ANOTHER NEW PRODUCT FROM US -

In the early 1990s we used to sell tinted covers for the tail lights, headlights, and parking lights. Back then they were quite popular. The tail light and head light tinted covers we would buy from a supplier. The tinted parking light covers we had them made locally. The tail light and headlight covers due to the format of the Regal body were ill fitting at best. The parking light covers fit pretty good on top of the parking light bezels.

These new ones we had made we designed to fit between the actual lights and the outer metal bezel. Once installed it provides a very clean look and does not appear like an add on to the car since it is behind the metal outer bezel.

The popular theme in recent years is all black. Even new cars come with black alloy wheels instead of chrome or aluminum. Personally I don’t like seeing black wheels. The only advantage I see is it hides any visible build up of brake dust.

These new tinted parking light covers are now in stock. They may not yet be on our website. You would have to call Christina to order. The part number is #7917 and the price is $36.95 for the pair plus shipping.

PHOTO 1 - The top left photo shows the actual tinted covers. The other three photos show the covers installed with the lights on and off.

REPRODUCTION GNX DASH NUMBERS -

Years ago we had a local company make some reproduction GNX dash emblems. These were similar to the factory original except they were imprinted on metal instead of engraved and hand painted. The originals you could feel the letters and numbers. They were actually hand painted at night by an ASC employee who had a pretty steady hand and good eyesight! I say that because the dash plates are so small. I bought the original leftovers from him many years ago and sold them.

These reproductions the registration of the red in the letters GN is slightly off. The size of the actual overall plate is correct. They have a 3M tape on the back so it will stick on the dash plate. We have these under Rare Parts for sale in this issue. I have a total of 23 reproduction GNX number plates. In some cases I have 2 or 3 of the same number. I have most numbers 460 though 466. I also have numbers 470 thru 475 missing only 472. I have 23 in total. See the Rare Parts section for prices.

PHOTO 2 - The photo on the left shows an uncut plate showing 7 sequential numbers prior to them being cut apart. The photo on the right shows some of the individual reproduction GNX number plates I have. The uncut plate is also for sale under the Rare Parts section.

QUAKERTOWN FLEA MARKET -

About 10 miles from where we live is a fairly huge weekend flea market. I have been going every weekend, mostly to buy various $1 DVDs for my brother. You may remember I recently ran into a high school classmate of mine who was there selling DVDs. It’s a small world. The other week I spotted this nice older lady with her daughter selling an array of items. What caught my eye was this tattered book entitled, “U.S. Army Training Center Fort Gordon, Georgia.” It’s a place I remember well since I spent my Army basic training there in the fall of 1965.

I explained to the little lady about the connection I had with Fort Gordon. She told me her son was also there. I asked how old your son is and she said he turned 72 last week. I said I just turned 73 two weeks ago. We may have been there around the same time!

She sold me the Fort Gordon book for $4. I had my camera with me, so I took a photo of her holding the book. I told her I would return next week and give her a copy of the picture I took of her holding the book.

She is 95 years young. She told me her husband served in World War II and got the Bronze Star. Both her and her husband are of Russian descent.

Interestingly enough, this same week I read an article where the U.S. Army has replaced the chaotic reception recruits entering basic training have long received from shouting drill sergeants. Day one has always been a rite of passage that involved menacing groups of drill sergeants descending on terrified recruits, yelling commands and ordering trainees to perform push ups and other exercises with packed duffle bags strapped to their backs. It is something you will never forget!

That daily early wake up call before 6 am and having to pick up cigarette butts before morning chow was never a fun time! Nor was it a favorite time for me as a non-smoker! It’s funny though, after my 12-month-stint in Vietnam, I got stationed for the rest of my 3-year-commitment at the Philadelphia Induction center. I first administered tests all day long to incoming draftees, etc. and then I got to give the end-of-the-day speech as draftees boarded trains to go places like Fort Bragg and Fort Gordon. Oh yes, I did warn these raw recruits they would be picking up cigarette butts every morning prior to morning chow!

Working at the Philadelphia Induction Center was probably the best duty possible. I got to go home to our apartment every night. It was like a normal 9-to-5 job. The only difference is that I had to wear the same dress uniform every day! At the time, my wife Eileen secured a job at Hurst driving a 1964 GTO every day to work.

PHOTO 3 - Here is a picture of 95-year-old Toni Lebeduik holding the book from Fort Gordon, Georgia. She and her daughter have no email or computer, so I told her I would bring her a copy of what I wrote next week.

1986-1987 TURBO REGAL DRIVERS SIDE RELAY COVER -

Over 15 years ago we made this clever little relay cover that Buick never made. We just had another run of them made as sales of this little relay cover has recently picked up. It serves a very important purpose. It is designed for every 1986-1987 Turbo Regal. If you look at your passenger inner fender Buick has a nice bracket/shield design to protect the relays/sensors on the passenger side. On the drivers side you have 3 relays and no bracket or shield to protect them from the weather.

