OUR HALLOWEEN M & M CONTEST -

As long time readers know we generally do an M&M contest several times a year for special occasions. Here are the rules:

The closest under the actual count and earliest guess that is either under the actual count or the exact guess will be declared the winner. We will award a second place winner also. The first place winner and second place winner both will be announced in next week’s inner circle.

Your single guess must be emailed directly to me [email protected] Your single guess must be submitted by this coming Saturday 12 noon eastern time November 7th 2020 to be eligible.

Contest is open to all subscribers that are not connected to the Turbo Regal business. The first place winner will receive the actual M&M container pictured, 4 Pennsylvania Halloween lottery tickets, the new owners manual holder and their choice of any of our new stainless black powder coated license frames with the tagline they want. We show all the tag line choices in Photo 1. Only the first place winner gets the 4 of the Pennsylvania Halloween lottery tickets. On the lottery tickets you have a chance at $2500 or a top prize of $10,000. The second place winner gets our new owners manual holder, and their choice of the new stainless black powder coated license frames with the tagline of their choice.

Here are a few clues as to the size of the metal tin holding the M&Ms. We show the lottery tickets, owner's manual holder, license plate frame in the same picture. The depth of the M&M container is about 2-¾ inches.

PHOTO 1 - The photo to the left we show the actual metal tin filled with regular M&Ms with the lottery tickets and the two prizes - the new vinyl Manual Holder and a blank stainless steel black powder coated license frame. In the photo to the right we show one of the taglines on the new stainless black powder coated license frames. In the photo under those two photos we show a list of all the possible tagline decal choices that the winners get to choose from that will be affixed to the bottom of the new stainless steel black powder coated license plate frame. All these decals are now in production.

TURBO REGAL BLACK POWDER COATED STAINLESS LICENSE PLATE FRAMES -

As noted in Photo 1 we are working on a variety of unique taglines that will be a decal affixed to the bottom of stainless steel black powder coated license plate frames. Because these license plate frames are stainless and black powder coated they are high quality that will last. We have about 10 other tag lines we are working on that would cover other GM cars. Watch for those shortly.

Here is the information on 8 Turbo Regal stainless steel black powder coated license plate frames with the 8 Turbo Regal and GS Buick taglines we currently have available. We are working on other taglines for various other GM cars which we will have shortly. We feel these will be quite popular for Turbo Regal owners.

Below is the part number for each of the 8 Turbo Regal and GS Buick taglines. All of the taglines are white with a black background except where the word Boost is in the color red, GNX and GSX is in red. The price for each stainless steel black powder coated license plate frame with the decal of your choice is $14.95 each plus shipping. Each stainless steel black powder coated license plate frame comes complete with new hardware and black plastic caps that cover the two screws. We also are offering the decals by themselves. They are priced at $5 each. Ideally it pays to buy a license plate frame with the tagline of your choice and our new owners manual holder at the same time as the shipping is less.

NOTE: The part number with F code is for the stainless black powder coated license frame INCLUDES the decal noted already affixed to the license plate frame.

STOCK APPEARING INTERCOOLER AND TURBO HEAVY DUTY HOSE SET (3) #7553 -

Finally, we now have these correct looking slightly thicker than stock satin black intercooler and turbo hose set available. We have been out of them since last March due to the virus! These hoses are 100% identical to the factory GM ones with the orange inside. Only difference is they are twice as thick which makes them far superior than the factory ones. No other intercooler hose kit I am aware of comes close to looking this correct. One reason we have carried them. We also offer regular black intercooler hoses #7458 which has a visible stripe on them. They are less expensive.

See the photo below. These are in stock. I strongly suggest you buy a set while we have them in stock. We do have more on order as well.

PHOTO 2 - We show the photo of this correct looking original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal hose set (3) Part #7553. These have always been the most popular ones we sell.

A RARE FIND A MINT ORIGINAL GRAND NATIONAL STEERING WHEEL -

This steering wheel is listed for sale in the Rare Parts section. This steering wheel is all original. Shows virtually no wear of the leather. The steering wheel has no cuts, nor any sun fading. Even the grain and texture of the leather shows no weak areas. The brushed spokes look very good also.

PHOTO 3 - We show this original 1986-1987 Grand National steering wheel. It is priced a bit cheaper than getting a redone steering wheel. It is in remarkable condition. See the Rare Parts section.

