GLOVE BOX OWNER’S MANUAL HOLDERS CONTINUED -

In the 1990s, we had two different Owner’s Manual holders produced. Both were black vinyl. One was for the Grand Nationals and the other was specific for the T-Types with the catch phrase I came up with, “A BOOST of Buick Performance”. It’s been years since we last offered them. In my junkyard excursions I have found several other Buick Owner’s Manual holders that Buick used in the late 1980s and early 1990s. I have found these in the top-of-the-line Buick models.

PHOTO 1 - The top left Owner’s Manual is for the Buick Ultra and is very similar to the holders we showed last week. The top right shows a slightly larger Owner’s Manual holder. Unlike the one in the photo to the left, this one holds the manual in place by 6 rings making it a mini binder. It is for a 1989 Electric Park Avenue model. The bottom left Owner’s Manual is a hardbound vertical-style Buick binder that is embossed with the Buick tri-shield logo, the word Buick and the phrase “Premium American Motorcars”. The bottom right Owner’s Manual is one of our custom-made T-Type holders from our personal Turbo-T.

It’s a shame that Buick or ASC didn’t do a special Owner’s Manual holder for the Fortunate 547 GNX owners. I may be wrong, but I believe the GNX was the most expensive Buick model available in 1987 and definitely deserved a special owner’s manual holder.

MY FIRST CORVETTE -

My first Corvette was a 1961 with the 283 engine and 3-speed manual transmission. All during my last days as a senior in High School, that is all I could think about was how to raise enough money to buy a Corvette.

At the time I had a 1950 Ford sedan and a real nice 1956 Crown Victoria Ford. (I always had two cars in case one needed work). I faced two hurdles - number 1 was getting a quick sale for my Crown Victoria Ford and number 2 getting my Dad to co-sign the note on a Corvette.

Every Sunday on the way to Church we would pass this used car dealer on Board Street in Philadelphia. It always had on the entire front row with nothing but used Corvettes. The one I wanted was a 1961 model that was beige in color with a red interior. The price, if I recall was just under $2,000.

It was the summer of 1965. I was working a second shift at a plastics company running a mold machine. I had put in my Crown Victoria Ford a RCA record player in my Crown Victoria Ford. It hung from the dash on the passenger’s side and played 45 rpm records upside down. I worked a deal with a buddy for him to buy my 1956 Crown Victoria Ford for $500 minus the record player, since I wanted to reinstall it in the Corvette.

I was able to convince my Dad to co-sign for the Corvette. Life was good. A few months later my Dad would buy a used Cadillac from the same dealer. My sister eventually drove that Cadillac to school.

My joy was short lived as I had no college plans and the draft was looming over my head. That fall I enlisted in the Army and sadly I decided I would have to sell the Corvette before entering the service. I sold it to a local car dealer, Southampton Auto Sales, in Southampton, Pennsylvania. I even left the record player in the Corvette when I sold it.

I then went out and bought a 1953 Studebaker so my girlfriend (now my wife) could have a car to drive to school.

Fast forward to about five years ago. I ran into the owner of that little used car dealership at a nearby restaurant that we frequent. He overheard my name and remembered me. He told me an interesting story about my old Corvette.

He ran the used car lot for only about 5 or 6 years. At the time, he would run full-page ads of the cars he had for sale in the local newspaper. (Since meeting him, he has passed away).

It just so happened that he framed one of his full-page ads and it was the ad that actually listed my old 1961 Corvette for sale. It even mentioned in the description that it had a 45 rpm record player. The price he advertised my old Corvette for was $1,895.

I knew that even though the used car dealership was long gone, I remembered they had a body shop business only a few blocks away from the used car lot. The body shop is now run by his son. The other week I finally went over to the body shop and, lo and behold, on the office wall was an old framed newspaper ad from his father.

The last car listed under Sport Cars section was my 1961 Corvette with the 45 rpm record player. I explained to his son, who is also named John, that I had ran into his father several years ago and he told me that my old Corvette was on the one ad he actually framed. I was amazed that it was now hanging in his son’s body shop.