This would not be a big problem if the large relay in that group of 3 was a sealed relay. Unfortunately, it is not. It’s usually referred to as the fan delay relay. It triggers the electric fan to cool the radiator down after the car is shut off. This is not normally an issue, but since the relay is not a sealed relay water and moisture can enter the housing. We all know what issues that can cause.

I know as I have trailered a number of cars back in the day that I bought and heard the electric fan kick on for no reason. If it happens when you are not around the result can be a weakened or a dead battery. While it may be true your pride and joy has never seen the rain, you wash your car water can still run down into this fan delay relay causing problems. We only have one source for this relay and this relay might be unique to these cars. It is also not a cheap relay. We sell them for $119.95 each! Our relay cover is only $19.95. We designed it so it matches the passenger side relay cover. Its powder coated so it doesn't turn to rust! Most turbo owners would not even recognize that it is not a factory original part.

PHOTO 4 - The top left photo shows the factory passenger side relay cover. The top right photo we show the drivers side exposed relays. The bottom left photo shows the cover we make over the driver’s side relays. The bottom right photo we show the actual cover. (Two small black screws are included). The part number is #6684. The price is $19.95. By duplicating the appearance to the passenger factory relay cover it looks factory!

ANOTHER STORY FROM MY MEMORY -

This one involves one of the last GNX’s we bought back in 2005. I remember the year as it was around this time in the Fall of 2005 we were almost moved into our new home in Kintnersville, PA. Matter of fact, this GNX was the very last car to leave the Sugarbottom Road address in December 2005. Looking back it's hard to imagine over 325 different Turbo Regals came down Sugarbottom Road from the late 1980s until 2005.

I found the ad for the GNX originally in one of the Philadelphia newspapers. This was not a common sight for sure. Even more unusual when I called I expected to hear the car had already been sold. I called and the owner said no he still had the GNX available. He said several people had come and said it was not original, or a real GNX and made him a stupid offer.

Since the car was not very far from my location I figured I would go look at it. In talking with the owner he seemed pretty vague on his knowledge of a GNX. This struck me strange as most GNX owners would be well versed on the car. I almost did not go to look at it since the seller was so vague about the car and its history.

I did go look at the GNX. Immediately I saw the major visual issue. The car had regular GNX style 16 by 8 wheels that lacked the proper offset for a GNX. I can’t member now if they were TA wheels or my old style Kirban GNX wheels. That combination the tires looked lost under the fender flares. So at some point I figured the wheels probably got stolen. This caused some major concern. With the wheels gone I knew I better check the turbo, the dash, SPID label, and for the first time ever check the engine and transmission number to see if it matches the car VIN tag. The body was not bad. Overall condition was pretty nice.

The turbo checked out as being the GNX turbo something you can verify by feeling the front of the turbo under the shield. You do this when the engine is cold! The tough part with no jack and a stone driveway was to verify the engine block number and transmission number to the VIN. Again all checked out as did the SPID label. Of all the GNX’s I bought this is the only one where I verified the engine and transmission to the VIN. The 9 piece trunk kit was also all intact. I am thinking whoever stole the wheels overlooked stealing the major unique GNX components. The mileage I believe was 18,000.

I bought the GNX. The previous tire kickers I guess did not do their homework and passed on what was a real GNX. I trailered the car home. Here is something I would never ever do today because of the high values of the GNX. I put the car in our empty five bay garage on Sugarbottom Road. We had already moved out. We were no longer living there. In 6 weeks or so that it was parked in the garage at our old house I never even checked on the car until I sold it just prior to the end of 2005. This was by far the strangest GNX I bought.

When the transport truck was sent to meet me at our old house it had snowed the night before. I had to shovel a path so I could get the GNX out to the street. According to my chart it appears this is the GNX I sold for $39,000 grand.

CHICAGOLAND CHAPTER GSCA LICENSE PLATES -

We still have a good assortment of these rare Illinois license plates available. According to long time friend Paul Vilser who did the drawings, layout and production artwork, they were able to do this for 12 years from 1996 to 2007. Legally they were good for about two months but some owners kept them on for a full year. They can still be found on some Illinois cars at the National GS Nationals many years later. It was a clever idea for Illinois to offer this to I assume any Club that wanted to do it. Some of Paul's art work for these Illinois license plates were used on T shirts and also sold at the GS Nationals.

1987 GRAND NATIONAL T-TOPS WITH 7,700 ACTUAL MILES FOR SALE -

The potential buyer we had for this car has not contacted us or the seller in over 30 days so this car is still available for sale. Seems strange since he did put a deposit on the Grand National.

URGENT REQUEST -

We need good used 1986-1987 Turbo Regal steering wheel cores! To see if your core is acceptable email me [email protected] a photo prior to sending it for $100 credit. Help us help others restore their cars. We have an urgent need for good steering wheel cores.

WORKING ON A FEW IDEAS UPDATE -

We are looking at another new project that Buick never really provided with their cars.

TIPS AND IDEAS YOU HAVE TRIED -

If there are any tips or ideas you want to share with our readers, email me – [email protected]

TIP FROM KIRBAN –

It’s best to always think twice before making a major modification to a fairly stock looking Turbo Regal. Major changes can deeply affect the value.

