A FEW MORE PARTS TO CONSIDER FOR YOUR TURBO REGAL -
With the coming winter for the northern part of the country it is a good time to look at some of the projects that you may not have done to your Turbo Regal. This is assuming you have a dedicated work area that is inside with heat and the proper tools, as well as the skill. I have two of the three requirements: it's the skill level that is a problem with me. I can locate the problem, fixing it generally requires paying someone else to perform the task. Having a lift is a must for many of the projects that may require your attention. Having the proper height in your garage or pole building is critical before you put a lift on your Christmas list for your spouse to consider.
Over the years I have often preached about the importance of installing either the 4 or 6 lower body bushings/cushions that the Turbo Regals did not get. The Monte Carlo got them, but not the Turbo Regal. Regardless of the reason or theories on why Buick did not install them, it is well worth installing them in. The longer you delay the tougher it may be to remove the factory bolts. If that bolt spins it means additional expense to cut a hole in the floor and tack weld a new cage nut. Also over a period of time the grade 8 bolt can come loose and simply fall out!
Having bought and sold over 225 plus of the 1986 and 1987 I never saw a precise pattern why some Turbo Regals had 4 missing lower body bushings yet others were missing 6. From the factory all Turbo Regals did not get the 4 lower body bushings. The one by the center of the door and the one just in front of the axle assembly. The Turbo Regals that I would find that were missing 6 would be the last one by the rear bumper and usually on a 1986 model. Again I am going by memory. Every car I sold I had put them in along with the front brace kit. That combination put a nice solid car in the hands of the buyer.
The other part that needs to be looked at, is the brake proportioning valve. As I have said many times in the past Buick used steel ones and brass ones. The brass one is one of our Christmas Specials. Steel quickly turns to rust like your driveshaft! Again I have no idea when they switched over or on even days they used steel and on odd days they installed brass proportioning valves. With the knowledge we have now it would have been neat to watch our car purchase come down the assembly line. I would have said install the aluminum bumper braces, go with the brass brake portioning valve, and also throw in those lower body bushings that normally you did not install. Could you also take a few extra minutes and affix the two labels on the trunk lid nice and straight and with no bubbles would be appreciated. Painting the exterior it would have been worth slipping the painter and prep team a few extra bucks to get a decent paint job!

The top right photo shows the reproduction brake proportioning we sell #7189 for $79.95. The bottom left and bottom right photo clearly shows the gap when the lower body bushing has not been installed. I have seen some cases where that grade 8 bolt over the years simply falls out. Our part number is #7306 for the 4 bushings. The price for the 4 bushings is $29.95. The part number for the 6 bushings is #7307. The price for the 6 bushings is $39.95. In each case you get all new grade 8 bolts.
No lift is needed as I did all the cars by simply laying on the driveway at our old house to install them. I was younger then, it would be a bit tougher today for me to perform the task!
1986-1987 TURBO REGAL WASTEGATE ACTUATOR -
Here is another easy to install upgrade that not only improves the appearance, but is adjustable. The factory wastegate actuator on an original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal is not adjustable. The GNX did receive an adjustable wastegate actuator. Most of the original wastegate actuators by now unless they have very low miles are covered in oil for one reason or another. Because of the issue with oil we highly recommend at the same time you check the rubber boost line which can easily become loose due to oil seepage. It’s best to wire tie the vacuum hose to the wastegate actuator. A word of caution when adjusting the rod longer than the factory length, be very careful as a few small turns can translate into a lot higher boost levels. Go too high and you can blow a head gasket!

