8-3-11 Inner Circle

Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members - 08-03-2011

Pete Hoffman, Richard Clark and I went out to the Buick Performance Group event in Ohio last weekend, and had a great time in spite of the hot weather.

Without any doubt, I have never seen that many Turbo Trans Ams in one spot before. I am told 47 were on the show field, of which only one was the rare hardtop model.

The weather was hot, more so at this track since it offered no shade and most of the cars were parked on hot black top.

It was good to see a nice variety of T-Types and Turbo-Ts. There were some older GS Buicks, as well as a few LeSabre T-Types on the show field.

The most outstanding Turbo-T car was actually a 1987 Turbo-T Limited belonging to Jason Maxfield from Ontario, Canada. Every once in awhile, I would look over at Jason from our vendor spot. He would be wearing tight-fitting rubber gloves as he detailed his pride and joy. His car is one of the most option-loaded Limited Turbo Regals I have ever seen. I believe the car had 97 codes on the trunk ID label. I think the only option it lacks is the factory alarm. The car does have the WO2 black-out kit. Since it has the WO2 black-out kit, it would not have been possible to get the cornering lamps, opera lights, and the wide stainless chrome at the bottom of the car.

PHOTO 1 - The top photo shows part of the Turbo Trans Ams lined up at the 2011 BPG Nationals. The lower photo shows Jason Maxfield's rare Turbo-T Limited. It's a great color combination - dark blue exterior against a tan leather interior with the astro roof option.

PHOTO 2 - The photo on the right shows Jason Maxfield's Turbo-T Limited trunk ID label. Notice it carries Molly's signature from 2007. The top left photo highlights some impressive keepsakes from the original owner, Reggie Jackson or to New York Yankee fans, "Mr October." The baseball, bat and book were also autographed by Reggie Jackson. NOTE - Jason bought it from a later owner and knew it was Reggie Jackson's original Turbo-T Limited. Reggie Jackson actually grew up near where I grew up. The lower left photo shows part of the engine compartment. You can see the tied up engine block heater plug by the radiator cap.

PHOTO 3 - No car show event would be complete unless someone locked their keys in the car. This top photo shows the other use for a coat hanger, since Paul only had one set of keys with him, which at the time was in the ignition. The lower photo shows that the original owner of this car opted for a full-size matching T-Type spare tire wheel as well as the factory 9-piece trunk kit. The trunk kit even fit with the full-size.

I got the idea for the unique gift pictured in the next photo when my wife Eileen wanted the toilet seats replaced in our house. I never knew there were so many toilet seats available. I was amazed as prices ranged from $20 to $2,000. They even have quick-release seats, and ones that gradually go down rather than slam down!

PHOTO 4 - These photos show me (right) presenting the unique special gift to Richard Clark for his workshop toilet. We had arranged for John Barnes (who airbrushed the mural of the GNX on my pole building wall) to custom airbrush this unique gift. He took a new toilet seat and airbrushed the Grand National logo, GNX logo and Richard's DNA lab "Lodis" logo in the exact colors and font style. My son Darrell then clear coated it. Under the Lodis logo it reads, "TEST TANK - DNA TEST RESULTS IN TWO HOURS"

Richard got a kick out of this gift. Whenever you see Richard, you always see Jill his faithful dog. I think she's now 15 years old.

More coverage on the Buick Performance Group event in next week's Inner Circle.

With these cars getting older, we are now expanding our parts selection to include various sensors and relays. This will save you time trying to hunt them down in auto stores, only to find, in most cases, they would be a special order item. Usually if the auto store does not carry that certain brand, they aren't even able to order it. Unfortunately, it's getting harder to get you some of the parts you need to keep your Turbo Regal running.

1986-1987 Turbo Regal -

This aftermarket crank sensor consists of 3 parts: the bracket, a bolt, and the actual sensor.

If this sensor fails, it can cause your car to miss and, in some cases, not start.

Original AC Delco crank sensors are no longer available. Most auto stores would not stock this since it's unique to these cars.

Some suppliers do not sell it as a complete kit, which you may need to properly install it.

It's another item to keep on hand.

7327 - 1986-1987 Turbo Regal - Aftermarket Crank Sensor - $69.95

1986-1987 Turbo Regal -

These HI-LOW relays regulate the electric fan along with the larger relay located on the inner driver's side fender. (See Part #7310 - Reproduction Fan Delay Relay).

Fan operation is critical to keep your car running at the proper temperatures.

It's best to replace both at the same time.

Both relays are exactly the same. We offer a reduced price if you purchase 2 of these relays at the same time, Part #7340.

It's a good idea to keep these relay(s) on hand.

7339 - 1986-1987 Turbo Regal - Aftermarket HI-LOW RELAY - $54.95

7340 - 1986-1987 Turbo Regal - Aftermarket HI-LOW RELAYS (2) - $94 (Save $15.90)

Also, we have more Scanmasters and MAF Translators due in this week.

We still have a little over half the roll left. We do not have the black pallex material. In many cases, the original black material should be good enough to simply re-use and install the new gray pallex material. The black is a lot easier to match whereas the gray is something that can vary. Keep in mind, before we sell you any material, please email me your name and address so I can send you a sample. That way, you know the exact shade of gray material you would receive - [email protected]

You could hit the triple play! Our Reunion event Saturday August 20th, 10 am until 3 pm. Travel to nearby Perkasie for their "Under the Stars" event, which runs from 5 pm until 9:30 pm that same Saturday. Then Sunday on to Coopersburg Collector Car Show in nearby Coopersburg. That event draws 400-plus cars.

So, in the space of 2 days, you could hit 3 major car events all within 20 miles of each other and all 3 completely different formats. Ours is a Reunion non-judged event, Perkasie is held at night on the main streets in town, and Sunday is held at a beautiful park and is a judged event. We will be with Linda at the Coopersburg event.

At our Reunion event, we will have an array of various items you can purchase for Linda to sign and a limited number of custom-made Reunion plaques to mark this unique event.

This is a free event. All we ask you do is be sure to email me personally with the number of people attending in your group. This will help us figure out how many donuts and Reunion plaques to order. Email me - [email protected]

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

Got any turbo parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - [email protected]

Also, we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.

Also, we are getting a unique dash plaque designed to mark this special occasion. Although there is no registration fee, we will offer this special dash plaque for sale while supplies last to remember this special occasion with Linda Vaughn.

Linda has agreed to autograph your car at our event. The price for this is $100. We will make announcements during the event, so you can get your car to the proper area. She can autograph it where ever you request. Ideally, she could sign the core support, the inside of the trunk lid, or the glove box. This is a very rare opportunity to have this done.

Seems we get hit with one heat wave after another. Makes you wonder what they did back in the Walton's day. They were cutting all that wood, and you never saw so much as even a fan to cool them off.
