MORE RELATED ITEMS TO THE GNX -

To mark the 100th year anniversary of Buick in 2003 Epitome and GMP teamed up and did a special GNX 1:18 scale GNX making 2003 of them. This was produced for Buick’s Centennial Celebration in Flint, Michigan, which took place July 23rd through July 27th 2003. In that count they did a special numbered group for each of the real GNX cars. This number is on a gold serialized license plate on the back of each numbered car. With each numbered GNX comes a Tim Frederick Buick Centennial lithograph that also is numbered in gold. This full color lithograph measures 20 by 16 inches. The remaining number minus the 547 would make up the total to 2003 that were produced over 10 years ago.

PHOTO 1 - The photo on the left shows the top of the actual box that the 1:18 scale diecast GNX was packaged in. In the photo on the right we show a side of the box that has the sticker showing the GNX number that appears on the GNX in this box making it one of just 547. See our parts listing; this is for sale along with another one we have that is for car #538. It is also 100% complete and brand new in the box and comes with the numbered art print as well.

PHOTO 2 - The photo on the left shows the actual 1:18 scale GNX. To the right of the car we show the Certificate of Authenticity card, which identifies the GNX number. In this case, it's #460. The photo on the right shows a close up of the gold license plate - that same #460.

PHOTO 3 - Shows the lithograph that Tom Frederick did and numbered that came with each of the special numbered GNX diecast cars. This print only came with the numbered 547 cars.

REPORT FROM GM AT CARLISLE -

As we noted previously, Pete and I were both there only on Friday. There was just a handful of Turbo Regals there Friday. In the Cars for Sale section I did spot one 1987 Grand National for sale. The engine was heavily modified and the car needed some TLC. It sported a $18,000 price tag or best offer.

PHOTO 4 - Top left photo shows the 1987 Grand National, which had T-Tops. It was missing all the wheel well trim and appeared to lack the chip guard across the bottom of both sides. One of the main attractions was the Smokey and the Bandit display. The top right photo shows the police car that Jackie Gleason would have been driving in the movie with the Bandit Trans Am. In the background was a Kenworth Tractor Trailer that Jerry Reed drove. We did not see any signs to indicate if these were the actual vehicles from the movie or reproductions. The bottom left photo shows the row of Smokey and the Bandit Trans Ams that were across from the tractor trailer display. The bottom right shows Burt Reynolds signature on the dash of one of the Trans Ams. What was touching was painted on the back of the truck it said “In Loving Memory of Hal Needham” 1931-2013.

In case you're curious, there never was a factory built Bandit Trans Am. However, around 1980-1981 a company called Trans Am Specialties, out of Cherry Hill, New Jersey built approximately 200 that became Burt Reynolds' signature models. I know this as being true because back then we had a towing business and I recall towing a Trans Am to their shop. Jump ahead to 1987-1988 and Burt Reynolds at one time owned a GNX. I can recall him having someone on his staff order parts from us for his GNX when he lived in Jupiter, Florida. I have no idea who owns his GNX today or if he still owns it.

It’s unfortunate that the Pontiac Trans Ams during that time frame like most American Performance cars lacked any real performance. For the Pontiac Trans Ams, in particular, 1974 was the last year in the 1970s that had any real punch with the 1972-1973 models packing a real wallop with the optional 455 Super Duty engines. Still the Smokey and the Bandit movie provided good PR for Pontiac and I am sure increased sales of the Trans Am in black with T-Tops!

Hi Dennis,

Here is an interesting GNX story of mine that I thought you might want to share in your next newsletter. I bought my GNX #139 in 1991 from a car broker who recovered the car as a stolen/recovery from insurance company. The car was stolen out of the owner's garage, along with several other cars to include a ZR1 some time around 1989-1990. When I got the car from the broker, I did not get any of the accessories such as the Window Sticker, numbered book or jacket.

Fast forward to 2005 with the advent of the internet and I was able to find what dealership the car was purchased from and contacted them who told me who the original owner was. With this information I was able to contact the owner's wife and inquired about the Window Sticker, book, jacket and any other items that were still around. Sadly she told me that her husband had passed away a year earlier but she remembered having all of those items, which she had given to her son.

She gave me his contact information and I called him. He was just a small boy when the car was stolen, but he remembered the GNX and said that he had the numbered book and jacket but not any of the paper work. His mind was blown when I told him that I had the car since 1991. I told him that I had no plans to sell the car and that I wanted the book and jacket to go with the car. He agreed to sell me the items for a very fair price.

It is a neat story on how these items were able to find their way back to the GNX and I am very pleased to have them. I hope you will share this story with your readers.

