Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 11-06-2019 –

COLLECTIBLES –

Since we moved, I’ve come across lots of collectibles and things I didn’t even know I had. As we go through the items, we will make some unique items available to our readers before we put items on eBay.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON RARE PARTS FOR SALE –

In order for our Inner Circle members to have an equal opportunity on the Rare Parts, no emails regarding prices on rare parts will be honored prior to 3 pm Wednesday. This way Inner Circle members get the opportunity first to purchase any of the rare items that may be pictured in the main body of the Inner Circle which may go on our website earlier in the day each week. Inner Circle members get to see the Rare Parts listing and see the prices first.

GRAND NATIONAL T-SHIRT PROOF TEST SHOT AND 3 COLLECTIBLE DVDS –

I recently found two T-shirts test prints of the black Grand National T-shirt on cloth we did back in 1992. Both of these test shots are on cloth and measure approximately 14 inches by 14 inches and are in excellent condition. See the Rare Parts section for pricing.

I also discovered still three DVDs factory sealed that we used to sell.

One DVD is the history of Molly and his accomplishments in the automotive field, and runs about 40 minutes. Another DVD covers the 2007 Reunion and Birthday Bash, and runs about 60 minutes. The third DVD was filmed back in 1996 and highlights some of the cars we owned and cars we had for sale back then. It also highlights some of our products back then and the installation process. This DVD runs about 100 minutes. This group of DVDs is also in the Rare Parts section for sale.

PHOTO 1 – The photo on the left shows the test printing proof on cloth of the Grand National T-shirt we sold back in 1992. The photo to the right shows the three sealed DVDs that have been sold out for several years. All of these items can be found under the Rare Parts section for sale.

“FORD VERSUS FERRARI” MOVIE –

As most of you are aware, on November 15th the movie entitled, “Ford VS Ferrari” will be on the big screen. I happen to have one of the rare Revell 1:20 scale diecast GT40 cars that Revell made several years ago. Revell diecasts were extremely well detailed and they only did about 6 or so various cars. I also have a very rare placemat that is dated 2005 and it shows the Ford GT.

It may be confusing, but Ford did not maintain the license for the words GT40 so when Ford came back out with a new Ford GT, they only say Ford GT rather than GT40. You can research it on the internet to learn the history before that. I don’t claim to be an expert on either the Ford GT or the Ford GT40 models. I only know that if either model was in my garage, I would have a very worthy investment!

PHOTO 2 – The photo to the left shows two views of the highly-detailed Revell 1:20 scale Ford GT. The doors and the trunk open displaying a highly-detailed engine compartment. The photo to the right shows the placemat that is dated 2005 showing the Ford GT. Both items are in mint condition. See the Rare Parts section for pricing.

TURBO REGAL GAUGE CLUSTER LIGHTING -

We recently purchased a few parts, one of which was a partial gauge which has some old-school upgrades. I bought this from Lloyd Tarter, the original founder and creator of Bowling Green Customs. Back in the late 1980s, he and I were probably the two main vendors at the GS Nationals besides Poston out of Alabama.

Lloyd (under Bowling Green Customs) focused mostly on cosmetic upgrades, such as embroidered floor mats using the factory GM mats. He also did 145 speedo conversions using a reducer method. He has retired to sunny Florida with his wife.

Unfortunately for the Turbo owner, Buick neglected to make any upgrades to their format of lighting to the dash cluster. The format was basically the same that was used all the way back to the 1950s. Buick used 7 small bulbs that popped into the back of the plastic housing. Unfortunately, the housing was several inches deep. The gauges had solid faces, meaning the light had to shine around the gauges rather than through the gauges.

The end result was a very primitive format. It was almost like having your car run off the battery since the lighting issue was so dim.

We sell a nice upgrade for the standard analog dash, part #7234 for $99.95. It is a pack of 7 LED replacement sticks that places the LED at the end of the 2-inch long stick, so it is far closer to the actual gauges compared to the factory bulb setup that is only a half inch into the housing.

Adding to the lighting woes is the Buick optional digital dash. This was very crude and many owners would agree that it was not a worthy option. Besides lacking a tachometer, the dash looks very barren looking, in addition to the poor lightly format.

PHOTO 3 – The photo to the left shows a typical analog plastic gauge housing for a 1984-1987 Turbo Regal. You can see most of the 7 small bulbs Buick used to shed light on the analog gauges. Notice the distance the small bulbs are set back in the housing.

