04-22-2015 Inner Circle

Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 04-22-2015

OUR SPRING OPEN HOUSE A HUGE SUCCESS -

The weather was absolutely picture perfect for the entire day with the temperature reaching a high of 81 degrees. It was the warmest day so far this year!

We had about 60+ cars in attendance and probably 150-175 people. This was probably our biggest Open House event since my birthday bash in 2007. We had several first-time customers attend, including Brandon and Tiffany Chance from Ohio. Coming from Illinois was Jack Anderson and Brian Wunderle. We also had several people come from Canada as well.

SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR GUESTS, VOLUNTEERS AND STAFF -

We would like to thank everyone for coming and helping to make our Open House a success.

THANKS to Richard Clark and John Norton from North Carolina. They introduced their new book and we available for some tech advice - “POWERMASTER BRAKE SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR GUIDE - For 1985 thru 1987 Buick Turbo Regal, Grand National, GNX, T-Type, and Turbo-T.”

THANKS to Nick Micale from Arizona.

THANKS to Mike Barnard, Spoolfool Productions from California. He also donated a rear spoiler for the raffled.

THANKS to Terry Shaw - Auto Legal Services - Appraisal Information.

THANKS to those that helped at our event, especially Russ and Nancy for providing all the food, doing all the cooking, and serving. Their brunch menu was a hit! They even had bread pudding and whipped cream for dessert. They purchase and donate all the food and their time. All of the donations collected at the food tables go to the Molly Scholarship Fund for their daughter Brooke. Thanks also to their helpers - Don, Alex Gonzalez and his daughter Amber.

THANKS to John Follweiler for buying and bringing all the drinks.

THANKS to Bob and Liddy Lanning for the box of Philadelphia Soft pretzels.

THANKS to Melissa Cotter for taking photos during the day and Layla for picking the raffle tickets.

THANKS to our staff - Christina and Carrie for processing the orders. Pete, and John for handling the questions and getting the parts ready for customers, and Dave for selling my parts. I would like to thank our granddaughter Devyn and her boyfriend Edward for handling the raffle, 50/50 drawing, and M&Ms contest. Thanks to Christina for also picking up the YumYum donuts. Also my wife Eileen for all the prep work involved and displays.

THANKS to Jason Maxwell from Canada. He comes to every Open House and helps us wherever needed. Without the help of these people an event of this magnitude would be impossible to put on.

THANKS to the Magna Club for helping to promote the Open House locally and providing a place for their members to meet and enjoy the Buick community.

THANKS to all the companies and individuals that donated items for our raffle. All the money collected in the raffles is donated to the Molly Scholarship Fund.

PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows an early 1970s half-ton Chevy pickup truck that is powered by a 1986-1987 Turbo engine. The photo to the top right shows the turbo engine, which fit nicely in the engine bay of the Chevy truck, according to the owner. The bottom left photo shows the highly-detailed engine with one of our Grand National Panda Bears we used to sell sitting on top of it. These Grand Panda bears were quite popular years ago and sold for less than $20 each. The bottom right shows the steering column with the Scanmaster mounted with our special column Scanmaster bracket we sell. This custom-made Scanmaster Mounting Bracket, part #7496, sells for $29.95.

PHOTO 3 - The top left shows Mike Barnard behind the table. John Norton can be seen in the middle of the photo behind the table also in the bright blue shirt. The top right photo shows the delicious brunch being served by Nancy and Amber. The bottom left photo shows Derek Freyberger and his son Dennis with me in the middle. I think both of them could easily lift up the back end of any Turbo Regal! The bottom right photo shows Alex Gonzalez from New York on the right winning the Spoolfool rear spoiler and Mike Barnard (owner of Spoolfool) on the left.

PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows Archie after he won the 50/50 cash prize of almost $250. The top right photo shows the Magna Club setup in the parking lot. The bottom left photo shows the happy winner of TA Performance pair of cast Buick Valve covers, a $250 value. The bottom middle photo shows Brian Wunderle, who came out here from Illinois and won a box of Godiva chocolates. I just hope they did not melt in the 80-degree heat before he got home! The bottom right photo shows a happy Spoolfool T-shirt recipient.

We also like to thank all of you that attended our Spring Open House.

The event left us totally exhausted the next day!

