NEW PARTS AND IDEAS KEEP COMING -

We have several new products in the works. The first one currently in production is being made by Casper’s Electronics for us. We are putting together an emergency connector kit to include all the 4 popular connector plug ends, since the tabs can easily break off. See New Products section for website link.

PHOTO 1 - Shows this complete new 1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal Connector Kit. This kit includes 3 used powder-coated glossy black C-clips, a used Buick blue vinyl Owner’s Manual holder, and new connector plugs for the wastegate solenoid, TPS sensor, mass air flow sensor, and the coil module connector. In many cases over the years the tabs on these popular connectors can break off, causing you to resort to a plastic tie strap to secure the connector to the sensor. This new kit is worth having since none of these connector plug ends are readily available at any auto store. See the New Products from us for more information and link to our website.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT KEYS -

In last week’s Inner Circle, we covered the knock outs for the keys Buick used in our cars.

In 1985 Buick did a Collector Edition model based on their LeSabre. You can research the background of this model on the internet. This 1985 model year for the LeSabre has never garnered much attention among collectors.

PHOTO 2 - In my private collection I have this tan cloth pouch that came with the 1985 LeSabre Limited Collector Edition. In the cloth pouch you got 2 sets of keys and a special key fob, all having the embossed Buick Limited Edition logo on it. On the crown of the hood of the 1985 LeSabre Limited was this special hood ornament, which also said Collector’s Edition.

Also in my private collection I have several sets of these Oldsmobile key blanks. Inlaid in the blank key is the Oldsmobile logo in both the ignition and trunk key. I don’t claim to be an expert on GM keys, so I have no idea what vintage these are. (See Rare Parts section as I do have several sets of these Oldsmobile key blanks for sale).

PHOTO 3 - We show a brand new set of these unique Oldsmobile logo keys.

At a later point Buick, as well as other GM car lines, had some emergency key blanks that you could get cut and use in case of an emergency. These would either be plastic or metal.

PHOTO 4 - This photo shows two different Buick key holders I found in junk cars. The one holder only gives you a metal door key and the other darker grey holder gives you a plastic door and ignition key. The other three key cards pictured are various years for the Chevrolet. In each case, each is plastic. These are just some of the small unique things I have uncovered in junk yards or swap meets.

NEW KIRBAN REQUEST -

Our long time friend Trey Crease is back in the hospital. He needs your prayers. The last time he was hospitalized earlier this year, it was for over 70 days as he had contacted MRSA in his blood. The MRSA has now returned with a vengeance in his lower spine and surrounding tissue. He has to make some tough decisions on what approach to take. The one option is a risky 12-hour operation with a heavy dosage of antibiotics. He would love to hear from you. His email is - [email protected]

We need to keep his spirits up. Prayers can work wonders.

For several years in the mid-1990s Trey operated Zero-to-Sixty Performance and he would set up at the GS Nationals in Bowling Green next to our vendor spot. He had an extensive used parts business that many of you long-time owners will remember. Prior to starting his own business, he began working for my company around 1987.

LARGE RARE PARTS SECTION THIS WEEK -

Be sure to check out the Rare Parts section in this week’s Inner Circle as we feature a number of very rare items. You have to be an Inner Circle member in order to see the Rare Parts section and prices.

CORRECTION ON WHEN GM DISK BRAKES FIRST APPEARED -

Several readers brought it to my attention that I was wrong on when GM first used disk brakes on the A-body cars. The first model year was actually 1967 not 1968, as I stated last week.

The years 1967 and 1968 used the dual piston calipers. I apologize for the mistake.

Actually 1967 was the first year for the 400 engine and the factory 8 track player in the GTO. I used to know a lot about GTOs 20 years ago!

MORE STUDEBAKER STORIES -

In last week’s Inner Circle, we mentioned that the Studebaker was one of the very first U.S. companies to offer disk brakes in 1963.

It brought to mind another Studebaker story that happened about 8 years ago.

Richard Clark had recently developed ZDDPlus, which we still offer today. When the product first became available, I spoke at various car events in my area. One year the Studebaker National Meet was held in nearby Lancaster. PA. I was invited to be a speaker. They had my seminar scheduled for 9 am in the morning. Studebaker has a huge following. I figured I would not have much of an audience at 9 in the morning, plus the fact I was virtually an unknown speaker in Studebaker circles.

I could not be more wrong. At 9 am there were probably about 75 people in the meeting room to hear me talk. I was surprised at the large turnout. Fortunately, since I had owned several Studebakers in the past, I was able to work that information into the talk.