PHOTO 2 - The photo on the left shows the yellowed newspaper ad framed and hanging in John McShane Auto Body office. It was the only framed picture on the one wall. John was nice enough to remove it and make me a photocopy. The photo on the right shows the actual ad. My Corvette is the very last car listed in the bottom right corner. The ad to the left of my car lists a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible needing some work for just $99!

The ad for my old Corvette shown in the lower left reads, “1961 CORVETTE Convertible. This car is equiped with a 283 cu. in. engine and 3 speed trans. It has 4 new red line w/w tires, R & H, and a 45 RPM record payer. ONLY $1895.”

PHOTO 3 - The photo on the left shows my 1961 Corvette on our driveway in Huntingdon Valley, PA. The photo on the right shows my three younger sisters alongside my car. From left to right - Dawn, Diane, and Doreen.

It would have been nice if all of us were smart enough when we bought cars throughout years to record the VIN number before we sold them. That way you could possibly track your car down later on in life.

The technology available today would make it fairly easy to locate a car you owned in the past, if it was still on the road today. Possibly somewhere today my 1956 Crown Victoria Ford is being shown at car shows with a few extra holes under the dash from mounting that record player that nobody can explain and the same goes for the 1961 Corvette. I could tell the owner I know what the holes are from!

The Crown Victoria Ford I owned was black and white with matching cloth interior, in case you see one at a car show.

21st ANNUAL MOONLIGHT MEMORIES CAR SHOW -

The Moonlight Memories Car Show was this past Saturday night. They probably had between 550 and 600 cars at this annual event.

For several years I was a judge at this event. Judging at car shows is one of those great non-paying jobs.

Among all these cars I only spotted one T-Type and one Grand National. I also saw one regular 1981-1982-style Regal. I must have seen at least a dozen or more 1984-1988 Monte Carlos and several Oldsmobile Cutlasses. It’s neat to see some of the clever signs and displays owners put with their cars.

PHOTO 4 - There was a 1966 Corvette at the show that had an interesting story, which relates to my earlier story. They actually tracked down their original 1966 Corvette and restored it. It had passed through 7 owners in between their ownership. This photo on the left shows their sign and tells the story. The sign says,
“OUR “66” VETTE
We bought it first when it was new
To have some fun and drag it too
Convinced those days were finally through
We sold it in “69” for something new
Memories faded but would not pass
In “83” it’s back at last
Seven other owners it did know
But wasn’t always fit to show
Now if this story ends our way
This Vette is back with us to stay

The photo on the right shows a pristine 1953 Cadillac coupe also at this show. The owner had spread out on the back seat package a display of some of the various products that you could buy in 1953 - Candy Cigarettes, Good & Plenty, Necco, Candy Buttons, Sugar Babies, Bit-O-Honey, and Fizzies instant Sparklin Drink Tabs, to name a few.

THOUGHTS TO PONDER -

You never hear about a funeral home going out of business for lack of customers.

No radiator hose ever fails on a cool day.

It would be less painful to forget where you parked your car than it is to forget your wife’s birthday.

SPECIAL RUN OF CORRECT FITTING 1984-1985 TURBO REGAL PLUG WIRES -

We just had a special run made of the correct length 1984-1985 Turbo Regal grey spark plug wires.

We used to sell these years ago, but stopped due to lack of demand. We just had 10 sets made. If you want a set, you must call our office to place your order. The price is $49.95 plus $8 shipping. We only have ten sets available.

I don’t believe any other source has these available in the proper lengths. These are not on our website. You must call our office to order – 215-766-1611 x 0 - specify 1984-1985 Turbo Regal Custom-Cut High-Performance Plug Wires.

NATIONAL BACK ORDER -

The Russell stainless braided brake hoses, Part #7218, are now in stock and our back orders have been filled.

This is one of the easiest improvements you can make to the brake system, especially since the stock hoses to the front brake calipers are now 25 years and older. Stainless does not swell. When you eliminate the swelling, the end result is a quicker pressure delivered to the front brake calipers. No matter what brake conversion you have in your car, this is one inexpensive upgrade that is well worth the price!

