EAST COAST BUICK REGIONALS -

This event was a huge success for the Magna Club that puts this on every Fall. The weather was absolutely picture perfect. I was fortunate enough that my GrandDaughter was able to come and help me with selling my used parts. She had a great time. I did not realize it at first but this was her very first time going to a drag strip. She had been to several national car events with me but never to a dragstrip. She watched in awe the various cars that went down the strip.

If you have never been to this event they run a wide variety of cars on the track that day. Everything from dragsters to highly modified cars and trucks. They had 65 cars pre-registered for the car show portion. I doubt that included the Buicks GS models and turbo regals that showed up to strictly race. Nor does it include the 30 plus Turbo Regals that showed up later in the morning. I got there a little after 8 am and it took over a half an hour to get up to the gate to get into the track!

This annual event is quickly outgrowing the space they have allotted for the car show! A good problem to have. There were at least 3 or 4 real GNXs at the show. Including one clone GNX. I never gave it much thought but with real GNXs now in the 6 digits it makes sense that some owners will create a clone of a GNX. Almost everything is available to make the conversion. Perhaps the one difficult item to obtain would be a proper SPID trunk label that contains that T2L code which signifies GNX package. I think that would be the toughest thing to duplicate. Years from now at auctions bidders are going to have to do their homework when bidding on a GNX to avoid buying a clone.



MY OBSERVATIONS FROM THE MAGNA EVENT -

I did see several of my old cars there. One the owner was telling me he bought it out of Arizona and I had gotten him proof it was one of my cars. Several cars in attendance had Mollys signature on the SPID label and some had his signature twice with the date. Having Molly sign the actual SPID label at our events he attended makes it hard to clone. Molly did this for us at no charge to the car owner. In looking over the various Turbo Regals in attendance I can’t recall seeing more than 2 of the 1984-1985 vintage. None with the Lear Seiglar seats. Also I did not see any unusual colors like the brown, tan or sage green colors. Also missing no light or dark blue examples like the dark blue one I had years ago. Assuming none were there in those colors based on say 90 plus Turbo Regals you can clearly see how rare those handful of colors really are. I did see some rare examples Burgundy exterior with a tan interior which is inusual. Also a black Turbo-T with a burgundy interior instead of grey which would be more popular. I did see one ace car that was two tone black and grey. Other than that one I did not see any other two tone examples. Again there could have been one there that I did not see because the cars were so spread out.

Parts I would say over 80% of the parts for sale were used with very very few NOS parts. Most used parts sellers. I did buy a few things from several vendors. We did get a bunch of 1986-1987 mass air sensor cores, turbo cores, and powermaster cores. All our big items sold in the first hour or so.

Another thing I noticed among the show cars is more and more owners are displaying original brochures, or documentation about their car. The Turbo Regals have basically gone full circle. First sold as used cars now recognized as collector cars and the big payoff is of course their values are through the roof!

I know in talking to the Grand National owner of my one cars out of Arizona what he paid 6 years ago is already worth double that based on the very low miles, documentation that it was one of my cars added to the value.

GNX owners have a real tough choice. With values in the 6 digits, you have to decide to simply look at it or drive it adding miles and decreasing the value? I did see one owner racing his real GNX! To think I sold 11 real GNXs over the years!



OUR FOUR TURBO REGAL WINNERS THAT WE PICKED -

Again because the cars were so spread out and I was so busy I couldn't spend much time picking the four cars that would win one of my awards. Bill Furst with his white Turbo-T got one award. His car I know from past events actually has fewer options than my car had. Very remarkable to have a low optioned car. His car only has 50 codes on the SPI label. Another winner of having an unusual Turbo car was Adam Loose with his black Turbo T which had burgundy interior. Besides being a rare combo this car was gorgeous. Tim Brock with his 1987 Turbo- T also was a winner. Another car that I wish I had actually did have years ago. Got it out of Alabama years ago. Tim has kept it pristine since then. Most original car was a white Limited with 42,000 miles on it belonging to Jeff Boctus. His car was an outstanding example of an original Turbo-T Limited. I apologize if I spelled anyone's name wrong.

OUR NEW 1984-1987 BUICK REGAL LOCK PILLAR REINFORCEMENT PLATES -

We picked up our initial order of these lock pillar reinforcement plates the other day. Sales have been brisk for this clever new part. It serves a great purpose and actually looks like a factory part. The gloss black powder coating probably outshines the factory black paint on your car! On other color Turbo Regals being it is black it doesn't look out of place. The reason I say that is just above this is the black plastic air vent and below our new part is the black trigger part for the seat belt.