Sincerely,
Mike Custer

MORE UNUSUAL VEHICLES SURFACED NEAR US FOR SALE -

From time to time, whenever we spot an unusual or an exceptional car or truck for sale, we will put a blurb in our weekly Inner Circle. In this category we will run the descriptions for two weeks and, if there is no interest in that particular vehicle, it will be deleted the following week. Any new vehicles that we add will appear first, so the oldest listing would be at the end of this section. If any of these vehicles perk your interest, email me personally - [email protected] - for more information and photos.

GNX FOR SALE -

GNX #314 is for sale. Car is a two owner with the current owner having owned it for 16 years. It has been garaged and covered. Mileage is just under 11,000. Owner does have the jacket, but no book. Car is 100% stock runs and drives. The power antenna does not work and the fillers need to be replaced as they are showing cracks. Paint and body is mint and car still retains the new car smell. I know the owner as I bought 4 turbo cars from him and his son over 10 years ago. I did see the GNX years ago.

He has hardly used it as the mileage indicates. The price tag is $54,000. For more info and photos, email me direct - [email protected] . The GNX is located in Maryland.

1964 COBRA - This car has been storage for 40 years and titled in 2002. Driven in 2004 by John Force to set the record for 0-100-0 times for a U.S. Production car. This was accomplished in under 11 seconds flat by John Force and documented. This Cobra is just one of seven that were supercharged of the 40 that were titled in 2002 on the 40th anniversary. This car can be bought from the original owner for a price tag of $5 million and includes extra parts and trailer. May be tough to get creative financing! Currently it is appraised for just over $6 million dollars. It is fully documented. If this car perks your interest and you have the funds available, email me - [email protected] I can provide photos as I just saw this car personally over the weekend.

1993 CORVETTE - I do not have much information or photos on this car yet. This car is in Chicago and belongs to a long-time friend of ours who makes parts for us. It’s a 1993 Corvette anniversary model, red on red. Absolutely in mint condition, garaged its entire life, with a mere 4,000 miles on it. It will be priced very reasonably as they want to sell it. I will have more info and photos shortly.

1987 FORD BRONCO XLT - This is a two-owner vehicle, and never smoked in. It has a brand new rebuilt 2.9 motor with new crank. All the options work, including power windows, power locks, tilt, cruise, and electric push button 4 wheel drive. AC blows ice cold. It has new dual exhaust system with stainless steel mufflers. All the paint is original, except for hood and roof. Bronco is two tone blue and white. Current owner has owned it for four years. It comes with three extra sets of wheels and tires! No rust ever. If the engine would be detailed, this Bronco would be show quality material. Body and interior are show quality. It is that nice. The interior is flawless, nothing shows any wear issues. A Kirban quality vehicle that belongs to a local individual, who I first met about 20-plus years ago. He was a salesman at a local car dealership I used to tow for. He is asking $10,500 or best offer. You would be hard pressed to find a better example.

If any of these vehicle strikes your interest, email me for more info and photos - [email protected]

WE NEED YOUR INPUT -

We need your input if you have changed over to a dual fan format to cool the engine. I would like to know what year and what car model dual fan format fits the best to the stock radiator and can easily be adapted to the stock wiring harness. Since I go to various You Pull It Yards, I may be able to find some of these dual fan setups, which would provide better cooling.

HOT SELLERS IN STOCK -

I picked up another shipment of Pypes exhaust systems, Part #6996. Keep in mind, on our website the $399.95 price includes ground shipping to any of the basic 48 states. Some companies may offer free shipping but then add a handling charge.

We also have the Scanmaster 2.1 in stock, Part #6783 for $249.95.

Another popular item is the translator, Part #7326 for $199.95.

All of these are in stock for immediate delivery.

These three items along with the Spoolfool fillers are very good sellers for us.

TRADE VALUE -

We are one of the few companies that accept items in partial trade towards parts you may want. If you have any NOS Turbo Regal parts or cores that we can use, email me direct - [email protected]. You can save money against the GNX wheels. Sometimes it’s easier to trade in parts you are not using and get something you want for your car in return.

TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

If you have a tip or a discovery that you found that works on your Turbo Regal, drop us an email giving us the details so we can pass the info on to our readers. Remember, even with my knowledge, I don’t know it all. Simply email me at - [email protected]

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1985-1987 Buick Regal (All Models) -
GM SPARE TIRE MOUNTING ADAPTER

Securing the original spare in the trunk can be cumbersome without having the correct parts to secure the jack and spare tire in place.

This is the 3-1/2" steel adapter is part of what is used to secure the factory spare tire in the trunk well. It is one of the main parts necessary to secure the factory spare in the trunk.

GM discontinued this, but we found a source that has a supply of them.

