THANZ AGAIN FOR ALL THE EMAILS I RECEIVED CONCERNING THE DEATH OF TIGER -

I just wanted to say thanz again for all the emails I received on the recent passing of Tiger who lived a full life. Even as I type this I still have trouble going to my office. Pets form a strong bond with us humans that care for them.

KIRBAN CUSTOMS AND THE BATMOBILE -

Back in July 1992 one of the Batmobile reproductions was being trailered from the west coast to its new home Six Flags, in New Jersey. They did a stop over at our house on Sugarbottom Road. Darrell had done work for the company that built a number of cars for movies. The local newspaper sent a reporter out to our house and two TV reporters came out as well to cover it for the newscast. Fast forward to current day and Darrell is doing the body work on another Batmobile kit car. This reproduction Batmobile sits on a 1979 Lincoln frame and is powered by a 430 Lincoln V8 engine. Since the Batmobile will be painted black, it is critical that all the sanding is done perfectly since black will show any imperfections in the body work.

PHOTO 2 - That is our first Grand National in the front. Note the Heartbreaker decal across the top of the windshield. We used to get these made years ago. According to the article, I also had our 1964 GTO and the 1991 Syclone as well. Eileen is standing next to me and to the far left is a very young Darrell! The top right photo shows what appears to be a hydroboost brake system which I was surprised to spot under the hood. I guess the hydro boost system was used on a 1979 Lincoln. the front end of this Batmobile kit car he is getting ready to paint. The bottom left photo and the bottom right photo shows two angles of the rear of the Batmobile. According to Darrell it does run. Soon we will post photos after it has been painted.

OUR GMC SYCLONE -

As readers know we recently handled the transaction for a good customer of ours who bought a 10,000 mile original Typhoon. The Typhoon drivetrain was no different than the Syclone. Both have a niche market today among collectors. The Syclone because of the cabin layout is not suitable if you are 6 feet tall or taller. My wife is a tad under 5 feet tall so it was perfect for her. Interesting enough when she took any of her girl friends out they sometimes would remark why does the truck shift so violently? These trucks had a Corvette transmission in them. I remember when she got hit in the front by another car the insurance company did not fully grasp the fact it was not a S-10 and the specific Syclone front end parts were probably double the cost or more!
Of course we had our son repair the truck so no shortcuts were taken.

He made a custom L88 Corvette hood for it and on the scoop we had small Syclone logo decals on the side of the scoop. We also removed the GMC from the grille and installed the later smaller exterior side mirrors. I had my local Midas shop split the exhaust out the back so they exited like true duals. The crowning touch was Darrell made the tailgate power operated. Inside we got rid of the GM shifter and dropped in the factory leather boot a Hurst quarter stick with the white ball. The end result was it looked factory.

Watch for more on our unique 1991 GMC Syclone in later issues.

PHOTO 3 - The top left photo shows one of the few magazine ads GMC did on the Syclone. The top right photo shows a copy of the GMC Press Release with the specs for the new Syclone. The Press Release shows 0-60 times were under 5 seconds and the ¼ mile time was 13.4 seconds. Not bad for a truck weighing in at 3,526 pounds. The bottom left photo shows the actual GMC Syclone prototype that GMC brought to our Reunion event at the Johnsville airbase in 1991. Note the different headlights and decal on the door. The bottom right photo shows the front end of our Syclone with the later sport mirrors and the scaled down L88 hood scoop.

FOR SALE 1987 CORVETTE COUPE WITH JUST 9,800 ORIGINAL MILES -

A long time friend of mine who we have bought and sold cars to each other recently acquired a super mint original 1987 Corvette. This car is well documented and includes the window sticker. Original tires and original 1987 air still in the tires. Kirban quality. It has been garaged since day one. The original owner passed away a few years back. His spouse kept the car garaged. She has since then passed away so the family just sold it to my friend. It is blue on blue. According to my source you would be hard pressed to find a better original example of a 1987 Corvette coupe than this car is. This pristine 1987 Corvette with the glass top is located in New Jersey. This same source has sold me several Turbo Regals and we sold a GNX together years ago.

