6-10-09 Inner Circle

Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 06-10-2009

Last week we explained the two different Broadcast Sheets that can be found in your Turbo Regal.

When these cars were new, each GM dealership received several Dealer Albums. These were large 3-ring binders with all the information for the entire model lineup... ordering info, photos, descriptions, etc. Each car line had its own particular Dealer Album. Each year had a different cover. Depending on the size of the dealership, most dealers only ordered and received a few for the entire new model year.

A more convenient booklet was the Salesman's pocket-size version.

This pocket size version had a matching brown color vinyl holder (4-1/4" x 8") to hold the 3 product information booklets and brochure. Although these were not as detailed as the larger Dealer Albums, they were convenient for the salesperson.

The "1987 BUICK EXTERIOR COLORS AND WHEELS" Guide depicted all the exterior and interior colors for the entire Buick lineup and what colors could be ordered on what Buick models. It also had wheel options illustrations. This multi-fold brochure measures 3-3/4" x 7-7/8", and opens to 22" x 8".

This pocket guide also came with the "FOCUS ON PRODUCT - 1987 PRODUCT INFORMATION" Guide which measures 3-3/4" x 7-1/2". It is an 80-page Product Information Guide that gave specifications and details, etc. on all the Buick models for that given year.

Perhaps the most important booklet in this handy pocket-size folder was the corresponding "1987 PRICE DIRECTORY BUICK" which measures 3-3/4" x 6-1/2". This price directory covered all the Buick models and the basic prices for every model. More importantly, it listed each available option with the match code and the manufacturer's suggested retail price for each option. This Price Directory was one of the few items that actually listed the codes with the suggested prices for each option.

For example - Under Regals (which included the Turbo models), there were four different radio choices in addition to a radio delete option. The prices ranged from $168 to $504 for the top-of-the-line "Graphic Equalizer, Cassette and ETR AM Stereo - FM stereo Radio with Seek and Scan, Auto Reverse with Search/Repeat and Clock." The ID code for this top of the line radio was UX1.

Unfortunately, this type of literature is becoming very hard to find. Besides the fact that any literature is now over 22-25 years old, a good bit of it was simply thrown away at the end of the model year. This would be especially true of these small Salesman's Guides.

Today much of the printed literature on new car models has been done away with since everything is now available on computer, saving both time and money. Now changes and updates can be done a lot quicker.

You can see pictures of these various booklets on our website under this week's Turbo Regal Inner Circle 06-10-2009.

FIRST PHOTO shows a 1987 Salesman's Packet - On the left is the brown vinyl fold-over pocketed holder that says, "1987 INFORMATION BUICK" on the cover. Next is the "1987 BUICK EXTERIOR COLORS AND WHEELS" Guide showing color chips and wheel illustrations. Next is the "FOCUS ON PRODUCT - 1987 PRODUCT INFORMATION" Guide showing all the parts and options. And on the far right - the "1987 PRICE DIRECTORY BUICK" showing order codes, descriptions and pricing.

SECOND & THIRD PHOTOS - Show both sides of an opened "1987 BUICK EXTERIOR COLORS AND WHEELS" Guide. We also show the other 2 booklets opened to interior pages.

On any of these close out items, you must call our office and talk to Christina personally to be assured of being able to purchase the item you want.

Remember, once these are gone, supplies are depleted for good.

1986-1987 Turbo Regal -

These three reproduction hoses (2", 2-1/2" and 2-5/8") are made from the same unique woven material and color as original GM intercooler hoses used on the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals.

The company that made them originally has made them for us, since GM discontinued the hoses. As far as we know, this is the only source in the U.S. to ever make this style hose.

Since more of these cars are being restored, this is a must-have part.

NOTE - Do not confuse these original-looking reproduction hoses with our stock-appearing heavy-duty (thicker) hoses upgrade, Part #7228.

Another great engine restoration item.

Intercooler Reproduction STOCK Hoses (3) Set $36.95 / set

ALL Cars and Trucks -
BATTERY BUTLER® - 12-Volt Automatic Battery Storage Charger

This Battery Butler® is the least expensive method to retain a full battery charge on any 12-volt system in a car or truck in storage.

It's compact, small enough that you could actually leave it under the hood when not in use in most applications.

