Greetings Turbo Regal Inner Circle Members 09-26-2018 –

1986-1987 TURBO REGAL CORRECT LOOKING ALTERNATORS –

For several years we’ve been selling brand new correct looking alternators. Both the stock 120 amp and a custom built 200 amp alternator. The part number #7315 is for the 120 amp alternator. The part number #7316 is for the 200 amp alternator. The Turbo Regals are one of the few G-body cars that used a 120 amp alternator. We also offer getting your original date coded alternator rebuilt so you can keep your car original. That part number is #7319.

Like the radiator cap that is unique and very visible in the engine compartment, your alternator is also very visible. While many aftermarket options exist for replacing the alternator I think we are the only supplier for the correct looking one. All our alternators are custom built by one individual who has been in the alternator rebuilding business for over 25 years. They are not mass produced. Each one is also tested. Our warranty is iron clad. We stand behind it for as long as you own it and I am in business.

AC Delco has a replacement available that is offered by other companies, but does not look correct. At the recent East Coast Buick Regionals I spotted a Turbo Regal that had a brand new AC Delco alternator installed. It still had the AC Delco decal on it. The AC Delco replacement does run about $60 cheaper than our correct looking one.

With the values of the 1986-1987 Turbo Regals increasing every year, the more original you can maintain your pride and joy, the more it will be worth.

PHOTO 1 – The photo to the left we show the replacement AC Delco alternator on a 1986-1997 Turbo Regal. Visually, there are at least 2 differences between the AC Delco replacement and the original alternator. The fan blade was black not a silver-like-cad-color and the ribbed area of the main housing was a gold-cad-color when it should have been black. Photo to the right shows our Brand New 120 amp Alternator, Pre-tested with Manufacturer’s Limited Lifetime Warranty, part #7315.

Here is a link to this 120 amp alternator on our website.

1986 TURBO REGAL GLOVE BOX BOOKLETS –

One of the toughest items to find for any year Turbo Regal is the booklets that would have come in the glove box when the car was new. I recently found 4 of the 5 booklets that would have been in the glove box of a 1986 Turbo Regal.

We recently also came across a complete 1984-1987 Turbo Regal analog dash cluster. Unlike many used dash clusters the trip odometer is not frozen. The harness is not cut either.

PHOTO 2 – The photo to the left shows the 4 booklets that would have come in the 1986 Turbo Regal glove box. Two of them have writing on the front as shown. See Rare Parts for pricing. Also pictured is a pair of good used sun visor brackets. See Rare Parts for pricing of this pair, which includes the plastic sleeves that keep the visors from drooping.

We also show this used 1984-1987 analog dash cluster. First, we show the original plastic lens and then with our new replacement lens. You can clearly see a vast difference between the original lens and the new clear replacement lens. The part number for the reproduction clear lens for the analog dash is #7503. See the Rare Parts section for pricing of this used analog dash cluster..

SUN VISORS –

One of the issues with sun visors is the plastic sleeve that is on the metal pin on your visor bracket. This plastic sleeve can split causing the visor to droop. I have a pair of burgundy visors and a pair of blue visors that are used for sale under the Rare Parts section. These visors are 6 inches wide. The ones in the Turbo Regals are approximately 7 inches wide.

Although not 100% correct, they do offer you a cheaper alternative. Plus, both sets have good brackets and the locking screw for the visor. Both also have the optional lighted visor mirror.

PHOTO 3 – We show both the burgundy pair and the blue pair of visors with the optional lighted mirror option. Note that the lighted visor door is different on the blue one than it is on the burgundy one. The burgundy one is factory correct for the 1987 Turbo Regal as far as the lighted mirror. Both have the wire cut after the plug. See Rare Parts section for pricing. GM used various different visors in later model cars. Some of them are very close to the ones in the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals.

AM/FM RADIOS –

Be sure to see the Rare Parts section for pricing. I recently picked up two vintage am/fm radios. I tested both and neither functions. The one is pretty rare as I removed it from an Oldsmobile Toronado.

I also have a rare am/fm AC Delco CD player. The radio repair shop I use can’t locate the parts needed to make it function. See Rare Parts section for price. All three of these non working radios are priced very reasonable. All 3 of these will bolt into your 1984-1987 Turbo Regal dash.