FROM MEMORIES PAST -
As you can imagine having been at this “game” since the fall of 1987 I have trays and trays of photos. Course they are not in any particular order! One of the greatest product ideas came about early on thanks to long time good friend Pete Serio out of Ohio. His unique skill set was adjusting the door windows on the Turbo Regals. One of the shortcomings of these cars. From this he created the very popular window rattle kit that we have sold both retail and wholesale for over 25 years. We made this popular kit one of our Christmas specials!
When I had my second test car the dark blue 1987 Turbo-T that I bought out of Florida Pete discovered that the Cadillac Cimarron passenger power seat had the correct power seat track and the correct matching side cover for the switch. Once installed it turned out to be the perfect match. The end result was it looked factory. Back then we did sell a few of those kits. Course today you can't find Cadillac Cimarrons in the junkyards! The Cadillac Cimarron was produced 1982 through 1988 model year. The Cimarron was not one of Cadillac’s finest moments.
One of the rarest options was offered on the 1987 Turbo-T Limited. This was the coach lamps C93 SPI code. It was a $102 option back in 1987. Available only on the limited. They mounted on the exterior rear pillar area. This is not to be confused with the door courtesy and warning light option available on the Limited. That was SPI code C90 with a $44 price tag. They went on the inside lower door panels. One time I was fortunate enough to find all the pieces that make up this rare option brand new. I think Cadillac had the same or similar option on certain models around the same time frame.
You all probably wish you had neighbors as nice as I had back when we resided on Sugarbottom Road. They would winter every year at their home Naples, Florida. Not only did they give me their 2 garage bays to use to store cars inside, but their driveway as well. Their thinking was it would always appear that people were there and the house was not empty.
The best neighbors ever. The husband for years drove a diesel Oldsmobile. His wife always had a new Cadillac. I remember one summer his diesel powered Oldsmobile needed some repair work. He asked if he could “rent” one of my cars. I rented him a 5.0 Mustang and told him to be careful as the acceleration would be a bit quicker than the diesel Oldsmobile! He had it for two weeks. I refused to accept his money.

The bottom right photo shows just 3 of the Turbo Regals I had stashed one winter at my neighbors house. The light grey one closest to you in the photo was pretty rare. It had the black out option, but instead of the popular grey interior it had the blush blue interior which really looked good. Hardly ever see that combination. I actually drove that car for several months on a dealer plate even attending a GTO National convention.
ROLLS ROYCE SILVER CLOUD -
Considered by many at the time to be the world’s most illustrious motor car. Produced from 1955 through 1966. At a recent swap meet I attended I found this pen and pencil set for sale. Made by the Bradley Company “Pioneers in Precision Penmanship” was their tagline.
Cadillac was a GM car line that would usually include a special pen and pencil set in their owner manual holders in the glove box.

TRUNK JACKING INSTRUCTIONS LABEL -
If you are like me chances are you probably never read the entire instructions on the trunk jacking instructions. Next time you open your trunk, look at the second point under the Jacking Instructions. It says, in part, “Set automatic transmission in “park” (manual transmission) in reverse.” This is prior to jacking up the car. Buick to my knowledge did not offer manual transmissions 1984-1987.
Whatever employee had the huge task of affixing the Jacking Instructions made sure they never affixed any two the same exact way. Let alone making sure no bubbles would be in the label. It’s obvious very little effort was put in the trunk area from the $3 throw rug to affixing the jacking instructions and the SPI label.

SPI/SPID/TRUNK ID LABEL UPDATE -
I heard from another Canadian customer who also bought in late 1985 a brand new 1986 Grand National. He reminded me that in 2016 I had a contest for the owner having the most codes on the SPI label and the least number of codes on the SPI label. Kevin's car had 100 codes! A remarkable number. I am fairly confident that his 100 holds the record. I can’t imagine any Turbo Regal having more than 100 codes. I like to hear from someone at the other end of the scale showing perhaps under 50 SPI codes. Again in my opinion both cars would be quite valuable depending on other factors.

We discovered that FedEx will not forward any packages that are sent to the old PO Box or to our old address in Plumsteadville. Instead they deliver the packages to the old address and leave them outside or send them back to the shipper. They refuse to forward and say that we should notify the shipper. In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.

