10-12-11 Inner Circle

Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members - 10-12-2011

In our 9-21-2011 Inner Circle in Photo 2 we pictured the letter that Molly Designs sent out on May 12th, 1988 to all the current GNX owners. At some later date, Molly then mailed out this flyer specifically promoting the GNX Buick clothing he had designed.

PHOTO 1 - Photos show the two-sided black and white flyer sent to GNX owners from Molly Designs. Of all the apparel featured on this flyer, it is the GNX jacket shown in the top far right in the photo on the left that garners the most interest and value today. The photo on the right shows the back of this same flyer. The GNX jacket is the first item listed and had a price of just $69.95 each. Molly also offered to personalize your GNX jacket, sweater and sport shirt with your name and/or GNX car number. This cost was $3.75 per name and $3.75 per car number. Molly even offered free freight on all orders, if it was placed by September 30th, 1988.

The backside of the flyer reads in part:

"Dear GNX owners:

Recently we sent you a letter asking for your GNX number, VIN number and jacket size. Enclosed with this letter was a self-addressed, stamped, reply postcard. To clear up any doubt in anyone's mind, Yes, we are the official supplier of motorsports clothing for Buick and will be sending a jacket and GNX book to all GNX owners. This book and jacket are free of charge, and will be shipped at no cost.

Many of you have asked if you might purchase additional jackets and other items bearing the GNX logo. In response to your many letter and calls, we have put together the enclosed clothing items exclusively for GNX owners. These items are offered to you on a limited time basis only, and may be ordered through the month of September.

If you would like your GNX number and/or name embroidered on any of these garments, please fill out the order form completely, and we will send your order within three weeks."

Some of our long-time customers may remember when we bought up Molly's remaining stock of GNX jackets. Most of the GNX jackets were sizes medium and small, and of course all sold back then through our monthly printed "Grand News" newsletter.

This next group of photos appears to be information that Buick sent out to its Buick dealers prior to production of the GNX.

PHOTO 2 - This first page refers to the Terms and Conditions concerning the GNX and listed exactly what ASC modifications would consist of. The list was made up of 12 modifications ranging from the rear suspension to listing the GNX badge in the grille. The list did not include the GNX emblem on the rear deck lid, which was probably an oversight or may not have been decided at the time this notice was printed.

The second photo appears to be a GNX Authorization sheet that had to be returned authorizing Buick to enter an order for a Buick Regal Grand National as specified and ship to ASC for modification. Dealers also had the option to not authorize Buick to enter this order. This appears to be the information that Buick Dealers had to submit and agree to in order to get a Buick Regal modified by ASC to make it a GNX.

PHOTO 3 - Along with the two letters shown in Photo 2, I had this letter that shows the vehicle option content for the 1987 Regal GNX. As many of you probably know, all the GNXs received the same factory options. The second photo shows an actual GNX Window Sticker. This lists all the same options with its corresponding codes, plus adds one unique code under the T codes listed as "T2L." It reads "Special Handling for GNX." This is the one unique code that would appear on a real GNX trunk ID label, also known as Service Parts identification (SPI) label. To my knowledge, this is the only unique code that would identify a real GNX on the SPI label.

We are in dire need of stock 1986-1987 Turbo Regal turbo cores! We will allow $100 credit for any complete 1986-1987 Turbo Regal turbo core. It does not need to have the inlet bell nor the wastegate actuator.

We also need badly 1986-1987 Turbo Regal original AC Delco factory mass air flow sensors. We allow a Letter of Credit of $25 for each one. They can be missing the screens. Unit cannot be cracked or busted.

We really need both of these cores so we can continue to offer the services of having rebuilt ones for other 1986-1987 Turbo Regal owners.

If you are attending the GS Nationals in Bowling Green, Kentucky, be sure to bring them with you as we will accept them there as well.

A person who I have dealt with in the past on several Turbo Regals has one he wants to move before winter sets in. His shop is located near the Philadelphia airport.

Car is an original 1986 Grand National with the factory astroroof option and 42,000 miles. It is pretty well loaded with digital dash, touch climate control, power antenna (works), power windows and locks, power seat, and concert sound. Car has been garaged kept. The body is super straight with good paint. Price is just under $15,500. If you are interested, email me personally - [email protected] There are not many original 1986 Grand Nationals around, especially with the desirable astroroof option.

We recently came across a company near us that works with a wide variety of vinyl-wrapped material. They mainly wrap entire cars and trucks with promotional graphics.

One of the new materials which has been vastly improved is the black 3M Scotchprint Wrap Film Series in Black Carbon Fiber.

One of the first projects I gave them last week was to cover several sets of the Buick stock steel hood shocks.

These shocks usually have printing on the outer shell or a sticker of some sort. Once wrapped in this distinctive black carbon fiber material, it gives the hood shock a real nice "rich" look.

We now have them available at a special introductory price until 4 pm Friday, October 25, 2011. We will also have them available at the GS Nationals. The special introductory price is just $39.95 per pair plus shipping. The regular price after October 28th will be $46.95 per pair.

THere is a link to these Black Carbon Fiber wrapped stock shocks on our website.

PHOTO 4 - Shows both a stock pair of hood shocks alongside a pair of ones that have the outer shell wrapped in the black carbon fiber material.