PHOTO 4 – The photo on the left shows the very rare am/fm CD player with the EQ option. The photo on the right shows the two am/fm radios. The one has the optional EQ option. All these units will bolt into any 1984-1987 Turbo Regal dash as long as you have the factory or the new reproduction radio brackets. They do require the jumper harness in order to plug it into your factory radio harness.

I HAVE BEEN TO COLLEGE –

Back in the mid 1990s I had a customer from the New England area call me about buying his mint original Grand National. I think it was a 1986 model. The trip to New England along the coast in heavy traffic is never a fun trip hauling a car trailer. It turns out he worked at a college. I am not sure as to what capacity, but one of his perks was he had an indoor parking spot. The first thing I noticed was the tailpipes on his pride and joy. At first I thought he had installed chrome pipes of some sort. Turns out he had been polishing the factory tips since they were new. I swear they looked almost as good as chrome!

So, when the question of college comes up and always say yes I’ve been to college.

MODEL TRAINS AND GRAND NATIONALS –

As you can imagine having bought over 325 of these cars I have been in many different situations and locations. This was a strange one. Again, it was during the 1990s and again the New England area. This was another mint 1986 or 1987 Grand National. The seller could not meet me during the day were his car was stored. He said it was easy to find as it was in a small building that had a security guard.

I didn’t think much of it at the time until I got to this small one story building. Inside sat this Grand National. Along the walls was nothing but model trains. The security guard was not too helpful and told me under no conditions would I be able to start the car and I would have to push the car myself out of the building and get it up on my trailer.

So yes, there is a connection with model trains and Grand Nationals. Good thing I was younger then and was able to push the car out by myself out of the building.

This reminds me of years ago when we had a towing business. I towed for the largest Toyota dealership in the area. He had started selling Toyotas around 1970. Every once in a while, I would get a tow job where the car was in a high rise parking garage in center Philadelphia. Usually the dead car would be near the top of the parking garage.

My tow truck winch was too tall to clear the garage ceilings, which meant I would have to go in the garage on foot and hand push the car down each level. Going down the ramp was ok but the car still ended up having to be hand pushed at least half the distance on each floor. Again, I was far younger then and Toyotas were little cars!

ONE MORE STORY FROM MY PAST RELATED TO GRAND NATIONALS –

Again, it was 1990’s something I had maybe 4 or 5 Turbo Regals for sale at our house at the same time. Back then many of these cars I would buy had some sort of aftermarket alarm system. In most cases I would rip them out to avoid issues with them. This one Grand National in particular had a clever alarm system one that in my haste I forgot to tell the buyer about.

The buyer I believe lived in an apartment complex. About a week after he purchased the car from me he calls me up quite upset and says the car died on him a few days ago and his mechanic has been pulling his hair out trying to figure out why the car will not start.

At first I was baffled then I remembered that in the center console was the alarm. Something had to stay in a certain spot in the console glove box otherwise the car would not start. I asked him to explain to me exactly what happened. Turns out in his apartment complex are speed bumps and he hit one of the speed bumps and it dislodged the alarm kill system.

Once I explained this to him, he got the car started. After that incident, I would have every aftermarket alarm system removed!

REMEMBER THE VIDEO PROFILE THAT WAS DONE LAST YEAR? –

Steve, the producer of that video, is now producing an automotive radio show in the Philadelphia market and is currently looking for sponsorship. Sponsors will receive commercial air time during the program as well as web and video presence. Because it’s the inaugural season of the show, rates are low compared to standard radio rates.

Business owners, particularly those in the Philadelphia region who are looking for a new way to advertise, should contact Steve at [email protected] and check out the website at www.carsmartradio.com

Few years back I bought Steve’s Grand National.

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY CAN BE COSTLY WHEN IN AN ACCIDENT –

All these latest options that car makers are adding can really add costs to any fender bender. Many cars today have more sensors and modules need that need to be replaced and reset. Some of the new headlights alone can costly a grand or more! Not only are parts costing more but time to install and reset them has added more costs to a typical collision shop. One can only imagine how a typical sedan from 20 years ago compared to a similar sedan today how many more miles of wire are in the newer car compared to one from 20 years ago.