MORE MEMORIES TURBO REGAL RELATED -

In the late 1990s we were going full blast buying Turbo Regals. In 1999 we bought and sold 44 of the 1986 and 1987 Turbo Regals. We duplicated that number of 44 in 2000. Very good numbers that work out to buying and selling one every 8-9 days! Yet, for all those purchases I had yet to buy a real GNX. My luck would change in 2001. In 2001 I only bought 16 Turbo Regals. Of the 16 I bought, 4 had under 20,000 miles on them. Two had less than 10,000 miles on them. We had stepped up to buy the really nice low mileage examples.

My 3rd purchase in 2001 which would have been in the winter I had been working on for sometime. I was contacted by a person in Alexandria, Virginia. He was shopping for a new Lexus. He had purchased a brand new GNX in 1987 and was using it as an everyday drive to work car. He had struck a deal with a dealership for the Lexus he wanted, but they did not want his GNX as a trade in. Also, his daughter did not want him to sell the GNX. I did not want to appear anxious so this went on for about 2 or 3 weeks. I kept hoping he would call me to come buy his GNX.

Finally at some point he agreed to sell me his GNX with 179,000 miles on it. Until this point I never even heard of a GNX having that many miles on it, let alone never having any serious mechanical issues. He was right up front with me and said the driver's seat was worn as was the steering wheel. The paint had major fade issues, but the car has never been hit. Keep in mind GNXs back in the 1990s the market was still soft. Decent used examples were still in the 30 to 35 price range.

In my head I am thinking with 179,000 miles on it I need to be able to retail it for $12,500 to $14,500 if I am lucky and the car is as described. Fortunately, Alexandria Virginia is not far so I struck a deal taking a check from the Buick dealership for ten grand hoping that the GNX was as described.

I arrived at his house which was in a huge housing development where all the houses and streets looked the same. As in most cases I take the car for a drive by myself. I made the mistake of leaving my cell phone in my truck. Since this was the very first GNX I was looking at buying I wanted to make sure everything worked and indeed it was a real GNX. Unfortunately I wasn't paying attention to the various streets in his neighborhood and I lost track of what street his house was on. I was gone for about one hour mostly spent trying to locate his house and my truck and trailer!

The car performed perfectly. Even the power antenna still functioned and all the gauges worked. The paint was shot but the car was super straight. He was a non-smoker. He did not have the jacket or the book which was not a deal breaker. The transmission shifted nice and crisp. It probably sounds like a line, but the way the car ran you would think it had 79,000 miles on it and not 179,000. Totally stock absolutely nothing changed.

I was impressed. I loaded the GNX on my trailer and was quite pleased with the purchase of my first GNX. (Eventually I would buy 10 other GNXs but this one stands out from the crowd because of the miles and is well documented at the price it sold for.)

On the way home I stopped at my buddys shop and few of his turbo buddies were there and I offered it to them for $13,500. They all passed on it saying I was crazy thinking I would get $13,500 for the GNX. Made me recall years earlier when I bought my first used 1965 original tri-power 4 speed GTO for $350 and offered it locally to some friends for $600 and they thought I was crazy. (I sold it for $1200 to a guy out of Chicago from my Hemmings ad).

Back in 2001 we were still publishing a monthly printed newsletter entitled “Grand News”. When that issue hit GNX 295 179,000 miles listed for $13,900. I can’t recall the number of calls I got but it sold within a day. I know I have written about GNX 295 before. I recently discovered the very nice typewriter two page letter I got from the buyer who flew up from Tennessee and drove it 800 plus miles home averaging 23 mpg. He was quite pleased with his purchase!

A few years back I did hear from a person I believe from Texas who purchased GNX 295 and I was having the engine rebuilt. That was the last I have heard from the whereabouts of GNX 295. Where does it reside today? I have no idea. The current owner may not even know the history of GNX 295. I would gladly share it with the owner if the owner can be located.

I think because of the documentation I have GNX 295 is probably the cheapest 100% original one that has ever been sold with over 175,000 miles that was as nice as this one was. Looking back it's kind of ironic the Lexus dealer turned it down considering Molly did the Lexus logo for Toyota and did the GNX book etc for the GNX project for Buick.

