CHRISTMAS SPECIALS -

Starting today our Christmas Specials run through December 30th. We are offering 10 different specials and also include 2 FREE items with your Christmas Special order.

ANNUAL THANKSGIVING M&M CONTEST -

With Thanksgiving fast approaching, we wanted to get our annual Thanksgiving contest ready for this issue.

As long-time members know, I do the M&M contests in memory of my parents. Growing up they would have M&M contests for us five kids on special occasions. It was a competition that gave all us kids an equal chance at winning. None of us had to be smarter than another!

With that being said, here are the rules:

Contest is open to everyone, except those that are in the Turbo Regal business. You must email me personally - [email protected] - your 1 single guess. The person with the exact count or closest guess under actual count will be declared the First Place Winner. In case of a tie, the earliest emailed guess I receive will be the First Place Winner.

A Second Place Winner will also be awarded.

The deadline is this coming Saturday, November 19th, 6 pm eastern time. I hope to get the prizes shipped to the winners before Thanksgiving.

THE PRIZES - First Place Winner gets a $75 Gift Certificate good for any of our website parts, plus the new flip-down stay-down modification kit to convert the original rear license plate bracket, part #7720, a $19.95 value. Also the First Place Winner gets our new four connector plug and hardware kit with manual holder, part #7748, a $39.95 value. And, of course, the real prize the deviled egg tray filled with M&Ms!

The Second Place Winner gets a $50 Gift Certificate good for any of our website parts and the new flip-down stay-down modification kit to convert the original rear license plate bracket, part #7720, a $19.95 value.

Both winners and the actual M&M count will be announced in the next Inner Circle email.

Remember, you get one guess and it must be emailed directly to me to qualify - [email protected] -

NOTE - Please put “M&M Contest” in the email reference line.

PHOTO 1 - Shows two views of the deviled egg tray filled with M&Ms. Here is the only clue, which will tell you the basic size of this tray. It holds 24 deviled eggs! You need to give your best guess as to how many M&Ms are in the deviled egg tray without going over the actual count.

These are actually one of my favorite treats! Good luck players!

ORIGINAL PALLEX GREY SEAT MATERIAL -

What many of you may not know is that if you brush your hand front to back, the pallex material will appear darker than the other way. The real test is to do this to your back seat, which will not have as much wear.

Like some tires today that are directional, the pallex material is marked on the back with an arrow showing the way it needs to be installed, so the material runs from front to back.

Also on the back are the letters C & A, which stands for Collins & Aikman, who made the material for GM.

The standard width (side to side) of the fabric is 55 inches.

I am not implying that I am an expert on pallex material. According to my one friend who owns a upholstery shop for over 25 years, he explained to me. The material is 55 inches wide, which I believe is the standard width of the material. If you were to measure the grey section of your bucket seat base and back cushion - times two - you will see how the width of those figures comes very close to the width of the material, which is 55 inches. Again, this is my guess. This may also explain why some leather-wrapped steering wheels have a single seam and yet others (my car for example) have two seams. Waste translates into expense. This is strictly my opinion as I was not there to back in 1986 to sew the Grand National seats or steering wheels.

As for the back seat, I don’t have a pattern or a car that I can look at to determine that width of the grey pallex needed. Also when I get some black pallex material I have no idea how much black pallex is needed to do a bucket seat. All I can do is give a price and measurements of the material I have for sale. It’s up to you, the buyer, to determine how much you need.

There is no doubt that original pallex material, as long as it is properly stored, will retain and gain in value. Buick did choose to go with an upgraded material in the Grand Nationals and the GNXs models, compared to what they used for the various seat materials in the Turbo Regals. As far as the Limited models they did skimp a little as only the top surfaces are real leather and the side panels are actually vinyl. You have to remember you see it as a single car Buick/GM sees it in the thousands when dollars are concerned.

PHOTO 2 - In the photo on the left you can see the letters “C & A” then “88” for the year and a small solid arrow, which indicates direction. In the photo on the right I have laid out a Grand National upper and lower bucket seat insert. The patterns sit on top of a 55-inch wide original grey pallex material. You can see that although it’s very close, the 55 inches should be enough to do both seats. In looking at the back of my two patterns, there is virtually no overlap of grey pallex. I see zero grey on the back where it meets the ribbing. This definitely shows the importance of measuring two or three times, and cutting once. At the very least you would be able to get 3 of the cushions out of a 55-inch wide material.

