11-10-10 Inner Circle

Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members - 11-10-10

In last week's Inner Circle we showed the 1987 Buick Exterior Color brochure that was part of the mini booklets that came in the salesman's packets.

As I stated back then, I have no idea what years Buick put their sales information in this format for the sales staff.

They definitely did it for the 1984 through 1987 model years. The reason I know this is because I have one for each year (1984-1987) in the original vinyl holder.

If you are familiar with the larger 3-ring binder Buick Dealer Albums (measuring approximately 11-1/4" x 11-1/2" and 3" thick), you can see how this small holder is very similar. Each year's holder matches in color and design to the larger 3-ring Buick Dealer Album.

For some reason these small salesman-size packets are extremely difficult to find, even from major literature vendors. This seems strange to me since each Buick dealership would have more of these available to the sales staff than the full-size Dealer Albums. Even if you do find one, they are seldom complete. In addition to having the exterior colors and wheels brochure, the other main booklet would be the Price Directory.

PHOTO 1 - Shows (from left to right) the 1987 Buick Marketing Manual (also referred to as the Buick Dealer Album), the 1987 Buick salesman's vinyl holder, and the 1987 Buick Price Directory. You can clearly see how they match in design, color and format.

PHOTO 2 - Shows the vinyl salesman holder for the 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987 Buicks from my personal collection, measuring approximately 4-3/8" x 8". You can see how the design and color was different each year. This would match the full-size Dealer Album for each particular year.

PHOTO 3 - From the individual salesman's packet we have pictured the Buick Price Directory for 1984-1985-1986-1987, each measuring approximately 3-3/4" x 6-3/8". You can see for the years 1985 and 1986 they actually list all the various Buick models on the cover. It is the Price Directory that gives you the most information. Not only does it list every available option for every Buick model, but it also gives the order code and the actual cost. It is this order code that would appear on your trunk ID label since it's related to the options.

In the first 24 hours of last week's Inner Circle going out, we had our 3 winners. They were Bryan Miller, Richard Mukalian, and Will Quinn, in that order.

The correct answer for the car make and model is "BMW 507."

Even Elvis had one when he was stationed in Germany in the 1950s. He later brought it stateside and had a Ford V8 engine put in it. Production of the 507 was limited to 252 total.

It is said about 202 of the 507s, still exist today. BMW reportedly lost money on every one built. Production ran from 1956 to 1959.

They were very unique in several ways. The body was all hand formed aluminum and basically one piece that was welded together making each car a little different. For example, the hardtop was an option however, if you wanted a hardtop you had to order it when the car was being made since each hardtop had to be custom fitted to a particular car. In other words, a hardtop from another VIN number 507 will not fit on a different 507.

This particular 507 belongs to a long-time friend of mine and has been sitting about 25-30 years now.

When I was first dating my wife Eileen, my friend would lend us this car to go out once in awhile. Even in the late 1960s, I knew this car was extremely rare. But none of us had any idea just how valuable these 507 BMWs would become.

One 507 model sold at an auction in London back in 2007 for $904,000. Even in today's economy, they will fetch over $500,000 or more, depending on condition. In 1966 my friend paid $4,500 for it, which was big money then.

The most popular wrong answer for the contest was the Sunbeam Tiger. The Sunbeam Tiger was a smaller car and the taillights were vertical, not horizontal.

PHOTO 4 - Shows an illustration of a BMW 507. The car has a timeless design and is now over 50 years old!

Custom-Airbrushed "TRUE FIRE" Flames
Microsoft® Wireless Mobile Mouse Model 3500

Today almost everyone has a computer, whether it's a desktop, or a laptop, or a notebook style. Now, you can have a custom airbrushed mouse to go with your computer. Since it is so unique, it makes a great Christmas or birthday gift.

We start with a brand new Microsoft® Wireless Mobile Mouse Model 3500, which retails for $29.95. These are compatible with both PC or Mac computers.

The center shell of the mouse is carefully removed, then prepped, scuffed, and cleaned. Then, using an automotive basecoat, 2 coats of black paint are applied. Then a unique flame design is custom air brushed, layer after layer. Flames are first painted with white base coat, followed by a transparent candy yellow and orange to give it a unique deep 3-dimensional appearance. Once dry, 2 coats of high-quality automotive urethane clear are applied as a final coating. The end result is a surface as smooth as glass.

Each mouse is carefully inserted into the original Microsoft® packaging. The package comes with a battery, USB connector, and directions to download the appropriate mouse software.

The quality and workmanship is excellent. Unfortunately, since there is such a fine shiny finish, it is difficult to photograph, so the picture of the "True Fire" flames mouse on our website does not do it justice.

The popularity of similar flames designs in the marketplace is just as evident today as it was years ago. Flame designs can still be seen on many show cars. A unique touch to compliment your computer. Makes an excellent gift for any PC or Mac user.

Microsoft® Mouse Details - For Windows®-based PC and Mac, BlueTrack Technology™, Plug-And-Go Nano Transceiver (leave it plugged in or stow it in the mouse), 8-Month Battery Life, ON/OF Switch, Comfortable in Either Hand, and 3-Year Warranty.

1986-1987 Turbo Regal & 1989 Turbo Trans Am -

Another low cost maintenance item... In researching this item, we found the PCV valve used on the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals is unique for those years only. This makes it difficult to buy this PCV valve over the counter at most auto parts stores.

With the high levels of boost associated with the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal, this is a nice upgrade to replace the original PCV valve. It is made by RJC Racing.

This new PCV valve is machined from billet brass hex stock. It replaces the stock PCV valve and is 100% interchangeable with the factory PCV grommet and the factory vacuum hose currently in your system.

It opens in less than 1 inch of vacuum and is rated over 2,000 psi pressure strength. Its self-lubricating viton seals will last forever and will never need replacing.

The Buick Owner's Manual recommends the PCV valve be replaced every 30,000 miles or if you notice it is clogged. Because it's so important for these motors to breathe properly and the cost of this items is so reasonable, we recommend you replace the PCV valve with this heavy-duty PCV valve, which will never need to be replaced.

85 mph SPEEDOMETERS Recalibrated to 145 mph -

If you are sending us your analog 85 speedometer to be recalibrated (Part #6810), do NOT send us the entire dash cluster. All we need is the metal faceplate attached to the actual speedometer unit. Just sending it this way makes for less of a chance of anything getting broken or us having to remove any additional parts from the cluster. If you are not sure, just call our office before taking it out of your car.

We receive many powermaster brake units to be rebuilt. Cardone, the company that rebuilds these units, will ONLY warranty their original brake units. Returned units MUST be complete as originally sent to you, including the brake bowl.

It's important to remember Cardone (who rebuilds them for us and many other sources), is in the "rebuilding" business, and NOT the restoration business. The powermaster brake units are fully tested and cleaned prior to re-assembly. Once done, the units look good but they will not look like brand new or restored new units.

So, if you are purchasing a unit from us, it will be a rebuilt unit, not restored.

If you are having a unit replaced through warranty, you will receive your exact unit back. Once Cardone verifies it is one of their original units, it will be rebuilt and sent to us, then we will return it to you.

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

Because of requests, we recently had a small run of the correct length grey 1984-1985 Turbo Regal spark plug wires. They are in stock. We have 8 sets available at $50 per set plus $8 shipping. You must contact our office directly to be assured of getting one of these 6 sets. We have no plans to have these run again. To order, call - 215-766-1611 x 0.

Got any turbo parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - [email protected] -

Also, we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.

The 2011 events will be posted at the beginning of next year 2011.