PHOTO 4 - The left photo shows the actual ad I did for GNX 295 and the price tag of $13,900. The photo to the right shows part of the nice typed letter the buyer from Tennessee wrote me on his experience of purchasing GNX 295. (I blocked out his name and address).

REBUILT WIPER MOTOR UPDATE -

We are still waiting on the 10 from Cardone. As of this writing I believe we have 4 or 5 left. These are a bargain if you shop around and see what is available from other vendors and auto stores. I had Cardone find a total of 10 original wiper motor cores for the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals. I bought all 10 that they are rebuilding for us. These are quite scarce. There is no core charge with these so I am probably thinking Cardone will discontinue them from their parts. I am not sure if they will be on our website since only 10 are available. Like the recent power steering pumps I think these will also sell out quickly. You must call our office 215-766-1611 or email [email protected] The price is $99.95 each. The part number is 7468. While you may never drive your Turbo Regal in the rain, most state laws require your car to have working wipers! See the next photo. You will need to reinstall your intermittent wiper option and washer pump assembly. We used to sell these same ones several years ago.

VIDEO INSTALLING THE POPULAR JEEP LOWER STEERING SHAFT -

This is by far the best replacement for that 30 year old lower steering shaft in the Turbo Regal. It eliminates for good that lower rag joint that gets spongy over time and to replace it is not an easy task. The Jeep shaft has metal swivel joints at both ends for a more positive feel. The Jeep shaft also has the absorber towards the upper end to eliminate any vibrations. On a side note it also gives you more room in the engine compartment. Ideally it pays to also purchase at the same time the 4-piece kit bearing kit #7572. This kit has a metal bearing instead of a rubber seal which the turbo regal has. That rubber seal is now 30 plus years old and no longer is holding the steering shaft nice and tight. We have several Jeep lower steering shafts in stock. Email me direct [email protected] Each has been modified to function properly.

Special thanz to John for his video link below.

Dear Dennis:

I bought one of your jeep steering shafts last year, along with the bearing upgrade, and finally installed it. Great product, easy install, love it!

I made a how-to install post about it.
I mentioned in the article that I got it from Kirban Performance.

If you would like to share the post with your readers how easy this upgrade is to do, feel free to do so.

Maybe it will generate some more sales for you once people see the benefits of upgrading.

Thanks & take care - John

UPDATE FROM THE CHECKER CAB LIMO OWNER -

As we wrote about last week we heard from Bill out of Michigan, owner of one of the ultra rare Checker Cab limos built in 1977. Only 4 of the 47 ever built are known to still exist today. He contacted me about purchasing one of our Jeep lower steering shafts and the bearing kit we sell. His steering was very sloppy and worn. Checker used a GM steering column and gear box.

I got an email from him yesterday. He reports he received my package last Tuesday and installed it that very same night! It went just as planned. He made the relief in the upper shaft so the clamp bolt would fit as the directions said to do.

The bearing kit he said was a direct replacement. The entire process took about 30 minutes mainly because he had to move his alternator out of the way. He test drove his Checker Limo and the steering wheel slop was completely gone! Needless to say he was happy with his investment and plans to write up a story about it in the Checkers forum soon! With that being said its possible the Jeep shaft fits older GM cars than just the Gbody applications we have been targeting all these years.

Checker cabs who would have guessed. Probably hear from a Yugo owner next who has a sloppy steering issue and is seeking a fix for the problem!

HIGH VOLUME FUEL PUMPS -

This was another critical part that we had issues getting stock on over much of the last several months. We now have several suppliers and have high volume fuel pumps in stock. Our part number is #1540. At the same time its advisable to replace the gas filter #6540. We sell the factory AC Delco. If you find the gas filter bracket is rusted we have it reproduced in stainless #7150. It is also in stock. Turbo Regals depend on good fuel pressure and flow! Our adjustable fuel regulator is probably the most popular one available #6547 and it is also in stock. Tie it all together with the Caspers Feeder kit to deliver the proper constant volts to the fuel pump #6751 which is currently on order!

FROM MY LOCAL OBITS POSTING -

This obit caught my eye earlier last week. Woman made it to 98 years old. In the write up it noted she was kissed by Paul Neuman. Must have been a major milestone for her to make mention of it in the obit. No reason was given for this unusual opportunity. Long time readers may recall around 1988-1989 Paul Newman had his favorite Volvo station wagon modified using a Grand National turbo engine! I vaguely remember the shop contacting me for a part. Later Paul would have a 5.0 engine dropped into a Volvo station wagon and a Corvette engine put in a Volvo station wagon. I have no idea where any of these unique powered Volvo station wagons are today.

