Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 01-15-2020 –

CONTEST WINNER(S) 1987 GRAND NATIONAL - 102 MILES MECUM - AUCTION –

We decided to give two awards for our contest. The reason is that the price posted on Mecum’s website included the 10% buyer’s fee. The actual hammered price at the auction was $58,000. The actual posted price on Mecum’s website was $63,800, a 10% increase over the actual bid price.

This way there would be no hard feelings due to a technicality. When and if we do future contests based on a sale at an auction, we will make it very clear as to which price we are require.

We had over 100 entries for this contest in a matter of just a few hours last Wednesday night.

The remarkable thing is that one individual, Sparks Dement nailed it exactly at $58,000, which was the actual selling price before the commission for Mecum. That additional fee made the total price paid $63,800. Coming in with a guess of $63,500 was Dan Schurwan.

We have notified both winners. Both winners will be sent a Molly autographed HO scale diecast Grand National car from our 2007 Birthday and Reunion bash.

On a side note, I was curious how Sparks Dement got his first name. It was his grandmother’s maiden name and it is his middle name. He has always gone by the name Sparks. Sparks bought a 1987 Grand National right out of college in 1989. Later he sold it. His father was so impressed with the Grand National that he went out and bought a 1987 Turbo Limited. In 1990 off a car lot that mistakenly had it priced as a regular V6. In February 2017 his Dad passed away and Spark now has the Turbo Limited.

Dan got his 1987 Grand National from his Dad who had purchased it years ago from one of the owners of DC Tech. It was actually one of the cars we bought and sold years ago. You may recall that DC Tech made several real nice cosmetic parts for under the hood of the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals.

PHOTO 1 – We show a screenshot that Jason from Canada sent me showing the total price of $63,800 paid for the 104-mile original 1987 Grand National.

MORE COLLECTABLE ITEMS FOR SALE -

One of the rarest Turbo Regal displays in my personal collection is this lighted display Buick made in 1978 introducing the Turbocharged V6 engine. I have no idea how many they made. Over the years, I have only seen maybe 2 others for sale. I have owned this one for over 15 years and feel it’s time to let it go and let another Buick collector enjoy it. It is in perfect condition. It measures 18 inches tall by 16 inches wide by 4 inches thick. Figures are approximate. The display plugs into a normal electric outlet with an on/off thumb switch. The display has a metal frame.

PHOTO 2 – We show two photos of what is probably the rarest factory Buick lighted Turbo display. It was hard to photograph without getting glare. In one photo, we have it turned on. It is in perfect working order when lit it shows the flow path through the system. This unique Buick original Turbo display is listed for sale under the Rare Parts section.

FEW MORE COLLECTIBLES FOR SALE –

I have a Mr. Norm bobble head doll still in the original packaging for sale. It is one of just 500 produced, according to the wording on the box. The clear plastic that surrounds the bubble head has been autographed personally by Mr. Norm for me when I met him at one of the Carlisle events several years ago.

We also have two different Kirban Reunion Dash Plaques - 1990 and 1992. I also have what I assume is a paperweight. I have never seen another one. It features the tri-color Buick tri-shield in the center.

PHOTO 3 – The photo to the left shows the autographed box containing Mr. Norm. It is a limited edition 1 of 500 and is just under 10 inches tall. The photo to the right shows the Kirban Reunion dash plaques from 1990 and 1992. Also in the same photo is this metal paperweight that measures 3 inches in diameter. It has the words “PROFESSIONAL SALESMASTER” around the top leading edge with the tri-color Buick tri-shield in the center. All these items are listed for sale in the Rare Parts section.

PHOTO 4 – The photo to the left shows a turbocharger key chain and two unique Power Six metal stick pins. One says “BUICK GRAND NATIONAL 3.8 SFI TURBO.” The other stick pin says “BUICK GRAND NATIONAL INTERCOOLED.” Both stick pins are about the size of a quarter. The photo to the right shows the GMP diecast Xray GNX. It is #444. It measures 11 inches long. All these items can be seen under the Rare Parts section for sale.

HOOD LATCH CAR SHOW DISPLAY STAND UPDATE –

Currently we have the machine shop making a few changes to the initial 2 prototypes for the 3 DKs project, the hood latch car show display stand. We already have all the hardware ordered. Watch for updates once we approve the final 2 products for production.

EDD BYRNES - RIP –

If you’re my age, you will remember Edd Byrnes. He was one of the main actors that appeared in the TV series 77 Sunset Strip. The hit TV show ran from 1958 to 1964. His bit part was quite popular as he helped solve cases. The show made Edd Byrnes a teen idol. Later he would make a novelty hit record with Connie Stevens that sold more than one million copies called, “Kookie, Kookie Lend Me Your Comb.” The record rose to #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in May of 1959. Edd Byrnes was 87 years old. Edd spelled his name with 2 d’s.

WELL-OPTIONED LOW-MILEAGE 1987 GRAND NATIONAL - FOR SALE –

This Grand National is still available. This extremely well-optioned, low-mileage 1987 Grand National that is for sale. The owner wants me to sell it for him. He has had it 6 years. The miles on this Grand National is a mere 48,200. Options include factory moon roof, power windows, power locks, tilt, cruise, delay wipers, concert sound, power trunk, digital dash, power seat, working power antenna, and posi rear. The Grand National is located in Maryland.

It has a beautiful repaint done prior to his owning it. He had paint correction done and ceramic coating this past Spring. The car really shines, probably 100%, better than original. Everything functions 100%, even the original AC.

Additional features include embroidered floor mats, few chrome goodies under the hood, Kirban adjustable fuel regulator, hot wire kit, 60lb injectors, adjustable wastegate, TT chip, new bumper fillers, new fuel tank, and has dual a-pillar gauges and console gauge package. He checked the car with a magnet and shows no putty or filler anywhere. It has the factory chip guard along bottom of the car.

According to the owner Mike, the Grand National has had 4 previous owners. The car shows no accidents or any indication that mileage is not accurate.

The price is $26,900. This Grand National is priced to sell. You would be hard pressed to find a better example of a well-optioned 1987 Grand National that would measure up to the quality of this one at this price. A factory moon roof with a power seat option is extremely rare. This car next Spring would easily bring several grand more than it is priced at this fall.

This car is show quality from any angle. For more information and photos, email me direct [email protected]

Pass the word along to your friends who may be looking for a great-looking well-optioned Grand National.

Another use for Magic Guard® is to protect plated and coated metals from rust and corrosion,

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged.
