Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 11-03-2021 -

Pictured below are four more photos that Bob sent me documenting when he was able to see the last Grand National built that he has had all these years. Remember prior to this “Holy Grail” Grand National being auctioned at the January Barrett Jackson auction we will be doing a contest to see who can guess closest to the “hammered price” it does. There is little doubt this Grand National will take the record for the highest price paid for a Grand National. I would expect to see various articles and promotions done to grab as much attention as possible prior to the actual auction. There is no doubt Bob will repeat a good return on his investment.

PHOTO 1 - The top left photo shows the entryway to the Pontiac plant which was the final assembly point for the Gbody cars. This is the reason the letter P is in every 17 digit VIN number. The top right photo shows several bodys that were unloaded from the Flint plant for final assembly at the Pontiac plant. The bottom left shows the actual body getting lowered to the frame. This is probably where the body bushings were installed leaving out the bottom 4 that we have always talked about. Also in some cases 6 were left out as I would find when I was buying and selling them in the 1990s.

The bottom right photo shows the build sheet attached to the windshield and two other small decals that the dealer would remove. The top one refers to the Flint plant and the bottom one says “Partners in Quality” Over the years on various other make and model cars I have owned I have seen similar decals. Ford, Cadillac, and Mercedes all have a similar decal attached somewhere on the windshield making a similar reference.

Last week we mentioned that upon initial start up at the final assembly point his Grand National did not start on the first attempt. We recently heard from a customer in New York Louise who purchased a 1987 Grand National in 1988 with 9,000 miles from the original owner. That seller told him the car would never start on the first try. Also once in a while his car for no reason would start to buck. It wasn’t until he had his mechanic who races cars himself was able to pinpoint the reason this would happen. Turns out one of the 99 wires coming out of the back of the computer was not tight. Now his Grand National starts on the first try every time! Louise now has 50,000 miles on his pride and joy. A customer of ours since the late 1980s.

This reminded me of the 1987 Turbo-T I purchased years ago out of South Carolina. I made this deal in the parking lot of the BMW plant. The car always had an initial stumble just off idle that the seller could never find the reason for. I bought the car and my mechanic was able to locate the issue. The cam sensor was installed 1 or 2 teeth off where it should be. Probably like that since the car was new. Sometimes the solution to the issue is something small. You just never know. You have to keep in mind the electronics in these cars were cutting edge compared to most GM cars during that time period. Besides the issues most of you are familiar with the powermaster being at the head of that list.

Again only subscribers can see the Rare Parts and prices. If you are not a subscriber simply email me direct [email protected] to join. It's free. We now have done over 700 weekly Inner Circle emails. A record that I am sure will stand a long time alongside the record of Turbo Regals and GNXs we have sold as a specific Turbo Regal vendor.

PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows all 3 real nice used original intercooler hoses, a used Buick grille emblem, an original NOS GM radiator overflow cap, and 2 NOS wastegate solenoid filters. The top right photo shows a used chrome front bumper which has the desirable aluminum reinforcement brace attached. The bottom left photo shows a very rare black powder coated 1986-1987 Turbo Regal catalytic converter hanger. The bottom right photo shows a glossy black powder coated hood safety catch and a stock original inlet pipe.

PHOTO 3 - The top left photo shows a 1986-1987 Turbo Regal radiator plate glossy black powder coated. The top right photo shows the latest Muscle Machines magazine. The bottom left shows an original 1986 and 1987 Buick Buyers Guide brochure. The bottom right photo shows a binder featuring copies of most of the magazine articles covering the GNX.

As more and more owners seek out ways to prove documentation we have put together two very handy spiral bound 5 ½ by 8 ½ booklets that virtually will decode most of the information about any 1984-1987 Turbo Regal. These booklets include breaking down and explaining the 17 digit VIN number, the basic cost for each option for each year 1984 through 1987 Turbo Regal, the code Buick assigned to each available option. Example most of these years you had 4 or 5 radio choices that will tell you which radio your car came with. Also included in this one booklet that runs 70 pages is virtually 95% of the explanation of the codes that are listed on the trunk ID label also known as the SPI label. While I was researching this project I found I had about 100 of these very small Bad To The Bone decals. We will also include 2 of these Bad To The Bone decals as well with each purchase.

The other booklet covers the GNX project from Proposal to Production. It is also spiral bound 5 ½ by 8 ½ and runs 40 pages. It covers virtually every letter between Buick and ASC. Also Molly letters about the GNX book and jacket. The GNX warranty. The test results on the 3 different GNX test cars they used for testing. This booklet provides almost all the information on the background of the GNX project. Both these spiral bound booklets can be found under the Rare Parts section.

PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows the original booklets from my personal collection that I put into the spiral bound 70-page booklet shown at the bottom of the photo. Also the two Bad To The Bone decals you will also receive. The top right photo shows both spiral bound booklets. The bottom left photo shows two pages from the 70-page 1984-1987 Buick Regal Price Directory and GM Production Options booklet. The bottom right photo shows (minus the lens) the perfect spot I found for the Bad To The Bone decal between the gas gauge and the tachometer/boost gauge plate on the analog dash cluster. That gauge cluster appears for sale under the Rare Parts section. The second decal is perfect to attach to the 70-page booklet.

