05-25-2022 Inner Circle

Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 05-25-2022 -

COMING SOON TWO NEW CONTESTS-

Watch for updates as the date gets closer to the Las Vegas Barrett Jackson auction date at the end of June. Two of the featured cars at this auction will be Paul Castle's famous Silver Bullet race car, and a 300 mile original 1987 Grand National hardtop that he acquired last year. We will have a contest prior to this auction to our readers of the Inner Circle members. The Silver Bullet is already posted on Barrett Jackson's website and the first day got over 1.5 million hits! One of the last times the Silver Bullet was run was a blast down our street for my 60th birthday bash in 2007. Riding shotgun that day was Molly who also signed the valve cover on the Silver Bullet. All great memories now especially if you were fortunate enough to attend my 06th Birthday bash.

We will also have a special M&M contest in honor of Fathers Day coming soon as well. The M & M contest is my way of honoring my Mom who did similar contests for us kids using M&Ms on special occasions. This Fathers Day contest will ONLY be offered to Inner Circle members.

GNX #168 UPDATE -

Currently we have a deposit on this 48,000 mile original GNX. The buyer resides in Florida and the GNX is in Alabama. Due to the buyers traveling schedule the deal will not be completed for 2 weeks. The buyer has 2 other low mileage GNXs.

ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS AND RELATED INFORMATION CONTINUED -

In last week’s issue we show 2 different window stickers, one for a Turbo Regal and the other for a well optioned V8 Regal. Among the options was T-Tops and the half padded thicker roof! This week shows the clever way dealers would tack on various other products or services to bump their profit margin up from the manufacturer's suggested retail price.

This additional sheet would then include “Dealer Installed Options” Course in the case of some of the originally sold GNXs this is where the words Adjusted Market Value would be listed followed by a tack on additional price of several thousand over the suggested retail price in 1987.

Example the one slip shows a total protection package with basically no explanation was listed at $1495. Rust proof was another $695. The huge price of $4,000 was for something that I have no idea what it was for. Total over the $17,705.00 suggested retail price was a hefty $6249.00 additional. Keep in mind whatever state you were, state taxes got added to that number as well as transfer and title fees etc.

The other slip which also was for a Grand National had paint preserver, metal preserver, stone soundproofing undercoat and stone interior protection all added for just $746.00. Custom pinstripe was another $65. The big expense was $1500 titled “additional dealer profit”. At least this dealer was up front with what the $1500 was for!

PHOTO 1 - We show both these labels that would have been attached next to the window sticker on the door glass reflecting the additional costs for these two 1987 Buicks. The one as you can see shows the additional Dealer profit of $1500 as part of the $2311.00.

GM also offered a Protection Plan. It included a small decal to affix inside your quarter window and a credit card size card for your wallet. You also got a brochure explaining what this Protection Plan covered. We picture all three items. The decal has never been removed from the sheet. Also the credit card size ID card has never been removed either. Very rare to have these two items today unused!

Actually your biggest concern back then when the cars were new was theft. A close second would probably be brake failure! I have no idea what GM covered with this GM protection plan as I never read the brochure!. All 4 of these items we have pictured would be extremely rare to have today with your Turbo Regal. They were just not the typical items that would have been saved.

EVERY CAR TELLS A STORY -

Only difference is some are more interesting than others. I am referring to the over 350 Turbo Regals that have passed through my brief ownership over the last 25/30 years. This is the story of one of them that I actually bought and sold 3 times over a course of approximately 7 or 8 years.

What makes this story stand out from most of the sales is the fact I actually owned this same 1987 Grand National 3 times and for the 3rd owner who resided in Arizona I found him a buyer which technically made it 4 times! I also have some of the original records on this car.
About 2 weeks ago the original owner who resided in North Carolina contacted me asking about his Grand National. He would like to locate it and buy it back. His kids are grown and through college. He traded it in at a dealership in Wheeling, West Virginia. A person who worked there happened to be a GS club member and knew me. I made a deal and Trey Crease and I drove out to the dealership to drive the super mint condition original 1987 Grand National back. I let Trey drive it as I had at the time a real nice 1995 M3 BMW. The original owner had virtually everything: a window sticker, a small black book recording all the records. This is besides the usual glove box booklets.