Ideally at the same time you want to also purchase new door strikers. A cheap upgrade to replace the factory door strikes that have been hammered for 30 plus years of having the door shut. I strongly recommend if you have the optional T-Tops you definitely should replace the door strikers as well. Being the strikers are from GM it's only a matter of time before GM says they are no longer available. This could happen next week or next year. I have no idea. The part number for the new reinforcement plates is #6774 on our website and the part number for the door strikes is ##6776 also on our website. Both are now in stock.

PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows the typical cracks that can form around the original door striker. The middle photo shows that same area after we removed the original door striker. You Can see the cracks around the striker's area. The far right photo shows the new reinforcement plate installed. The bottom left photo shows the NOS GM door strikers and the new lock pillar reinforcement plates. Notice how the shape of the reinforcement plate follows the body line. It is not just a rectangle shape. By making it follow the contour of the body it makes it look like a factory part and at the same time giving more support to that area of the door jamb. By having the reinforcement plates powder coated they will stay nice. The kit comes with directions. When you remove the factory door striker you leave out one of the washers or shims so the spacing remains the same when you install the lock pillar reinforcement plate so the spacing distance remains the same. We made the lock pillar reinforcement plates the same thickness as the shim you removed. It is not some flimsy piece of metal.




1987 GRAND NATIONAL HARDTOP FOR SALE -

Just got word earlier today from one of my long-time customers (1989?) is going to sell his 1987 Grand National hardtop. Purchased used way back in 1988 and always garaged. Car has been to many of our open house events when he resided in our area. Car is now located in NC. Richard Clark performed some maintenance work on this Grand National 2 years ago and Pete Hoffman also installed the window rattle kits. Richard drove the car every day to lunch and got many compliments about the car. At that time Richard Clark put the real value of this car based on condition north of 30 grand! Plus the SPID trunk label was signed by Molly not once but twice! This is rare as he was at two of our Open House events with the last one in 2007.

He has the original window sticker and some of the paint is original. Car has had extremely great care. Mileage is 175,000. Runs strong. Transmission was rebuilt. New Cold Case radiator was installed.

Here is a list of the factory options in this remarkable Grand National. Front seat reading lamps, power door locks, power windows, electric trunk release, protective body side molding, 6-way power driver's seat, power antenna,s limited slip rear, AM/FM stock radio, cruise control, tilt wheel, concert sound speakers, rear defogger, tinted windows, and analog dash. Window sticker shows it sold for $17,7XX.

Upgrades include: Cold Case radiator, translator, and LT1 mass air sensor. Mass air pipe. Also RJC power plate, Kirban connecting front brace, front frame brace set, rear seat braces, and under the hood braces. Upgraded fuel pump, body bushings, low fuel warning, KYB shocks, custom made stainless dual exhaust system with flow master mufflers. New serpentine belt, coil pack, spark plugs, etc. Also a new gas tank.

The interior is in remarkable condition and shows virtually no wear at all. The fact this interior including the driver's seat is extremely nice shows the car has always had good care. All the braces he had installed years ago which goes a long way in keeping the car tight. He even has the key punch outs as well. The fact he has owned it since 1988, maintained it, kept it mostly stock, garaged it all these years, and has the window sticker makes this example a very worthy car to consider buying. You would be hard pressed to find a better example of a 1987 Grand National hardtop for this price and has been maintained as well as this car has had all these years. Perhaps most remarkable with 175,000 miles it still has the powermaster brake setup functioning on his car!

PHOTO 4 - The top left and top right photo show a really nice original band new hardbound GNX book. I bought this at the show last Saturday. The seller did not have the box unfortunately. The bottom left is an original GNX poster that was made back in 1988. It is in a glass frame. The bottom right photo shows a mint pair of lower door panels from a Limited Turbo Regal in grey. Extremely rare. Reason I still have them is I forgot to take them to the show last Saturday. The Limited models had the plushier carpet at the bottom. This pair of lower door panels is mint! All these items can be found in the Rare Parts section for sale with an accurate description. .