The photo to the right shows the fuel gauge and the tachometer, both on the factory mounting plate that would sit in front of the speedometer. This plate has a decal over it, which displays the “Buick Motorsports” decal. I have never seen one of these before. The speedometer plate was repainted and reads to 145 mph. Also, look at the speedometer face, it lacks the trip reading slot to the right. This is a rare speedometer faceplate for sure. This plate minus the trip odometer was not offered in the Turbo Regal models only the non-Turbo Regals could lack that odometer option. These items are both for sale under the Rare Parts section.

Looking back, it’s a shame the Turbo Regal models ended up lacking so many improvements outside of the engine that would have highly complimented the remarkable job they did under the hood! Most of us could easily come up with a list!

SPEAKING OF OPTIONS –

The tilt column option was not exactly cheap. It added $125 to the cost of the Turbo Regal. Of the 325-plus Turbo Regals that went thru my hands, I can only recall ever having one Grand National that had a non-tilt column. It was really weird since tilt columns are so common. So that having a car without tilt, was quite unusual. If I recall, this GN also had crank windows (I had several that had crank windows.) A tilt column was a very common option.

IN HONOR OF VETERANS DAY –

I have four very rare original one-of-a-kind artwork that was created by Bob Held when he served in the military during World War II. I have owned this artwork for about 20 years. All four are in perfect condition. I had each put in a mat frame and then clear cellophane over each one to protect them.

There is a very strong connection with this unique World War II artwork and the automotive industry. It was the early 1960s when Bob Held was a free-lance artist doing work for various local Philadelphia companies. This was back when, if you were an artist, you had to have a lot of talent as everything was done by hand.

One day he was at a local print shop in nearby Willow Grove. While he was at this print shop, in walked George Hurst. I believe at the time, George Hurst had his small shop in nearby Glenside. At the same time my Dad had his business in Glenside and I would walk around the corner and get Hurst decals for my school book covers. I was probably about 14 or 15 years old.

Anyhow George Hurst saw some of the work that Bob Held had done and immediately offered him a job. Bob accepted thinking he would work for Hurst for just a few years. Bob was not a car guy, simply a very talented artist.

As the saying goes, the rest is history. Bob was the head Art Director at Hurst for over 20 years. He even picked out the exterior bricks for the new Hurst building that was built in nearby Warminster, which opened around 1964. Bob designed every magazine ad, decal, you name it, back then.

Bob saved everything. For several years in the 1990s, since he was getting up there in years, I would go to his house several times a month and buy a lot of his Hurst artwork from him. The four black and white World War II illustrations shown in Photo 4 came from Bob. He did them while serving in the military in World War II. His signature is on each piece.

PHOTO 4 – The top left shows a model sitting by a desk. The top right has the caption, “Honest, Mom, I can take care of myself now!” The bottom left cartoon has the caption, “Sometimes I think Frisbie must have been a problem child!” The bottom right shows an attractive girl standing alongside a globe.

See the Rare Parts section for prices. These are original and one-of-a-kind hand drawn artwork, and are over 75 years old! Each one measures approximately about 12 inches by 15 inches.

You never know what we have for sale each week, but there is one constant. It is very rare and, in many cases one-of-a-kind.

UPDATE ON LAST WEEK’S COLLECTIBLES –

All the collectibles listed last week sold, most sold the very first day. You got to be quick as many of these items are one-of-a-kind and the condition is almost always like new unless stated otherwise. Also, we believe our prices are quite reasonable.

CONGRATS TO RICHARD CLARK - OWNER OF CLARK’S GARAGE IN NORTH CAROLINA –

Congrats to Richard Clark and his crew for their blistering record-setting run at the recent 2019 GS Nationals. This year’s GS Nationals event was shortened due to bad weather.

Even with some issues the Clark’s Garage Turbo Regal ran a 6.89 at 188.60 mph. They now hold the record for the quickest Turbo Regal. They accomplished this with the headers cracked!

TWO NEW PRODUCTS -

ECS Automotive Concepts developed two new products that are specific for cars that are restored. One is called Magic Guard® and is applied to plated and coated metals such as alloy wheels. It protects the parts from Mother Nature, salt, corrosion and brake dust. You simply wipe it on and off.

The other product is called Rust Prevention Magic® and is used to protect bare metal. This product is designed for parts that stay bare metal, it keeps them from getting rusted.