This example is well optioned including double power seats. Be neat to have a 1987 Turbo Regal and a 1987 Corvette since both cars in 1987 were considered the two quickest GM cars back then. The price is $19,500. For more info and pictures, email me direct [email protected] Partial trades considered.

PHOTO 4 - We show a copy of the original window sticker and several photos of this incredible original 1987 Corvette. Note on the window sticker the leather sport seats was a $1,025 option. The Bose radio was $905 as an option. The final price tag in 1987 was $32,717.00. Almost doubt what a 1987 Turbo Regal cost in 1987. More ironic is a 1987 Turbo Regal if in the same condition and same miles 9,800 would sell for what the 1987 Corvette listed for in 1987, $32,717.

COMING SOON - REPRODUCTION HEADER PANEL & REBUILT POWER STEERING PUMP

We expect to have the new reproduction of the 1984-1987 Turbo Regal (all 1984-1987 Regals) front header panel dropped ship right from our supplier. It is made from the same material as the original and lacks any hole for the ornament. We also discovered that Cardone has a few of the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal power steering pumps in their core system in Texas. We already have some on order. Having a direct account with Cardone gives me a few perks. We recently even found some Corvette boosters and smog pumps for one of our Corvette clients. This is somewhat amazing since the cars are so old and are not getting scrapped.

If either of these items perk your interest call our office and Christina can make a note to email you once either item is available and pricing at that time. The power steering pump on the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal is quite unique as it spins in the opposite direction if I recall. Also some of you have converted to a hydroboost system which puts more strain on the 30 plus year old power steering pump. Stepping up to one that is a fresh rebuild seems like a good backup plan being original power steering pumps are somewhat scarce today.

STOCK APPEARING INTERCOOLER HOSE SETS FINALLY IN STOCK -

These are now finally in stock. Keep in mind when my current supply is depleted, it will be 6 to 8 weeks before I get any more. This set of 3 intercooler hoses look exactly like the original GM ones only slightly thicker and longer to avoid the issues the original 3 intercooler hoses had. A woven like black exterior with orange inside. Part #7553. I think we are the only Turbo Regal supplier of these hoses. The good news is the price remains unchanged at just $44.95 for the set of 3.

REMINDER BE SURE TO CHECK IT OUT LOWER PRICES ON THE FOLLOWING PARTS -

These new lower prices have been changed on our website. The popular #7386 upper dash panel is now just $149.95 plus shipping. The #7222 black 1984-1987 Turbo Regal headlight bezels is now just $139.95 a pair plus shipping. The #7439 rear GM style rear fillers is now just $269.95 for the set plus shipping. The #7440 is the part number for the full front and rear set of fillers. The price for a full set of front and rear GM style fillers is now just $429.95 plus shipping. The savings is approximately $70 when you purchase a full set of GM style front and rear fillers.

PONTIAC G8 GT STILL FOR SALE -

The 2009 Pontiac G8 GT is still available for sale. Only made these a very few years. This G8 GT is powered by the 6.0 litre engine. These cars are extremely quick. I drove one years ago. This G8 GT is the popular color silver exterior with the two tone red and black seats. The car only has 72,000 miles on it and also has a clean carfax. The car looks virtually new from any angle. Even with the low front spoiler no scraps that I saw. No curb rash on the wheels. The dealer wants $17,700. For more info email me directly [email protected] I can go check it out for any interested buyer.

HERE ARE TWO MORE RARE ITEMS FOR SALE -

In both cases I have more photos available and can provide the email address for the seller. He only wants serious buyers. First is a brand new never worn GNX JACKET. The size is XXL. It is very hard to find the bigger size original GNX jackets. The price tag for this mint XXL unused GNX jacket is $2995. With the GNX prices continuing to rise this is one item most potential buyers always ask the seller if they have the jacket. Email me personally [email protected] I can provide seller information.

