Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members - 02-13-2013
FRED BOATMAN - NOTED CARTOONIST -
Fred Boatman worked for Peterson Publications from 1962 until 1976. His cartoons appeared in several of Peterson Publications, including Hot Rod, Car Craft, Rod and Custom CARtoons, just to name a few.
If you grew up reading those magazines during the 1960s and 1970s, you have seen Fred's work.
He did over 300 cartoons in total and they are published in a book entitled, "Cartoons on Wheels."
The winner of our Kirban Performance Products “Name the Cartoon Turbo Guy” Contest was Thomas Crandell from Dallas, Texas. We will be sending him an autographed copy of Fred Boatman's book, and a copy of the very first "Tommy Turbo" cartoon.
PHOTO 1 - Here is the first cartoon in the series of "The Adventures of Tommy Turbo." Our plan is to run one cartoon about once a month. With 25 years of ideas, I should be able to keep Fred busy! We will be offering the original artwork for sale after we feature each cartoon. This would be your chance to own original artwork related to the Turbo Regal.
In our 1-30-2013 Inner Circle in Photo 2 we show two versions of the Owner's Manuals holders that Buick car dealers used to store all the glove box booklets.
They also used a cheaper version, which was simply a clear plastic bag that protected the booklets in your glove box. This clear plastic bag would probably be the easiest part to reproduce today! I remember them vividly as we saw many of them in the low-mileage Turbo Regals we've sold over the years.
I know we have covered this in the past, but since I have a complete set of 1987 glove box booklets, I wanted to feature it again.
A set of 5 booklets usually came in the 1987 Turbo Regal glove.
PHOTO 2 - We show the 5 basic booklets that would have come in the glove box of your 1987 Turbo Regal, complete with the original clear plastic bag. As you can see, these are in very nice original condition for being 25 years old.
The "1987 Buick Owner's Manual" would be the thickest one and originals today are next to impossible to find. You can expect to pay $60 or more for a decent original one.
The second thickest booklet would be the "6/60 Warranty and Owner Assistance Information" booklet. These are hard to find today, especial one that has been not been filled out on the cover by the original owner.
Next, roughly the same size would the "1987 General Motors Maintenance Schedule for Passenger Cars."
A small "Highway Tire Adjustment Policy Limited Warranty" booklet for the Goodyear tires would also be included.
Last, would be the Delco "Stereo Listening Manual and Station Directory."
In the next photo we show four more related 1987 Buick booklets.

The smallest one was actually printed in 1979 but I have found it in many of the 1987 Regals. It's called "Buick Let's Talk - A service signals checklist for the car owner," and talks about the various minor issues that can arise and what it could be.
The next booklet in this group is quite rare. It's an original "1987 Price Directory." It shows every option with the trunk ID code for all the 1987 Buick models, complete with the actual price.
Next is the full-color "1987 Buick Exterior Colors and Wheels" for all the Buick models.
Last, but not least, is the "Focus on Product - 1987 Product Information" booklet that runs 80 pages in length.
These last 3 booklets were all part of the mini salesman's packet and are extremely rare.

HURRICANE SANDY - GNX BEING SAVED -
Recently we became aware of a GNX that was flooded during Hurricane Sandy.
PHOTO 4 - With the vast destruction that Hurricane Sandy caused on the east coast, one of the victims was a Buick GNX. This photo shows this rare GNX partially submerged during the aftermath of last fall's Hurricane Sandy. It is undergoing a complete restoration, right down to the very last nut and bolt.
I am sure this was not the only muscle car/collectible car that suffered water damage. But it's great that one of the few 547 GNXs will be back on the road.
POST OFFICE ISSUES MUSCLE CAR SERIES STAMPS -
It's not often that the post office issues a new stamp of something or somebody we actually recognize. But later this month, they will be featuring a series of five American muscle cars on their Forever Stamp options. They include the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, 1966 Pontiac GTO, 1967 Shelby GT-500, 1970 Chevelle SS, and the 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda.