There was an unfortunately incident at our event this year - a first. One of our customer’s had just purchased a Spoolfool one-piece filler and put it in his car along with some other items he purchased. When they went back to their car, the filler had been taken. If you’ve ever come to our Open House events, you know we are off the main road in a nice country area, and only Buick enthusiasts come. We were shocked that someone would do this to another Buick owner at a Buick community event. So, we are sharing the information only to remind people that you should take care to lock any personal items in your car at any event. If it can happen here, it can happen anywhere.

MINI-MULTI FUNCTION JUMPER MODULE -

I just got in several samples of the new mini multi-function jumper module, model #U3. It is the identical size of a typical smart phone. It weighs less than 8 ounces! It even has a tinted clear plastic face on it. It has 4 blue lights to indicate available power. It has a 3-function LED flashlight. A 4-in-1 harness to charge various electronic devices, and a set of jumper cables for jumping any 12-volt vehicle comes with it. It also comes with both a wall charger and a car charger. This unit is rated at 200 cranking amps and 400 peak amps. It is capable of starting about 8-10 vehicles, on a single charge, 4 or 6 cylinder engine as well as any 12-volt motorcycle, snowmobile, or tractor etc.

This mini one is the perfect size for a woman to carry in their purse or for a motorcyclist to carry. It’s the perfect electronic device companion to charge most electronic devices without being tied to a wall charger or a car charger. Also if needed to jumpstart most vehicles.

We have a new order of these due in the next 10-15 days. We have a special introductory price on this new mini multi-function Jumper module of just $69.95 and free UPS ground shipping! This price is only good until Friday, May 20, 2015. The suggested retail price will be higher. We would not charge your credit card until we ship it.

You can email me if you want to see a photo of the unit – [email protected]

CUSTOM-MADE BATTERY JUMPER WIRE HARNESS -

Now that we have a mini multi function jumper harness it becomes more practical for a motorcyclist to have if they also buy this harness for their bike. We now have a custom-made battery jumper wire harness that will fit on virtually every motorcycle, ATV, or snowmobile. We made it the correct length so it can be hardwired to the 12 volt battery and be able to get to the male connector if you need to jump start your bike. On some late model motorcycles you can be almost one-hour removing parts just to get to the battery. You also need to have the proper tools with you if your battery was to fail. All the various hand held battery jumper modules have the same one way blue male and female connectors. This custom-made wire harness takes the worry out of ever being stranded on a motorcycle with a dead battery.

It’s one of those products that you will be glad you have, yet hope you never have to use it! It has a one-way circuit breaker in the positive wire so only power can go to your battery. No power can come from your battery when it is not in use. This clever product now makes those hand held battery jumper modules useful for motorcycle owners. If you own a motorcycle shop or ATV shop we are looking for dealers. Our part number is #7643. These are in stock. The retail price is just under $25 each. Email me [email protected] for more details.

DEVYN, OUR GRANDDAUGHTER, DRIVES OUR TURBO-T -

The Sunday before our Open House, our granddaughter Devyn got to drive our Turbo-T for the first time. Something unusual happened…

While cruising by our house, the car suddenly shut off. I could not get it started. It cranked and had fuel. I think the problem was ignition related.

I had it towed to my mechanic and gave him both a new ignition module and a new crank sensor. I knew both parts were probably still original on our car. Naturally, the car started right up when he got it and then it died again. I can’t say for sure what the issue actually was because the fuel gauge also showed just under a ¼ tank of gas by the time they were done trying to check out the problem. Under further testing, the car would sputter under boost. All this cleared up once the crank sensor and ignition module was installed and $25 of fresh gas was put in the tank. I will know better once I start to drive it with the nice weather finally coming!

My mechanic lost track of the number of people that stopped and inquired about the car while it was down at his shop!

Next, I want to take her out in my little 1996 Ford Ranger, which is a 5-speed 4-cylinder manual truck so she can know how to drive a stick. That little truck has proven to be the best $2,800 investment I have.

GM-STYLE FRONT FILLERS #7438 - OUT OF STOCK -

We were just informed that the GM-style front fillers, part #7438, are out of stock from our supplier and we don't expect to have them available until late May. We currently have the rears in stock.

GNX #331 - FOR SALE -

I was able to get back to take better photos of GNX #331 earlier this week. We pulled the car outside.

There are 3 small outward dings in the quarter panels from something being in the trunk.

The front fillers are cracked and need to be replaced. The rear filler seem to be fine.

