03-07-2018 Inner Circle

Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 03-07-2018 -

IMPORTANT - EARLY INNER CIRCLE TODAY -

You are receiving the Inner Circle today, one day early. We are expecting another nor’easter tomorrow (Wednesday) so our office will be closed.

UPDATE ON OUR PERSONAL WHITE 1987 -

Our potential buyer arrived last Tuesday night with a friend. Their flight was almost 2 hours late from Texas. I bought them dinner with the understanding, if the car was every bit as nice as I claimed, they would buy me breakfast the next morning. I had the car up on my lift in the garage, covered so he could examine the underside Tuesday night and then Wednesday morning take it for a test drive.

His big concern was to make sure the car had no rust issues. After his inspection Tuesday night, the car met all his expectations. He could not believe how clean my car was inside, outside, and underneath.

I then met him and his friend Wednesday morning near his motel for my “free” breakfast, which he was happy to pay for! We then went back to my house and he took the car for a test drive. He did some nice hard pulls with the car to make sure it performed like he remembered his car did years ago. My car did not disappoint. He was amazed at how tight and rattle free my 83,000-mile Turbo-T was.

Keep in mind, it had not been driven since April of last year. At one point, he was even thinking about driving it back to Texas! By the next day, he had a transport truck lined up and that Friday I met the transport truck in a parking lot near our house at 8:30 in the morning. It was pouring as we were on the verge of getting hit with that nor’easter storm that struck mid-day Friday.

That storm caused havoc up and down the east coast and knocked out power at our house until late Saturday afternoon.

In my haste, I failed to take any photos of Bob and myself with his newly-acquired Turbo-T that Wednesday. He had me autograph my Owner’s Manual, which also has Molly’s signature on it. I think I gave him 5 sets of keys along with a few extra parts and a brand new car cover!

PHOTO 1 - Here are 4 photos of the transport company loading my white Turbo-T in a rain storm to go to Texas. It is pretty cool how the cars get loaded to the top shelf with ease.

MORE POWERMASTER BRAKE INFORMATION -

Last week we touched on the various brake reservoirs, brake accumulator bowls and the brake switches. It was the brake switch that had the almost immediate recall from Buick. Finding an original black brake switch today is almost impossible.

I remember when I was selling these cars in the early 1990s. Anytime I purchased one with the black brake switch, I would give the dealer the VIN number and, if it showed the recall still open, I got a new brake switch for free.

The recall number was 87-C13. This was a Safety Recall since it related to the brake system. In my literature collection, I have 3 different letters from Buick that they sent out to owners to make sure they would have the matter taken care of. This was done at no charge to the owner.

PHOTO 2 - The photo to the left we show two different postcards that dealers sent to Turbo Regal owners. These are dated September and October 1990. In the photo to the right we show two letters Buick also sent. One is dated August 1990 and the other letter is dated November 1990.

Once the recall was done at the dealership, a small sticker was attached to the radiator core support usually to the right of the belt routing decal on the driver’s side. It would be dated to show the recall was done.

PHOTO 3 - The photo to the left shows this recall decal on my white Turbo-T. The photo to the right shows another postcard Buick sent out for you to send back if you scrapped the vehicle, or if the name or address is not correct, or if you never owned the car, or if the car was stolen and not recovered.

In other words, Buick covered all bases to make sure nobody was still driving a Turbo Regal with a powermaster brake unit with the black brake switch.

I like how they worded the letter stating, “If left uncorrected, these vehicles may exhibit a hard brake pedal or increased brake pedal travel.” In other words, the car may be impossible to stop!

LIGHT BLUE 1987 TURBO-T -

I know at some point in the past I have mentioned that one of the rare Turbo-T colors was light blue. I can vaguely recall of the 325-plus Turbo Regals that have passed through my hands, maybe just 2 or 3 of them were light blue.

PHOTO 4 - I found this photo of one of them. I had a 1987 model with the desirable black-out option. This car appears to be all original. It must have been a Pennsylvania car as it has the Pennsylvania inspection stickers on it. Outside of the white Turbo-Ts, the light and dark blue models are very desirable, in my opinion. This is especially true if they have the blue interior.

UPDATE ON ANOTHER CLEVER NEW PRODUCT COMING SHORTLY -

My friend, who has a shop directly across from us, has made a clever product that we plan to market for him. This product works on any car as a clever form of protection when storing your car or truck. No other company makes this exact same product that can protect your car when it is stored. We recently tried his prototype and he is making a few changes on it so it will be better than his prototype. Watch for updates shortly. It’s a pretty cool product that serves a useful function.

UPDATE TWO COLLECTIBLE VEHICLES FOR SALE -

Currently we have two buyers, both want to buy both vehicles. The Harley truck has less than 2,000 miles on it and the Firebird Formula has just under 3,000 miles on it. I hope to see the Firebird Formula this week in person and take photos. The Harley truck runs and drives and the plan is to get it to my shop. If either deal falls through, we will let our readers know. Watch for photos possibly next week. However, it appears both of these vehicles have been sold.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU -

About three weeks ago, I met with a person that has developed a very interesting product that has been on the market for a while. He already has two companies in two different fields of operation, both of which are the biggest in the field using his product exclusively. This is quite an accomplishment. We already have samples of this product on hand.

We are working out the details so we can be a distributor for this local company. This product is superior to all the competition with no downsides! If you work or own any new or used car dealership, clean out houses for estate sales, or work or own an automotive detail business, email me direct - [email protected] -for more details as they become available.

CUSTOM-MADE GM LICENSED VINYL BANNERS UPDATE-

Finally, some progress to report, The GNX banner they submitted for GM approval has been approved. They still have to get approval for the Grand National and Buick Motorsports banners. All designs we submitted to the company that has the GM license for Buick/Oldsmobile/Pontiac. We hope to have all of these banners on display at our Spring Open House in April. I should have a GNX banner shortly with pricing.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

1985-1987 Buick GRAND NATIONAL -
ONE-PIECE BUCKET SEAT COVER

Because the original grey and black pallex Grand National seat material is so costly, here is a simple and inexpensive method to protect it.

We offer a one-piece form-fitting seat cover for the front bucket seat. No tools are required and it’s easy to clean. You simply slide it over the seat. It can be removed easily.

This seat cover has the same two-color color (black and grey) design, so it looks like it was made specifically for the Grand National.

The durable and breathable material is double nylon mesh cloth with 2mm thick sponge in the middle. The spandex back provides a universal fit that conforms to the Grand National’s bucket seat.

It’s an inexpensive investment to protect your Grand National bucket seats from damage.
To purchase one cover, order #7821. To order two covers, order #7822.

Another excellent way to protect the seats.

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me direct - [email protected] - I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

REMEMBER - On all the above letter parts, the price shown is the total price you pay. The more letter items you buy, the better the deal is for you. Many of these mini package deals are the little items you may need to make your car like new again. This is especially true concerning the radio knobs and the push buttons for the cassette option.

IN CLOSING -

Let’s hope we have seen the last of bad weather for our area. It has rained every single weekend for the last 5 weeks!