It is designed for long-term use. You can leave it connected to a 12 volt battery indefinitely. This unit provides a safe, 1/2 amp regulated charge. It prevents the self-discharge of the battery while extending the life of rechargeable 12-volt batteries rated from 5 to 125 amp-hours.

It has a red light indicator that indicates power to the module and a green light indicator that indicates the battery is being charged properly.

Specifications: Unit measures only 1-1/2" square by 1" deep, 12 volt DC, Input voltage 13.5 volts DC (only for use on 12 volt batteries), 1/2 amp.

The Battery Butler® automatic battery storage charger is designed for the maintenance of wet or gel-cell batteries that are stored or used periodically in such vehicles as cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, motor homes, ATVs snowmobiles, farm equipment, etc. - anything that uses a 12-volt system.

Since this can be used on all vehicles, you might want to purchase more than one.

Another great item to use to maintain the battery while your car sits in the garage.

Battery Butler® - 12-Volt Automatic Battery Storage Charger $17.95

1986-1987 Turbo Regal -

These three hoses are made from the same woven material and color as original GM hoses, only these are thicker.

The two inlet pipe hoses are the same size for a nice snug fit. The smaller hose is for the turbo to intercooler.

This is a nice heavy-duty hoses upgrade for the engine compartment, while still retaining a factory original, stock appearance.

Another great engine restoration item.

NOTE - Do not confuse this heavy-duty set with the original-looking reproductions, Part #7233. Both versions look stock with the difference being the version described here is slightly thicker.

7228 - 1986-1987 Turbo Regal - Intercooler Stock-Appearing Heavy-Duty Hoses (3) Set $39.95 / set

1986-1987 Turbo Regal and 1989 Turbo Trans Am-

This reproduction flexible drain pipe is an exact reproduction of the original. One end will screw into the factory fitting located on the engine block.

This new drain pipe is made in the U.S.A. and is slightly more flexible than the original, which makes it easier to install. Comes complete with a new gasket.

Another great engine restoration item. These are in stock for immediate delivery.

7229 - 1986-1987 Turbo Regal and 1989 Turbo Trans Am -
Reproduction Turbo Oil Drain Pipe and Gasket $72.95

The GM black passenger's side marker light is no longer available from GM, GM Part #0919874.

This is the side marker light that was used on all the 1984-1986 T-Types and 1987 Turbo-Ts with black-out package, WE4, Grand Nationals and GNX. This is the right hand side only (passenger's side) marker light that attaches to the headlight bezel.

We have a few left.

Remember, these are brand new, still in the GM wrapper. Price is $69.95 and shipping.

We also have the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal - GM Air Flow Duct (from turbo to MAF sensor), Part #6536 in stock for $61.95.

I installed one over the weekend in my personal 1987 Turbo-T. It worked great. This system by far is one of the best to go with for the reasons noted below.

While researching this project, I hit upon another idea that involves having this same person develop another product for us at the same time. I have tested the prototype of this other product and it is really slick. It solves what is a very primitive system currently in all our 1984-1987 Turbo Regals.

I expect to have a production system installed in my car in about a week's time. At that point, my source will start making both this new part and the Touch and Start® systems.

I am really excited about this other item. It was a little tricky for him to develop but it works. Sorry, no more clues!

If you are a long-time customer, you may recall that we used to sell the "Touch and Go®" Automatic Ignition Cut-off System.

We sold hundreds of them from around 1992 until 1999. Matter of fact, at one of our Reunion events back in 1992, our son Darrell installed about 30 units in cars at the show.

Our new "Touch and Start®" system has all those great features.

First, only one wire in your car gets cut, then it is run in a series to the unit.

Second, no switch gets triggered.

Third, it sets automatically 30 seconds after you shut off your car. Nothing to remember.

Lastly, no siren. It does have a valet mode.

So, even on an all-original car, nothing is visible under the hood to distract from that original-car appearance. With no switch to trigger, it makes it difficult for a thief to figure out how to defeat the system.

This new unit will be based on the original design, only now everything internally will be digital. Since there has been great advancement in electronics, this newer design draws even less current and the control box is slightly smaller than the previous system.

We have a local source making them for us. The projected price should be around $79.95 each.

This new Touch and Start® system will work on virtually any car or truck that does not have an airbag or a computer chip in the ignition key. It is best suited for a vehicle that contains no other aftermarket electronic alarm system. The new Touch and Start® system will come with easy-to-follow directions specifically for the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals.
