GNX #331 - FOR SALE - UPDATE -

I ended up buying GNX #331 last week. Jean, the owner, just wanted to sell the car as quick as possible as other friends and even her mail carrier kept bugging her about the car.

I actually took title on the car and should have the title back in my name in about 10 days. The good news is the new price is $43,900 firm. That price includes a new set of the reproduction GM quality front fillers and a set of our plug wires, a $225 value. Also, the new owner gets 10% off any parts from our website for the first 30 days.

Now that I own the GNX, I can provide a lot more details on this amazing example. The car is not perfect, but it is exceptional. Just towing it home on an open trailer I had a dump truck driver stop when I was fueling my truck to look it over and he was amazed it had 95,900 miles on it. There are 3 or 4 minor outward dings down low on the rear quarter panels. Otherwise car is straight as an arrow.

Here is more info on this amazing GNX. As reported, Jean was the sole driver. She is now 80 years young. Car has two sets of keys, and one set was never used. She only got caught in the rain in few times. Car was never used in the snow or bad weather, so underneath of the car is very nice. I have about 60 service records, all in year order. This includes every state inspection since 1989. The AC Delco battery is not even a year old. New heater hoses, new radiator hoses, new water valve, new pan gasket, new brake hoses - this is just some of the more recent repairs. One record shows that the miles in 2002 were 84,000. It now shows it has 95,900… that means in the last 13 years she only drove it 11,000 miles.

Here are some amazing facts. The spare has never been used, the jack has never been used, the cigarette lighter has never been used, the turn signal stalk is mint, the back bumper I could box it and sell it as a new bumper - it is that nice including the rubber strip on it. The carpets show no fade, no wear, no holes, no rips, and retains the black sheen! The driver’s seatbelt looks brand new, like she never ever used it. Headliner and visors have been redone. Power antenna has been redone, the AC compressor is new, and everything works. The brake pedal pad shows such little wear I did not replace it. Horn center is perfect not cracked, and the console appliqué is like new. Even the original shifter handle is close to mint, not cracked or broken! I replaced two items in the interior, one strap cap, and one radio knob, which was missing the silver disc insert.

Car is bone dry underneath. No leaks. This car has been garaged both day and night since 1989. The interior is as close to new as you will ever see. Even the doorsill weatherstrips are close to mint. Both doors shut like it was brand new. Upper dash panel lays flat, but has one small 1/8th inch crack in it. Horn center is perfect. Driver’s door panel is perfect. She had no bad habits. Turbo is the GNX turbo. I checked - the VIN number matches the engine block and transmission. Even the chrome on the three dash AC vents still look like new. The screen is still in the intercooler.

Remember, the very first GNX we sold in 2000 had 175,000 miles on it. This is one you can drive and enjoy. If you maintain it like she did, it can only increase in value.

Car comes with a new GNX hardbound book (not numbered), GNX Owner’s Manual, 1987 Regal Owner’s Manual, and the other small booklets in the glove box. Buyer gets proof (copy) showing it was titled back in 1989 until last week, and then titled to me, Dennis Kirban. I will also include a blank copy of the ASC Window Sticker. She never got the Buick, or the ASC Window Sticker, the numbered GNX book, or the GNX jacket, as they bought it used in 1989 with 10,000 miles on it.

All the records back up everything I say about the history of this unique GNX.

NOTE - We currently have a deposit on this GNX.

I took a photo holding an AC Delco oil filter reflecting off the rear bumper. You can read the label on the oil filter. That is how nice the rear bumper is. Not one mark on the bumper where you put the gas in! If you call our office, you can even ask Pete about this GNX, as he has looked it over as well.

PHOTO 1 - The top left photo shows the GNX loaded on my open trailer in front of her house. Her husband built that house in the mid-1960s and it looks like it was built a dozen years ago. The top right photo shows the GNX in my pole building with the GNX mural on the wall behind it. The bottom left photo shows the reflection of the rear bumper of me holding the AC Delco oil filter. You can read the label on the filter! The bottom right photo shows everything in the trunk that goes with the car to the new buyer. I welcome any comparison to any other GNX that is priced under $45,000 to this one we now own. This is an excellent example that comes with all the documents to back up the history of this GNX. The last time it was for sale was in 1989. For more photos, email me direct - [email protected]

REPORT FROM SPRING CARLISLE -

The weather at Spring Carlisle was more like a winter day than a spring day. I was there Thursday by 9:30 in the morning. The place was packed with spectators. The winds were blowing at 25 mph or better and the temperature struggled to get to 45 degrees.