VEHICLES FOR SALE -

From time to time, whenever we spot an unusual or an exceptional car or truck for sale, or one we have for sale, we will put a blurb in our weekly Inner Circle. Also any cars that our customers have for sale will be featured here and you can see their car with photos on our website as well. In this category we will run the descriptions for two to three weeks and, if there is no interest in that particular vehicle, it will be deleted the following week. Any new vehicles that we add will appear first, so the oldest listing would be at the end of this section. If any of these vehicles perk your interest, email me personally - [email protected] - for more information and photos.

FOR SALE - 1987 BUICK TURBO REGAL LIMITED - FOR SALE

Fully documented original North Carolina car with ultra rare option combination of Heavy Pad Landau roof, T-Tops, coach lamps, cornering lights, 6-way power driver’s sear, reclining passenger seat, and factory trunk kit, to name a few. The only aftermarket upgrades to the car are: Racetronix high-volume fuel pump and new wiring on factory hanger, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, 160 degree thermostat, boost control valve, 3.5 inch mild steel down pipe, Hooker 2.5 inch exhaust (Sounds great), cold air intake with K&N filter, pillar mounted boost gauge, oil and temp gauges in overhead. FOR SALE - 1987 Buick Grand National - Same local owner for the last 13 years. Matter of fact, the owner is one of our M&M contest winners. The Grand National is well optioned with T-Tops, power windows, power locks, power seat, posi rear, power trunk release, cruise, and tilt. The owner has been a customer of ours since he got the car. He has done all the braces, vacuum brakes conversion, translater, and adjustable fuel regulator. Pete Serio adjusted the windows years ago as well. These are the main improvements that have been done. 58,000 miles. Prior to his ownership, the car was painted. He did install new front fillers several years ago, painted by our son Darrell Kirban. The exterior looks very nice, but some bubbling in the paint can be seen on the hood and roof area. No molding down the sides. He also bought a redone steering wheel from us about 2 weeks ago. Under the hood is original, meaning it has not been cleaned or touched. The interior needs some attention; the driver’s seat shows some wear and the door panels have worn look to them. Car runs out 100%. The owner is looking for $13,900. Car is located about 25 minutes south of our office. For more info and photos, you can email me - [email protected]

FOR SALE - 2009 OPEN UTILITY TRAILER - This is a 5 by 8 open utility trailer that has a railing around the outside that is about one foot up from the wooden floor surface. A matching height tailgate is on the back. The floor has been reinforced underneath as I used it to take Turbo Regal drive trains down to Richards place in North Carolina. It has a front mounted spare, which is included. It will need tires due to heat cracks. Price is $695 NEW LOWER PRICE. This is owned by our company and is in Kintnersville, PA.

FOR SALE - GNX #314 - The car is a two owner with the current owner having owned it for 16 years. It has been garaged and covered. Mileage is 10,542. Owner does have the jacket, but no book. Car is 100% stock runs and drives. The power antenna does not work and the fillers need to be replaced as they are showing cracks. Tires have been replaced. Paint and body is mint and car still retains the new car smell. I know the owner as I bought 4 turbo cars from him and his son over 10 years ago. I did see the GNX years ago. He has hardly used it as the mileage indicates. The price tag is $55,000. For more info and photos, email me direct - [email protected] The GNX is located in Maryland. SALE PENDING

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
VICTOR REINZ VALVE COVER GASKETS (2) SET

Because of the age of these cars and the engine heat, the original valve cover gaskets are probably allowing oil to seep out of the valve covers in the back corners. The nuts that secure them can also become lose over time.

The tabs on the edges of these Victor Reinz valve cover gaskets are designed to stay in place on the valve covers, which gives these a good seal. The material is the best material to correct this problem.

These are the best fitting valve cover gaskets that Richard Clark has found, and he uses them in his shop. These fit better and there is no need to retighten them.

Gasket are sold as a pair of two gaskets.