Like most of you, I would make room in my garage for any of them.
I have owned several 1966 GTOs. I had an unusual black-on-black, original paint, 4-speed, tri-power with Hurst wheels GTO, which we sold for around $3500. By unusual, I mean it was black, not a popular color back during those years. Today, of course, black is quite popular.
The only Hemi car we owned was a 1967 GTX that had 22,000 actual miles. We got $9,000 for that car, which I thought was all the money in the world since I only paid $5,000 for it.
We did own two 1970 Cudas at the same time; a 440 and an AAR Cuda.
I will try and find photos of these for next week's Inner Circle.

GM LICENSED - Reproduction EMISSION DECAL
GM affixed this decal to the heater box directly above the Harrison AC label (as shown in the second photo.)
This label shows the GM “VEHICLE EMISSION CONTROL INFORMATION and contains the schematic for the emission lines.
Since the cars are now so old, the original may have fallen off, been affixed crooked, or just deteriorated.
The original GM decal is no longer available.
These GM licensed reproduction decal measures 7-7/8" x 1-15/16", is printed in silver on black, and has a self-adhesive backing.
If you are having the engine compartment restored, you would want to replace this emission decal.

USED ORIGINAL AC DELCO “MADE IN ENGLAND” RADIATOR CAP
The original factory correct radiator cap that GM used on all 1982-1987 Regals, including the Turbo Regals, did not have ears (tabs) on the cap. What made it unique from all previous AC Delco radiator caps and later AC Delco radiator caps, is that the source who made them for AC put the words “MADE IN ENGLAND” on the cap.
These original radiator caps have been cleaned and are in near mint condition. Even if you find one with the original AC Delco part number, it may have a later version AC Delco radiator cap in the box.
Another nice finishing touch for any correct under-the-hood restoration.

GM at Carlisle is held at the Carlisle Fairgrounds, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Turbo Regal.
I have signed on to conduct two seminars on Saturday, June 22nd. One seminar will be on Turbo Regals and the second one will be on Hurst. So, mark your calendar.
Carlisle, as many of you know, puts on some of the largest car shows and swap meets in the USA and has done so for over 25 years. It is centrally located in Pennsylvania, just west of Harrisburg, PA and minutes off the PA Turnpike and Route 81.

1982-1987 Buick Regal (All Models) -
USED ORIGINAL AC DELCO “MADE IN ENGLAND” RADIATOR CAP
The original factory correct radiator cap that GM used on all 1982-1987 Regals, including the Turbo Regals, did not have ears (tabs) on the cap. What made it unique from all previous AC Delco radiator caps and later AC Delco radiator caps, is that the source who made them for AC put the words “MADE IN ENGLAND” on the cap.
These original radiator caps have been cleaned and are in near mint condition. Even if you find one with the original AC Delco part number, it may have a later version AC Delco radiator cap in the box.
Another nice finishing touch for any correct under-the-hood restoration.

North on Route 611, through Warrington, Doylestown and into Plumsteadville (you can take the Rt 611 Bypass that goes around Doylestown - it exits back onto Rt. 611 north of Doylestown). Watch for a shopping center with a McDonald’s on your right. Go past that light at Stump Road and the Plumsteadville Inn. Make your FIRST left at the Shelly Funeral Home onto Kellers Church Road. Ours is the second office complex a short distance down on the right. Our unit is at the back far corner. There’s plenty of parking, since most of the other companies are closed on the weekends.
NOTE - If you are using MapQuest, you may have to use “Pipersville 18947” as the city.

GM AT CARLISLE - June 21st thru 23rd, 2013 -
GM at Carlisle is held at the Carlisle Fairgrounds, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Turbo Regal.
I have signed on to conduct two seminars on Saturday, June 22nd. One seminar will be on Turbo Regals and the second one will be on Hurst. So, mark your calendar.
Carlisle, as many of you know, puts on some of the largest car shows and swap meets in the USA and has done so for over 25 years. It is centrally located in Pennsylvania, just west of Harrisburg, PA and minutes off the PA Turnpike and Route 81.

The 2013 BPG Event will be at National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio, Friday, August 2nd and Saturday August 3rd.

Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