I only spotted one Grand National for sale. It was a 1985 with 72,000 miles. The price was $15,000. Car was missing center caps, the wheels where rusty, the power antenna was broken and it needed front fillers very badly. This was with a quick observation!

According to Bill Strobel, a friend of ours, he was at Carlisle Saturday and did see a total of 3 Grand Nationals all in the $14,000 to $15,000 price range.

I spotted at most 3 different Turbo Regal items for sale. One item was a set of the 1984 style T wheels. The original price was $300 for the set and they were marked down to $250. I imagine by Saturday if they were still there, $150 would have bought them. Not being 15 inch, those early wheels never garner much interest.

VWs have really picked up in value, as I saw more of them than usual. It took about $7,000 to buy a decent VW bug from the late 1960s. A restored 1958 camper was priced $35,000. Out of all the cars I have owned, I can only recall one time where I took a VW bug in partial trade back in the 1980s on a GTO. I remember even back then I had to have part of the floor welded to support the battery! Plus they lack a decent heater!

PHOTO 2 - The top left photo shows this scaled down 1955 Ford as it was driven around in the fairgrounds. The top right photo shows the 1958 VW bus that could be bought for a cool $35,000. Not being a VW expert, this color does not appear to be a color they offered in 1958.

I talked to the owner of the 2 cars in the next photo. He acquired them at one of the storage auctions. Both belong to two little old ladies. Both the Regal and Century wagon had less than 8,000 original miles on them. Both cars featured huge bumper guards on the front and rear. Maybe the woman parked by hitting things? He was asking $15,000 for the regular Regal! He asked me if that was a fair price! I told him anything north of $5 grand would be a miracle! The Century wagon had a green exterior and a tan interior making it not very desirable!

The bottom left photo shows both the regular Regal and Century wagon. Note the huge bumper guards on the front bumper! The bottom right photo shows a very rare 1988 LeSabre T-Type. The car was reasonably priced at $3,750. It had the optional black leather seats. It was not mint but a decent driver. Burgundy was probably the most common of the four colors offered for this model. Buick made these three years - 1987, 1988, and 1989. It was produced in 4 colors only. We had one years ago. It was a very comfortable road car equipped with a 3800 engine. These cars got the full version analog gauge cluster that the Turbo Regals should have gotten.

I did see several exceptional cars that were of interest to any G-Body car lover. One car was a 1985 El Camino two-tone blue with just 29,000 original miles. The price was just $12,500. It had a gorgeous set of unusual mag wheels on it. The only downside - the engine was the 4.3 engine. But at $12,500, it would be a perfect candidate for a crate motor and a 8.5 rear end. For less than $20,000 investment you would have a very quick and mint El Camino. Most of them are repaired or an ugly color.

The other car was very unusual. It was a 1985 Regal from Canada. It was a non-air car with the 3.8 engine, two-tone brown with bucket seats and a console. It had less than 13,000 original miles on it and it was very fairly priced at $12,900. This would have made a beautiful turbo conversion. The seller was a French Canadian who did not speak very good English, so it was hard to understand him. I only had one year of French in High School and if you failed it you did not have to take it anymore.

PHOTO 3 - The top left photo shows this outstanding 1985 El Camino. This was a real bargain at $12,500 with just 29,000 original miles. The top right photo is almost comical. I could have shut my eyes and still got both the pillar emblem and Regal emblem closer to where it should be than this person did! Sometimes it doesn’t pay to rush! The lower photos show the gorgeous two-tone brown 1985 regular Regal from Canada. Note the matching gold-style alloy wheels. The bottom left photo shows the passenger’s side. Note it has wheel covers on this side! In the trunk were two more matching wheel covers, but I did not see two more alloy wheels. I wish I looked closer as I can’t recall if the tires were even the same size on both sides of the car! I thought this was very weird.

