BUICK REGAL PACE CAR - Part 2 -
As is the custom for any car manufacturer chosen to supply the Pace Car(s) for the Indianapolis 500, they always produce several related items to sell.
In my private collection, I had a few items related to the 1981 Buick Regal Pace Car, plus a key fob from the 1975 Buick Pace Car.
PHOTO 1 - Shows a stainless letter opener (9-1/4") with the Indy 500 Pace Car Buick logo on the handle portion.
We also show two of the dash numbered plates (3-1/2" x 1-1/4"). One plate has no number and the other is #147. They are brand new, never used.
The cloth patch (2-3/4" diameter) came on a silver jacket that Buick did regarding the Pace Car for 1981. I am sure Buick also offered other items related to the 1981 Pace Car that year as well. The letter opener is probably quite rare.
PHOTO 2 - Shows the key fob I have, which was part of the Buick Pace Car memorabilia for Buicks involvement in 1975. The front of the white plastic key fob it says, OFFICIAL INDIANAPOLIS 500 PACE CAR BUICK 1975" in red and blue. On the back is the outline of the Hawk bird in blue with the words "Free Spirit" in red.
Prior to Buick having the Indy 500 Pace Car duties two years in a row in 1975 and 1976, it was Packard in 1916 and 1917 that also had the duties two years in a row!
PHOTO 3 - Shows a black and white 8" x 10" photo of the 1976 Buick Indy 500 Pace Car. Back then, the T-Tops were actually produced by Hurst and were called "Hurst/Hatches."
The inset photo is of Marty Robbins, the country singer who also raced NASCAR.
PHOTO 4 - Shows the cover of Motor Trend's June 1976 issue with the Buick 1976 Indianapolis Pace Car on the cover.
If you "Google" Buick Indianapolis Pace Cars on the internet, you can find more information and photos regarding the ones we have touched on in this Inner Circle. In case you're wondering, I think it is the Corvette model that has Paced the Indianapolis 500 the most - ten times.
SAD NEWS -
MAGNA just lost one of its finest members. Bill Berger (AKA "timevacuum" on the forums) passed away Sunday, May 16th from cancer. He was just 48 years young.
We received an email from Jim Chaudrue and he mentioned…
"Bill was at your Kirban Performance Open House with his car. He wouldn't miss it for the world. Nothing he loved more then being around the Buick guys. We all met at that K-Mart on Street road to caravan up to your open house and he was the first car there waiting. He was the guy who had that beautiful hot air silver astro roof car. It was a 1985 T-Type w/CF5 Astroroof and Limited interior. I have a link below to him and his car. He painted the car in his driveway in a portable garage and it looked like a 20K paint job. He rebuilt the transmission in his garage with just some books on how to do it, some parts, and it shifted like no other. He took his air hot car modified it and had it running 13.2@101 MPH 1.8 60 foot on alky. He was an engineer and a very amazing human and one of the best people you would ever meet with a heart of gold.
He was at EVERY Kirban's Open House for years. Was the nicest guy you could have ever met. Here is a link to some photos -

Here is another link we have on turbobuicks.com about more info on him and an on-line obituary.
We also have this link going. -
When someone passes everyone says how great they were but with Bill it was all true. He was the best friend you could ever have. MAGNA will miss him dearly.
Jim Chaudrue, PA REP MAGNA"
Kirban Performance Products sends our sincere condolences out to the Magna members on the loss of their racing buddy.

GOOD NEWS ON ANOTHER NEW PART IN THE WORKS -
One of the parts in the works for late spring delivery is the factory-style HEADERS for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. We expect to also have the driver's side alone available as well. They will be made from 409 stainless. As delivery time draws closer, we will have a special introductory price to determine initial sales response.
We have recently been informed that the mounting flange will be changed to accept the various style cylinder heads.
Watch for updates on this project.
ALWAYS IN A BUYING POSITION WORKS -
Got any Turbo parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - firstname.lastname@example.org -
Also we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.
GM PARTS UPDATE -
It appears that the GM supply of the factory 1986-1987 GM factory original molded boost line kits are dwindling and may already have disappeared from GM's warehouses inventory. We currently have a decent supply of them.
This is a very critical part, for any 1986-1987 Turbo Regal, since it is needed to control boost. They have 3 specially formed hoses with a special size diameter T in between two of the molded hoses. These also have the GM wording on them.
Over a period of time, heat can cause the hoses to swell and crack. While they last, we have them available for $44.95 plus shipping, Part #6644. Supplies are limited.

KIRBAN PERFORMANCE CLOSE-OUT PARTS -
We have the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal - GM Air Flow Duct (from turbo to MAF sensor), Part #6536 in stock for $61.95. Just a few left now.
We still have a few brand new GM right hand side marker lights with the blackout package. This is the marker light that attaches to the side of the headlight bezels. Price is $61.95 plus shipping.
If you are interested in any of these parts, you must call our office to purchase it. Some of these close out items are just about gone from the GM parts system.

INFORMATION ON A GOOD CAUSE - CANCER WALK -
NOTE - THANKS to those who have already contributed or plan to contribute to this great cause. We've heard from readers who have had Breast Cancer affect their immediate family. Thanks so much.
Our daughter-in-law Carrie has committed to a 60-mile, 3-day walk in October to raise money for Cancer research. Many of you have met her at our events. She needs to have $2300 raised by July 1st. If you would like to help with this fundraiser for a good cause, here is the information and a message from Carrie.
Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™ Walk - Carrie Kirban
I have taken on an incredible challenge. On October 15-17, 2010, I'll be walking 60 miles over the course of three days, camping out at night with thousands of other women and men taking this journey with me. I have committed to raise $2300 to be able to participate in the walk. The money I need to raise goes to cancer research and I pay for my expenses separately.
It's for an event called the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure™. Net proceeds from the Komen 3-Day for the Cure are invested in community-based breast health programs and breast cancer research.
You never know who this disease will strike next. My prayers go out to all of my friends and family that have been affected with this disease. Let's find a Cure! To make a donation, go to - The3Day.org - Click on Donate and search for my personal fundraising page under Carrie Kirban.
