Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 10-08-2014

REPORT FROM FALL CARLISLE -

I was at Fall Carlisle last Thursday just for one day. As I reported earlier this was the 40th anniversary of Carlisle which started in 1974. I don’t recall I attended the event the first year, but I am sure I was there beginning in the late 1970s. At one time you could actually park in the infield as a spectator. This event has over 8,000 vendors and they expected over 100,000 spectators during the event.

I can’t say I walked down every aisle Thursday, but I walked enough to be very tired by the end of the day.

Like previous Carlisle events, finding any used or new Turbo Regal parts is like finding a needle in a haystack. I did see two Grand Nationals for sale. Only one had a price on it. I spotted maybe 5 or 6 Monte Carlo SS models for sale.

PHOTO 1 - The photo on the left shows the one new Turbo Regal item I saw - a brand new 1986-1987 Turbo Regal hood pad. It was the service replacement 8-hole version and had a $1,000 price tag. The photo on the right shows an original wooden pay phone booth for sale, complete with pay phone. The only thing missing was Clark Kent!

PHOTO 2 - The photo on the left shows a very rough 1967 GTO convertible for sale. The photo on the right shows the engine compartment. This seller priced this car at $12,000 and stated it had no title!

PHOTO 3 - The photo on the left shows an extremely mint low-mileage Monte Carlo SS for sale. It had less than 5,000 original miles. Original Goodyear GT tires with the correct valve stem caps and outstanding example with a price tag of just under $20,000. The photo on the right brought back memories to me. It shows a reproduction fiberglass GTO tri-power ram air pan. Unfortunately the seller was not there, as I wanted to possibly buy it if the price was right. It was a part we made for the GTO market way back in the mid-1980s. Since then it has been reproduced in stamped steel. Back in the day, those original tri-power pans would fetch $800 or more. I know; we sold several years ago.

PHOTO 4 - The photo on the left shows one of the 1987 Grand Nationals that was for sale. It had a price tag of $18,500. The photo on the right shows the engine compartment. As you can see, under the hood needs some attention to bring it back to its original condition. Not visible was the driver’s side, which simply had a plastic screw-in cap on the valve cover instead of the correct oil fill tube.

OUR FALL OCTOBERFEST OPEN HOUSE

Our luck of picture perfect weather ran out this past Saturday. The weather forecast was for constant rain showers lasting at least through early afternoon. As any group that plans a car show or outside event know, you are at the mercy of the weather. It definitely has an effect on the number of people that will attend.

My initial plan was to drive our Turbo-T to our shop that morning, remove the battery, then install a completely dead battery in the car to demonstrate the multi-function jump starter kit.

I went in the garage Saturday morning, unhooked the battery tender, turned the key and on, and all I heard was a few clicks! My 6-year Warranty AC Delco battery picked that morning to fail!

Luckily I had brought the multi-function jump starter kit home the night before! So, I hooked up the multi-function jumper kit and the car started right up.

I realized I would be able to demonstrate how well it worked on a partially dead battery, and then I could also conduct a second test with a completely dead battery. This was not my original plan but I figured it would be even more impressive to do it that way! I checked my records and we bought the white Turbo-T in the spring of 2006, so the 6-year Warranty AC Delco battery was actually just over 8 years old!

Although the weather was not in our favor, we still had about 45-50 people come out. We had at least four groups of customers that came for the very first time. Many of them got to take home extra left overs since Russ and Nancy had ordered the food ahead of time and based it on 150 to 200 meals.

Special thanks for Russ and Nancy for buying, preparing, setting up and serving all the great food. With the rain, it was a challenge this year. Fortunately they were able to set up inside and serve. Thanks to their help - Don Catanese, and Kay and Jeremy Zipin (they always are a huge help setting up and serving), and Alex and Amber Gonzalez. We really appreciate all the work involved to make each Open House a success.

The no reserve auction was a hit as usual.

Everyone was impressed with the demonstration we did showing the power of this little 9-ounce battery pack, especially after seeing it crank our Turbo-T and start it up. It even did it with using a completely dead battery. We took many orders for the multi-function jump starter kit and several customers want to become dealers.