2020 - BUICK RELATED CAR SHOW EVENTS –

NOTE - With the ongoing crisis, watch for updates as some events may be cancelled or pushed back to a later date.

If you know of a Turbo Regal related car show, email us the promotional flyer and we will list it FREE! - [email protected]

CASTLE PERFORMANCE OPEN HOUSE -
October 1st - 4th, 2020
9000 Ogden Avenue, Brookfield, IL 60513
Register now. Call 708-854-6060 Food provided Thursday through Saturday. Including a pig roast on Saturday. Vendors set up every day selling parts. Car Show is Saturday and Sunday its race day at the local track! Four days of activities! We have provided Paul with 2 of our popular M&M contests.

Click on this link below for more information

http://manmarketing.com/email/images/castle/66094-CSAR/index.html

I sent Paul the other week 2 different M&M contests with a prize for the winner. In case of tie I think he said that the second person would get to make the next 12 monthly mortgage payments on his building.

With Castle Performance having a 4 day event I told him having done many Reunion and Open House events it's critical to keep participants engaged over the 4 day period. Here are some of the ideas I sent him.

Be interesting to see if Paul Castle does any of the unique contests I suggested in last week’s Inner Circle. Some of them are quite easy to do such as seeing which Turbo Regal leaves the smallest oil stain or largest. I suspect they will get a huge turnout since so many other car show events have been cancelled.

NEW PRODUCTS FROM US –

1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
SCANMASTER STEERING COLUMN BRACKET

Here is a simple way to mount the Scanmaster, part #6783, so it is in your direct sight.

The bracket attaches by velcro, which comes with it.

We used to sell a similar steering column bracket years ago until our source stopped making them.

We now have a new supplier who makes it in a high-quality acrylic plastic. It is then painted in the Turbo Regal grey, so it will match most Turbo Regal steering columns.

An excellent way to mount a Scanmaster.

7915 - 1984-1987 Buick Turbo Regal - Scanmaster Steering Column Bracket - $34.95

CLICK HERE - For the link to the bracket on our website.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
REPRODUCTION VACUUM BRAKE PEDAL

We now offer this reproduction vacuum brake pedal. The difference between the vacuum brake pedal and a Turbo Regal pedal is the location of the pin that the rod goes to that comes through the firewall. The vacuum brake pedal makes the installation easier. Without the vacuum brake pedal, you would need to weld a new pin in a different location on the original Turbo Regal brake pedal.

Finding a good used vacuum brake pedal has become more difficult as time passes. Because many Turbo Regal owners are converting to vacuum brakes, the demand has been heavy.

This reproduction pedal has solved that issue of using a 30-plus-year-old rusted vacuum brake pedal.

NOTE - You need to re-use the original bolt and bushings to secure the pedal to the bracket under the dash. The pedal is bare metal and will require painting.

7916 - 1986-1987 Buick Regal - Reproduction Vacuum Brake Pedal - $99.95

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
STAINLESS STEEL TRANSMISSION COOLING LINE KIT - 4 Pieces

Over time, the original lines can rust or leak.

These lines are stainless steel and made by the same company where we buy our brake and fuel line kits. The quality is excellent.

If you ever had the transmission rebuilt, you know what it’s like to rebend old transmission lines to make them fit.

Kit consists of the 4 lines as pictured.

These are manufactured in the USA using the best materials.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
DUAL FAN INSTALLATION BRACKET

The same source that makes our translator bracket has made this one-piece aluminum 1/8" gauge aluminum bracket for us.

It is compatible with #7607 Dual Fan Conversion Kit and Custom-made Plug-and-Play Harness and #7608 Dual Fan Only we sell.

This bracket requires no holes to be drilled in the core support or the dual fan kit.

The end result is the dual fan setup will sit flush against the radiator. The bracket secures the dual fan at the bottom of the core support. It is barely visible.

Each bracket comes with detailed directions. You do have to trim all 4 mounting tabs on the dual fan unit.

NOTE - You may also be interested in these related parts - #7607 Dual Fan Conversion Kit and Custom-made Plug-and-Play Harness, #7608 Dual Fan Only, and #7609 Custom-made Plug-and-Play Harness Only (for Intrepid Dual Fan).

NOTE - ABOUT LINKS IN THE INNER CIRCLE -

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.

When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.

Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer. If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.

You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be used if you are using the current version.

NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -

We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these must be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.

If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]

ABOUT OUR EMAILS -

Any inquiries concerning used parts, you must email me directly - [email protected] - and I will answer you. However, if I fail to answer you within 24 hours, please email us again. Since expanding into used parts, I get a lot of emails and sometimes I may forget your request or may not remember who requested the item.

IN CLOSING - Remember the factory single piece trunk kit, the 3 piece baffles, and spare tire filler come from one supplier and orders are now taking 4 to 6 weeks. We just filled our back orders and have several of each in stock. Best to order now if you need any of these 3 items.