I quickly sold the car. Actually sold it to a person that was only about 20 minutes from my house. (I actually ran into him a few weeks ago in a store as he has a delivery route for a food company!) He instantly recognized me. I told this buyer if you ever want to sell it call me I would buy it back. Car was that caliper. Not sure how much time passed but he contacted me and I bought it back. The second buyer was a cop I believe who resided in North Carolina. He financed the car with his credit union. Again told him the same thing if and when you want to sell it call me. I can't member why but not soon after he contacted me about buying it back. He still owed money on it so besides going to his house to get the car I also had to take a bank check to the credit union to get the title free and clear. I did not want to leave with out the title! I knew the original owner resided in North Carolina and I had his info so I contacted him prior to my trip to see if he was interested in buying it back.

At the time he said he had several kids and expenses just could not swing it. It would have been nice as the car was already in North Carolina. The third buyer was in Fountain Hill, Arizona! Again I told him if and when he wants to sell it I am fairly certain I could get him a buyer! In each case each person maintained the car and kept the little black book with the records. Prior to shipping this car to its third owner in Arizona I wrote on the SPID label “owned 3 times” and my signature. This car was one of a kind in my opinion. As I have never bought and sold the same car three times. I have sold the same car twice a few times, but this was a first for me to have done it three times! Sure enough the 3rd owner called me months later and said he needed to sell it. At the time I had a good friend that at one time lived near us in Pennsylvania and had moved to Arizona. Matter of fact, I had sold his Dads Firebird and his Harley Davidson Ford pick up truck to another collector in the midwest. (He still owns both today)..

Sure enough my buddy Bill Garner who now lives in Arizonabought this 1987 Grand National hardtop. When the original owner contacted me the other week I contacted Bill to see if he had any info on who bought it and perhaps still has the car? This is going back over a dozen years. Turns out he did have the info who he sold it to. He contacted him, who also lived in Arizona. Turns out he sent the car in 2013 to the Las Vegas Barrett Jackson Auction as he had located a GNX to buy. According to him they mentioned my name when the car came up for bidding and also the little blakc book of the records that all 5 owners had kept with the car. He thinks the car then sold for $24,900. I am not sure of the miles on the car but when I had it at one point it had around 44,000 miles on it. According to my paperwork I sent the car to its third owner in Arizona in December 2006.

We have no idea where this Grand National is today. Maybe one of you reading this has it? If so, probably wonder what does 3 times and an unreadable signature on the SPID label mean? The VIN is 1G4GJ117HP459131. Find this car as I am sure the original owner will pay a finders fee. Email me [email protected] I like to bring this story up to date from 2013 to current!

PHOTO 2 - The photo to the left is my flyer when I was selling it for the second time. The car had been driven less than 1,000 miles. Look at the price of just $14,600! The second photo is a copy of the actual window sticker. This is the same dealership that I picked up with Trey originally in Wheeling West Virginia. When I sold it to the first owner in Arizona the car had 45,168 miles on it. What is amazing is that according to my records I owned it first in 1999 with 43,400 miles. When I last sold it to the buyer in Arizona in December 2006 the car had 45,168 miles. So in the space of 7 years and 2 owners the car only went less than 2,000 miles. All documented.

THERE ARE NICE USED CARS AND THEN THERE ARE EXCEPTIONAL USED CARS -

By exceptional the term I refer to these exceptional cars is “Kirban Quality”. We all have searched for a good used car usually done in a hurry because your current car died. Fortunately, because I have several cars I can take my time and seek out the outstanding examples. Miles is never a major concern if the owner has a stash of records, garaged the car etc and so on.

A QUICK WORD ON THE TURBO REGALS WE REPRESENT -

Especially concerning the Turbo Regals. The ones we represent in 99% of the cases are long time customers of ours. In most cases we are the only company advertising the cars for the seller. These are not cars that have been seen by other potential buyers and they turned down as not being worthy. In other words you're getting first shot at buying what we believe is the best example for the price we are asking. We are not selling perfection especially in the case of Turbo Regals that are now over 30 plus years old! But rather the best investment for the money. Each case we do allow some wiggle room on the price as we realize in most cases transporting and taxes is a necessary expense.