Volvo is well noted for building great vehicles that can take a hit in an accident. Years ago my wife Eileen had a 1962 sedan 122 model and I had a 544 coupe that had a Judson supercharger on it. I had it all restored. I used to tow for a local Volvo dealership. I just sold a Volvo sedan that I won at a bid lot 2 weeks ago. Volvo may not be very stylish looking, but from a safety standpoint they rank very high.

LIST OF MECHANICS FOR THE TURBO REGAL -

We plan to keep running this list of Turbo Regal mechanics for a while. As we get new additions they will appear at the end. Please if you use a good mechanic send us the info to share with our readers. They do not need to be a dedicated Turbo Regal mechanic.
.

URGENT REQUEST -

We need good used 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering wheel cores! To see if your core is acceptable email me [email protected] a photo prior to sending it for $100 credit. Help us help others restore their cars. We have an urgent need for good steering wheel cores.

TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

If you have an idea you tried and it worked be sure to let us know so we can tell our readers.

TIP FROM KIRBAN –

If you order small items it is best to order more than one small item to avoid a large shipping charge for one small item that may weigh under 1 pound. Plan your buying so shipping is more in line with your purchases. Example you can buy 2 or 3 small items that weigh under one pound and pay under $20 total for shipping. Buying one small light weight item you will end up paying approximately $15 for standard UPS shipping. Example you can buy our new owners manual holder and the metal license plate frame both and pay roughly about $15 to ship both.

IMPORTANT - INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SHIPPING ADDRESS –

If you are returning any cores or products, it is important that you send them to the correct address.

KIRBAN PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS
529 HAYCOCK RUN ROAD
KINTNERSVILLE, PA 18930

We discovered that FedEx will not forward any packages that are sent to the PO Box or to our old address in Plumsteadville. Instead they deliver the packages to the old address and leave them outside. They refuse to forward and say that we should notify the shipper. In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.

If you have any cores that are being sent back to us, be sure to use the correct address, especially if you use FedEx. Otherwise, we may not receive your package or it may be sent back to you.

EBAY SALES –

We have been placing some of our special items on ebay. Be sure to check it out.

CLICK HERE - For the link to the Kirban Enterprises ebay listings.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON RARE PARTS FOR SALE –

In order for our Inner Circle members to have an equal opportunity on the Rare Parts, no emails regarding orders on rare parts will be honored prior to 3 pm Wednesday. This way Inner Circle members get the opportunity first to purchase any of the rare items that may be pictured in the main body of the Inner Circle which may go on our website earlier in the day each week. Inner Circle members are the ONLY people that get to see the Rare Parts listing and see the prices.

CORES NEEDED - URGENT REQUEST –

Here is the information on our credits for cores.

STEERING WHEEL CORES. Currently we need good 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering cores. They must be straight and not have rusted spokes. We will issue a Letter of Credit of $100 for each acceptable core. You must email me [email protected] a photo first to make sure the steering wheel is acceptable.

POWERMASTER BRAKE UNITS. Currently, we are accepting powermaster brake units. We give a $150 Letter-of-Credit for each acceptable core. If you include the turbo pedal add $10. You would receive $160 Letter-of-Credit. To avoid having your core not accepted, you MUST first email me a photo of the core you plan to send in - [email protected] - We will NOT accept any cores that have severe rust issues or have been disassembled. Core must have the
brake switch and brake bowl reservoir. Too many of the cores we have been getting are in such terrible shape they are worthless to us.

TURBO CORES must be the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal stock turbo. They must be complete. We will issue you a $150 Letter-of-Credit for each acceptable core. We urgently need these cores!

GOOD NEWS - WE ARE ACCEPTING CLASSIFIED ADS -

Good news - We now accept Classified Ads in our weekly Inner Circle emails. Over the years several customers have asked about placing an ad in our weekly Inner Circle.

Here are the options and the costs.

Ads can be from any individual or company. It needs to be automotive related, meaning it does not need to be specifically Turbo Regal related. It can be for something for sale or something wanted.

