6-22-11 Inner Circle

Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members - 06-22-2011

While I was away at a picnic and a car show Saturday, our son Darrell picked up a chain saw and carved our last name in this 16-foot tree stump we had in the front of our property. It is in the perfect position to see as you come up the curved driveway. He simply eyed up the stacked letters and spray painted a general guide to follow. He had never done anything like this before.

When I got home, it was dark. He met me on the driveway and pulled up to the carving as the headlight lit it up... it was very impressive. The next day he worked on the back side. He still has some touching up to do once he gets a smaller chainsaw, and we'll probably seal it with something, but the effect is awesome.

It is definitely one of a kind and should still be standing many years from now.

PHOTO 1 - Shows our son Darrell and granddaughter Devyn who worked the controls of his Skid Steer front-end loader so he could stand on it while he carved the tree stump. His arm would get tired from the weight of the 20" chain saw. The other photos show the various stages of him doing the actual carving. The last photo is the end result.

If you are planning to come to our Reunion Event on August 20th, you will get to see it in person.

This was an awesome Father's Day gift and one that can't be duplicated. I think he's glad our last name only contains six letters!

The Sunday before last, June 5th, I attended the GTOAA Eastern Regional Meet in northern New Jersey. The weather hampered the turn out, but the event brought out some fine examples of GTOs. Of course, I have many memories of the old GTOs since we started our business by selling nice ones in the late 1970s. We also sold used parts and had parts made similar to the format we do with the Turbo Buicks today.

It's been years since I've been to a GTO event and I had several people come up to me who recognized me. Some even attended our Reunion events at the airbase back in 1991-1992.

One vendor was there that had several unique dealership plaques and awards from an auction he attended. I noticed he had one print showing a pair of 1964 GTOs. I asked him about it and he said it was given as an award to Pontiac dealerships in 1964 and only 200 prints were made.

I told him he was right about the number of prints, but wrong as to when it was produced and by whom. I told him it was done sometime in the mid-1980s and our company had it commissioned. Naturally, he did not believe me. I said I could provide him with proof once I got home. For one thing, that license plate on the GTO in the print "A MOVER" is my license plate. I still use today on a 2000 Corvette. (It has also been on our 1964 GTO, 1967 Ram Air Firebird, 1987 Turbo Limited, and now on our 2000 Corvette).

Finally, after a few other people came up to him while I was talking to him, he realized that perhaps I was correct. I then said I would like to buy it since I don't think I have one of these prints in my collection. But since I did not have much cash on me, I offered to buy it if he took my company check. He agreed and I bought the framed print you see in the following photo.

PHOTO 2 - The picture on the left shows our original flyer when we introduced the 1964 GTO print in the spring of 1984 to our GTO customers. The top right photo shows the framed art print I purchased at the GTO show with our Corvette showing the license plate "A MOVER." If you look closely, you may be able to read the license plate on the front bumper of the print also says "A MOVER." A few years back, we did a T-shirt design, called "We Brake For Corvettes." It was an ash grey T-shirt and the car featured was a WE4. The artist that did this shirt for us is Paul Vilser lives in Indiana, and he owns a WE4. We had him use our license plate "A MOVER" as the tag on the back. The lower right photo in this group shows the back of the T-shirt design folded on top of our 2000 fixed roof Corvette coupe.

One side note - The individual we sold our 1967 Ram Air Firebird to over 25 years ago managed to get the same license "A MOVER" plate in Illinois.

Where we really made our mark in the GTO world is with the 1964-1965 GTO tailpipe splitters. These splitters are a very involved part to make. We have been selling them since 1980.

PHOTO 3 - The upper photo shows a close up of the GTO splitter on the right side of a 1965 GTO. The lower photo shows the portion you would see on the outside of the rear quarter panel. To a 1964-1965 GTO owner, it is one of the most popular options to install.

PHOTO 4 - Interesting story about the upper photo. You see a small plastic clear tube connected to the upper radiator hose. This is on a 1967 GTO. I talked to the owner who got it from a woman whose husband was given two 1967 GTOS when they were new. He has since passed away. He was an engineer for Union Carbide and worked with the Prestone Anti Freeze Division. He developed this clear tube that was spliced into the upper radiator hose. The idea was owners could visually see the condition of the antifreeze. This was his prototype. It was neat that the current owner retained it on the 1967 GTO. The lower photo shows a 15" x 8" Rally II wheel. We had these made in 4 different sizes back in the late 1980s. We also had the center caps produced as well.