We have great success with JJ Best on financing and also deal with a transport broker that is a customer of ours and owns a Grand National. He can get enclosed or open transports in a very quick turn around and a price that in many cases would be hard to beat. What I am saying is we cover all the angles for both the seller and the potential buyer. I know personally I would not want to travel several hundred miles to look at acar that maybe 6 other potential buyers looked at and did not buy for various reasons. I got a lot of experience at not only buying Turbo Regals but other unique performance cars and even regular cars. It’s something I enjoy doing.

WE CAN SELL YOUR CAR -

When the time comes you need to down size or you want to strike while the value is high we have a good success rate at finding buyers. Especially now with Spring and Summer fast approaching. We handle the advertising and answering the questions and weeding out the tire kickers. We never give out the exact location of your car. You decide on the price after any bargaining is done. The money goes directly from the buyer to your bank account. I have a flat commission based on the price span. This format has worked out very well for me for both the buyer and the seller. The buyer has more confidence about the car. The seller is not bothered with phone calls or emails.

Most potential buyers know who I am. So whenever the time comes you want to sell your car, email me the particulars. I can explain the process to you which also allows you to sell the car as well. My email is [email protected] I can also help you determine the price. I can also take in a trade and pay you the seller the difference. I have worked with JJ Best in the past which is quite generous in granting loans. So you have plenty of options. We have sold 3 of the Grand Nationals in the last 6 weeks! For a total of over $135,000. All 3 sellers will gladly give me a good review. We also work with a broker that can handle transport both open and enclosed. This transport broker is a customer of ours and owns personally a 9,000 mile Grand National! He just had the last 3 cars I sold transported to their new homes! The car needs not be a Turbo Regal.

NEED A CAR TRANSPORTED? -

Whether you need an open transport or enclosed transport we highly recommend Sal Hamed. Sal is a broker with a number of transporters and can get you the best price. He knows what you expect as he personally owns a 9,000 mile original Grand National and is a customer of ours. You must use my name when contacting him to get a special price. His email is [email protected] We highly recommend his services!

CANADIAN CUSTOMERS -

Due to the many issues concerning shipping to Canada and the problems that arise when we back order something which costs us more money and also you the customer due to customs we have a new system effective immediately. You must call our office with your order. We will determine what is in stock and put aside for your order. You would only pay for what we have in stock at that point in time. We accept Classified Ads in our weekly Inner Circle emails. Over the years several customers have asked about placing an ad in our weekly Inner Circle.

Here are the options and the costs.

Ads can be from any individual or company. It needs to be automotive related, meaning it does not need to be specifically Turbo Regal related. It can be for something for sale or something wanted.

Maximum number of words is 125 words, which is about 7 to 9 lines of copy. No photos. You can list a website. We recommend you state your name, phone number or email, a price, and your location in your ad.

The cost for an ad for 2 consecutive weeks is $25. The cost for 4 consecutive weeks is $40. You save $10 with the 4-week plan. No changes can be made to your existing running ad. You can only run one ad at any given time. We will have a code system at the end of your ad, so we will know what week number your ad is to run 2 or 4 weeks.

It can be an ad for something for sale or an ad for something you are looking for.
We have never missed a single week since we started the Inner Circle email format in 2009. It’s something I enjoy doing and I just always seem to have enough material to write about.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again.
Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

Remember, the weekly Inner Circle always goes out at 3 pm eastern time so subscribers all have the same equal chance on the Rare Parts. All our parts generally are priced to sell and priced below what others offer. Also our used items are exactly as described. Emails are acknowledged in the order we receive them regardless of when I respond as I am not always by a computer and I only use a flip phone. It's best to email as soon as possible with your request(s) as many of our items sell within the first hour! Do NOT call the office on the listed Rare Parts as you could lose out by someone beating you with an email. Remember if shipping is not noted as included you must pay $15 extra.
