1982-1987 Buick Regal (All Models) -

REPRODUCTION BODY MOUNT BUSHINGS / CUSHIONS (22) KIT

This important kit is a reproduction of the original GM hard rubber body bushing kit we used to sell until it was discontinued by GM. This is a complete 22 bushings/cushions set, which includes the #5 GNX bushings/cushions and the 6 lower bushings/cushions that were never installed on all the other Regals. These are made from hard rubber, like the originals

Installing this kit can bring your car back to the way it rode when the car was brand new. Age and environment may have weakened the original body bushings/cushions and, in some cases, they may be completely crushed or gone.

This is one project you shouldn't put off, because the longer you wait, the tougher it may be to remove the original bushings/cushions without having the bolts break or spin freely due to rust or corrosion.

Originally Buick did not install a lower bushing/cushion in positions 3 and 4. Based on our experience, some Turbo Regals did not get a lower bushing/cushion in #7. Instead Buick simply used a flat washer which pressed against the insert from the top bushing/cushion. This left a gap of about 1/2 inch in those locations. In some cases, the body bolt may have even fallen out!

Replacing all the body bushings/cushions is the way to recreate that "new car ride" and at the same time stiffen up the car, especially since this kit includes the missing lower body bushings/cushions and the optional GNX #5 bushing. It's one of the best methods to freshen up the suspension.

Our first photo shows the entire 22-piece kit. The second photo is an illustration showing the actual positions, #2 thru #7, for the bushings/cushions. The third photo shows a typical original bushing/cushions (crushed and distorted) on the left next to a new upper and lower bushings/cushions on the right. It shows just how bad some of the original bushings/cushions can be.

We recommend you also purchase Part #7304, which is the radiator core support bushings/cushions (2) set. This would give you all 7 mounting points securing the body and core support to the frame.

We also recommend you purchase our factory-style body mount bolts kit, Part #6974, which are the special grade 8 bolts required to secure the bushings/cushions to the frame.

NOTE - GM refers to these as cushions, but most car owners know them as bushings. We recommend installation of this kit be done by a qualified body shop, since it requires lifting the body off the frame by several inches. It is also necessary to have proper tools and measurement equipment to re-position the body correctly back on the frame. You also have to remove the rear bumper to avoid crushing the rear bumper fillers.
