Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 05-03-2017 -

COOL LOOKING TURBO REGAL VALVE COVER DESK TOP LAMP -

This cool looking Turbo Regal Valve Cover Desk Top Lamp was made for me as a gift from the company across from our shop location. This same company makes the flip-down-stay license plate bracket, part #7720, for us. This flip-down stay-down license plate bracket is a must have part to save fuel spillage on the rear filler panels. This is a simple bolt-on part that requires no holes to be drilled in the factory license plate bracket.

PHOTO 1 - The photos shows this desk top lamp that the owner of company across from our shop, Paul, recently made for me. The photo on the left shows it not lit. The photo on the right shows it lit up, powered by a strip of LED lights, it consists of an original Turbo Regal valve cover as the top and the base is a bicycle sprocket. The pull chain uses an actual correct AC Delco spark plug in the end.

The overall height is approximately 12 inches with an 8 inch diameter base. We are thinking about making a few of these in kit form and offering them for sale. If you are interested, email me - [email protected] - as I have picked up a few Turbo Regal valve covers and I am getting them powder coated. This is a great unique gift idea for any suit-and-tie guy for his desk at work.

BUICK 5 FOOT LONG TAILLIGHT -

On one of the Buick models in the early 1990s Buick used a taillight that extended across the entire width of the car. I actually found one of this taillight assembly that was in mint condition last week in a junkyard. It is almost 5 feet long. It has the Buick tri-shield emblem in the middle. Back in the day, this taillight was probably a $400 or more from Buick, if you had to buy it.

I plan to have Paul make a bracket to hang it and wire it with LED lights. This would make a unique wall light. I may offer it for sale when it’s done. If you are interested, send me an email. It definitely would be a one-of-a-kind wall light.

PHOTO 2 - Shows this rare Buick 5-foot-long taillight that I removed from an early 1990s Buick model last week in a junkyard. It appears that the car was garage kept as it is in very good condition. It was difficult to photograph. Not many GM vehicles had a single taillight that was the length of the car.

MY LAST CAR TRAILER IS FOR SALE -

Last year I sold my open car trailer to Paul Castle. Because of his schedules, he has not yet picked it up. He is planning to come next month for it when he attends the Chevrolet Carlisle event. However, if someone is interested, it is for sale for $1,195. It is at our location in Pennsylvania.

The Dively trailer was built in 2007. This was the second Dively open trailer I bought new and I used it to trailer the Turbo Regals that we would buy. I sold the first Dively open trailer I used to Richard Clark.

This Dively trailer is the perfect size for any G-body car. The fenders are low enough so you can open the doors with the car on the trailer. It rides on newer Goodyear radials specific for a trailer. The wheels and tires have been balanced. The tires show no dry rot. The gross trailer weight is 7,000 lbs with the empty trailer weighing a mere 1,350 lbs. This makes it very light weight to maneuver. I would venture a guess that over 100 different Turbo Regals rode on this trailer over the years.

PHOTO 3 - We show 4 photos of the Dively open trailer. If you are interested, email me [email protected] - as we are handling the sale for Paul Castle. Trailer has 4-wheel brakes, which is required in most states. Ramps are tucked into the back. Trailer has all the proper lighting and a spare, as shown in the photos. These trailers new now sell for about $2,300.

MY FORD RANGER AND OUR SON’S CUSTOM-BUILT 6-DOOR FORD F-650 -

A few weeks back we said we would post photos showing the size difference between our son’s custom-built 6-door Ford F-650 and my little 1996 Ford Ranger pickup truck. Darrell has made the F-650 look customized and modern with special touches like molded-in F150 headlights, a custom molded hood, and the new-style emblems are recessed into the side of the hood. Devyn even hand painted the Cat diesel engine. He now has a cap on the back portion to complete the look. Inside and out, this creation is show quality and impressive.

PHOTO 4 - The photo on the top left shows both trucks on our driveway at home before the windows were tinted and the cap was put on the back. My 1996 Ford Ranger has the extended bed yet still dwarfs our son’s Ford F-650. The photo on the top right shows it in Maryland on their first long drive. The lower photo shows the truck and their boat on its way to enjoy the summer. Darrell has even fitted his massive truck creation with an air ride cab and suspension, so even when it’s empty, it rides nice and smooth.

It’s a shame he never kept track of all the hours he and his crew spent on this massive project. It is definitely a one-of-a-kind truck!

NOTE - There may be a delay for me to answer any emails this week since I’m at the Richard Clark’s Garage / TurboBuick.com event. I will answer emails as soon as I can.

PHOTOS FROM OUR 30th ANNIVERSARY OPEN HOUSE EVENT -

We had a nice email from Jordan Polites this week with a link to some photos he took at our 30th Anniversary Open House event on April 22nd. We’d like to share it with our readers:

“Hi Dennis - I just wanted to pass along the link to the photos I took at your event. They can be found here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/122438087@N06/albums/72157680332538642.

Unfortunately, my car wasn't ready in time but I really enjoyed the event. I purchased the GNX Fortunate 500 poster during the auction. I also wanted to thank you for your efforts getting my Window Sticker order pushed through. I had sent Christina all of my documentation before the open house, then saw in your Inner Circle they were being discontinued again. My original was damaged by the dealer when they removed it from the car and just wanted a good copy to add to my documentation.

