Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members - 05-05-10
LOTS OF IMPORTANT NEWS THIS WEEK -
A SAD WEEK FOR US -
My Dad, Salem Kirban, has gone to be with the Lord. We got the phone call at 3:25 am last Thursday morning from Hospice. I had planned to try and see him later that same day, but it was not to be.
This month has been extremely difficult for us, losing our good friend Molly and my Dad.
Photo 1 - This is a photo on the left shows my Dad back in the 1970s at one of the Churches wearing his trademark red tie. The red tie with the dark blue suit was his trademark when he would go on his speaking trips in various churches around the country. I traveled with him over 20,000 miles a year for probably ten years.
The photos on the right show Dad when he appeared on two TV shows in the 1970s and 1980s. He would be interviewed about the popular books he had written at the time. The lower photo even shows some of his books as a backdrop; Your Last Goodbye, Guide to Survival, 666, and I Predict. The books Guide to Survival and 666 became half-million sellers.
I can't believe he is gone. My parents were married for almost 64 years, Although it's sad, my Mom, who suffers memory problems due to dementia, does not realize he is not at home. We are planning a Memorial Service on May 22nd to celebrate his life.
Photo 2 - Shows a picture of the back end of my Ford Pick up truck that Dad took from the windshield of the truck he was riding in dated September 1974. This was back when I would be on the road with my Dad and his associate Bob Conner about 20,000 miles each year. My Dad penned the poem and mounted this picture as a gift for me back then.
The poem reads -
We travel on Life's highway
And view the country scene
The roads are wide and straight
The landscape so serene.
But sometimes dark clouds gather
And cast their shadows of fear
The roads are winding and narrow
And the winds are so severe.
The rain in torrents shower
And my life is tossed to and fro
The road that was wide seems fading
And I flounder not knowing where to go.
But my wheels hug the road marked Heaven
Though the winds of the world slow me down
I press on through the storms of Life's highway
Press on to God's Heavenly Crown!
Love, Dad September 1974
If you are interested in his life, here is the obituary.

AFTERMARKET LOW PROFILE V6 BLACK CRINKLE FINISH
VALVE COVERS (2) KIT
Made by TA Performance, these aluminum machined valve covers feature the Power Six logo and the word "BUICK" machined into the top of each valve cover.
These valve covers fit all stock 1984-1987 Turbo Regals 3.8 V6 engines. Covers are specifically designed to clear roller rockers and stock rockers on all stock and TA Performance cylinder heads, while providing plenty of clearance to the AC box on the passenger's side of the engine.
Kit comes with 8 new allen head bolts, 2 new grommets for the valve covers and 2 new K&N breathers.
When adding oil, you simply remove one of the K&N breathers on either valve cover.
NOTE - These valve covers will NOT fit 198 or 225 V6 engines or the Stage 2 Buick heads. In addition to fitting the stock heads, these will also fit the TA Performance cylinder heads.
NOTE - You would need to purchase a pair of valve cover gaskets (KPP #7060). These machined valve covers do have a lip to keep the valve cover gaskets in place.
An excellent upgrade to replace the plain aluminum valve covers on any 1984-1987 Turbo Regal.

GOOD NEWS ON ANOTHER NEW PART IN THE WORKS -
One of the parts in the works for late spring delivery is the factory-style HEADERS for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. We expect to also have the driver's side alone available as well. They will be made from 409 stainless. As delivery time draws closer, we will have a special introductory price to determine initial sales response.
We have recently been informed that the mounting flange will be changed to accept the various style cylinder heads.
Watch for updates on this project.
ALWAYS IN A BUYING POSITION WORKS -
Got any Turbo parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - firstname.lastname@example.org -
Also we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.
GM PARTS UPDATE -
It appears that the GM supply of the factory 1986-1987 GM factory original molded boost line kits are dwindling and may already have disappeared from GM's warehouses inventory. We currently have a decent supply of them.
This is a very critical part, for any 1986-1987 Turbo Regal, since it is needed to control boost. They have 3 specially formed hoses with a special size diameter T in between two of the molded hoses. These also have the GM wording on them.
Over a period of time, heat can cause the hoses to swell and crack. While they last, we have them available for $44.95 plus shipping, Part #6644. Supplies are limited.
Here is a link to the Boost Line Kit on our web site -
KIRBAN PERFORMANCE CLOSE-OUT PARTS -
We have the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal - GM Air Flow Duct (from turbo to MAF sensor), Part #6536 in stock for $61.95. Just a few left now.
We still have a few brand new GM right hand side marker lights with the blackout package. This is the marker light that attaches to the side of the headlight bezels. Price is $61.95 plus shipping.
If you are interested in any of these parts, you must call our office to purchase it. Some of these close out items are just about gone from the GM parts system.

