ADJUSTABLE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATORS -

The Billet Aluminum adjustable fuel pressure regulator, Part #6547 is probably the most widely used regulators on the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals. We have successfully marketed various versions of it for over 15 years.

What many of you may not realize is we also offer another version that can handle up to 1,000 horsepower and is designed for the stand-alone fuel rails. Our supplier has recently made some improvements on this race version. It now has a bracket installed on the back, so you can attach it to the firewall or inner fender. It also has a 1/8” pipe thread in the front for a fuel gauge or sender. This race version adjustable fuel regulator has been run successfully on a twin turbo 1,000 hp Dodge Viper.

PHOTO 1 - Shows the new Race Version Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator, our part #5071. This one will work on Turbo Regals that are set up for serious performance with a stand-alone fuel rail.

Back when the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals were fairly new, several methods to increase fuel delivery were available. One cheap method was to simply crush the top half of the stock fuel pressure regulator. The downside with that modification was that once it was crushed, it stayed crushed. Crushed too much and it could leak!

Another inexpensive method was to insert a small threaded insert in the vacuum inlet on the stock fuel regulator. There were some problems with this format… it sometimes would not hold the desired pressure and it could easily be stripped making it useless. We sold this format for a number of years in the early and mid-1990s.

Another method was to install a 237 Bosch fuel regulator. The “237,” as it was known, was the last three digits of the part number of another fuel regulator that delivered more fuel. The stock fuel pressure regulator was a 233. Here again, you had no method of making any adjustments.

The first truly easy to adjust fuel regulator was based on cutting off the top half of the factory regulator and machining a new top half and changing the internals. Our supplier kept the vacuum line on the top putting the adjustment screw next to it on the top. Some of the others companies at the time put the vacuum pick up on the side, which meant you had to bend the vacuum line to go in the side of the adjustable fuel regulator. This design came out around 1996-1997 time frame. At the time our supplier was making two versions of this for our Mustang companies. It wasn’t long before it became the one of the most recognized regulators in the Mustang world and also one of the ones that had the fewest problems.

Another car line we had adjustable fuel regulators made for was Porsche. We had our supplier make 4 different Porsche adjustable fuel regulators, which covered virtually every Porsche model from 1984 thru 1995 - Mostly the 928, 944, 968 models.

Around 1998-1999 we were buying so many Bosch fuel regulators in bulk we decided to have our supplier make the entire fuel pressure regulator for the two popular Mustang ones and, of course, the 1984-1987 Turbo Regal one that we market today.

PHOTO 2 - The top photo shows two of the early basic designs for part #6547 that our supplier made for us in the mid 1990s. The first one had the straight sides and the later one he changed the shape slightly. He never made many of the later ones because it was soon after that he went with the all new construction adjustable fuel regulator, which we still sell today. Both images are missing the vacuum fitting and the adjustment fitting that normally would be screwed into the top. The photo on the lower left shows the correct billet aluminum adjustable fuel pressure regulator, part #6547. The photo on the lower right shows the current version on our personal Turbo-T. This design is one most of you are very familiar with today.

THE SILVER STATE CLASSIC CHALLENGE -

The Silver State Classic Challenge is run every year on a 90-mile stretch of road in Nevada. The road is closed to the public for this event. They run various classes. One class is to run as fast as you can over the entire 90-mile course. This class requires you to have race car caliper safety equipment, roll cage, fuel cell, a helmet, race-quality tires, not to mention a power plant capable of obtaining 200 mph and beyond. I imagine you have to sign some sort of release form as well!

Rookie drivers get to participate the day before so they are better prepared. It is not a race, but rather a high-speed-time-distance rally with a single checkpoint 90 miles down the road. People come from all over the world for the event. The various events have a woman’s class also.

At the 1999 event Susan Kirby drove her race-prepped street-driven 1988 Porsche 928 S4 model to the event. It would be the first time she would enter the Silver State Classic as a driver. The car was her daily driver. Prior to this her car was dynoed at 6,000 rpm putting out 453 hp at the rear wheels and 480 ft lbs of torque at 3,800 rpms. The car is a 5-speed with the stock rear end ratio. The fuel delivery in her car was handled by our Porsche adjustable fuel pressure regulator!

In 1999 she became the fastest woman at that time to cover that 90-mile stretch of road. Her average speed over the 90-mile run was 167.6750 mph. This was her average speed! She set a new world’s record for a woman. Plus she was fast enough to be the 5th best among all the men. That year over 200 participated in the various classes. The shop that tuned her car told me this story years ago, just after the race.

So, in quick review, our adjustable fuel regulators are up to any task. It’s ironic that we have never owned a Porsche but simply had four versions made and had a tuner try them before we marketed them. The one tuner was very skeptical at first, since my knowledge of Porsches was very limited. All I knew was years ago I got beaten badly by a Porsche at a light with a Ram Air Firebird we had at the time.