Bruce Shaw gave a very informative seminar on collector car fraud and how clever some sellers are at some of the collector car auctions. Terry Shaw was also there and answered many questions about car appraisals and insurance claims. Richard Clark wasn’t able to make the trip, although he had planned to come.

Special thanks to our crew: Pete, Christina, John, Carrie and Devyn... To John Follweiler for all the sodas and ice tea… To Jason Maxfield for his help coming again from Canada.

And thanks to all the attendees that spent their Saturday with us. It gives the Buick community an opportunity to stay in touch with other Buick owners.

Our apologies if we’ve left anyone out of our acknowledgements.

GOOD NEWS -

Because of an over abundance of powermaster cores, we can reduce the core charge price to $75 when you purchase our rebuilt powermaster unit, our part #7021. This is effective immediately.

GS NATIONALS BREAKING NEWS -

We will have Scanmasters, Powerloggers, and Translaters available at our vendor spot at the GS Nationals. Supplies are limited, so be sure to see us Thursday or Friday if you want one. Or call our office to reserve any of these items you want to pick up at the Nationals - 215-766-1611.

Our plan is to take a completely dead battery and put it in a Turbo Regal at our vendor spot at the GS Nationals to demonstrate the new multi-function jumper unit.

You will be able to see first hand what this 9-ounce battery pack can do.

We may not have any on hand to sell, but will take your order as several shipments are in route to us.

UPDATE ON THE NEW MULTI-FUNCTION JUMP STARTER -

We hope to have our next shipment in at the end of this week. If this shipment does come in as scheduled, we have enough to fill all the current orders that have been placed prior to today 10-8-2014.

We have our next order placed, but I’m not sure if it will arrive before we have to leave for the GS Nationals.

If you go on any of the various websites or ebay, you will see other multi-function jump starters that share the same red and black casing as the one we sell. I had the choice of several colors for the housing when I looked into buying them. I felt the red and black was the best color combination.

However, when you look over the specifications with many of the other units, they do NOT have the same cranking and peak amps that ours offers.

Still others may state they can only handle a 4-litre gas engine or a 3-litre diesel engine. Ours will handle any 12-volt gas or diesel vehicle. Our cranking is 250 amps and 500 peak amps.

Some may not come with both a wall charger and car charger.

Others may offer more options to charge other devices (which is nice), but the kit we offer will handle almost all the popular phones plus it has two USB ports. You can actually charge several phones at once. Example, I can charge my flip phone in the one lead and my wife (who has a Samsung phone) can plug her phone in the lead for her phone. One of the other leads does work on the iPhones.

It’s just like the eprom in your Buick - one major supplier made the carrier for the chip and several companies put their parts in the carrier. According to our supplier, we are the only source located in the U.S.A. that is marketing the battery pack that they make.

Again, until we catch up with demand you can simply call our office or email [email protected] with your order and phone number.

We would contact you either by email or phone to obtain your credit card info when we have units in stock and ready to ship.

It’s not often that a product comes a long that outsells our ability to get ample stock on hand.

These make excellent Christmas, holiday and birthday gifts. We have already had several customers buy them for that reason.

Adding to the demand, we are hearing from several customers that want to buy more than one, and also want to sell them in their area as well.

STOCK HEADER REPLACEMENT UPDATE -

Unfortunately, we don’t expect to have any Stock Replacement Driver’s Side and Passenger’s Side Complete 409 Stainless Steel Headers Kits, part #7274, available until mid-October, according to TA Performance.

If you want a set, it’s best to call our office (215-766-1611) and get on the list because of the delays with this run. We expect to sell out quickly after filling existing orders. We would not charge your credit card until we know they are being shipped.

We do have 1 of the Stock Replacement Driver’s Side 409 Stainless Steel Header Kit in stock, our part #7273.

SPECIAL RUN OF CORRECT FITTING 1984-1985 TURBO REGAL PLUG WIRES -

We had a special run made of the correct length 1984-1985 Turbo Regal grey spark plug wires.

We used to sell these years ago, but stopped due to lack of demand. We had 10 sets made. If you want a set, you must call our office to place your order. The price is $49.95 plus $8 shipping. We only have ten sets available.