INFORMATION ON A GOOD CAUSE - CANCER WALK -
NOTE - THANKS to those who have already contributed or plan to contribute to this great cause. We've heard from readers who have had Breast Cancer affect their immediate family. Thanks so much.
Our daughter-in-law Carrie has committed to a 60-mile, 3-day walk in October to raise money for Cancer research. Many of you have met her at our events. She needs to have $2300 raised by July 1st. If you would like to help with this fundraiser for a good cause, here is the information and a message from Carrie.
Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ Walk - Carrie Kirban
I have taken on an incredible challenge. On October 15-17, 2010, I'll be walking 60 miles over the course of three days, camping out at night with thousands of other women and men taking this journey with me. I have committed to raise $2300 to be able to participate in the walk. The money I need to raise goes to cancer research and I pay for my expenses separately.
It's for an event called the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™. Net proceeds from the Komen 3-Day for the Cure are invested in community-based breast health programs and breast cancer research.
You never know who this disease will strike next. My prayers go out to all of my friends and family that have been affected with this disease. Let's find a Cure! To make a donation, go to - The3Day.org - Click on Donate and search for my personal fundraising page under Carrie Kirban.

MEMORIES OF MY YOUTH - PART 5
As expected, that fall of 1965 I received my draft notice. I made a quick decision to enlist in the Army for three years on the "buddy" program. At the time, that was the Army's way of telling recruits that if you join with someone you know, you get to go through basic training with them. So, I enlisted it with a classmate from high school and another guy I had met at summer school.
I was inducted at the Philadelphia Induction Center, and we went to Forth Gordon, Georgia by train. By joining late in the fall, we were in a group where the 8 weeks of basic training fell over Christmas.
In basic training camp, one job was to pick up cigarette butts. Since I was a non-smoker, I hated picking up cigarette butts every morning before breakfast, especially at that ungodly hour of 5:30 am.
I quickly learned it paid to volunteer for things. By doing so, I became a driver several days a week. I would sometimes drive one of the Captains around in a Jeep. I would also drive a troop carrying 2-1/2 ton truck. Fortunately, this actually got me out of that long march with a full pack our group had to do. I got to bring them out the lunch meals that day in the truck!
We got a break for Christmas and was told to NOT come back with your personal car, because after basic, you would not get a break before attending the next round of training.
Naturally, I did not listen and I drove back down with my two buddies in my 1953 Studebaker once the holidays were over. I parked it in one of those lots in nearby Augusta, Georgia.
From Fort Gordon, I was shipped off to Forth Huachuca located near Sierra Vista, Arizona for clerk typist training. My car sat for months in the paid parking lot in Augusta, Georgia, which was just outside Fort Gordon.
While I was at Forth Huachuca, my Dad surprised me and planned a trip to Georgia. He was able to drive my Studebaker back home for me. As an added bonus, he even paid the several months parking storage bill I had accumulated. That nice gesture pales in comparison to what he would later pull off when I was sent to Vietnam.
More next week!
Photo 4 - The top photo shows me alongside the 1953 Studebaker I purchased for a mere $40. Behind it is my 1950 Ford. The bottom photo shows me to the far left, Doug Stillwell in the center and Richard Busillo on the far right. We were getting ready to drive back down to Forth Gordon, Georgia after the Christmas break. You can just barely see the driver's side fender and headlight are misaligned due to an accident by the previous owner.
It's been a hard month of loss and change. We are looking forward to a better year to come. Thanks for your kind messages throughout this time.