Thanks again. Jordan Polites”

REPRODUCTION WINDOW STICKERS UPDATED INFORMATION -

We will be able to make reproduction 1986 and 1987 Turbo Regal Window Stickers ONLY if you have a readable copy of the original Window Sticker. The reproduction would be on the correct perforated paper in the correct size.

As of this writing, I do not have prices on making original Window Sticker copies. Once we do, we will let you know. We had to discontinue making the reproduction Turbo Regal Window Stickers based on our customer supplying the information as it just got way too involved in making them based on scattered information supplied to us. In most cases, the information was incomplete, making it time consuming to create an exact Window Sticker.

ECS Automotive Concepts is a huge company that does most of the insurance decals on many of the late model cars and trucks.

However, if you have an original Window Sticker, we can still do it working from your original Window Sticker. You MUST supply us with a readable copy.

NOTE - The door VIN decals are not affected. We will always offer the door VIN decals through ECS Automotive Concepts for any GM car from 1969 thru 1989.

THE NEW PARTS JUST KEEP COMING -

At our recent Open House, a vendor approached me about a new idea he had. We currently have a shop across from our shop making us a sample. It is the same shop that made the Valve Cover LED desk lamp you see in Photo 1.

If this new idea works, it will work on every 1984 through 1987 Turbo Regal.

Watch for updates on this cool idea for your Turbo Regal.

JUNKYARD MEMORIES -

Back in the 1980s, I would attend the yearly GTOAA National Meet and the POCI National meet as a vendor. My mechanic, Big Bill, would go with me and I would pull a 13-foot Scotty trailer that we would sleep in at night, usually in various camp sites. Usually the two National meets would be one or two weeks apart in various parts of the country.

I remember that one year it made no sense to drive home between the two events, so instead we would seek out junkyards to look for parts in between the two events.

I remember being around Athens, Georgia and this huge yard was all fenced in with a huge bull that roamed the yard. We were told to keep an eye on the bull and make sure we ducked down between cars if we saw him coming our way. That was probably the most unusual junkyard experience I had years ago.

It was great being able to remove GTO fenders from cars with zero rust issues. Big Bill supplied the ability; I marked out the cars for him and he removed any of the little parts I wanted.

One night on a trip we stopped at a camp site for the night. Big Bill had to get up in the middle of the night to use the rest room. As a trick I started up the truck and moved it completely to the other side of the camp site behind a huge motor home, so when he emerged from the rest room he was totally confused as to where the truck and camper was. Needless to say, he did not appreciate the joke.

I didn’t realize it at the time, but those were some great times for Big Bill and me. If you recall, it is Big Bill’s red tool box that sits in my pole building today. Whenever I see it, it reminds me of all the times I lugged it all over during the 1980s on my many road trips.

ONE BILLION DOLLARS AND CLIMBING -

One billion dollars in worldwide sales and climbing is the “Fast & Furious #8” movie in the series. I think you will quickly see other directors take notice and start making movies that center around fast cars.

The buzz word is strong for the upcoming movie titled, “Baby Driver” movie due out in late June of this year.

RACCOONS CAN PICK LOCKS -

I read a recent article that says raccoons can pick a lock in less than 10 tries and just as important, it can remember the solution for up to 3 years. It makes you wonder why thieves have not utilized their skills. No finger prints to track and one less person to share the treasures with!

I doubt most humans would have a 3-year recall on how to pick the same lock. I wonder whose job it is to do these studies?

RUNNING OUT OF GREY PALLEX MATERIAL -

Currently we have sold out of every bit of the black pallex material. We only have small sections of the grey pallex material available. We have nothing over 3 feet in length in grey pallex. See the Rare Parts section for some of the various lengths of grey pallex available and pricing.

TIP FROM KIRBAN -

If you plan to buy our new reproduction rear radio speakers, part #7789, here is a tip to avoid cutting the factory plug ends. Make a short jumper harness so you can use the proper wire ends to the new speakers without cutting the factory plug ends.

TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

If you have a tip or a discovery that you found that works on your Turbo Regal, drop us an email giving us the details so we can pass the info on to our readers. Remember, even with my knowledge, I don’t know it all. Simply email me at - [email protected]

KIRBAN SEMINAR TURBO REGAL EVENT - LEMONT, ILLINOIS -
Tuesday June 27th, 2017, 6 until 9 pm

Paul has recently informed me that he will give everyone that brings a Turbo Regal to this event a free Silver Billet T shirt. I will also be doing a mini no reserve auction! This is a rare opportunity to hear one of my seminars in your area. Since I am speaking on Hurst later that week at the GTOAA National meet, I will also show you some of the very rare Hurst items and artwork that I have.

The location is Castle Performance, 220 River Street, Lemont, Illinois. I have arranged with Paul Castle and the local Buick GS Club to coordinate this event since I will be in Illinois as a speaker later that week at the GTO National convention.