Because of cob webbing in the paint, the front header panel should be repainted, since the rest of the body and paint is exceptional. The interior is absolutely pristine. Even the door panels and steering wheel show virtually no wear at all.

The motor is whisper quiet. The gas tank is still silver. In talking to Jean, the owner, she has agreed to lower the price to $46,900. She has only driven it a few hundred miles in the last 1-2 years. The car needs a new home. You would be hard pressed to find a better deal for this price. It has had the same original owner since 1989.

Currently we have someone very interested in this GNX. For more information and photos contact me - [email protected]

GNX #387 SELLS FOR $165,000 -

The below information comes from Ron Mukalian. The GNX had just 362 actual miles. I am sure the price had to make the seller quite happy! This would be a new record paid for a GNX. Makes the one I am selling a real bargain, and also one the new owner can enjoy without spending a small fortune!

The three-piece is an exact duplicate of the original three-piece design and the one-piece is the same format only attaches to the trunk lid and sits above the top of both quarter panels. Done in high-gloss black gelcoat, the quality is the same quality as his front fillers and one-piece rear filler.

We have an urgent need for powermaster cores, steering wheel cores, and turbo cores.

Here is the information on our credits for cores.

ORIGINAL GM AC DELCO HEATER WATER VALVE -

Our supplier was able to locate a few more of these original brand new AC Delco heater water valves. You must call our office to order one - 215-766-1611 x 0. The price is $60 plus shipping. It appears this AC Delco heater water valve will be discontinued from GM and AC Delco. It doesn’t appear that we will be getting any more of theses.

VEHICLES FOR SALE -

From time to time, whenever we spot an unusual or an exceptional car or truck for sale, or one we have for sale, we will put a blurb in our weekly Inner Circle. Also any cars that our customers have for sale will be featured here and you can see their car with photos on our website. In this category we will run the descriptions for two to three weeks and, if there is no interest in that particular vehicle, it will be deleted the following week. Any new vehicles that we add will appear first, so the oldest listing would be at the end of this section.

If any of these vehicles perk your interest, email me personally - [email protected] - for more information and photos.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

“POWERMASTER BRAKE SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR GUIDE - For 1985 thru 1987 Buick Turbo Regal, Grand National, GNX, T-Type, and Turbo-T” Book by Richard Clark and John Norton

“POWERMASTER BRAKE SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR GUIDE - For 1985 thru 1987 Buick Turbo Regal, Grand National, GNX, T-Type, and Turbo-T” Book by Richard Clark and John Norton is an excellent reference Guide to have in your reference library.

It would also be a great gift for your mechanic.

This very detailed manual took over three years to do. Even if you lack mechanical skills, this Guide is worth having to share with your mechanic. It is full of highly-detailed photos and charts, showing all of the possible problems and solutions for diagnosing a powermaster brake unit. Everything can be done using basic hand tools. The Guide runs 90 pages in length.

Here are some of the chapters: Major Component Descriptions and Nomenclature, Powermaster Characteristics During Normal Operation, Common Problems and Which Tests to Run to Address Each One, Flowcharts to Help Diagnose Problems Correctly, The Major Components and How to Test Each One, Maintenance, Tools and Accessories, and Vendor List and Contact Information.

It is spiral bound for easy reading when you are working on the powermaster. As long as the electric motor is not burned out, everything else is available for you to repair a powermaster on your own with this handy Guide.

They also have made all the various O-rings that you need to rebuild a powermaster brake unit. In some cases, they had to have parts reproduced. For example, GM sold just one of the O-rings in the kit for over $30 each. This Powermaster Reproduction O-rings (14) kit is only $39.95, part #7676.

I don't think anyone has more experience with powermaster brake units than Richard Clark. Over the years, he has even made special testing equipment for not only the powermaster brake units but also for other electronic parts found in the Turbo Regals.

He worked with John Norton to compile this easy-to-follow and informative powermaster repair Guide, so you can become better educated on powermasters and not be stressed out the first time the brake light comes on!

Our photos show the cover and a two-page spread in the book.

1985-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
POWERMASTER REPRODUCTION O-RINGS (14) KITS

Richard Clark has painstakingly put together this kit of reproduction O-rings specifically for the Turbo Regal power master.