Maximum number of words is 125 words, which is about 7 to 9 lines of copy. No photos. You can list a website. We recommend you state your name, phone number or email, a price, and your location in your ad.

The cost for 2 consecutive weeks is $25. The cost for 4 consecutive weeks is $40. You save $10 with the 4-week plan. No changes can be made to your existing running ad. You can only run one ad at any given time. We will have a code system at the end of your ad, so we will know what week number your ad is to run - 2 or 4 weeks.

It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.
We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.

Our weekly Inner Circle reaches over 3,400 members every Wednesday direct to their inbox. The Inner Circle also appears every Wednesday on our website with the related photos. Your ad would be visible to both groups of readers. So, the exposure to your ad is well over 3,400 potential buyers.

Ads submitted properly by the previous Sunday would appear that next Wednesday in the weekly Inner Circle. Ads must be submitted by email to - [email protected]

Payment by credit card must be done by phone to our office 215-766-1611.

NOTE - IF YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO SEE THE BUICK RARE PARTS SECTION -

If you are not able to see the Buick Rare Parts section at the end of this Inner Circle, it is because you are not an Inner Circle member, but instead are reading this on the website. You must subscribe to see the Rare Parts section each week. It would go directly to your inbox every Wednesday afternoon. It is FREE, probably one reason why nobody complains about what I write about. To subscribe simply email – [email protected] - to get our free weekly Inner Circle email.

The Buick Rare Parts section is only viewed by those that subscribe. Subscription is free, so complaints on what I write are nonexistent!

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US –

“A BOOST OF BUICK PERFORMANCE”
OWNER’S MANUAL HOLDER

Usually the more expensive GM cars have a nice holder for their Owner’s Manual.

Originally Buick put all the documents in a plain clear plastic bag. Since these turbo cars didn’t come with a holder in the car, we’ve designed one.

Our black vinyl Owner’s Manual holder measures 6-3/4" x 10" and fits perfectly in your glove box.

The words “A BOOST OF BUICK PERFORMANCE” appear in silver below the flap.

There are two business card holders on the flap. You can insert your insurance company agent’s business card or your mechanic’s business card.

This holder is great for storing the Owner’s Manual, Warranty cards, insurance papers, service records, etc.

It also makes a great gift item for any car enthusiast.
An excellent protection for your Owner’s Manual and documents.

GM LICENSED -
“BUICK MOTORSPORTS” FENDER COVER

The “BUICK MOTORSPORTS” logo is silk screened in white, red and tan on a 34″ x 22″ black fender cover and is GM licensed.

It is made from a non-slip PVC foam cushioned material, so it won’t slide off the fender. Because the surface is non-slip, it holds your tools in place and minimizes potential chips and scratches. It resists most automotive fluids, such as motor oil, brake fluid, coolant, etc.

This recognizable logo is sure to appeal to any Buick owner. We offer it individually as Part #7547 or as a pair Part #7548.

These fender covers are a must-have addition to your garage items, and can also be stored in the trunk in case you need to protect the fenders while away from the garage.

Our photos show the fender cover flat and as it appears folded.

This fender cover also makes a unique gift for any Buick enthusiast or mechanic.

BUTYL TAPE - 5/16” DIAMETER 10-FOOT ROLL -

This butyl tape is black, 5/16" diameter, and comes in a 10-foot roll.

The list of uses for this product is endless. Butyl tape has a strong adhesive and excellent sealing effect. It has very good waterproof performance. It is a "tape type" sealer used by glass shops to seal windshields and rear window glass.

It is not available in most auto stores, which is why we now carry it. Its unique feature of controlled compressibility allows easy installation and yet will not squeeze out when pressed. I have been using it for a variety of projects for many years.

We include it with several of the parts we sell, such as the LED Third Brake Light and the foam filter for the wastegate solenoid. In both cases, it is used to hold the part in place. It’s ideal to fill small holes in the trunk. Buick used it to seal the quarter windows.

If you have a section of wind noise on the weatherstrip seal to the door glass, simply put a section of butyl tape between the molding and the weatherstrip to "puff" out that section of the weatherstrip. The problem is solved. If you have T-Tops and are replacing the metal T section, it’s ideal to use this between the T metal bar and the roof area.

It’s ideal to help seal any moldings in place or lose trim.

Every owner should have a roll of butyl tape in their garage or workshop.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