More photos from Spring Carlisle next week!

MINI-MULTI FUNCTION JUMPER MODULE -

I just got in several samples of the new mini multi-function jumper module, model #U3. It is the identical size of a typical smart phone. It weighs less than 8 ounces! It even has a tinted clear plastic face on it. It has 4 blue lights to indicate available power. It has a 3-function LED flashlight. A 4-in-1 harness to charge various electronic devices, and a set of jumper cables for jumping any 12-volt vehicle comes with it. It also comes with both a wall charger and a car charger. This unit is rated at 200 cranking amps and 400 peak amps. It is capable of starting about 8-10 vehicles on a single charge, 4 or 6 cylinder engine as well as any 12-volt motorcycle, snowmobile, or tractor, etc.

This mini unit is the perfect size for a woman to carry in their purse or for a motorcyclist to carry. It’s the perfect electronic device companion to charge most electronic devices without being tied to a wall charger or a car charger. It is also perfect to jumpstart most 4-cylinder or 6-cylinder vehicles.

We have a new order of these due in the next 10-15 days. We have a special introductory price on this new mini multi-function Jumper module of just $69.95 and free UPS ground shipping! This price is only good until Friday, May 20, 2015. The suggested retail price will be higher. We would not charge your credit card until we ship it.

PHOTO 4 - Shows the complete kit of the new mini multi-function jumper module. It has the same features as the larger unit, just not as powerful. You must contact our office to get this special introductory price - 215-766-1611x0.

CUSTOM-MADE BATTERY JUMPER WIRE HARNESS -

Now that we have a mini multi function jumper harness it becomes more practical for a motorcyclist to have if they also buy this harness for their bike. We now have a custom-made battery jumper wire harness that will fit on virtually every motorcycle, ATV, or snowmobile. We made it the correct length so it can be hardwired to the 12-volt battery and be able to get to the male connector if you need to jump start your bike. On some late-model motorcycles you can be almost one-hour removing parts just to get to the battery. You also need to have the proper tools with you, if your battery was to fail. All the various hand-held battery jumper modules have the same one-way blue male and female connectors. This custom-made wire harness takes the worry out of ever being stranded on a motorcycle with a dead battery.

It’s one of those products that you will be glad you have, yet hope you never have to use it! It has a one-way circuit breaker in the positive wire so the power can only go to your battery. No power can come from your battery when it is not in use. This clever product now makes those hand-held battery jumper modules useful for motorcycle owners.

If you own a motorcycle shop or ATV shop, we are looking for dealers.

Our part number is #7643. These are in stock. The retail price is just under $25 each. Email me - [email protected] for more details.

REAL SET OF GNX WHEELS - FOR SALE -

I recently acquired a complete set of the real GNX wheels. They have about 10,000 miles on them. The owner had them replaced because they used the wrong cleaning product on them and it made the clear coat cloudy.

Currently I have the complete set being refurbished and buffed. I should have them back next week. I also had each one checked for being true (round). I don't believe I’ve ever had a set of the real GNX wheels for sale. No reproduction wheels looks 100% identical to the real GNX wheels.

Not cheap - The price is $3,895 for the set of 4 plus $100 shipping to any of the basic 48 states. PA residents add 6% sales tax. I will consider partial trades of any Turbo Regal parts. Email me direct - [email protected]

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US -

“POWERMASTER BRAKE SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR GUIDE - For 1985 thru 1987 Buick Turbo Regal, Grand National, GNX, T-Type, and Turbo-T” Book by Richard Clark and John Norton

“POWERMASTER BRAKE SYSTEM TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR GUIDE - For 1985 thru 1987 Buick Turbo Regal, Grand National, GNX, T-Type, and Turbo-T” Book by Richard Clark and John Norton is an excellent reference Guide to have in your reference library.

It would also be a great gift for your mechanic.