Each kit consists of 14 O-rings, some of which Richard has reproduced to make this a complete kit for the entire powermaster brake unit. It includes not only the O-rings for the brake switch and accumulator bowl, but also the very important power piston sleeve, check valve body master cylinder, etc.

Each package includes a real-size drawing to ensure that the correct O-rings can be easily identified for the proper application. The O-rings should match the drawings exactly.

Since GM has discontinued many of the Buick O-rings, Richard has had to have some of the O-rings reproduced. In one particular case, the O-ring listed for over $30 from GM, making this kit a bargain.

A must have item for any 1986-1987 Turbo Regal owner. You should have this kit on hand in case you have issues with the powermaster.

NOTE - We recommend these O-rings be installed by a qualified mechanic.

Great powermaster restoration items.

1984-1988 GM G-Body - All Models (Including Buick Turbo Regal)
HEATER/AC CONTROL CLUSTER LIGHT AND SHIFTER INDICATOR LIGHT AFTERMARKET LED LIGHT BULBS (2) SET

These aftermarket LED bulbs will replace the heater and shifter light bulbs.

Your car has to have the floor mounted console. This upgrade will now give you a crisp white light for the heater control and the shifter indicator. Unfortunately on the heater/AC control GM only had a single light socket towards the one side.

Both LEDs are easy to install.

LEDS draw less amperage and they do not get hot. LED lights greatly increase the amount of light over the stock glass bulbs, draws far less amperage, and does not generate the extreme heat like the original glass bulbs.

Our first photo shows the LED bulbs.

Our second photo shows the Heater/AC control dash cluster.

Our third photo shows the Shifter Indicator.

NOTE - The round LED bulb may look slightly different than the bulb shown in the photos, depending on our supplier.

This would give you a complete kit of LED interior lights.

Excellent replacement items for any interior restoration.

1984-1987 Buick Regal - All Models (including Buick Turbo Regal) -
REPRODUCTION DASH CONNECTOR SEALING GASKET

Over time, water can enter the interior due to a deteriorating dash connector sealing gasket. This can potentially create rust and water damage to the driver’s side floor and surrounding materials.

This new reproduction dash connector sealing gasket fixes the problem. It restores a weather-tight seal to the harness feed-thru location.

This is a critical gasket, since it’s for the dash bulkhead.

GM has discontinued the actual connectors.

If you are restoring the interior, this is the time to check to see if you need this part.

The gasket comes with very detailed directions.

Our first picture shows the actual gasket and the second photo shows the general area (indicated by a red oval) where this gasket is used.

Another great interior restoration item.

1984-1988 GM G-Body - All Models (Including Buick Turbo Regal) -
AFTERMARKET LED UNDER-THE-DASH INTERIOR LIGHT BULBS (3) SET & LED TRUNK or UNDER-THE-HOOD LIGHT BULB

This aftermarket LED under-the-dash interior light kit will replace both of the under-the-dash factory lights to the upgraded LED format.

GM used two different styles of sockets under the dash. It used a slotted socket on the driver’s side and a regular round socket on the passenger’s side.

This kit includes 1 round LED bulb for the passenger’s side and 2 of the slotted LED lights for the driver’s side. This will give you 1 extra slotted LED light. You can use this to replace the stock bulb for the license plate light in most cars. Because of its flat face, the LED will fit in the housing for the license plate light.

You can also purchase an extra passenger’s side LED light, if you want to upgrade the trunk light since it takes the same LED bulb. The same LED bulb will also work for the under-the-hood light.

LED lights greatly increase the amount of light over the stock glass bulbs, draws far less amperage, and does not generate the extreme heat like the original glass bulbs.

Our top left photo shows the original bulbs in the housings, and these replacement LED bulbs.

Our top right photo shows a single LED bulb, which can be purchased separately as a trunk or under-the-hood light bulb, Part #7664.

Our lower left photo shows the interior driver’s side.

Our lower right photo shows the interior passenger’s side.

NOTE - The round LED bulb may look slightly different than the bulb shown in the photos, depending on our supplier.

NOTE - The slotted LED bulb in #7663 will fit the driver’s side under-the-dash interior light or the license plate light on most GM G-Body cars. The round LED bulb #7664 will fit the passenger’s side under-the-dash interior light, the trunk light, or the under-the-hood light.

We also recommend you check out our Aftermarket LED Interior Light Panel, Part #7661. This would give you a complete kit of LED interior lights.

Excellent replacement items for any interior restoration.