This same seller has a fully restored #5 1989 Turbo Trans Am Festival car for sale. The suspension has all been redone Metco control arms, tubular front cross member, race shocks front and rear. Transmission stage built by Jimmy's Transmission, 3 bullet deep pan 9,5 race convertor. New carpet and new headliner. Cloth Interior with T-Tops. Engine has been worked scat crankshaft, JE forged pistons, ARP bolts, factory heads and intake ported, Precision plenum 70mm, PT67 turbo with 3 inch downpipe and custom 3 inch exhaust. Every part on the engine has been powder coated. I LT 3.5 inch maf sensor, 60lb injectors, Walbro fuel pump, hotwired, Jet coated headers. Plus more! NEW LOWER PRICE. The price tag is $26,495 OBO possible trades considered. Email me personally [email protected] I can provide seller information. As well as more photos.

UPDATE ON REBUILDING OLDERS ALTERNATORS, GENERATORS, & STARTERS -

My source just rebuilt for one of our customers his 1967 GTO alternator. He put the proper size pulley on it. All new external plated hardware and new internals. The proper cad plated fan and pulley. Originally the GTO alternator put out 37 amps and now puts out 68 amps when he bench tested it. So that is quite an improvement besides having new internals and a factory new appearance. The price for this rebuild service is just $179.95 plus shipping.

MORE HURST TRIVIA -

As many of my readers know I have a wealth of information about Hurst since they originated in my area when I was growing up. While Hurst diversified their product line up it is the 4-speed shifter that made the mark in the automotive field. Note: Equally important was their invention of the “Jaws of Life” power tool to save lives! I think it is ironic the H pattern for the 4-speed shifter was the first letter in George’s last name. In case you're wondering, George always loved the Oldsmobile as his favorite GM car. That probably explains why the Hurst Olds was created. There is no doubt the Pontiac account brought in the most money of all the GM divisions that eventually used his shifters. Ford and Chrysler also did as well. I used to tow for the local Dodge dealer in the 1970s and I clearly remember some new Dodge models being driven over to Hurst to get used as test beds for new shifters. Especially the GTO as the four speed tri-power format in 1964-1966 was on almost every teenage boy's wish list. I know when I was serving in Vietnam in 1966-67, I knew once I returned I was going to buy a 4-speed 1964-1966 GTO. Which I did. A 1964 GTO 4-speed. In 1970 Eileen would get her first job as my wife working at Hurst driving the 1964 GTO to work each day.

Hurst was created at the right time with the new 4-speed shifters. The magazine coverage of the first year GTO was all positive reviews. GTOs also had 3-speed floor shifters which I believe was a Ford transmission. It is just unfortunate that the 1964 GTO model Hurst was not permitted to put their name on the chrome stick. They could promote the fact it was their shifter in ads, but not put their name on the stick. The other set back is Pontiac used their own shifter linkage which was not as positive or firm as the threaded rods that Hurst used. This was probably to save money and was quicker to assemble on the assembly lines. Again that is my guess as I obviously was not working at the Pontiac plant in 1964! However by doing this it created a great product that I would later sell to GTO collectors and that would be the KPO kit which was the better Hurst threaded shifter rods with new clips etc. I even had the original directions to go with the linkage kits. With the plant in my neighborhood it made buying directly a real breeze.

This snub by Pontiac reminds me of a similar situation a few years back when we got corvette 6-speed shifters made for the new C5 Corvettes. We supplied one of the most respected names in the aftermarket Corvette world, yet I could not mention them in my advertisements as buyers of my Kirban Corvette shifters. They advertised my shifter as their custom shifter. Ironically we still make a part for them today!

As I think of more history related to Hurst I will do future articles. I have done seminars on Hurst at various car events as it gives car collectors information that many have no idea about to what at one time was the best in their field.

COLLECTOR CAR COLLECTION UPDATE - 3 TURBO REGALS & 1 SYCLONE -

All these are still available. The 1986 blue T-Type and the 1987 Grand National he purchased brand new. He is the 3rd owner of the white 1987 Turbo-T. These cars are located in Tennessee.

In each case he has the original parts that he removed years ago when the modifications were done. Some of them have the very desirable AVC GNX style dash installed. In each case email me [email protected] and let me know which car interests you. I can forward you more photos and supply you with the email address to the seller.

All the below cars have been fitted with SECO alarm systems and keyless entry. In my opinion the blue 1986 T-Type is a fairly rare car due to its color. Plus it has low miles. All these cars have always been in Tennessee so rust is not an issue. All have been garaged most of their life.

