Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members - 07-03-2013

KIRBAN PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS will be closed for the 4th of July holiday on Thursday and Friday, July 4th and 5th. We will reopen Monday, July 8th. Have a great Independence Day! Hoping everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July. Remember, you can’t be too careful if you handle fireworks. We had an older classmate in high school lose his one eye due to faulty fireworks.

JULY'S CARTOON -

"Daddy? How are we going to know which car is ours?" Cartoon #008

July’s cartoon reminds me of the two big Reunion events we did at the Johnsville Airbase in Warminster, PA. I can remember counting 98 Grand Nationals bumper to bumper in a double row at one of those events. Those days seem like so long ago now!

THE NEW HAPPY OWNER OF THE 5,200-MILE GRAND NATIONAL -

Below is his story:

"Back in April I was in the market to purchase a Grand National. I looked on eBay and classiccars.com - No luck on eBay, but I found one on Classic Cars.

It was a 1987 Grand National in northeastern Pennsylvania. I called the dealer and he told me car was perfect with 40,000 miles, one owner and you know the whole nine yards. So, me and my friend Russell Rech, who is the best GN expert and mechanic in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (he loves those turbo Buicks) took the road trip to see the 1987 Grand National.

What a wasted trip. The car was nothing like the pictures. Russell said on way back to Pittsburgh, he could tell when I got out of my truck I looked disgusted and wasn't going to buy it. Only good thing from the trip was stopping at an Amish Restaurant for dinner.

I woke up the next day disgusted about the trip and decided to call Dennis and ask him if he knew anybody selling a Grand National. He said I should have called him first. He said a guy in New Jersey (Eric) bought a Grand National from him 9 years ago with 4,950 miles on it, Eric only put a couple hundred miles on it in 9 years. Dennis said the car is like brand new, original tires, under hood is spotless with real nice paint. I bought the car and trailered the car home from New Jersey. I already took it to some car shows and everybody says the car is beautiful. I want to thank Dennis for helping me get one of his cars.

All I can say is, if you're looking to buy one of these cars, call Dennis first. Thanks again.

Pete from Pittsburgh"

The funny thing about this true story is when Pete was in northeastern Pennsylvania, he was only about 45 minutes from Eric's Grand National in west central New Jersey. Also, the Grand National he did buy was actually cheaper than the one he originally was looking at with 40,000 miles on it.

PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows Pete Lockwich along side his new pride and joy, the 5,200-mile 1987 Buick Grand National. The other photos show various shots of his car.

ONE MAN'S PRIVATE MUSCLE CAR COLLECTION - PART 3

This is the last part to this article. Henry is still adding a few more cars to his collection.

PHOTO 3 - The top photo shows the very rare front end of the limited production M package on a 1994 BMW 850 CSI. The M package had a different front end than the regular 850 models. According to Henry, only 200 were built. Of that count of 200, only 17 were red. The bottom photo shows the V12 powerplant and the M logo can be seen on the intake cover.

AUTOMOTIVE RELATED JACKETS -

Most of our readers know about the rare GNX jackets that Molly had made for GNX owners. It was part of their package with the numbered GNX book. If you wanted, Molly would even embroider your GNX car number on your jacket, from what I recall.

I am familiar with four other unique automotive jackets, two of which are from the 1960s time frame.

Hurst sold one and so did Pontiac, which sported the Judge logo and was available when the 1969 GTO Judge came out. Pontiac also did one for the 1989 Turbo Trans Am.

All five jackets share a similar bond - all are spring-style light-weight jackets. All five to each specific market are highly sought after today.

To my knowledge, only the GTO Judge jacket was reproduced a few years ago in limited quantities. No one has reproduced the Hurst jacket at least correctly, and no one has reproduced the GNX jacket or the Turbo Trans Am Pace Car jacket. Not as valuable in my opinion, would be the early-style Buick Pace car jacket that I sold a few years back. I have of course, a GNX jacket and one of the rare Hurst jackets as well. Both are originals.

It is difficult to put a fixed value on an article of clothing. The key to a high price tag is to have two or more individuals at the same time want it badly and specifically for a car they own.

Again, these are the ones I am aware of. I am sure other car lines offered jackets over time too.

