast sheet. This broadcast sheet can be found in either door. In some cases it can be found tucked in the seat springs in the back seat. This sheet is usually a faded ivory colored paper and in some cases due to age, may be water stained. This paper was the blueprint for the assembly worker as to what options needed to go in that specific car. Codes for the power locks and power windows are two popular references. The color grey was popular of course. Acoustic is probably related to what speakers if the car was to receive the concert sound II system. Date code and sequence code is also on this information sheet. Last, but not least the 17 digit VIN is the last notation on this sheet.

I know years ago when Pete Serio the original window rattle guy would work on the window issues he would show this sheet to the car owner. Most owners wanted this sheet to go with any other paperwork they had documenting their car. Once in a while Pete would find stray bolts or nuts in the door. I remember one case where he found an empty soda can in the door. Nothing like having another rattle not related to the normal possibilities, but a soda can left in the door!

PHOTO 3 - The photo to the left shows a typical passenger door and you can clearly see the broadcast sheet how it was simply taped with black tape to the inside door panel. This is probably the most common location of where the broadcast sheet was placed. The photo to the right shows a typical door broadcast sheet. This one is in very good condition. Note under the heading SPECIAL the code WE2 is printed which stands for Grand National.

The format Buick and other GM car lines used would change every few years. In my collection of various broadcast sheets I found these other two. I believe the smaller one is out of the 1978 Regal I had. The reason I said that is that Pete put faster windows in that car for me many years ago.

PHOTO 4 - The photo on the left shows what I believe is the sheet out of my 1978 Regal I had years ago. The sheet on the right I have no idea how I obtained that sheet but the amount of detail printed on it covers virtually everything including all the options in alphabetical order. It even shows the dealership this particular Buick Regal Limited was shipped to. This may have come out of my 1978 Regal. The reason I say this is the interior was blue as noted on this sheet and the exterior was white as noted on this sheet. Again one of these probably came out of my 1978 Regal Limited years ago.

INFORMATION BOOKLETS UPDATE -

We sold out of the 1986-1987 BUICK TURBO REGAL INFORMATION BOOKLET. However, we are currently printing a run of this same booklet (130 pages) for Castle Performance. To order, email him direct [email protected] He has the 1986-1987 BUICK TURBO REGAL INFORMATION BOOKLET booklet available for $49.95 which includes shipping to the basic 48 states. He will have them available early next week.

I still have a few left of the GNX magazine articles in color and the GNX proposal information. See the Rare Parts section for prices. Remember quantity on these two remaining booklets is limited.

UPDATE ON REBUILT POWERMASTER BRAKE UNITS -

We have about 4 or 5 currently left from the 13 we had last week. We are one of just a handful of sources that have these. Ours has both a new brake switch and brake bowl.

MORE NEW TURBO REGAL PARTS COMING SOON -

Our goal is to add several new Turbo Regal parts each week to expand our product line. Coming soon a nice compact upgraded front brake set up that is a direct bolt on. A welcome upgrade to increase stopping ability no matter what brake system you have.

WE HAVE URGENT DEMAND FOR STOCK 1986-1987 TURBO REGAL TURBO CORES -

We need turbo cores badly. Either issue a letter of credit for $175 or will pay you $175. Help us get out of the hole with this issue. This benefits other Turbo Regal owners. We need cores in order to keep offering stock rebuilt turbos or the upgraded TA49 version. Send with a note which you want to Kirban Performance, 529 Haycock Run Road, Kintnersville, PA 18930. This is an urgent request!

UPDATE ON THE 1994 Z28 CAMARO -

We secured a buyer, actually a dealer in Illinois for this pristine car. I picked it up last weekend. The selling dealer spent almost two grand on the car including new tires and 4 new correct alloy wheels. The car fax was clean and had over 30 entries as both previous owners took exceptional care of the car. Even in the hard rains we recently had the T-Tops did not leak a single drop! Car drives out very tight and rattle free. All stock with the exception of a Borla exhaust system. Never smoked in.

MORE MEMORIES FROM MY PAST -

My wife and I grew up in a small town. My graduating class had less than 100 seniors in it. In my senior year I had recently purchased for $500 a gorgeous 1956 Crown Vic Ford. By the time I was a senior I was already in my 6th or 7th car. The crown Vic model was only made 2 years and had that wide chrome molding across the roof. This one was black and with matching black and white cloth material. It was already nose and decked. Beautiful car which had one issue that became worse as time went on. Either due to lack of oil changes or poor quality oil the valve train did not get much oil. The valve train was caked with sludge. I tried a few tricks to improve oil flow to the rocker shafts all to know avail.

The only option was to get a new engine. Granted things were cheaper back then but I could ill afford a new engine and labor rate for someone to install it. Doing it at home was not an option as we had no big trees on my parents property to hang a chain and even if I did I can’t imagine my parents letting me do it. It was a problem. While I gave it some thought I noticed that the one driveway leading to the one school parking lot was lined with some big trees.