He has a white 1987 Turbo Regal with T-Tops. He did not buy this car brand new. It has the M & A Casting aluminum heads on them that were introduced in the early 1990s time frame. I had one of the first sets on our personal Grand National. Back then they sold for around $2500 a set. This car has been raced and has run in the high 6 second range for the ⅛ mile. The car is slightly twisted due to its racing history and the fact it has T-Tops. Mileage is about 75,000. The price is $25,000 OBO.

The 1987 Grand National he purchased this car brand new and has 112,000. It has the rare astro roof option. It was repainted many years ago 1984 Corvette firemist color. Reasonably priced at $20,000 OBO.

The light blue Turbo Regal is a 1986 T-Type Regal. He purchased this car brand new. Due to the original poor quality paint job he actually had the Buick dealership respray the car under warranty. Internally stock with zero rust. Car has approximately 67,000 miles. It is a hardtop. The price is $25,000 OBO.

He also purchased the Syclone brand new. Like all the others listed here this also has been garaged since new. Mileage is approximately 9,500. The price is $44,900 OBO. The last three digits of the VIN is 294 which I believe is also the number of the Syclone produced.

For more photos on any of these three Turbo Regals and the Syclone email me directly [email protected] and specify which car perks your interest.

In most cases, we have no idea when we are getting packages shipped back to us.

If you have any cores that are being sent back to us, be sure to use the correct address, especially if you use FedEx. Otherwise, we may not receive your package or it may be sent back to you.

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
NEW FRONT SWAY BAR BOLTS (4) SET

One of the unique bolts is the ones that secure the two metal brackets that hold the front sway bar to the frame.

After over 30 years, these unique bolts become rusted. One of our long-time customers researched the bolts and found a source that makes these unique bolts.

Bolts are Grade 12.9, which have a minimum tensile strength of 180,000 psi and are coated to prevent rust.

These are 12 point flange bolts. These have a slightly different shoulder, but still work.
Our photo shows four original rusted bolts at the top and four new replacement bolts at the bottom.

NOTE - A special thanks to David Stecko for providing us with this information.

“KIRBAN CUSTOMS INC.
HINTS & TIPS FOR BUYING AND BUILDING KIT CARS” Book

We are offering an interesting book, written by my son Darrell Kirban in 2000, relating to the auto kit car builders market. His skills for painting, body work and custom design work started at a very early age.

“KIRBAN CUSTOMS INC. HINTS & TIPS FOR BUYING AND BUILDING KIT CARS” gives useful and practical information based on the many kit car projects and years of experience he has designing and building kit cars.

The book measures 6″ x 9″, has over 100 pages, and 22 chapters with over 150 photos and illustrations.

Some of the chapter titles include: Choosing and Preparing the Donor Car, Choosing a Quality Kit, Wheels and Offsets, Useful Tools for Your Project, Hinging and Latching Panels, Mounting the Body, Basic Fiberglass Techniques, Bodywork, Interiors, Paint, Finishing Touches, Insurance and Appraisals, and Related Magazines.

If you are interested in kit cars, you’ll enjoy this book as Darrell has a knack for writing so the average person can understand the procedures. You may also know someone that is interested in kit cars and this would be a great gift item for them. Limited supplies available.

NOTE - Our copies will be autographed by Darrell Kirban while supplies last.

If you already have my book, “Kirban’s Guide to the 1986 and 1987 Buick Turbo Regals,” (part #6757) you could own books from two generations of Kirbans. You could also go to eBay and find one of my dad’s books (search Salem Kirban.) He wrote over 50 books on Bible prophecy and health. This would give you books spanning three generations.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING -

We were recently contacted by two sources that once the winter weather ends hopefully we can strike a deal on a bunch of parts that both these sellers have accumulated over a number of years. In one case the individual has passed away. In the other instance the seller recently turned 80 years young. Will have more info on both deals once Spring gets here and it can’t be sooner enough! A solid week of temps never getting above freezing mark.

Please, if you have any original 1986-1987 Turbo Regal turbos, cash them in with us for the $175 Letter of Credit. This helps us help our customers obtain the rebuilt turbo they need for their car.