Reproduction SHIFTER HANDLE BILLET ALUMINUM PARTS (6) KIT

These are the 6 internal parts for the factory shifter handle.

The factory parts are plastic and can break, or the chrome-plating can peel off the exterior bezels of the original console shifter handle. These reproduction parts are made in billet aluminum so they will not break. You only need to reuse your two external black plastic end buttons.

You can polish the 3 exterior bezels that come in this kit, so it would look factory.

BRAKE CONVERSION KITS -

1985-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
CONVERSION VACUUM BRAKE BOOSTER KIT with VACUUM BRAKE PEDAL

This is another option to consider if you have a fairly stock 1985-1987 Buick Turbo Regal and want to switch from your original powermaster brake system. This kit comes complete with everything you need as shown. This unit comes with a REBUILT Cardone brake booster and a BRAND new master cylinder. The booster has a 9" diameter. The master cylinder and vacuum booster in this kit is exactly what GM used in 1986-1987 on a non-Turbo Regal application.

There are no clearance issues with this unit and the stock remote power steering reservoir. It also comes with our new vacuum block with gasket and hardware. It has the vacuum port similar to what GM used on the 1989 Turbo Trans Am. We also include 2 feet of vacuum hose and our new reproduction gasket to firewall.

The kit also includes a used correct Buick Regal vacuum brake pedal assembly. This pedal has the correct size pin and in the correct location so you can hook up the rod from the vacuum booster with no interference. You would get a Letter of Credit for $25 if you send us your powermaster brake pedal that you have removed and replaced with our vacuum pedal assembly.

Depending on our current core supply, we may be interested in your original powermaster brake unit for a Letter of Credit.

This booster uses the same factory holes in the firewall as the powermaster. The rod on this brake booster will only work with the vacuum pedal assembly that comes with this kit.

Since nothing gets cut or drilled related to the original powermaster, the original powermaster can be re-used should you want to convert back to the factory set up at a later date.

We highly recommend installation be done by a qualified mechanic, since you have to properly bleed the brakes and making sure the system is operating properly under all conditions.

Remember, your best option is always to stay with the factory GM powermaster brake system. This unit is only to be used with a stock or a fairly stock Turbo Regal. A modified engine or one with a performance cam would cause vacuum levels to be greatly reduced, which would could cause braking problems. One possible solution would be to purchase from Summit or Jegs an additional vacuum canister to retain proper vacuum levels.

When purchasing this part you may also want to purchase Part #7218 Stainless Braided Brake Hoses as these will improve the stopping ability.

For our rebuilt powermaster brake unit, See our Part # 7021 - 1985-1987 Turbo Regal - Rebuilt Powermaster Brake Unit.

However, if you have a STOCK engine, there is adequate vacuum to switch over to a vacuum brake system. We have another option: Our Part #7044 - Brand New Complete Vacuum Brake Booster Kit. This kit retains the original brake pedal because the booster has a different rod. Also both the master cylinder and brake booster are brand new. This is the major difference.

NOTE - A vacuum brake system is NOT recommended for a Turbo Regal with a modified engine or one with a performance cam because vacuum levels are greatly reduced, which could cause braking problems.

NOTE - Be sure to check out the other options we offer for converting the Turbo Regal brake system - Part #7044 Brand New Complete Vacuum Brake Booster Kit that works off the existing turbo brake pedal, Part #7617 Hydro-Boost Conversion Kit, or #7618 HYDRATECH Hydro-Boost System conversion.

NOTE - If you send us your original powermaster brake pedal, you will receive a Letter of Credit for $25. Depending on our current core supply, we may be interested in your original powermaster brake unit for a Letter of Credit.

NOTE - We recommend installation be done by a qualified auto mechanic.

ALWAYS LOOKING FOR IDEAS -

If you have any product ideas that would fit our Turbo Buick market that you would like to see available, email me direct - [email protected]

ALWAYS IN A BUYING POSITION WORKS -

Got any Turbo Buick parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - [email protected]. Also, we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

For our area we are enjoying a rather mild summer compared to last summer’s heat waves.
