8-24-11 Inner Circle

Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members - 08-24-2011

The weather was absolutely "picture perfect," as the saying goes. That is one thing that has almost always worked in our favor, since we started to do these Kirban Reunion events back at our house in Furlong, PA in 1988. Bill Campbell, the Co-founder of Hurst-Campbell, was there.

That first event was followed by two more at the Johnsville Naval Airbase (1990 and 1991) in Warminster, PA. Molly, Molly Designs, attended both of those events.

The last major Reunion event we had was for my 60th birthday in 2007, which was a two-day event.

This August has been an unusual month of weather in our area. We have had the most rain on record for the month, which is normally very hot and dry! The forecast was iffy, with the possibility of thunderstorms. This may have kept some people away. Fortunately it stayed dry and hot.

Linda Vaughn was busy almost non-stop from 11 am until 3 pm signing various things for the people.

The car count for this Kirban Reunion event was only about 40-45 cars, with about 100+ people in attendance.

We had about 8 or 10 Turbo Buicks, including one couple that came down from Canada.

We had a wide variety of cars with several being "concours" quality. To get cars of this caliper for a non-judged event is quite an accomplishment.

The "CARS 2" 18-foot-wide banner was a huge hit, especially among the kids that came. We hung it on the back of the building.

Ironically, we even had a 1951 blue restored Hudson at our Reunion Event. The owner was a good friend of Paul Newman. Even though the Newman Hudson is not on this CARS 2 banner, it still provided a neat backdrop for this 1951 Hudson.

PHOTO 1 - The top photo shows the restored blue 1951 Hudson Coupe in front of the "CARS 2" banner. The other photos show the 2 gorgeous Hurst/Olds brought to the event by Tom and Desiree Kristoff, Kristoff's Classic Cars Restorations & Street Rods, Hatboro, PA. They have fully restored those two cars. The lower left photos shows their beautiful restored 1974 Hurst/Olds. The upper right photo shows Linda Vaughn's autograph on the trunk lid of that car. The lower right photo shows the restored 1979 Hurst/Olds that originally belonged to Linda Vaughn's mother, which has also been restored by Kristoff's Classic Cars. Our special thanks to Tom and Desiree for bringing these cars and their help during the event.

We had a unique treat for the Reunion attendees. Russ Vassallo (a Turbo Buick enthusiast) and Nancy baked a HURST cake, using a color copy of a Hurst decal I had given them. This was a real hit. The detail on the cake was exact and it was a delicious dessert after lunch.

PHOTO 2 - The photos show this specially made Hurst cake and Linda Vaughn, "Miss Hurst" just before she cut into it.

We were fortunate to have 3 or 4 original Hurst employees come to this Reunion event. It was a nice opportunity for them to renew old friendships.

PHOTO 3 - The Mustang in the top photo is just 1 of 7 produced. This is quite an impressive looking car, especially the front end. Behind it are those two Hurst Oldsmobiles. The lower left photo shows the display sign with information about this Mustang. The lower right photo shows one of our outside cats, Smokey, happy that the Kirban Reunion event was over!

PHOTO 4 - The top photo shows a 1965 GTO, which is probably as close to a 400-point car as you will ever see at a mixed event like this. The Hurst wheels alone represent several hundred hours of work making them shine. The center caps were all made from a solid block of billet material and the word "HURST" is raised letters. The wheels and trim rings are all original and a matched numbered set. The lower left shows a closeup of the front Hurst wheel. The lower right photo shows even the spare is a Hurst wheel.

Loren Hulber is the owner of this fine tri-power 4-speed GTO. You don’t see many GTOs this color, especially with the rare vinyl top option.

It was a very exhausting weekend.

The next day, Sunday, I went with Linda to the 35th Annual Coopersburg Collector Car Show. It's always a treat to see beautiful cars at well-organized events. We sure appreciate all the extra behind-the-scene preparation to stage a car show.

This coming Friday, Saturday, & Sunday (26th, 27th & 28th), we will be at the "Wheels of Time" event, which is held at the Macungie Memorial Park, 50 N. Poplar Street, Macungie, PA. We will be with Linda Vaughn, who is one of the special guests.

I am told Bruce Larson, of the famous USA-1 red, white and blue dragsters, will be there. Bruce also raced his first Top Fuel car in June of 1992 for Don Garlits when Garlits retired due to a detached retina. He also helped Don with his comeback year 2002. This event draws around 1,500 cars.

Watch for more in the next Inner Circle -

SPECIAL REQUEST - If you attended our Reunion and took some digital photos, we would appreciate any hi resolution jpgs of your good photos. We were so busy, we didn't have a chance to take many photos of the cars across the different properties. You can email them to Dennis - [email protected]

Our source is currently working on having the GNX window stickers available also. We expect to have information and pricing on our website later this month.