PHOTO 4 - Shows the one 1969 GTO Judge magazine ad that not only features the new 1969 GTO Judge hardtop, but the individual is wearing the Judge jacket. I took the bottom photo at the Performance Years Car Show and it shows one of the GTO Judge jackets hanging in a 1969 GTO Judge. It made a nice car show display.

TURBO BUICK WINDOW STICKERS DISCONTINUED -

Our source for making the Turbo Buick Window Stickers, Triple A Enterprises, is upgrading his equipment. Because of the costs involved in buying the various programs and the low Buick response, he will no longer be able to do the Buick reproduction Buick Window Stickers.

His Corvette portion of the business takes up most of his time, plus he does them for the Corvette museum.

I wish I had better news to report. He was our only option to getting them reproduced.

CHECK THIS OUT ON YOU TUBE -

A good customer of ours and personal friend Bill Strobel sent me this link on YouTube.

It's entitled, "Buick History" and runs about 45 minutes in length. It's a very informative video on the beginnings of Buick. I even learned a few things I never realized, such as convincing Albert Champion to come on board and start the AC spark plug company. Also Walter Chrysler originally was employed at Buick before starting Chrysler.

Be sure to check it out.

COMING SOON -

We will soon have new plastic main lenses available for the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals - both for the analog dash and the optional digital dash. This will complete our product line that freshens up everything that you see when you are driving. We have the LED upgraded dash lights, the low fuel warning, the telltale lenses and once we have the main lenses, it will make everything complete.

We are also working on an upgrade H4 headlight system. The goal is to have everything plug-and-play and use a glass headlight that is as close to factory original as possible. This way you can retain a stock appearance yet have improved night vision over the outdated sealed beam format.

Last, but not least, we are working on having a unique GNX item and should have the pricing and counts worked out in the next two weeks. This will be a collectible item available in several sizes.

So, as you can see we are always looking for new ideas to improve the cars that many of you have come to love. Now if I just had an answer for oil drips and wind noise!

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1984-1987 Turbo Regal -
Reproduction GNX FENDER LOUVERS (2) Set

These GNX reproduction fender louvers will fit all 1984-1987 Regals. In addition to allowing some engine heat to be released from under the hood, these louvers make a unique finishing touch to your car.

The louvers are manufactured in a black plastic-like material. As you know, the quality of the plastic on the original louvers was not perfect. These louvers must be sanded and primed if you plan to paint them before being installed onto the front fenders.

Louvers come with directions and a template so you can trim the metal and place them in the correct position on the front fender. You will need to use some sort of windshield sealer to secure the louvers to the fenders.

NOTE - We highly recommend you have them installed by a qualified body shop, since the fenders need to be cut to install these louvers.

NOTE?- We also offer a Reproduction GNX Sensor Bracket and Inner Fender Louver Bezel Kit, Part #7117. Inner fender bezels are used when you cut the two inner fenders in order to make the fender louvers functional.

A nice effect for any Regal owner that wants the GNX look!

1978-1987 Buick Regal (All G-Body Models) -
REPRODUCTION DOOR JAMB VENTS (2) SET

These reproduction vents will fit all 1978-1988 G-body models, including the Turbo models.

Your original door vents may be cracked or faded, due to age. Or, there may simply have paint overspray on them.

When you remove the original vent, you will notice a build up of dust and dirt. It’s a great time to clean this area.

Our top photo shows the 2 new vents. The lower left photo shows the door jamb without the vent (you can see the dirt against the white paint). The lower right photo shows our car with the new vent installed.

An excellent replacement item for any interior restoration.

1978-1987 Regal (All Models) -
COLUMN PRO-GARD STEERING COLLAR LOCK

This car guard collar lock, “Column Pro-Gard - Auto Security Device,” will fit any 1984-1987 Regal model with either console or column shifters. It also fits a wide variety of other GM vehicles, including 1978-1987 Jeeps. A full listing for other applications appears on the box.

The red, solid steel construction collar guard covers the steering column as well as the ignition switch. The lock for this collar is incorporated into the unit, which makes it easy to use and store.

Since it is bright red, it is highly visible on the steering column. It comes with two special keys.

Remember, it is important to have as many theft deterrents as possible to keep your Regal in your possession. This collar guard makes it especially difficult to break the steering column in your car.