STEERING WHEEL CORES. Currently we need good 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering cores. They must be straight and not have rusted spokes. We will issue a Letter of Credit of $100 for each acceptable core. You must email me [email protected] a photo first to make sure the steering wheel is acceptable.
POWERMASTER BRAKE UNITS. Currently, we are accepting powermaster brake units. We give a $150 Letter-of-Credit for each acceptable core. If you include the turbo pedal add $10. You would receive $160 Letter-of-Credit. To avoid having your core not accepted, you MUST first email me a photo of the core you plan to send in - [email protected] - We will NOT accept any cores that have severe rust issues or have been disassembled. Core must have the
brake switch and brake bowl reservoir. Too many of the cores we have been getting are in such terrible shape they are worthless to us.
TURBO CORES must be the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal stock turbo. They must be complete. We will issue you a $175 Letter-of-Credit for each acceptable core. We need cores now.

Maximum number of words is 125 words, which is about 7 to 9 lines of copy. No photos. You can list a website. We recommend you state your name, phone number or email, a price, and your location in your ad.
The cost for 2 consecutive weeks is $25. The cost for 4 consecutive weeks is $40. You save $10 with the 4-week plan. No changes can be made to your existing running ad. You can only run one ad at any given time. We will have a code system at the end of your ad, so we will know what week number your ad is to run - 2 or 4 weeks.
It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.
We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.

One thing that has been missing all these years for the Turbo Regal owner is a nice stainless black powder-coated license plate frame. We have designed several with a unique tagline referring to some of the most collectible high-performance car models.
We have come up with the various designs shown in Photo 2.
The handsome metal black license plate frame measures 12-1/4″ x 6-1/4″, which is the standard size to hold state license plates. Frames are made from stainless steel, then powder-coated black for lasting quality.
Included with each frame is a packet of new attaching hardware, complete with black caps so the hardware doesn’t show.
Each frame comes with the decal already affixed. Most of the decals are white wording on a black background. Several decals are two colors (white and red) on a black background.
Notice the font style for the tagline “HIGH OUTPUT V6” decal matches the 3.8 sfi turbo hood emblems.

Originally Buick put all the documents in a plain clear plastic bag. Since these turbo cars didn’t come with a holder in the car, we’ve designed one.

“BUICK MOTORSPORTS” FENDER COVER
The “BUICK MOTORSPORTS” logo is silk screened in white, red and tan on a 34″ x 22″ black fender cover and is GM licensed.
It is made from a non-slip PVC foam cushioned material, so it won’t slide off the fender. Because the surface is non-slip, it holds your tools in place and minimizes potential chips and scratches. It resists most automotive fluids, such as motor oil, brake fluid, coolant, etc.

BUTYL TAPE - 5/16” DIAMETER 10-FOOT ROLL -
This butyl tape is black, 5/16" diameter, and comes in a 10-foot roll.
The list of uses for this product is endless. Butyl tape has a strong adhesive and excellent sealing effect. It has very good waterproof performance. It is a "tape type" sealer used by glass shops to seal windshields and rear window glass.
It is not available in most auto stores, which is why we now carry it. Its unique feature of controlled compressibility allows easy installation and yet will not squeeze out when pressed. I have been using it for a variety of projects for many years.
We include it with several of the parts we sell, such as the LED Third Brake Light and the foam filter for the wastegate solenoid. In both cases, it is used to hold the part in place. It’s ideal to fill small holes in the trunk. Buick used it to seal the quarter windows.
If you have a section of wind noise on the weatherstrip seal to the door glass, simply put a section of butyl tape between the molding and the weatherstrip to "puff" out that section of the weatherstrip. The problem is solved. If you have T-Tops and are replacing the metal T section, it’s ideal to use this between the T metal bar and the roof area.
It’s ideal to help seal any moldings in place or lose trim.
Every owner should have a roll of butyl tape in their garage or workshop.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