WHERE WERE YOU WHEN IT HAPPENED - PART TWO

Backtracking slightly to where I was when JFK was assassinated in November of 1963. The school I went to was a small school just outside Philadelphia. In our graduating class it numbered just under 100 students so everyone knew everyone in each grade. My parents were quite lenient. I got my first car at age 15 before I turned 16. It was a 1956 Oldsmobile coupe. Unfortunately I was not as smart as I am now and it had a bad motor. It was at this point my Dad said he would sign for me to buy a new car. He did not want me to get stuck with another bad used car. My original thought as it would have been for most male 16 year olds was to buy a Corvette especially in the year 1963 when the new Stingray was introduced. (Years later I would buy a 1963 split window coupe.) That was quickly vetoed. Ford was introducing a new Galaxie model, a fastback, calling it a 1963 ½ model. My Dad at the time liked Fords and owned a 1962 T-Bird. My Mom always had a Cadillac. She liked a big heavy car.

I had worked that previous summer for my Dad. Myself and another kid ran an inserting machine so I had been saving my money. Just prior to turning 16 in mid September of 1963 my Dad signed the loan papers for a new 1963 Ford XL fastback. The car had a black exterior with red interior. Bucket seats with automatic on the floor.. I was the only school kid with a brand new car at school. I would park at the closest exit to the parking lot. To this day I still remember that school ended at 2:31 every day! The popular cars back then among my classmates were the 1955-1957 Chevys which still remains probably just as popular today.

In a matter of days of turning 16 on September 14th, my Dad's secretary took me to get my drivers license. I passed with flying colors. I was on cloud nine. At the time my Dad hired several of my classmates Moms to do mass mailings so I would make deliveries and pick ups every day after school. Things turned bad rather quickly and by early November my parents were getting notices that I was not doing well in school. My Dad announced that I would no longer be allowed to drive to school and made me turn over my car keys to him on a Wednesday night. You can imagine how I took this shattering news. I would usually eat breakfast out in the morning at a nearby Howard Johnsons before school and pick up my girlfriend and drive to school. Unknown to my Dad I had a second set of car keys.

Looking back it was not my smartest move but my younger 3 sisters and 1 brother figured with all the heartache I caused their lives would be easy as they would never be that disobedient. ! Actually only my one sister who was 7 years younger than me has a recollection of this time. My other two sisters and brother were too young to remember. The next morning I asked my grandfather who lived with us at the time if he had any money he could lend me. He lent me $20. I did not tell him what for. I walked out the door, started my Ford up and went to pick up my girlfriend. Once I picked up my girlfriend I drove her to school. I told her not to tell anyone of my plans. She kept her word! My parents in the meantime simply thought I disobeyed them and drove to school and would deal with me when I got home that day. This gave me at least a 6 hour head start.

As a 16 year old my plans were not thought out as to where I would be heading. Initially I drove south into Maryland before getting on I believe route 40 heading west. I did stop and see a girl I knew in Indiana I think around the Fort Wayne, Indiana area. I can’t recall how I knew her. I can’t say for certain if her folks contacted my parents or simply remained in the dark as to why I was in Indiana. I did not stay there that night but continued on and I distinctly remember reaching St Louis Missouri and passing the archway on that fateful day JFK was shot. I remember the newspaper trucks going around dropping bundles of newspapers off at newsstands and shouting the news to the various people on the sidewalks. I was dumbfounded by this tragedy. I was also low on money and my next concern was how do I get money.

BRING A TRAILER GNX 005 SELLS FOR $175,000 -

This car belonged to a customer of mine. His GNX had 1,712 actual miles and reportedly was the first GNX sold to the public. I can remember when I thought $75,000 was a high price to pay for a GNX. Wish I had kept just one of the dozen I sold.



PRICES ON PARTS AND SUPPLIES CONTINUE TO SKYROCKET -

We just got a part from another vendor that has been out of stock for 3 months. We just got them in and our cost for them equals what we had them listed for on our website! I got the 1964 GTO horn rings made for the 1964 GTO optional plastic wood wheel. It's a 3 inch diameter ring made in copper and chrome plated. My supplier says 2 years ago a 3 ft by 8 ft sheet of the copper was $500. The price this week is $2,500 for the same sheet! I go almost every week to this huge local flea market. Some vendors are actually selling used plywood! The big theft problem is hitting companies with a fleet of cars or small trucks. Clever thieves are removing the catalytic converters and cashing them in for its mineral value. This is a huge expense for owners to replace especially since I doubt they are simply unbolting them from the underside of the cars and trucks.

We discovered that FedEx will not forward any packages that are sent to the old PO Box or to our old address in Plumsteadville. Instead they deliver the packages to the old address and leave them outside or send them back to the shipper. They refuse to forward and say that we should notify the shipper. In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.

Here is the information on our credits for cores.

STEERING WHEEL CORES. Currently we need good 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering cores. They must be straight and not have rusted spokes. We will issue a Letter of Credit of $100 for each acceptable core. You must email me [email protected] a photo first to make sure the steering wheel is acceptable.