We did see several GTOs with some of the parts on them we have had produced over the years. Parts such as date-coded plug wires, radiator shrouds, emergency brake handles and the Rally I wheels. It was a fun time.

I did email the person I bought the 1964 GTO print from a copy of the actual flyer and also a photo of the "A MOVER" license plate, so he knows I was telling him the truth.

KIRBAN REUNION EVENT - With Special Guest Linda Vaughn "Miss Hurst"
Saturday, August 20th, 2011 - 10 am - 3 pm - Rain or Shine

We are starting to get replies of people coming to the Kirban Reunion event. We've also heard from several that attended the very first one we had in 1988 at our old house! One person from South Carolina who came in 1988 with his 9-year-old son is coming back with his now 32-year-old son!

Also, Paul Castle has confirmed he is bringing his Silver Bullet Race car to this event. Many of you that attended my 60th Birthday Bash will remember this car as he gave Molly a blast down the street. If you missed coming to that event, you don't want to miss coming to this event. This is a unique opportunity to enjoy the day.

See Photo 1 in this issue as that will make a beautiful back drop for photos of your car with Linda Vaughn. A setting like no other!

We just received some of these high-quality center consoles. Here is the complete information about the 6 options. These will be listed with photos on our website within a couple days.

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -

Any of these unique custom-made center armrest consoles would make a great addition to your Turbo Regal interior. It gives the perfect area for the driver or passenger to rest their arm, convenient additional storage, along with two handy cup holders.

Consoles are available in two sizes. The "Full Size" consoles measure approximately 9-3/4" high x 8-1/2" wide x 19" long, and eliminates access to the factory console ashtray. The "Mini" consoles measure approximately 9-3/4" high x 8-1/2" wide x 14-1/2" long, and allows access to the console ashtray. Once seated on the factory console, it sits down 2-1/2", the perfect height to rest your arm.

We offer 6 options; all black, all grey, and two-tone grey and black (the top is grey and the sides are black) in BOTH sizes.

Orders will be dropped shipped from the manufacturer in Georgia.

No tools are required to install it, simply slip the console down over the factory console and slide it forward. It stays in position with a non-skid base. Going to a show? It can be removed in seconds for that original look. The factory storage compartment becomes a hidden compartment for storing valuables out of sight. This feature gives you two storage compartments.

Consoles are made in sturdy pressboard, then padded, then covered with an automotive grade vinyl in the various colors. Each console has two cup holders (holds two different size cups) trimmed in chrome.

These are high-quality units and are "Made in the USA."

It's a great useful addition to the interior.

NOTE - Since there are so many options, be sure to order the correct console.

Here is the link to this GNX listing on our website:

GNX #327 - For Sale

I am located in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I am the fourth owner. I purchased this GNX from a friend of mine in June 2005. He bought it in July 2000, from a fellow in Portland, Oregon. The original owner was from Boston, Massachusetts. I don't have the book or jacket that originally came with the car.

The present mileage is under 42,500. The GNX still has the original tires on the factory rims.

The GNX is mostly stock. It has a few aftermarket bolt-ons. I have most of the original parts. The only thing I don't have is the factory exhaust system. It currently has an ATR stainless steel exhaust system on it. The only modification that I had done to the car is the tint on the windows (5% on the back three windows, 20% on the sides). The GNX is lowered using dropped spindles and aftermarket springs and shocks. There is a Hurst roll control but it has never been used, at least not by me. There is a Clifford alarm with immobilizer installed. The GNX also has an aftermarket chip, fuel pressure regulator, fuel injectors, and spark plug wires.

If you're looking for a mint, showroom GNX, then this one is not for you. This GNX was a driver. I have always garage kept it, and I have never driven it in the winter time. I have been caught in the rain a few times though.

If you would like more information or pictures, please feel free to ask.

I am motivated to sell, but I am not desperate. Please, no trades. I also have a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer LT, 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible, 2006 Cadillac STS-V, and three 1993 GMC Typhoons. I don't need any more vehicles.

I realize that the NADA is not an end-all, be-all. I am only using them as a reference point. See this link: http://www.nadaguides.com/Classic-Cars/1987/Buick/Regal/2-Door-Coupe-GNX/Values.

My asking price of $49,900 is open to negotiation with serious buyers. Thank you for looking.

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

Got any turbo parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - [email protected]

2011 BUICK PERFORMANCE GROUP - JULY 29th - 31st, 2011 - HEBRON, OHIO -

The people mentioned have also contacted other retired Buick Engineers, including Mike Doble to have them attend. There will be displays and "tech" talks, so it should be very informative.