Without asking any school official permission one afternoon I pulled the car up on the school awn under one of the trees and swung a chain over a limb. I removed the hood and began to unhook everything in the engine. I had lined up my neighbor to pick up the rebuilt engine from the local Goodyear store. Meantime Eileen lived only about a block from the high school and would bring me down dinner so I could work until it started to get dark.

In some of my classes I could look out the window and see my Crown Vic under the one tree. Again not a single school official said anything. Classmates knew it was my car. After about 10 days I was able to get everything bolted up to the engine in the car. The real problem was laying on the ground and coaxing the 3-speed manual transmission into the bellhousing. I struggled with this a few nights all to no avail. I could not guide the nose into the pilot bearing or whatever that was called.

I eventually gave up. I had a tow truck tow the car to my house. All this time however I always had a second car which I was using a 1950 Ford. I told my Dad about the problem. Few days later unknown to me my Dad had it towed to a shop and they bolted the transmission in and got the car running. My Dad did this as a gift for me. I was quite grateful. This was the spring of my senior year. Upon graduation I set my sights on buying my first Corvette. I was working many hours for my Dad. On weekends I was a wedding photographer. I sold my Crown Vic Ford to a friend to raise some quick funds to purchase for a 1961 Corvette. I still remember the price $1700. I got to enjoy it for about 3 months. My fun was short lived as by late summer I had my draft notice. I was able to dodge the draft and enlisted which at the time I thought was a better choice. Prior to enlisting I sold the Corvette to a local used car dealer.

My younger sisters would tell me years later the chain I used they saw was still hanging from the tree on school property. I wanted to go get it, but I put it off and too much time had passed and the trees have all been cut down and the chain is long gone. Whoever cut the trees down may have wondered for a few minutes why was there this heavy chain hanging from a tree? I did go back to my High School a number of years ago and donated to the library my first book on Turbo Regals. I think I told the librarian I was not the brightest one from the class of 1965, but maybe the only one that actually wrote a book from that class of 1965. True story.

Maybe 10-12 years ago one of our Turbo Regals customers near me was getting new kitchen cabinets installed in their house. Somehow the subject of the Grand Nationals came up. The guy doing the cabinet work remarked that when he was young he bought a traded cars with a guy from Huntingdon Valley. My customer remembered from stories that I grew up in Huntingdon Valley. Turns out the person doing the new kitchen cabinets had bought my 1956 Crown Vic back in the spring of 1965. True story.

TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

If you have an idea or tip or a product idea, send it to my email [email protected]

TIP FROM KIRBAN -.

Remember to my knowledge we are the only source offering a 100% correct appearing 1986-1987 factory 120 amp alternator and a 200 amp alternator. The pulley is our new reproduction powder coated glossy black. The pulley diameter is critical and unique. The fan is silver cad treated again so the entire unit looks correct. Each one is built and tested by one individual. Warranty for one year is included. See part number #7315 and #7316 on our website. My supplier is only 25 minutes from our location so having stock on hand is never an issue! We sell an average of at least 1 per week! Already one performance shop is using our alternators exclusively. These alternators are quite unique because of their high output 120 amps for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal compared to the other G body cars of that same vintage that require less amps. Almost all the alternators sold today have a gold cad fan and pulley.

In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.

If you have any cores that are being sent back to us, be sure to use the correct address, especially if you use FedEx. Otherwise, we may not receive your package or it may be sent back to you.

GOOD NEWS - WE ARE ACCEPTING CLASSIFIED ADS -

Good news - We now accept Classified Ads in our weekly Inner Circle emails. Over the years several customers have asked about placing an ad in our weekly Inner Circle.

Here are the options and the costs.

Ads can be from any individual or company. It needs to be automotive related, meaning it does not need to be specifically Turbo Regal related. It can be for something for sale or something wanted.

Maximum number of words is 125 words, which is about 7 to 9 lines of copy. No photos. You can list a website. We recommend you state your name, phone number or email, a price, and your location in your ad.

The cost for 2 consecutive weeks is $25. The cost for 4 consecutive weeks is $40. You save $10 with the 4-week plan. No changes can be made to your existing running ad. You can only run one ad at any given time. We will have a code system at the end of your ad, so we will know what week number your ad is to run - 2 or 4 weeks.

It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.
We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.

This plastic power steering reservoir has been reproduced exactly like the original. It is unique for only the 1986 and 1987 Buick Turbo Regals. The lettering on the cap is hand-painted in white.

Originals are prone to cracking or the inlet and outlet orifice can easily get broken.

Very few sources sell it with the hand-painted lettering on the white cap, as shown in the photos.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

URGENT REQUEST - Please, if you have any original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal turbos, cash them in with us for the $175 Letter of Credit. This helps us help our customers obtain the rebuilt turbo they need for their car.