Again, I repeat, this is my opinion. You need to decide what length material you want from the Rare Parts section. The one thing I am sure of is you only need 12 inches to redo each Grand National/GNX upper door panel. If nothing else, those are subject to sun fade over the years, as well as cigarette burns and wear issues.

TURBO REGAL ESCUTCHEONS -

This is the plastic molding that is attached to the inner door panels. The rear part is the same for both doors and the front has a specific molding for the left side and the right side. Reproductions are available and they look great from what I have seen.

What you may or may not know is that Buick used slightly different shaded versions for 1984 through 1987. According to the parts book, the 1987 models was one shade by itself, listed as “shale grey.”

In case you’re curious, according to the 1991 parts book I am referring to, they sold for about $12.95 each.

I bring this up because in this week’s Rare Parts section, I have 3 sections for sale. Parts are brand new in the GM wrapper, which verifies that I have the 1987 versions.

PHOTO 3 - I figured I would picture these escutcheons in the GM wrapper as it’s been years since many of us has seen them brand new. The two moldings shown in the newer looking GM wrapper are part #20656101, which is the rear one for both door panels of the 1987 Turbo Regals. The one in the older GM wrapper is part #20656103 and is the front left hand door panel escutcheon. It is also listed for the 1987 Turbo Regals only. See the Rare Parts section for pricing, since they are all for sale. I suspect these will sell very quickly!

BUICK “LET’S TALK” BOOKLETS

The Let’s Talk booklet was one of the 5 booklets that came in your glove box when you bought your Turbo Regal. I have discovered that over the years Buick has changed that booklet at least 3 times from the original 1979 copyright until the mid-to-late 1990s.

PHOTO 4 - I show all 3 versions of the “Let’s Talk” booklet that I have discovered in various Buicks in the junkyards over the years. The one on the far left is what would be in your 1984-1987 Turbo Regal. The one in the middle is almost identical. Last, but not least, is the one Buick used and perhaps still uses today.

THEY SAY 21 MILLION -

According to a recent article I read in the USA Today, it is estimated 21 million mice and rodents will seek refuge this winter inside houses and garages. Most mice only need an opening the size of one thin dime. I know, my cats are up to the task in my pole building as I find one dead mouse at least every 5-7 days.

Turbo owners take note - the number one home for them in a Regal is under the hood pad. This is one of the most costly parts to replace.

So those in winter climates, take precautions to keep rodents out of your stored car.

FOR SALE - 2006 PONTIAC GTO -

This 2006 GTO is mint and has never seen the rain. Car is red exterior with black interior, 6-speed manual transmission. GTO has upgraded headers. Car has been garaged since new. The car looks brand new from any angle, inside and out. The 2006 GTO was the last of the three-year run and considered the best. The miles are the same as the price - $24,000.

Car belongs to local friend of mine. I bought his Grand National years ago. For more information, email me direct - [email protected] . Possible interesting trade may be considered.

FOR SALE - DODGE VIPER SRT-10 COUPE -

A 2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 Coupe is available for sale. Car is Venom red with black interior. The car has air conditioning, power locks, power windows, and CD player. REFURBISHED UPGRADED STEERING SHAFTS -

As you read this, I have just two of these refurbished lower steering shafts, part #7574, in stock. They are getting increasingly tougher to find and refurbish. The price is $109.95 and $10 UPS ground shipping to the basic 48 states. You must email me direct - [email protected] - if you want one.

GNX 547 GOING TO MECUM AUCTION -

This is, without a doubt, the one GNX that is probably the highest value on the GNX chart. It is well documented with only two owners, properly stored, and has a mere 60 miles on it.

To my knowledge, this car has only been shown a handful of times and has been shown at two of our Reunion events. The original owner is a long-time personal friend of ours from our GTO days. He actually bought at least one of our GTOs.

It will be very interesting to see if this GNX fetches the real big money. It will also be interesting to see if someone in GM steps in as a bidder, so the car can go back to Buick, which is what Buick wanted to do after it slipped away originally.

Below is the link to Mecums website and info on GNX 547. Start saving your money now and getting your spouse’s permission! A special thanz to Jason and Brandon for the information.

I was able to reach Trey last week by phone. He is now at home on a heavy dose of antibiotics and pain medicine that basically makes him tired most of the day and night. He greatly appreciates all of you that reached out to him by email.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1984-1987 Grand National / GNX and 1984-1987 T-Type -
SLIP-ON GREY & BLACK
FRONT SEAT COVERS (2) and SEAT BELT COVERS (2) SET

With the price and limited availability of original grey and black pallex material for Grand Nationals and GNXs, it is important to protect your original seats from any dirt, wear, everyday mishaps and UV rays.