COMING SOON -

We have two projects currently in the works. Next week we should have all the info on the upgraded dual fan set up, complete with the special plug-and-play harness that you need to make it work properly with no issues. This would be for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals as a nice upgrade over the stock single electric fan. You will also be able to purchase the plug-and-play harness by itself.

My local friend is working on the sunshade project. This would be an insert for all 1984-1987 Turbo Regals with the T-Tops option. An inexpensive way to keep the sun from fading the interior and making it easier for the air conditioning to cool the interior.

They are the next two items on the agenda.

T-TYPE CENTER CAPS -

Most of you are aware of the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal T-Type plastic black center caps that Buick used on the factory T-wheels, as they are referred to. Prior to this Buick had an earlier T-style wheel that was a 14 inch wheel and came on the 1983 Regal T-Type. This wheel is seldom seen today since production was very limited in 1983. That wheel took a similar plastic center cap. Actually, the center caps are almost the same except the 1983 was plastic chrome and the Buick Tri-Shield medallion in the center was in the traditional red/white/blue instead of the silver grey tri-shield that Buick used on the 1986-1987 T-wheels.
Buick also used the black plastic T centers on the 1984-1985 wheels that were used on the Grand Nationals.

Today, the black T-Type center caps for the wheels have been reproduced. However, if you have an original cap and look inside it, you can see that it appears to have been chrome at one time. Some people think that Buick simply redid a batch of the chrome ones for the 1984-1985 Grand Nationals.

Just by making few subtle changes, Buick basically has used the same center cap from 1983 thru 1987. It doesn’t matter what color the medallion is or the color of the actual cap, money was saved by using the same molds. With limited production during those years and the end of the rear wheel drive platform, it was a cost saving factor for Buick. If you look at enough Buick models for any given year you can see how some of the same parts can be found in several models. Sometimes they are exactly the same and sometimes there are minor differences.

PHOTO 3 - The photo on the left shows the all chrome 1983 Buick T-Type center cap alongside the 1986-1987 style T-Type center cap. The photo on the right shows looking inside both caps. It may not be very visible but the inside of the black cap has a chrome look to it.

1978-1979 BUICK LESABRE SPORTS COUPE -

One of the rarest Buick models in 1978 and 1979 would probably be the LeSabre Sports Coupe, which was turbo powered like the Regal Sports Coupe.

There is a salvage yard local to me that is owned by a longtime friend of mine. It’s not a You Pull It Yard, but he lets me go back in his yard and get anything I want. In the one corner of the yard, among some very heavy brush, were a few cars you could hardly see. One that I could make out was a 1978 or 1979 LeSabre Sports Coupe. I asked him if when he had time he could remove it from its 15-20-year resting place so I could see it. A few weeks later he called me back as he got it out of the bushes. I could not tell what year exactly this LeSabre was, since both years are almost the same in appearance. Also my knowledge of this model is quite limited.

PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows the car sitting intact in his parking lot. The top right shows the engine compartment. Note the red air cleaner duct assembly and the primitive electronics control box mounted on the radiator shroud. The bottom left shows the driver’s door torn apart as a tree was growing between the door skin and the door panel. The bottom right shows the diecast emblem on the passenger’s side front fender. All the factory chrome steel wheels were still intact and even three of the center caps were still on the wheels.

According to various road tests when the car was new, the V8 models were slightly quicker off the line but once the turbo kicked in, the Turbo V6 was quicker. I think it would be a perfect candidate for Craigs List stating, “Barn Find needs a little TLC!”

SPECIAL RUN OF CORRECT FITTING 1984-1985 TURBO REGAL PLUG WIRES -

We just had a special run made of the correct length 1984-1985 Turbo Regal grey spark plug wires.

We used to sell these years ago, but stopped due to lack of demand. We just had 10 sets made. If you want a set, you must call our office to place your order. The price is $49.95 plus $8 shipping. We only have ten sets available.

I don’t believe any other source has these available in the proper lengths. These are not on our website. You must call our office to order - 215-766-1611 x 0 - specify 1984-1985 Turbo Regal Custom-Cut High-Performance Plug Wires.

RUSSELL STAINLESS BRAIDED BRAKE HOSES -

The Russell stainless braided brake hoses, Part #7218, are now in stock This is one of the easiest improvements you can make to the brake system, especially since the stock hoses to the front brake calipers are now 25 years and older. Stainless does not swell. When you eliminate the swelling, the end result is a quicker pressure delivered to the front brake calipers. No matter what brake conversion you have in your car, this is one inexpensive upgrade that is well worth the price!