This protects bare metal from rusting so you can maintain that original bare metal look on parts such as some of the suspension parts, and driveshaft and not worry that they will rust.

Both of these products are lab certified and patented. Both products were created by Dave Walden, who holds the record for winning best of show at the Mopar Nationals accomplishing this amazing feat 3 times with 3 different cars.

The Magic Guard® would be good to use on your daily driver to protect the alloy wheels. It makes it easy to remove brake dust, which is a common problem unless you never apply your brakes!

See New Products for more details and links on our website.

DOES HE DESERVE THE MEDAL OR NOT?

I am referring to the Belgian Malinois dog named Conan who chased down Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi saving the lives of our servicemen. I say give the dog a medal and let him retire and enjoy a typical dog’s life!

MONOGRAM 1987 GRAND NATIONAL MODEL -

I recently saw on Facebook that Monogram has brought back the plastic 1:24 scale 1987 Grand National plastic model. Can’t blame them for cashing in on the popularity of the actual full-size car. It may be a 2 in 1 kit.

Now you can build a Grand National plastic model and see which has the better paint, the model or the actual size Grand National in your garage! I can already tell you which one won’t drip oil on your floor! Look for it in stores this fall.

HERE IS A VERY CLEVER PRODUCT THAT IS A MUST HAVE IF YOU WEAR GLASSES –

The other day near a check-out counter I spotted a small display advertising a product called “Peeps.” It was a very compact looking case that you couldn’t tell what it was by looking at it. I took a gamble and bought it since it advertised it would be the best cleaning product for glasses.

I used it for the first time the other day and, without a doubt, this product is simply amazing and is so easy to use. Plus, it’s good for 500-plus cleanings. No liquids, no smearing, and compact enough to keep in your pocket or purse. It measures less than 3-½ inches by ¾ inches wide. Such a clever product that performs exactly as advertised. My glasses are always dirty as I fail to keep them in a case as it makes it too bulky for my shirt pocket.

Later, on the internet I saw an article about the 10 great new gadgets this fall that will probably sell out before Christmas and Peeps was one of them. Whoever engineered this clever product and whatever they used on the cleaning tips is by far the best for cleaning your glasses that I have ever seen.

I read also that NASA and the US Military use a similar format. You can also use it to clean the screen on your smart phone. I think it was priced at approximately $15. By far the best solution I have ever seen for ease of use and a very creative way for cleaning your glasses or the screen on your smart phone. Their website is www.carbonklean.com

This is worth checking it out for yourself. It would make great Christmas gifts.

CAMARO 1968 COUPE BARN FIND - FOR SALE –

Originally a small block V8, this Camaro has a 1967 396/350 under the hood. Car runs and has the usual rust issues in the trunk area and rust around the shock towers. It has full gauge package with in dash factory tachometer/clock format. Also, has hidden headlights. It is set up for racing, and needs a total restoration. I am not a Camaro expert, but I know how popular these cars are. I imagine almost every part has been reproduced to make this car like new again. Car belonged to the seller’s brother who moved out of the area.

Car is about 2 miles from our house. Owner is seeking $15,000. Email me [email protected] to request photos.

RARE CHEVY 3500 SILVERADO PICKUP TRUCK - FOR SALE –

As of this writing, I don’t have any photos or more information. I just spotted this unusual pickup truck for sale last week on my way over to Pypes in nearby Hatfield. It is a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. What makes it rare is it is a 4-door cab with dual wheels and a short bed. It also has a matching color cap. Paint appears to be original with the typical clear coat issues. It is red with a grey cloth interior. It has one small crease in a passenger door. It only has 46,000 original miles. This is extremely low mileage for a 23-year-old truck. In 1996, I don’t believe they made very many 4-door Chevy 3500 trucks with dual wheels. The price on the windshield was $10,000 For a 23-year-old unusual truck, this may or may not be bargain. Tires were all like new. I did not see any rust issues. Hopefully I can get more information. Email me [email protected] if this unique truck perks your interest. Again, I am not an expert on trucks, but this struck me as being somewhat a rare find in 2019.

“AUTABUY” MAGAZINE –

Yes, I spelled the name of the magazine correctly - Autabuy. Every few weeks I go to a place that still sells magazines, has a soda fountain, and almost every brand of cigarette and cigar you could want. I go mainly to get their stacks of newspaper that they save me for packing.