NOTE - The Buick Turbo Regal spare is also a unique size. The correct spare tire size is T155/80D16.

NOTE - You may also be interested in these related parts - #6509 Reproduction of the Original Carpet Material Black Molded Trunk Carpet, #6703 Carpeted Rear Seat Trunk Panel, #6753 Spare Tire Filler Black Panel, or #7098 Sound Deadener / Insulation Grey Jute Inner Trunk Divider.

Another nice restoration item.

VACUUM BRAKES -

Currently we only offer the new vacuum brake system. However, we are working on making another vacuum kit that will include a vacuum brake pedal, a rebuilt booster and a new master cylinder. It will also come with a vacuum block with port and the vacuum hose as well. This will be priced quiet reasonable. Keep in mind, vacuum brake conversions are best suited for a fairly stock application. Modified cars decrease the amount of available vacuum. What some car owners do is to add a vacuum can, which basically is a reservoir to store vacuum. This is popular on older cars that have performance cams.

HYDRO-BOOST BRAKE SYSTEM UPDATE -

We now have two versions available in kit form. See New Products below and click on the link on our website. We hope to have yet another version available shortly. On a side note, we will also have a chrome tube available that you can slip over the cylinder on the hydro-boost system to make it better looking. This will be a two-piece design made from copper and brass, so once it’s chrome plated it will never rust.

We are doing two different lengths to cover the various cylinders on the hydro-boost units.

Early 1980s Buick Regal -
1977-1982 Corvette -
MASTER CYLINDERS FOR HYDRO-BOOST CONVERSION

We offer two different master cylinder options -

#7615 - Is the rebuilt master cylinder for a stock 1984-1985 Turbo Regal Hydro-Boost system. It will also work if you are converting a 1986-1987 Turbo Regal to a Hydro-Boost system.

#7616 - Is the new master cylinder if you are converting a 1986-1987 Turbo Regal to a Hydro-Boost system. Although this is a Corvette part, it is correct for the Hydro-Boost conversion.

The master cylinder pictured above on the left is an early 1980s Regal rebuilt master cylinder. The one on the right is a brand new 1977-1982 Corvette master cylinder that also works on most hydro-boost conversion kits.

NOTE - On the early Buick Regal master cylinder, the two inlets for the pre-formed brake lines are in the same order as the ones on the powermaster. The larger opening is towards the front and the smaller inlet is towards the rear or firewall. The Buick master cylinder is rebuilt. No core is required.

NOTE - The Corvette master cylinder the two inlets are reversed, meaning you have to carefully massage the two existing metal brake lines so they will screw into the master cylinder. We also recommend you only use a line wrench when removing and re-installing the brake lines. The Corvette master cylinder should be clear coated or painted cast grey, so it will not rust. The Corvette master cylinder is brand new. Although this is a Corvette part, it is correct for the Hydro-Boost conversion.

Another great restoration item.

7615 - Early 1980s Buick Regal -
Rebuilt Master Cylinder for Hydro-Boost Conversion - $24.95 (no core required)

7616 - 1977-1982 Corvette -
New Master Cylinder for Hydro-Boost Conversion - $36.95 NOTE - Although this is a Corvette part, it is correct for the Hydro-Boost Conversion.

HERE IS WHERE I WILL BE IN THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKS -

The first week in July the GTOAA holds their national meet at the Double Tree Hotel at the Monroeville Convention Center in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. (Just east of Pittsburgh). I am one of the guest speakers on Wednesday, July 2nd at 3 pm. I have spoken at several of the GTOAA National events in the past. I will be there Tuesday thru Thursday. This event is open to all Pontiacs and since it’s the 50th Anniversary for the 1964 GTO, they expect a huge turnout. It’s hard to believe a car that our company started making parts for in the late 1970s would still be celebrated 50 years later. We are just as well known among those owners as we are with the Turbo Buick owners. I just don’t know the GTOs as good as I know the Turbo Regals now!

ALWAYS LOOKING FOR IDEAS -

If you have any product ideas that would fit our Turbo Buick market that you would like to see available, email me direct - [email protected]

ALWAYS IN A BUYING POSITION WORKS -

Got any Turbo Buick parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - [email protected]. Also, we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING - Pete and I had a good time at GM at Carlisle this past Friday. It was great weather. I bought a car that I saw at GM at Carlisle that we will have up for sale shortly. It is not a Turbo Buick. It will be price around $6,895. This car is a Kirban quality car through out, with records and original Window Sticker. Garaged since new. The seller was only there for Friday and I looked it over at Carlisle. As luck would have it, he only lives about 35 miles from me so I went to his house Saturday to drive it again. I stuck at my original offer price and he called me Saturday night and agreed to my offer. Watch for information next week.