FOR SALE - 1987 Buick Grand National - Same local owner for the last 13 years. Matter of fact, the owner is one of our M&M contest winners. The Grand National is well optioned with T-Tops, power windows, power locks, power seat, posi rear, power trunk release, cruise, and tilt. The owner has been a customer of ours since he got the car. He has done all the braces, vacuum brakes conversion, translater, and adjustable fuel regulator. Pete Serio adjusted the windows years ago as well. These are the main improvements that have been done. 58,000 miles. Prior to his ownership, the car was painted. He did install new front fillers several years ago, painted by our son Darrell Kirban. The exterior looks very nice, but some bubbling in the paint can be seen on the hood and roof area. No molding down the sides. He also bought a redone steering wheel from us about 2 weeks ago. Under the hood is original, meaning it has not been cleaned or touched. The interior needs some attention; the driver’s seat shows some wear and the door panels have worn look to them. Car runs out 100%. The owner is looking for $13,900. Car is located about 25 minutes south of our office. For more info and photos, you can email me - [email protected]

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
VICTOR REINZ VALVE COVER GASKETS (2) SET

Because of the age of these cars and the engine heat, the original valve cover gaskets are probably allowing oil to seep out of the valve covers in the back corners. The nuts that secure them can also become lose over time.

The tabs on the edges of these Victor Reinz valve cover gaskets are designed to stay in place on the valve covers, which gives these a good seal. The material is the best material to correct this problem.

These are the best fitting valve cover gaskets that Richard Clark has found, and he uses them in his shop. These fit better and there is no need to retighten them.

Gasket are sold as a pair of two gaskets.

Reproduction SHIFTER HANDLE BILLET ALUMINUM PARTS (6) KIT

These are the 6 internal parts for the factory shifter handle.

The factory parts are plastic and can break, or the chrome-plating can peel off the exterior bezels of the original console shifter handle. These reproduction parts are made in billet aluminum so they will not break. You only need to reuse your two external black plastic end buttons.

You can polish the 3 exterior bezels that come in this kit, so it would look factory.

BRAKE CONVERSION KITS -

1985-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
CONVERSION VACUUM BRAKE BOOSTER KIT with VACUUM BRAKE PEDAL

This is another option to consider if you have a fairly stock 1985-1987 Buick Turbo Regal and want to switch from your original powermaster brake system. This kit comes complete with everything you need as shown. This unit comes with a REBUILT Cardone brake booster and a BRAND new master cylinder. The booster has a 9" diameter. The master cylinder and vacuum booster in this kit is exactly what GM used in 1986-1987 on a non-Turbo Regal application.

There are no clearance issues with this unit and the stock remote power steering reservoir. It also comes with our new vacuum block with gasket and hardware. It has the vacuum port similar to what GM used on the 1989 Turbo Trans Am. We also include 2 feet of vacuum hose and our new reproduction gasket to firewall.

The kit also includes a used correct Buick Regal vacuum brake pedal assembly. This pedal has the correct size pin and in the correct location so you can hook up the rod from the vacuum booster with no interference. You would get a Letter of Credit for $25 if you send us your powermaster brake pedal that you have removed and replaced with our vacuum pedal assembly.

Depending on our current core supply, we may be interested in your original powermaster brake unit for a Letter of Credit.

This booster uses the same factory holes in the firewall as the powermaster. The rod on this brake booster will only work with the vacuum pedal assembly that comes with this kit.

Since nothing gets cut or drilled related to the original powermaster, the original powermaster can be re-used should you want to convert back to the factory set up at a later date.

We highly recommend installation be done by a qualified mechanic, since you have to properly bleed the brakes and making sure the system is operating properly under all conditions.

Remember, your best option is always to stay with the factory GM powermaster brake system. This unit is only to be used with a stock or a fairly stock Turbo Regal. A modified engine or one with a performance cam would cause vacuum levels to be greatly reduced, which would could cause braking problems. One possible solution would be to purchase from Summit or Jegs an additional vacuum canister to retain proper vacuum levels.

When purchasing this part you may also want to purchase Part #7218 Stainless Braided Brake Hoses as these will improve the stopping ability.

For our rebuilt powermaster brake unit, See our Part # 7021 - 1985-1987 Turbo Regal - Rebuilt Powermaster Brake Unit.

However, if you have a STOCK engine, there is adequate vacuum to switch over to a vacuum brake system. We have another option: Our Part #7044 - Brand New Complete Vacuum Brake Booster Kit. This kit retains the original brake pedal because the booster has a different rod. Also both the master cylinder and brake booster are brand new. This is the major difference.

NOTE - A vacuum brake system is NOT recommended for a Turbo Regal with a modified engine or one with a performance cam because vacuum levels are greatly reduced, which could cause braking problems.

NOTE - Be sure to check out the other options we offer for converting the Turbo Regal brake system - Part #7044 Brand New Complete Vacuum Brake Booster Kit that works off the existing turbo brake pedal, Part #7617 Hydro-Boost Conversion Kit, or #7618 HYDRATECH Hydro-Boost System conversion.

NOTE - If you send us your original powermaster brake pedal, you will receive a Letter of Credit for $25. Depending on our current core supply, we may be interested in your original powermaster brake unit for a Letter of Credit.

NOTE - We recommend installation be done by a qualified auto mechanic.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

Hoping you don’t own a GM vehicle in the big list of recent recalls.