The Autabuy magazine is over 170 pages and features all kinds of cars for sale, mostly by companies that specialize in collectible cars. The current issue has 3 or 4 Grand Nationals in it, all around a $30,000 price tag. It also shows one GNX with less than 500 miles on it. The price tag on the GNX is a mind boggling $179,900!

This price just seems way out of the realm of reality as many of the GNXs you see for sale are low mileage examples. What may separate the low-mileage ones is how they been stored for the last 30-plus years.

WELL-OPTIONED LOW-MILEAGE 1987 GRAND NATIONAL - FOR SALE –

This Grand National is still available. This extremely well-optioned, low-mileage 1987 Grand National that is for sale. The owner wants me to sell it for him. He has had it 6 years. The miles on this Grand National is a mere 48,200. Options include factory moonroof, power windows, power locks, tilt, cruise, delay wipers, concert sound, power trunk, digital dash, power seat, working power antenna, and posi rear. The Grand National is located in Maryland.

It has a beautiful repaint done prior to his owning it. He had paint correction done and ceramic coating this past Spring. The car really shines, probably 100%, better than original. Everything functions 100%, even the original AC.

Additional features include embroidered floor mats, few chrome goodies under the hood, Kirban adjustable fuel regulator, hot wire kit, 60lb injectors, adjustable wastegate, TT chip, new bumper fillers, new fuel tank, and has dual a-pillar gauges and console gauge package. He checked the car with a magnet and shows no putty or filler anywhere. It has the factory chip guard along bottom of the car.

According to the owner Mike, the Grand National has had 4 previous owners. The car shows no accidents or any indication that mileage is not accurate.

The price is $26,900. This Grand National is priced to sell. You would be hard pressed to find a better example of a well-optioned 1987 Grand National that would measure up to the quality of this one at this price. A factory moon roof with a power seat option is extremely rare. This car next Spring would easily bring several grand more than it is priced at this fall.

This car is show quality from any angle. For more information and photos, email me direct [email protected]

Pass the word along to your friends who may be looking for a great-looking well-optioned Grand National.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US –

MAGIC GUARD®

MAGIC GUARD® is a new patented multi-use product that protects wheels, prevents rust and repels rain. It is used as a wheel sealant that works on all wheels (chrome, mag, aluminum, etc.) by providing a hydrophobic barrier that decreases brake dust contamination and decreases wheel cleaning time by up to 50% post-application,

Another use for Magic Guard® is to protect plated and coated metals from rust and corrosion,

Because of Magic Guard’s hydrophobic nature, customers also apply it to their window glass to enhance visibility due to its superior water beading.

WHEEL SEALANT - Protect chrome, aluminum and all other wheels from brake dust, road grime, saltwater and more.

RUST PREVENTION - Protects all bare, coated and plated metal from mother nature with its durable barrier.

RAIN REPELLENT - Enhances visibility with superior water beading technology, and prevents water spots.

Dave invented these two products out of necessity because what was available for protecting metals was not effective, and his hard work began to flash rust soon after completion.

When applied to bare metal it creates a durable barrier and prevents rust.

Comes in an easy-to-use 4-ounce container, complete with soft application cloth and easy-to-follow directions.

1984-1987 Buick Regal (All Models) -
Reproduction REAR DUAL EXTENDED RANGE 10 OHM SPEAKERS (2) Set

Finally, a company has reproduced the extended range 10 ohm 4" x 10" rear speakers that was an option available on every 1984-1987 Regal, including the Turbo models.

To determine if your car came equipped with the extended range speakers, check for the code “U66” on the trunk ID label (SPID).

These upgraded extended range speakers were included with most of the various upgraded factory radios for an additional cost of $25 for the pair.

NOTE - You must have the factory cages to properly secure this speaker to the back deck.

These have the same matching 3-1/4" diameter magnet. To see if your car has this format check the SPID label for the “U66” code. If the label is missing, measure the magnet on the current rear deck speakers to see if it measures 3-1/4" diameter.

If it does, these are the speakers you need.

After more than 30 years, many are blown out due to heat and the age of the speaker.

Each pair comes with an adapter harness so you do not have to cut the factory harness.

Speakers are marked and come with directions so you know which is the plus terminal and which is the minus terminal.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING –

I am sure there is a mathematic way to figure out how many leaves a typical tree can drop during the fall season. No matter what that figure is, it provides a good income for those in the landscaping business.