Here is complete information on these shocks:

1982-1987 BUICK REGAL (All Models)

We now carry unique black carbon fiber vinyl wrapped STOCK gas hood shocks to replace the weakened shocks, which may not hold the steel hood properly. These are a direct replacement at a very reasonable price, sold as pair.

Using a unique process, the outer shell of each new shock is vinyl wrapped using 3M™ Scotchprint® Wrap Film Series 1080 Black Carbon Fiber. It covers the unsightly wording that is printed on each shock. The material is durable and not affected by heat.

The final result is a gorgeous carbon fiber look to enhance the engine compartment.

Our first photo shows a pair of these shocks with a piece of the black carbon fiber wrap. The second photo shows the stock shocks at the top (notice the wording) and the black carbon fiber wrapped shocks at the bottom. Unfortunately, shocks are hard to photograph, but these really look great, especially in the sunlight.

NOTE - These are for the STOCK steel hood. They can NOT be used for a fiberglass hood!

NOTE - We also offer the plain 1982-1987 Buick Regal stock steel hood gas shocks (2), Part #6700.

Another nice under-the-hood dress-up item!

First time ever offered! A unique cartoon with the quote, "If I could just remember where this part goes..." featured in black and gray on this white polyester micro-fiber stretch fabric steering wheel cover. The printed area measures approximately 10" in diameter.

Its heavy-duty construction includes sewn-in, no-roll elastic, which surrounds the edge of the steering wheel making it a universal fit for any steering wheel. The cover is machine washable.

It's designed to simply stretch over your steering wheel whenever the car is in storage, parked in the sun or at a car show for a unique display. It takes only a few seconds to put it on or to remove it.

This fabric cover will shield the steering wheel against sun regardless of which window is exposed to the sunlight, it will keep the heat off your steering wheel, and protect it from sun damage. It will reduce surface heat by approximately 20-30 degrees.

Since it is fabric, it can be folded up to store in the glove box or under the seat.

It makes a great gift for any Buick Turbo Regal owner.

A great way to protect the leather-wrapped steering wheel when the car in not in use.

7344 - Cartoon Steering Wheel Cover - $19.95

This will be on display at our vendor spot in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

I recently found out that a Sunoco gas station located at Street Road and Davisville Road in nearby Warminster, PA has 100 proof unleaded octane at the pump. I was there last week and mixed a few gallons of this liquid gold with the standard 93 octane gas. The price was $7.49 per gallon. That's one reason to limit the amount to just a few gallons. It instantly made the Turbo-T run smoother, even at idle.

The weather was picture perfect beautiful! I even drove my 1987 white Turbo-T. The attendance was down from our previous Open Houses, probably because of the time of the year and conflicting with other events happening this same weekend.

A special thanks to Russ Vassallo and Nancy for their delicious homemade baked goodies for the raffle and John Follweiler for supplying the ice chests packed with sodas and bottled water.

We also want to thank Chuck Wesley from California who sent us 2 gorgeous high-dollar Porsche ball point pens (valued at $250 each) to use as special raffle items to raise funds for the Molly Memorial Education Fund for Molly's daughter Brooke. We used one of the Porsche pens for the raffle and auctioned off the other pen. All the money collected for the raffle and auction went to the Molly Memorial Education Fund

We did receive a color copy of a 1985 Turbo Regal window sticker, thanks to Brad Fairhurst.

We STILL need to borrow an original or get a good color photocopy of the 1984 Turbo Regal window sticker. This will enable us to get a copy properly made for other Buick owners. Triple A Enterprises has the ability to match the font style GM used, so quality of the reproduction window stickers is very good.

Currently we have less than half of our roll left, as several customers have bought 2 and 3 sections of it to do several cars. So, if you have a 1985-1987 Grand National, you may want to get a sample of this material to see if it's something you want to have tucked away. Most of the pallex material you find today from companies sells for over $75 to $95 a yard.

We do NOT have the black pallex material. In many cases, the original black material should be good enough to simply re-use and install the new gray pallex material. The black is a lot easier to match whereas the gray is something that can vary. Keep in mind, before we sell you any material, please email me your name and address so I can send you a sample. That way, you know the exact shade of gray material you would receive - [email protected]

Got any turbo parts you are not using? Why not cash them in for parts you need with a Letter of Credit. Simply email me a list - [email protected]

Also, we are still buying dead or partially dead 1984-1987 Turbo Regals under $4,000 that are within 250 to 350 miles of our location.

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

OCTOBER 19-22, 2011 - Beech Bend Raceway, Bowling Green, KY

The 31st Annual GS Nationals will be held October 19-22 in Bowling Green, KY. Last year the weather was just perfect with autumn colors greeting us on the beautiful drive there. The GS Nationals is by far the largest and longest running Buick musclecar event in the world. There will be many race classes, the usual big Friday Car Show, swap meet, Vendor's Row and even tech seminars.

For the turbo V-6 guys, John Gallina and crew will return once again with Kenny Duttweiler for even deeper blasts into the 6's, eclipsing last year's 6.85/204 mph pass! Hope to see all you hard-core Buick fans there to share the fun! No pre-registration is necessary.

We will be in attendance as a vendor. This event replaces the one that used to be held in May each year.

For more information, check out their website - http://www.gsnationals.com