After much research, we found a high-quality set of grey and black slip-over seat covers for the bucket seat format. The bucket seat covers (2) are a one-piece design for each bucket seat.

Included with the set of covers are two small covers for the seat belts, if you want to use them.

The set does NOT include covers for the headrests.

These have been tested for fit by one of our long-time customers. After trying out two different brands of seat covers, this is brand he picked for quality and fitment.

Installation is quite simple and requires no tools or mechanical skills! You don't even have to remove the headrest to install the seat cover.

The seat covers are secured by elastic straps and velcro.

The center of each seat cover is a dark shade of grey with black on the sides of the cover, which is a very similar design to the original Grand National seats. These also look good in a Turbo Regal with a grey interior.

The material is 65% polyester and 35% synthetic rubber, and is machine washable.

The seat covers are plain - no logos or printing. They provide superior protection against wear, spills, moisture, and UV rays. These seat covers are also water resistant.

Our other photos show the cover on a Grand National seat right after they were put on. Any wrinkles clear once the covers are on for a while.

NOTE - The colors in our photos on our website may not represent these covers exactly due to computer monitor differences.

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal and 1989 Turbo Trans Am -
CAM SHAFT SENSOR

Over time, the cam shaft sensor (cam sensor) can develop wear issues, which can affect the signal it sends to the ignition module and then to the ECM. Its purpose is to provide a reference point for the cam shaft. The ECM must see a signal from the cam shaft sensor for the engine to start.

This is one of the components related to the ignition circuit that is unique to only the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals and 1989 Turbo Trans Ams. It is not a stock auto store part and can cost over $300 or more.

This cam shaft sensor is brand new. It is 100% exactly like the GM sensor, and it even has the GM part number stamped on the shaft. One of the few parts that is aftermarket, yet has the GM part number on the shaft. This may be an instance where one supplier may be the actual manufacturer and they get packaged under various company names.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
4 CONNECTOR PLUGS & Hardware KIT with Buick Manual Holder

Because of the age of these cars, we are seeing more of the factory plastic wire connector tabs getting broken off on sensors as owners replace them over the years. Owners then revert to a plastic wire tie strap to secure the plug to the sensor.

Working with Casper’s Electronics, we had them make up a kit that includes the main connector ends which are subject to breakage. These connector plugs include one for the wastegate solenoid, the TPS sensor, the mass air flow sensor, and the special long narrow one that plugs into the coil pack module.

We also added 3 powder-coated black C-clips that GM used to secure the throttle cables to the throttle body and the wastegate actuator rod to the turbo. There is also additional internal hardware to secure the wire ends to the plugs included in the kit.

These are all items that are not easily found in any auto store.

As a bonus, we include a nice used original Buick blue vinyl manual holder for your glove box.

A great buy, and something you’ll appreciate the first time you need to use any item from this "emergency kit."

1982-1988 G-Body (Including Buick Turbo Regal)
and 1982-1987 FIREBIRD/CAMARO -
POWDER-COATED GLOSSY BLACK FRONT ROTORS (2) SET

Because of the hub design on the stock front brake rotors it’s difficult to find powder-coated front rotors for your Turbo Regal.

Bare metal rotors quickly turn to rust. You spend the money for nice wheels only to have rust appear on the front brake rotors. Even if the rotors have a zinc coating, it quickly wears off.

Our source custom made a template to protect certain areas from the powder coating, so the coating does not go into the center bearing area or the exposed brake pad area. They also powder coat the entire edge (lip), which is usually the first area to rust. A high-heat glossy black powder coating is used.

The end result is a good looking rotor that stays good looking.

You pay anywhere from $60 to $75 a pair for bare metal rotors. For just a few dollars more you can buy these brand new powder-coated glossy black front rotors.

NOTE - If you are interested in another color, contact us. We may be able to do a custom color set of rotors for you.

1982-1987 Buick Regal (Including Turbo Regal) -
REPRODUCTION WINDSHIELD WASHER BOTTLE

Because of the age of these cars, the original windshield washer bottle has probably turned yellow or is dirty.

Now you can make the engine compartment look new by replacing it with a reproduction windshield washer bottle.

First photo shows this bottle, and second photo shows it under the hood.

If you are replacing this bottle, it’s the perfect time to replace the old bottle with a new GM radiator overflow bottle, part #7600.

Our lower photo shows both bottles under the hood.
NOTE - This washer bottle does NOT come with the cap. The Reproduction Windshield Washer Cap, part #7632, can be purchased separately.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