Almost every car we check out at the various bid lots has the tire sensor light on or the airbag light or the ABS light on. With Turbo Regals, it’s the brake light that raises the most concern when it comes on and has the biggest replacement expense!

300-MILE 1987 GRAND NATIONAL HARDTOP –

You can now view a total of 16 photos of this 266-mile 1987 Grand National. I also have a list of all the work that was done to freshen up this prime example back to its original glory. A rare chance to own one of the lowest mileage 1987 Grand Nationals in the country.

This car has enjoyed inside storage in a warehouse in Texas since it was purchased and tucked away. Until last November 2017 it only had 50 miles on it! I am waiting for more info. Even the window sticker is still attached to the window!

Car has now been fully detailed.

Own one of the best 1987 Grand Nationals with less than 300 actual miles since new. Asking price is $62,900.

WINDOW RACER™

The Window Racer™ - Because everything should go fast…

Make your 30+year-old power windows fly up and down like they never have before. Even better than they ever were new! Your windows will be just as fast as a new vehicle.

Simple installation, just plug and play.

If you have a power moon roof, it’s on the same circuit so this unit will make that operate faster too.

NOTE - It will also work on other vehicles if it has a 30 amp circuit breaker.

An excellent upgrade for your car.

We also offer a Window Rattle Elimination Kit, #7170. This replaces a lot of the worn out components in the door.

NOTE - You may also be interested in these related parts - #7170 Window Rattle Elimination Kit, #6949 Brand New Power Window Motor Kit, #7068 Reproduction Driver’s Side Dual Power Window Switch, #7069 - Reproduction Passenger’s Side Single Power Window Switch, and #7217 Reproduction Outside Door Sill Weatherstrips (2).

Here are some of the most common questions asked of the manufacturer:

Q - How hard is it to do and long does it take to install the Window Racer?

A - It will take you longer to get some tools together to access the fuse box. Usually a flat-head screw driver, 7mm sockets, etc. You are accessing the cover of the fuse box.

You simply find the 30 amp circuit breaker in the fuse box marked for the power windows. You remove the current 30 amp circuit breaker and install into Window Racer plug end the same way you removed the circuit breaker. The plug looks just like the circuit breaker you are removing.

You then plug the Window Racer where the circuit breaker is located.

Then you take a screw #10 or smaller and ground the black wire to a suitable ground. The key turned forward the red light will come on to let you know the unit is working. If the light does not come on, verify a good ground and that your key is turned to the accessory position.

Q - How do I know if it is working? I plugged it in but my dead window still isn’t working. Why?

A - Window Racer does not fix bad wiring, a bad motor, or switch. When the you hit the window switch, the green light comes on. You know that the circuit is completed and working. Motor is good and the circuit breaker is fine. The window is now going faster than I ever thought it could.

Q - How many Window Racers do I need for my vehicle?

A - Just one. It works all the windows and the factory power moon roof, if your car has a moon roof.

Q - My power moon roof?

A - Yes, it will make your factory moon roof fly back and forth, just like your windows.

Q - Can I operate all the windows and the moon roof at the same time?

A - Yes, the speed is quicker even if you operate both at the same time. However, it is not faster if you operate only one window.

Q - Can the Window Racer burn up my wiring? Will it cause damage to my switches? What about the motor, it has to be hurting the motor right?

A - No. Actually it takes less amps to operate the motors then it did from the factory. The Amp Load is what generally causes the switches and motors to die. You know this if you have or had a weak motor. Your switch went bad and you replaced this because it was easier than replacing the motor.

Q - Well this leads me to another question. Will it make a bad motor run like new?

A - During testing we have seen motors that allow the window to go down but not go back up. When Window Racer was installed, it actually allowed the window to go back up. Of course, not as fast as a good motor.

Q - Ok, this leads me to another question. What if I am out and for some reason the Window Racer would go bad? Am I stuck with my windows up or down?

A - No, the Window Racer has an internal protection because we know there will be that one person with two bad motors who doesn't want to change them and it will eventually kill the internal protection. If for some reason the unit fails, the circuit breaker allows the vehicle to go back to the slow factory operation like normal.

Q - How long is the Warranty?

A - There is a 1-year Manufacturer Warranty.

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged.