I don’t believe any other source has these available in the proper lengths. These are not on our website. You must call our office to order - 215-766-1611 x 0 - specify 1984-1985 Turbo Regal Custom-Cut High-Performance Plug Wires.

UPDATE BARRET-JACKSON LAS VEGAS AUCTION -

According to customer Stephen David, he says a 1986 LeSabre Grand National (Lot #328) went for $25,000. As strange as it sounds, it out bid a 1987 Grand National that had the optional astro roof (Lot #201), which was bid to $22,500.

However, I don’t know the condition of either car. At those prices, both must have been very nice. I’m surprised, like many of you, that the LeSabre Grand National would fetch $25,000.

These cars, although extremely comfortable, are front-wheel drive with a regular 3,8 engine. The Grand National option was merely a badging cosmetic upgrade. Depending on whose numbers you believe, reportedly 112 or 117 where produced.
Some of you may recall we actually owned two of them. We completely restored the first one and had our son repaint it. I had Pete Serio install the later 1989 LeSabre T-Type gauge cluster in the dash. When we sold it, we got $10,000 for it years ago.

The other car needed work.

MECUM AUCTION CHICAGO -

Several readers have brought to my attention that a GNX with a mere 45 actual miles will be going through the Chicago Mecum Auction on Saturday, October 11th, 2014.

If the GNX has had excellent storage since new, this example with a mere 45 miles may hit the triple digits. According to several sources another GNX will be at this auction as well. I believe one or two Grand Nationals will also go up for auction too.

VEHICLES FOR SALE -

From time to time, whenever we spot an unusual or an exceptional car or truck for sale, or one we have for sale, we will put a blurb in our weekly Inner Circle. Also any cars that our customers have for sale will be featured here and you can see their car with photos on our website as well. In this category we will run the descriptions for two to three weeks and, if there is no interest in that particular vehicle, it will be deleted the following week. Any new vehicles that we add will appear first, so the oldest listing would be at the end of this section. If any of these vehicles perk your interest, email me personally - [email protected] - for more information and photos.

CUSTOM TRUNK KIT PRICE CHANGES -

We just were notified that the cost of the GREY trunk material has increased. This affects our part numbers #7280, #7281, #7282, #7283, #7284, #7285, #7286 and #7287.

Effective immediately, the custom embroidered 8-piece and 11-piece GREY trunk kits have increased in price by $35 each.

The price for the custom embroidered 8-piece and 11-piece BLACK trunk kits remains the same.

The replacement factory-style 9-piece grey trunk kit, #6510 remains unchanged, since they come from another supplier.

Our supplier does not sell enough in grey to buy a huge roll for stock. This is the reason for the price increase. At this point, the black embroidered kits outsell the grey ones.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

MULTI-FUNCTION JUMP STARTER - MODEL T6
Jump Starting / Digital Products / LED Lighting

Introducing one of the greatest products that makes jump starting any 12-volt gas or diesel powered vehicle easy to do. It is made by one of the leading battery manufacturers. Unit will also jump start any 12-volt motorcycle, boat, ATV or tractor.

The secret is in a very compact power supply module that is basically the size of a smart phone. It measures 6-1/2" x 3" x 1" thick and weighs a mere 9 ounces. It packs enough wallop to start any 12-volt gas or diesel powered vehicle, can charge a variety of digital devices, and also has built-in LED lighting.

I was very skeptical at first. So, I put it to the supreme jump starting test, using a car that was parked in a junkyard in 2008 (according to the Inspection Sticker) and not touched in 6 years. It cranked the engine like I had put a new battery in it! I then tested it on another car that was parked since 2010 and again it was like I parked the car the day before!

It comes with 4 other adapters that plug into a USB port on the side of the battery pack, which will charge a wide variety of electronic devices (phone, laptop, etc.) These adapters are formatted for four different outlets used on various digital products. This module or battery pack actually has two USB ports. All four adapters are fused into one lead, making it very compact and less likely that you would ever lose any of the four adapters. You can also plug your own electronic device cord into the USB port.

It also has a LED light with three settings: standard, flashing, and SOS. The LED light can stay on continuously for 48 hours if the unit is fully charged.

The power supply module (battery) can be fully charged in 4 hours either with the supplied wall outlet plug or supplied cigarette lighter adapter.