Check our Rare Parts section if you are a subscriber you can see the Rare Parts section as sometimes get good used brake bowls that pressure test ok. Again these are original GM AC Delco masts that we bought that are being modified. Part number #7433 the price is $99.95. Order from the website or call our office. With a steel cable these should last a long time. Supplies are limited. We fully expect to be able to ship next week.

Car is located near Chicago. It is a hardtop with a mere 26,000 miles on it. Two owners. Car was taken down to bare metal and repainted 8 years ago. Car was always garage kept. Paint does have some flaws. Paint is cracking on the header panel. Overall nice exterior with all new weathersripping and seals. Concert sound II car with factory radio. No cracks in the dash or console. No tears or fading in the seats.

Under the hood is a built factory block with stock crank, rods, forged pistons and a comp camshaft. Everything is well documented. Engine was built by Gary Oswald of Street Performance, a well known performance shop from years ago. Car has only gone about 1,000 miles since the work was done. Maintains factory heat and AC. The entire car is rust free. Rides on reproduction GNX style wheels with new tires. Perfect turn key, enjoyable show and street car. Asking price is $38,500. Clean title and carfax. Partial trades considered. Email me [email protected] and I can provide more info and photos.

With winter approaching this is one winter project that you will feel the benefits within the first mile of driving on a bumpy or rough road. Also the first time you run over railroad tracks. This is even true if your Turbo Regal is a hardtop. While several designs are sold, the one we market has sold several thousand over almost 25 years. (We wholesale to other suppliers). Part number #1586 at $99.95 and they are currently in stock. You do have to remove your rear seat and the seat belt to avoid accidentally drilling through the back seat when drilling the holes for the 4 braces. The rear seat braces help prevent creating more stress cracks. We also recommend our new lock pillar reinforcement plates. They stiffen the area around the door striker and also hide any existing cracks. Easy to install. Part number #6774 price is $43.95/set. Same time well worth replacing the actual door strikers. Still GM originals NOS part number #6776 at $21.95/set.

With winter fast approaching, it may be time to stop in your local animal shelter and pick up a cat or two. They could be your best option to keep rodents from attacking the hood pad and the wiring in your pride and joy. Best to keep the car covered as well as cats are known to seek higher places to rest. I have two in my pole building and the only rodents I see in the winter are dead ones.

All 3 parts for just $289 and free shipping to the basic 48 states. You save between $30 and $45 with this special depending on your location. Supplies are limited. Remember to avoid issues it's best to buy proper fitting plug wires and not universal wires that can short out against the exhaust manifold or the sharp edges of the upper plenum.

We badly need the original not cracked 1986-1987 Turbo Regal AC Delco mass air flow sensors. Each core is worth a $40 letter of credit. Remember every core we get no matter what part it is we sometimes get ones that can’t be rebuilt. It's unfortunate, but true. It happens frequently with turbo cores especially. Also we need powermaster brake units and original 1986-1987 Turbos. We need cores to get rebuilt to help others maintain their cars. If the situation gets much worse it will force us to raise the price of cores as some customers are not returning them to get their core deposit back.

This 1993 GMC Typhoon is white with a black leather interior. Paint is original. Currently it has just 73,000 miles on it. It has the ATR upgraded Intercooler, a $2,000 upgrade. (AC currently unhooked because of the ATR intercooler). The Typhoon is located in the midwest. The price is $18,900. For more info, email me direct [email protected]

We now have all the braces in stock, no waiting. We also got in the upgraded injectors part #1544. We just got in valve springs #6746. We also have the stock trunk carpet #6509 in stock. Also Pypes Dual Exhaust, Jeep modified brand new lower steering shafts, vacuum brake set ups and the 3-piece baffle sets that surround the radiator #7772. Also, got one rebuilt 1986-1987 original AC Delco mass air flow sensor in stock. You must call the office if you want this. Very hard to get good cores in to get these rebuilt. We got 7 original 1986-1987 mass air flow sensor cores we are sending out to get rebuilt. If you want, call the office to get on the list.

1986-1987 Buick GRAND NATIONAL -

Because of many requests, we now offer reproduction Grand National wheels.

This high-quality reproduction of the popular chrome steel 15" by 7" Grand National wheel has been well received since it was first introduced a few years ago. Due to the high costs involved in getting original steel wheels re-chromed, it has made this reproduction Grand National wheel in aluminum extremely popular among Grand National owners. In order to re-chrome the original steel Grand National wheels, it requires the wheels to be cut apart so the center is separated from the outer rim.