NOTE - If you are planning on attending this seminar at Castle Performance in Lemont, Illinois, please email - [email protected] so we have an idea how many people to expect. I will have a specific gift for each attendee.

I will have some tagged and bagged Turbo parts with me and the usual M&Ms contest. This should be a fun time. Mark the date on your calendar. I have a special guest that will also be attending, that has been making a certain Turbo Regal part for us for over 25 years. You probably have it on your Turbo Regal.

We will have a special gift for all attendees! Hope to see many of my Illinois customers there.

Paul and the local GS Club request you bring a lawn chair. Food and drinks will be provided. If you reside anywhere near Lemont, Illinois, we hope you can attend and bring your Turbo Regal. I would love to meet some of my customers that may have never been to the GS Nationals. This is a rare opportunity, since I don’t travel long distances much anymore.

NOTE - You can bring any cores to cash in for credit at this event. It saves you shipping costs.

You can use my name and say you are a guest of mine, if you plan to come Thursday.

JULY 14-16, 2017
Carlisle Fairgrounds, Carlisle, PA

This year’s Chrysler event has a special all new Hurst Nationals July 14th and 15th in conjunction with the Chrysler Nationals. I have been asked to conduct a seminar on Hurst both days, July 14th and 15th. The location of my seminars as well as the other seminars is held just off the grounds from Gate 3 at the Expo Center. They have not yet told me my speaking times.

My granddaughter, Devyn hopes to go with me to help. With Chrysler introducing the Demon this April, my guess is they will have several Demons on display at Carlisle. Hope to see some of my customers at this event. I am as well versed with early Hurst history as I am with Turbo Regals.

As with all my seminars, I will be doing a M&Ms contest in honor of my parents. The Don Garlits autographed connecting rod will make a nice prize!

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1978-1988 G-Body (Including 1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal Models) -
Reproduction 4″ x 10″ REAR SPEAKERS (2) SET

It has been hard to locate a suitable 4″ x 10″ speaker for the 1984-1987 Turbo Regal rear package shelf. The space is too narrow to use anything but a 4″ x 10″ speaker. It must also fit the factory cage bracket.

We found this suitable reproduction 8 ohm speaker. You do have to replace the connector ends, since the factory plug on the harness will not fit the terminals on this new speaker.

These fit the factory metal cage that GM used to secure the original rear speakers.

Over the years, age and sunlight have probably cracked the original speakers. These are a perfect replacement.

A nice upgrade for any interior restoration.

EXTERIOR SOLAR LED MOTION LIGHT PANEL -

This exterior solar LED motion light panel is a neat compact product that fills a need for any home owner, shop owner, or apartment owner. It’s a simple and inexpensive method to light up a walkway at your house, or garage door way.

Since it’s powered by the sun, it means zero electric costs!

Panel is compact, just 4" x 6" x 1/2". The housing is white. It has 36 LED lights that equals the output of a 100 watt incandescent bulb! It does this with zero costs to your electric bill.

It has 3 different modes that you can set. MODE 1 - It can come on at dusk on low power and stay on until dawn. MODE 2 - It can be set to come on at dusk on low power, go to full power by motion, then revert back to lower power. MODE 3 - It can be set to go on by motion at dusk on full power and turn off after about 10 seconds if no motion is detected or activate by motion walking by it.

Most small solar powered outside motion lights are rated at only 20 to 50 watt and less than 400 lumens, unless you buy the larger ones. This one equals a 100 watt incandescent light and 450 lumens. Not only is this compact and bright enough to light any walk way or entrance, it is priced below most units available in stores.

You can mount this anywhere outside as long as it gets direct sunlight. The ideas are endless. It pays for itself since it draws no electric energy!

SPECIFICATIONS -
Compact size - 4" x 6" x 1/2" - Weighs 6 ounces - 50,000-hour operating life
450 lumens / zero energy usage - Equal to a 100 w incandescent bulb -

The top right shows just how bright the 36 LED lights are when they go on. The lower left photo shows our back door entrance at our home lit with a normal 100 watt bulb. 1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
TRANSLATOR CUSTOM-MADE BLACK MOUNTING BRACKET

When converting your car to a modern Mass Air Flow sensor, such as an LT1 or LS1 style sensor, a translator is needed. This is a custom-made mounting bracket to hold the Mass Air Flow Sensor Translator.

This bracket provides a simple, yet effective way of mounting the Translator in a convenient location.

This clever bracket was designed and produced by one of our customers. He saw a need to eliminate have the translator wire tied under the hood.

The bracket is made in acrylic and painted black. It mounts using existing holes. NO modifications are made to the car or to the translator. It also leaves enough space below the bracket to access the headlight wiring or if you have the charcoal canister and stock intake or even a 4" Cold Air Intake pipe.

Once installed, the custom-made bracket is barely visible.

The bracket comes with a spacer and easy-to-follow directions.

Our photo on the left shows the bracket and the photo on the right shows it installed on a car.

NOTE - This bracket will not work if you retain the factory air cleaner box.

NOTE - You may also be interested in these related parts - #7326 MAF Translator and #7342 Rebuilt AC Delco LT1 Mass Air Flow Sensor.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