In discussing the background of ZDDPlus, I did not mention Richard Clark’s name. I only talked about him being raised in Maryland and being well known years ago in the audio world.

After the meeting, a gentleman came up to me and asked me if the person I was referring to was Richard Clark. Of course I said yes. He said Richard Clark was the best man at his wedding. They went to the same school together and were best friends. Both shared the same interests in cars and audio. They had lost touch with each other years earlier. I gave Richard his phone number so they could catch up on old times. Richard said back in school, Jim was always interested in Studebakers. True Story.

BRAND NEW CAM SHAFT SENSORS AVAILABLE -

Because of the recent demand, we now carry this critical part, the Cam Shaft Sensor (our part #7749,) which is unique to the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals and 1989 Turbo Trans Am. For whatever reason, this part has really escalated in price.

In the 1987 Buick Price Book the retail price was $82.50. In the 2001 GM Price Book I have it was $171.48. Today it is not available from GM. In Canada the price for this precious sensor is $666. In the U.S. it carries a $570 retail price sticker!

We worked out a deal where we can sell them for $249.95. Each sensor I have seen has the GM part number stamped exactly the same on it. I have to believe that one manufacturer made this unique part and it gets packaged under various labels like AC Delco, Standard, Wells, etc. I could be wrong but that is my guess.

I know for a fact that many of the Mustang parts we market to various companies get packaged under different labels. We never instructed companies that they had to market it under our company name or by any specific name. I usually describe this part as a mini distributor, since it basically looks like a small distributor for a 4-cylinder car.

POWER PAC BUICK PERFORMANCE AND RESTORATION TIPS BOOK -

This book, “POWER PAC BUICK PERFORMANCE AND RESTORATION TIPS” by Steven L. Dove is now out of print and is no longer on our website. It was part #6791. See the Rare Parts section for new pricing on the few remaining copies we still have.

INNER CIRCLE RARE PARTS LISTING -

The only way to see our Rare Parts Listing and prices is to email [email protected] to get on our Inner Circle email list.

You would then get the weekly Inner Circle emailed directly to your inbox every Wednesday, which includes the Rare Parts section with prices. It’s free, probably the only thing that is free related to your Turbo Regal. It’s sent every Wednesday around 3 pm eastern time, without fail.

GRAND NATIONAL PALLEX SEAT MATERIAL UPDATE STILL WAITING -

As I write this issue, I am still waiting on my order of original grey pallex material. My source has to dig it out from his collection. So, if you have a request with me already, please sit tight. Once it is in my hands I will email you to make payment. I have to be patient with this source.

If you want to purchase this original 1986-1987 Grand National grey pallex material, email me direct - denniskirban.com

I am selling it by a yard, which comes 56 inches wide. It takes 1 yard to do the grey insert portion of both front Grand National bucket seats. It is the same material GM used on the upper portion of the Grand National front door panels. You would need another yard to cover both of them. You would have some material left over, but I am only offering this very rare material by the yard.

To my knowledge, no one has recreated or reproduced the original grey pallex material for these cars. While several reproductions exist and are worthy reproductions, they are no exact match to the originals.

I am also trying to locate the black pallex. Watch for word on this. I first need to make sure I get the grey from this source. I am glad I everyone is being patient.

DOOR JAMB VIN DECALS REMINDER-

Only one source can make them 100% correct and it is the company we use, ECS Automotive Concepts. He has chosen our company to work with the GM market for all 1969 through 1989 cars. If you own any GM car 1969 through 1989, we can get you brand new reproduction door jamb VIN decals exact.

TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

If you have a tip or a discovery that you found that works on your Turbo Regal, drop us an email giving us the details so we can pass the info on to our readers. Remember, even with my knowledge, I don’t know it all. Simply email me at - [email protected]

TIP FROM KIRBAN -

When replacing the plug wires on your 1986-1987 Turbo Regal, always make sure they do not come in contact with the edges of the plenum. Those sharp edges can eventually cut through the plug wires. It’s best to buy wires that are cut to the proper length, like the ones we sell. See part #1431, Custom-cut High-Performance Grey Plug Wire Set.

Also, any cars that our customers have for sale will be featured here and you can see their car with photos on our website. In this category, we will run the descriptions for two-to-three weeks and, if there is no interest in that particular vehicle, it will be deleted the following week. NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal and 1989 Turbo Trans Am -
CAM SHAFT SENSOR

Over time, the cam shaft sensor (cam sensor) can develop wear issues, which can affect the signal it sends to the ignition module and then to the ECM. It's purpose is to provide a reference point for the cam shaft. The ECM must see a signal from the cam shaft sensor for the engine to start.