POWERMASTER BRAKE UNITS. Currently, we are accepting powermaster brake units. We give a $150 Letter of Credit for each acceptable core. If you include the turbo pedal, add $10. You would receive a $160 Letter of Credit. To avoid having your core not accepted, you MUST first email me a photo of the core you plan to send in - [email protected] - We will NOT accept any cores that have severe rust issues or have been disassembled. Core must have the brake switch and brake bowl reservoir. Too many of the cores we have been getting are in such terrible shape they are worthless to us.

TURBO CORES must be the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal stock turbo. They must be complete. We will issue you a $175 Letter of Credit for each acceptable core. We need cores now.

MASS AIR FLOW SENSORS must be the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal sensors. They can not be cracked or broken. Each acceptable unit is worth a letter of credit of $40 each. We need cores now!

If you ship to us, the post office is the cheapest method. Pack the item(s) with a note with your name, address and phone number.

Ads can be from any individual or company. It needs to be automotive related, meaning it does not need to be specifically Turbo Regal related. It can be for something for sale or something wanted.

Maximum number of words is 125 words, which is about 7 to 9 lines of copy. No photos. You can list a website. We recommend you state your name, phone number or email, a price, and your location in your ad.

The cost for 2 consecutive weeks is $25. The cost for 4 consecutive weeks is $40. You save $10 with the 4-week plan. No changes can be made to your existing running ad. You can only run one ad at any given time. We will have a code system at the end of your ad, so we will know what week number your ad is to run 2 or 4 weeks.

It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.
We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US –

1984-1987 Regal -
LOCK PILLAR REINFORCEMENT PLATES (2) IN STOCK FOR IMMEDIATE DELIVERY

This 2mm thick spacer is designed to give the door pin more support.

If you look at the area where the striker is attached, more than likely you will see hairline cracks. They are spot welds that hold a cage nut so you can attach the door striker. These spot welds tend to take the place of one of the 2mm spacers and at the same time give the door striker more support.

This lock pillar reinforcement plate is shaped to look as if it came on the car from the factory. The reinforcement plate measures approximately 4″ x 5″, comes powder-coated glossy black for a lasting finish (glossy black will blend with most dark colors doors and all the Grand Nationals), and are sold as a pair. Plates are easy to install.

It’s interesting to note that GM actually had a recall on another Buick model, the Somerset, back in 1985 for having a similar problem. Their solution at the time was similar to these reinforcement plates.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
AFTERMARKET EPA CERTIFIED LOW RESTRICTIVE STOCK CATALYTIC CONVERTER

Many owners may want to replace the original pancake-style restrictive catalytic converter. This is a unique catalytic converter with the proper custom-made 4-bolt flange at the back end. The overall length is 18 inches. This is a direct bolt in replacement and similar to the one we offered over 20 years ago. This only works with the stock 2-1/2 inch diameter downpipe.

It will bolt up to the stock exhaust or to the Pypes Dual Exhaust system, Part #6996, we sell.

Original catalytic converters can easily become clogged over a long period of time. They are also a lot more restrictive due to its pancake style. Some states have very strict laws regarding emissions equipment, even on older cars.

This catalytic converter also can lower any drone sound the current mufflers may make.

We offer this low restrictive catalytic converter, which weighs less than 8 pounds and is EPA certified! It is not a universal converter, but one with the correct 4-bolt flange on the one end that will directly bolt into your Turbo Regal.

With the amount of heat turbo cars develop, the converter can begin to break down internally and clog the exhaust system.

The EPA rules dictate that replacement catalytic converters must go in the same location as the original converter. This unit bolts into that same area and has the same mounting flange.

This catalytic converter comes complete with the 4-bolt exhaust flange. This 4-bolt flange is very unique to these cars as no other G-body application has this style flange. We also offer the 4-bolt flange, Part #7947, by itself for those of you that may want to get a test pipe made for off road use only.

Another excellent replacement for any exhaust restoration.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.



NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again.
Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.


IN CLOSING -

Remember the weekly Inner Circle always goes out at 3 pm eastern time so subscribers all have the same equal chance on the Rare Parts. All our parts generally are priced to sell and below what others offer. Also our used items are exactly as described. Emails are acknowledged in the order we receive them regardless of when I respond as I am not always by a computer and I only use a flip phone. It's best to email as soon as possible as many of our items sell within the first hour! Do not call the office on the listed Rare Parts as you could lose out by someone beating you with an email.