We highly recommend this unit as a visible theft deterrent to use along with some other device that cuts off the fuel system or ignition. You can never be too safe. Don't wait until it's too late.

Another great theft deterrent.

1984-1987 Buick Regal (All Models) -
Reproduction DASH FILTER LENSES (TELLTALE Lenses)
ORIGINAL or with ALKY wording FOR LEFT & RIGHT DASH INSERTS (2)

GM called these dash filter lenses “TELLTALE Lenses.”

We offer two options.

#7201 is a reproduction of the original wording on the two lenses.

#7202 has been customized by changing two areas. On the left lens it reads “LOW ALKY” where it originally said “LOW FUEL.” On the right lens it reads “ALKY” where it said “POWER INJECTION.” We have highlighted the areas with a red arrows in the second photo.

Now, if you have the Alky system, you can make those two areas light up so you are kept informed.

These new reproduction filter lenses set are made in the U.S.A. Material is .020 thick, same as the original. The material is clear Lexan. Lenses have a dead front, like the originals, so no wording is visible until the light are on.

These replace both lenses that are on each side of the main dash cluster (highlighted with the blue arrows in our second photo,) whether you have the analog dash or the optional digital dash.
Over the years, the originals are probably scratched or faded.

These lenses are very easy to install and will make a very visible improvement in the dash over the 25+-year-old lenses.

To save costs, these reproduction filter lenses do not have the upper and lower tabs. We made these filter lenses to fit better in the metal frames, which eliminated the need for the locking tabs.
Lenses comes with easy-to-follow installation directions.

NOTE - See Part #7503 or Part #7504 for the reproduction main lenses for both analog or digital dash. By purchasing this additional part, you would have all new lenses for your dash.

Great interior restoration items.

1987 Buick Turbo-T -
Reproduction TRUNK “3.8 SFI TURBO” EMBLEM

This reproduction “3.8 SFI TURBO” trunk emblem measures 9-7/8" x 5/8" and is different from the set that goes on the hood. The trunk emblem is all chrome and the hood emblems are chrome with a black edge.

Emblems are made of plastic with a self-adhesive backing. These are chrome-plated plastic emblems - all letters appear chrome silver with the chrome edging, which is correct for all the 1987 Turbo-T Regals.

PLACEMENT -

Our top photo shows the emblem with and our lower photo shows this emblem on my original paint 1987 Turbo-T.

Here are the specifications for placement of this 3.8 SFI trunk emblem. From the leading left edge of the trunk lid, come in 1-1/2". From the top edge of the chrome metal lip molding on the trunk lid, come up 1-1/2". The “BUICK” emblem on the passenger’s side is positioned at the same height but ends 2-3/4" inward from the outer trunk lid edge. In other words, it is not a match to the 3.8 SFI emblem.

NOTE - When purchasing this item, you may also want to consider buying the matching pair of “3.8 SFI TURBO” hood emblems, which have the black edge, Part #6556.

Another great exterior restoration item.

In other words, it’s not just the flat portion of the floor pan.

The end result is these pans give you enough material to do the job properly.

Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected].

1978-1987 Buick Regal (All Models) -
REPRODUCTION DRIVER’S & PASSENGER’S SIDE FLOOR PANS

These reproduction floor pans are made in the U.S.A. This version has been on the market for over 10 years.

It’s important to realize that other reproductions exist, and the quality and overall size can vary.

These are a perfect fit to the original floor. Unlike some other reproductions, these go up on the sides where the door sills go. In the back area, these pans go up towards the base cushion of the back seat. The driver’s front pan also goes up about 6"-7" and the passenger’s side goes up several inches. In other words, it’s not just the flat portion of the floor pan.

The end result is these pans give you enough material to do the job properly.

These are dropped shipped direct from our supplier. Shipping is a flat rate of $125 to most of the U.S.A. Because of the size, truck freight shipping must be to a business address. The shipping costs is the same whether it’s a single pan or both sides. So, before you order, check the entire interior floor pans to see what you need.

Unfortunately, we cannot ship pans to Canada.

You MUST call our office to order these pans. West coast orders, call for freight charges (215-766-1611.)

Floor pans are drop shipped to you from our mid-west supplier.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE - We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet.

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again.