These reproduction wheels have the same back spacing as the original wheels, 3.75". The entire wheel is fully powder coated. This was done for corrosion protection. The front of the wheel is done in the correct black powder coating. This will not flake off. The center caps with these wheels have the correct looking “Turbo 6” logo in the matching original colors. To make the caps stay in place on the wheel a snap ring is used on the back side of the cap.
The opening for the center cap is 3". You can install a T-Type center cap or a GNX-style center cap if you desire to achieve a different look. The inside lip that appears on the front of the steel wheels, which usually collected dirt and eventually rust, was eliminated. Water would generally get trapped in that area of the wheel.

Aluminum wheels have several advantages over the steel chrome wheels. The major advantage is the weight savings. Also, no more issues with rust. The typical steel Grand National wheel with center cap weighs 28.36 lbs. This reproduction aluminum 15" by 7" Grand National wheel with center cap only weighs 17.76 lbs. When you multiple by 4, you can see the tremendous weight savings over the steel chrome Grand National wheels.

All wheels are tested and speed rated. Each set comes complete with center caps, lug nuts, and valve stems.

Wheels are dropped shipped from Illinois and a set of 4 wheels generally costs about $65-$100 for shipping to any of the 48 contiguous states. Call for shipping for other states or Canada - 215-766-1611.

1984-1987 Buick Regal (All Models) -

For the serious racer who wants every available advantage. These are made from the same bumper molds we used to sell over 35 years ago. My son did the prep work using the original bumpers on my 1987 Grand National.

These are for the serious racer and not designed for street use since they offer very little protection in case of an accident.

Both bumpers are done in black gelcoat and can be sanded and painted. The factory marker lights and bezels will fit the openings in the front bumper. Both molds were fully prepped and eliminated the rubber cushion completely. Both bumpers have a smooth front since the rubber cushion was completely eliminated. Both bumpers have fiberglass brackets on the back side that are slotted for adjustments to attach just like the original bumpers.

The fiberglass front bumper weighs just 8 pounds. The stock steel bumper with the reinforcement brace can weigh as much as 45 pounds depending on whether the reinforcement brace is steel or aluminum. You save 37 pounds.

The fiberglass rear bumper weighs less than 10 pounds. The stock steel rear bumper weighs as much as 45 pounds depending on whether it has a steel or aluminum reinforcement brace. You can shed as much as 35 pounds with this fiberglass rear bumper.

We have a special price if you buy both fiberglass bumpers at the same time.

NOTE - Our bumpers are for OFF ROAD USE ONLY! They are NOT made to withstand any collision! NOT LEGAL FOR STREET USE!

NOTE - We recommend these bumpers be installed by a qualified autobody shop. Bumper should be sanded and painted. Easy to install.

Another excellent replacement for any exterior restoration.

*NOTE - Price includes the shipping and handling UPS Ground Shipping to 48 U.S. continental states

We are one of the very few sources to offer completely rebuilt original AC Delco mass air flow sensors for the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals. New mass air flow sensors have been discontinued from AC Delco for several years.

Other available rebuilt units are rebuilt using late-model Camaro mass air flow sensors, not rebuilt from original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal cores like these.
When comparing ours to the various reproductions, it’s important to note that the original one has the “AC Delco” logo embossed on the top cover, which is visible on the car. Others may not have that feature. We have highlighted the embossed logo area with a red arrow in our first photo.

Ours are 100% correct original mass air flow sensors with the proper plug, which came on the car originally.
Original parts will always be the top choice over any reproduction, especially for those wanting to keep their car original.

Sensor has the harness plug in the proper location and comes with a manufacturer’s 90-day Warranty.

This 2mm thick spacer is designed to give the door pin more support.

If you look at the area where the striker is attached, more than likely you will see hairline cracks. They are spot welds that hold a cage nut so you can attach the door striker. These spot welds tend to take the place of one of the 2mm spacers and at the same time give the door striker more support.

This lock pillar reinforcement plate is shaped to look as if it came on the car from the factory. The reinforcement plate measures approximately 4″ x 5″, comes powder-coated glossy black for a lasting finish (glossy black will blend with most dark colors doors and all the Grand Nationals), and are sold as a pair. Plates are easy to install.

It’s interesting to note that GM actually had a recall on another Buick model, the Somerset, back in 1985 for having a similar problem. Their solution at the time was similar to these reinforcement plates.

NOTE - You may also be interested in a related item - #6776 GM Door Strikers (2).

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again.
Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

Remember we will pay cash for certain cores if a letter of credit is not acceptable. Payment instead of credit. Example turbo cores cash payment $150. Remember you must email me directly - [email protected] to make sure it is still available. All prices as noted include shipping to the basic 48 states. Other two states and Canada call for pricing. Be sure to include my part number on your request makes it easier for me!

Remember, the weekly Inner Circle always goes out at 3 pm eastern time so subscribers all have the same equal chance on the Rare Parts. All our parts generally are priced to sell and below what others offer. Also our used items are exactly as described. Emails are acknowledged in the order we receive them regardless of when I respond as I am not always by a computer and I only use a flip phone. It's best to email as soon as possible as many of our items sell within the first hour! Do NOT call the office on the listed Rare Parts as you could lose out by someone beating you with an email.