This very detailed manual took over three years to do. Even if you lack mechanical skills, this Guide is worth having to share with your mechanic. It is full of highly-detailed photos and charts, showing all of the possible problems and solutions for diagnosing a powermaster brake unit. Everything can be done using basic hand tools. The Guide runs 90 pages in length.

Here are some of the chapters: Major Component Descriptions and Nomenclature, Powermaster Characteristics During Normal Operation, Common Problems and Which Tests to Run to Address Each One, Flowcharts to Help Diagnose Problems Correctly, The Major Components and How to Test Each One, Maintenance, Tools and Accessories, and Vendor List and Contact Information.

It is spiral bound for easy reading when you are working on the powermaster. As long as the electric motor is not burned out, everything else is available for you to repair a powermaster on your own with this handy Guide.

They also have made all the various O-rings that you need to rebuild a powermaster brake unit. In some cases, they had to have parts reproduced. For example, GM sold just one of the O-rings in the kit for over $30 each. This Powermaster Reproduction O-rings (14) kit is only $39.95, part #7676.

I don't think anyone has more experience with powermaster brake units than Richard Clark. Over the years, he has even made special testing equipment for not only the powermaster brake units but also for other electronic parts found in the Turbo Regals.

He worked with John Norton to compile this easy-to-follow and informative powermaster repair Guide, so you can become better educated on powermasters and not be stressed out the first time the brake light comes on!

Our photos show the cover and a two-page spread in the book.

1985-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
POWERMASTER REPRODUCTION O-RINGS (14) KITS

Richard Clark has painstakingly put together this kit of reproduction O-rings specifically for the Turbo Regal power master.

Each kit consists of 14 O-rings, some of which Richard has reproduced to make this a complete kit for the entire powermaster brake unit. It includes not only the O-rings for the brake switch and accumulator bowl, but also the very important power piston sleeve, check valve body master cylinder, etc.

Each package includes a real-size drawing to ensure that the correct O-rings can be easily identified for the proper application. The O-rings should match the drawings exactly.

Since GM has discontinued many of the Buick O-rings, Richard has had to have some of the O-rings reproduced. In one particular case, the O-ring listed for over $30 from GM, making this kit a bargain.

A must have item for any 1986-1987 Turbo Regal owner. You should have this kit on hand in case you have issues with the powermaster.

NOTE - We recommend these O-rings be installed by a qualified mechanic.

Great powermaster restoration items.

1984-1988 GM G-Body - All Models (Including Buick Turbo Regal)
HEATER/AC CONTROL CLUSTER LIGHT AND SHIFTER INDICATOR LIGHT AFTERMARKET LED LIGHT BULBS (2) SET

These aftermarket LED bulbs will replace the heater and shifter light bulbs.

Your car has to have the floor mounted console. This upgrade will now give you a crisp white light for the heater control and the shifter indicator. Unfortunately on the heater/AC control GM only had a single light socket towards the one side.

Both LEDs are easy to install.

LEDS draw less amperage and they do not get hot. LED lights greatly increase the amount of light over the stock glass bulbs, draws far less amperage, and does not generate the extreme heat like the original glass bulbs.

Our first photo shows the LED bulbs.

Our second photo shows the Heater/AC control dash cluster.

Our third photo shows the Shifter Indicator.

NOTE - The round LED bulb may look slightly different than the bulb shown in the photos, depending on our supplier.

This would give you a complete kit of LED interior lights.

Excellent replacement items for any interior restoration.

1984-1987 Buick Regal - All Models (including Buick Turbo Regal) -
REPRODUCTION DASH CONNECTOR SEALING GASKET

Over time, water can enter the interior due to a deteriorating dash connector sealing gasket. This can potentially create rust and water damage to the driver’s side floor and surrounding materials.

This new reproduction dash connector sealing gasket fixes the problem. It restores a weather-tight seal to the harness feed-thru location.

This is a critical gasket, since it’s for the dash bulkhead.

GM has discontinued the actual connectors.

If you are restoring the interior, this is the time to check to see if you need this part.

The gasket comes with very detailed directions.

Our first picture shows the actual gasket and the second photo shows the general area (indicated by a red oval) where this gasket is used.

Another great interior restoration item.

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged.