This is one of the components related to the ignition circuit that is unique to only the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals and 1989 Turbo Trans Ams. It is not a stock auto store part and can cost over $300 or more.

This cam shaft sensor is brand new. It is 100% exactly like the GM sensor, and it even has the GM part number stamped on the shaft. One of the few parts that is aftermarket, yet has the GM part number on the shaft. This may be an instance where one supplier may be the actual manufacturer and they get packaged under various company names.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
4 CONNECTOR PLUGS & Hardware KIT with Buick Manual Holder

Because of the age of these cars, we are seeing more of the factory plastic wire connector tabs getting broken off on sensors as owners replace them over the years. Owners then revert to a plastic wire tie strap to secure the plug to the sensor.

Working with Casper’s Electronics, we had them make up a kit that includes the main connector ends which are subject to breakage. These connector plugs include one for the wastegate solenoid, the TPS sensor, the mass air flow sensor, and the special long narrow one that plugs into the coil pack module.

We also added 3 powder-coated black C-clips that GM used to secure the throttle cables to the throttle body and the wastegate actuator rod to the turbo. There is also additional internal hardware to secure the wire ends to the plugs included in the kit.

These are all items that are not easily found in any auto store.

As a bonus, we include a nice used original Buick blue vinyl manual holder for your glove box.

A great buy, and something you’ll appreciate the first time you need to use any item from this "emergency kit."

1982-1988 G-Body (Including Buick Turbo Regal)
and 1982-1987 FIREBIRD/CAMARO -
POWDER-COATED GLOSSY BLACK FRONT ROTORS (2) SET

Because of the hub design on the stock front brake rotors it’s difficult to find powder-coated front rotors for your Turbo Regal.

Bare metal rotors quickly turn to rust. You spend the money for nice wheels only to have rust appear on the front brake rotors. Even if the rotors have a zinc coating, it quickly wears off.

Our source custom made a template to protect certain areas from the powder coating, so the coating does not go into the center bearing area or the exposed brake pad area. They also powder coat the entire edge (lip), which is usually the first area to rust. A high-heat glossy black powder coating is used.

The end result is a good looking rotor that stays good looking.

You pay anywhere from $60 to $75 a pair for bare metal rotors. For just a few dollars more you can buy these brand new powder-coated glossy black front rotors.

NOTE - If you are interested in another color, contact us. We may be able to do a custom color set of rotors for you.

1982-1987 Buick Regal (Including Turbo Regal) -
REPRODUCTION WINDSHIELD WASHER BOTTLE

Because of the age of these cars, the original windshield washer bottle has probably turned yellow or is dirty.

Now you can make the engine compartment look new by replacing it with a reproduction windshield washer bottle.

First photo shows this bottle, and second photo shows it under the hood.

If you are replacing this bottle, it’s the perfect time to replace the old bottle with a new GM radiator overflow bottle, part #7600.

Our lower photo shows both bottles under the hood.
NOTE - This washer bottle does NOT come with the cap. The Reproduction Windshield Washer Cap, part #7632, can be purchased separately.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
REPLACEMENT BOOST LINE VACUUM T

The wastegate solenoid, turbocharger and wastegate actuator are connected by three vacuum hoses and a grey plastic “Y” fitting.

This replacement Y connector is similar in size with the correct orifice in the one outlet which match the original vacuum T. When you install this new Y, you will need to insert the same hose into the metal orifice opening as the original T.

Inside the one side of the connector “Y” fitting there is a metal orifice, which allows only a small amount of vacuum to pass through. If the “Y” or surrounding vacuum hoses are damaged or cracked, you can have an overboost condition.

You should also check the three hoses for possible cracks due to heat or swelling at the ends. This could cause engine damage from leaning out the air/fuel mixture.

NOTE - You may also be interested in these related parts - #6696 Adjustable Wastegate Actuator, #6952 High-Pressure Adjustable Wastegate Actuator, and #7495 RJC Racing Boost Controller.
Another excellent replace item for the engine.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
Reproduction BELT TENSIONER WITH NEW PULLEY

Original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal belt tensioners can be worn out or broken, which can cause major charging problems.

This new reproduction belt tensioner uses better quality steel spring materials using today’s technology. The original factory tension on the OEM tensioner is rated at 19.5 to 20. The spring tension on these tested at 20.5.

This part has not been available from GM for many years.

This reproduction belt tensioner comes with a new pulley as shown.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