It has a built-in circuit protection, fuse protection, and an anti-reverse battery jumper plug.

The unit can stay fully charged if not used for 6 to 10 months!

You can jump start 20-30 vehicles on a single charge.

It has a visible 5-light bar indicator so you know how much "juice" is available. It goes into a sleep mode when not in use.

Each unit is fully tested before it is shipped to us. Each one is also partially charged, ready to be used.

In case of a power outage, this is the perfect way to charge your electronic devices.

Ideal for any biker, camper, automotive repair shop, or car dealership.

The convenience of having a pocket-size jumper module that weighs 9 ounces is better than lugging a 15-28 lb battery jumper box when you need to jump a vehicle.

NOTE - If you want a spare set of jumper cables, you can purchase it separately, our part #7631.

This makes a great gift idea for anyone who may store cars in a garage or for your mechanic.

It would be the perfect “Thank You” gift for car dealerships for when a customer buys a car.

Some of the other brands can run as much as $175 or more and may not offer all the features or the same specifications as this one. In some cases, you are paying for the private label.

KIT INCLUDES -
Power Supply Module (battery)
Pair of Jumper Cables
4-Way Adapter with USB Connector
Cigarette Lighter Charger
Wall Charger
Factory User Manual
Carrying Case

SPECIFICATIONS -
12000 mAh capacity high-power, fast charging battery
250 cranking amps
500 peak amps
Cycle Life - 1,000 Times
2 USB ports
5 blue lights power indicator
Outlet to charge the power supply module
Can safely jump start any 12-volt vehicle, even if only 2 indicator lights are lit
Full charge takes approximately 4 hours
One-year Manufacturer’s Warranty

An excellent charging system for emergency jump start reliability and to keep all of your electronics charged.

1978-1988 G-BODY with Factory T-Tops (including Buick Regal) -
FACTORY T-TOPS CUSTOM-MADE SUNSHADES (2) SET

One of the most effective methods to eliminate the sun from fading the interior on a T-Tops G-body car is to install a set of sunshades that block out the sunlight.

While several different versions exist, once installed what you see in your car all looks the same.

Our supplier uses grey factory headliner material.

Our T-Tops sunshades are notched to seat under the T-Tops molding trim. This format eliminates having to make major adjustments from inside the car. This is a very light-weight design that not only keeps the bright sunlight out, but allows the air conditioner to be more efficient.

Each set of sunshades come with easy-to-follow directions showing the proper placement, since each piece is custom made to fit each T-Top.

Another great interior restoration item.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
304 STAINLESS STEEL ONE-PIECE 3″ DOWN PIPE &
CUSTOM ALUMINIZED TEST PIPE KIT

This one-piece 3 inch down pipe will work with any factory-style exhaust Turbo housing. You have to remove the exhaust elbow so this will bolt up to the turbo exhaust housing.

It has an internal wastegate and, unlike most of the other one-piece 3″ down pipes, the internal wastegate is serviceable if needed. You have to modify the side of the turbo shield if you plan to re-use the stock turbo shield. This 3″ down pipe does have a threaded port on it to accept an air sensor or O2 sensor if needed. A plug is included if you do not have to use this port.

This 3" one piece 304 stainless steel down pipe is mandrel bent and will clear the stock inner fender and firewall. Because of the age of these cars it is recommended you have fairly new motor mounts and transmission mount so clearances stay consistent. This down pipe is slightly longer than the stock down pipe, so you have to use the custom 12″ aluminized test pipe that comes in this kit. The test pipe has the correct 4 bolt flange on it to bolt up to the factory style Y pipe. You will not be able to use a catalytic converter unless you find one that has a 3" diameter opening and is only 12″ long.

Kit comes with hardware to secure the down pipe to the Turbo. No gaskets are required.

Gains on a typical stock application in a quarter mile with no other changes are 2-3 mph and 2/10ths in a quarter mile.

This basic design has been popular for many years. This is the latest version.

Kit is drop shipped from our supplier.

NOTE - We recommend this kit be installed by a qualified auto mechanic.

A nice performance upgrade to compliment any other performance modifications you make.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

Just over a week before many of you will be getting ready to go to the annual GS Nationals in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Hope to see you there.