In the meantime if you do not have the factory invoice we recommend you contact - www.gmmediaachive.com - in order to secure your original invoice. That invoice tells you the original selling dealership, which is one of the key features you will want on your window sticker in order to be accurate. It will also list your options.

SPECIAL REQUEST - We still need borrow an original or get a good color photocopy of the 1984 and 1985 Turbo Regal window sticker. This will enable us to get a copy properly made for other Buick owners. Triple A Enterprises has the ability to match the font style GM used, so quality of the reproduction window stickers is very good. We will have all the info shortly, so we can offer this additional service to our customers.

We now have this proven alcohol injection system available. See information below.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -

This Alky alcohol injection system has been available for many years. It is by far the best method to increase boost levels using 91-octane fuel without the worry of detonation (destroying the engine).

This AC-109 kit includes everything you need to do an install on a 1986-1987 Turbo Regal, as seen in these photos.

It is helpful if you already have installed a knock gauge to monitor knock readings, a fuel pressure gauge to monitor fuel pressure, and a boost gauge to assist in setting up this system for activation.

The kit includes a heavy-duty pump featuring over 100-plus PSI to insure flow in any conditions. The unit will not rust.

Kit also includes a brand new OEM-style 3 bar MAP (manifold air pressure) sensor (stock is a 2 bar), an original OEM coolant overflow bottle that installs in the stock location, a pressure line filter which prevents contaminant's from clogging the nozzle assembly. The high-flow nozzle delivers atomized volume at the highest pressures. The small dash mounted controller makes it almost undetectable in your car.

All the wiring is heavy duty with shielding to prevent any kind of interference with vehicles electronics. Wire loom is included so the installation looks factory once completed.

All the parts are designed to last and is a proven product among 1986-1987 Turbo Regal owners.

This kit gives you peace of mind that enables you to run high levels of boost without the fear of detonation.

This is a progressive system design once again for 100% methanol. We can not stress enough the gains you get by going with a kit that's built to hold up to 100%.

The actual heavy-duty pump has a one-year warranty. All the other electronic components have a two-year warranty.

PRE-INSTALL CHECK LIST - Make sure the engine is in tune with no abnormalities. Abnormalities could mean it has a rod knock, spewing oil out of the breathers, or blowing steam out of the exhaust. Next, make sure there are no drivability issues; i.e. stumbles, runs rough or black smoke out the exhaust.

A great way to eliminate detonation with higher boost levels.

We just lined up rebuilt MAF sensors to go with the Translators stock MAF 3" hose size.

Here is the information on the MAF sensors. It will be on the website in the next few days.

If you want to order it, just call our office - 215-766-1611.

For the MAF Translator

This rebuilt AC Delco LS1 mass air flow sensor is for the stock 3" hose. We recommend it for use with the MAF Translator (Part #7326). This is the original AC Delco mass air flow sensor, as shown in the photo.

This rebuilt AC Delco unit requires no core. It has a 3-year warranty! The corresponding GM part number for this unit is #2225180303.

By upgrading to this later mass air flow sensor, coupled to the MAF Translator, it will provide better CFM and more dependability. This version will work with the stock MAF hose.

7342 - Rebuilt AC Delco LT1 Mass Air Flow Sensor - $129.95

Currently we have less than half of our roll left, as several customers have bought 2 and 3 sections of it to do several cars. So, if you have a 1985-1987 Grand National, you may want to get a sample of this material to see if it's something you want to have tucked away. Most of the pallex material you find today from companies sells for over $75 to $95 a yard.

We do NOT have the black pallex material. In many cases, the original black material should be good enough to simply re-use and install the new gray pallex material. The black is a lot easier to match whereas the gray is something that can vary. Keep in mind, before we sell you any material, please email me your name and address so I can send you a sample. That way, you know the exact shade of gray material you would receive - [email protected]

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

Got any turbo parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - [email protected]

Also, we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.

OCTOBER 19-22, 2011 - Beech Bend Raceway, Bowling Green, KY

The 31st Annual GS Nationals will be held October 19-22 in Bowling Green, KY. Last year the weather was just perfect with autumn colors greeting us on the beautiful drive there. The GS Nationals is by far the largest and longest running Buick musclecar event in the world. There will be many race classes, the usual big Friday Car Show, swap meet, Vendor's Row and even tech seminars.

For the turbo V-6 guys, John Gallina and crew will return once again with Kenny Duttweiler for even deeper blasts into the 6's, eclipsing last year's 6.85/204 mph pass! Hope to see all you hard-core Buick fans there to share the fun! No pre-registration is necessary.

We will be in attendance as a vendor. This event replaces the one that used to be held in May each year.

For more information, check out their website - http://www.gsnationals.com
