The local MAGNA CHAPTER is having their annual end-of-the-year Banquet this coming Saturday, December 19th at 4 pm. It is being held at Georgines, 1320 Newportville Road, Bristol, PA 19007.
I will be going and Pete Hoffman will also be there. I will be doing an M&Ms contest for this banquet. It’s not too late to plan to attend, if you reside in the area. Casual dress. Here is more information from my archives.
The 1984 Buick Press Kit had several major announcements. First, it talks about Special Editions. To compliment Buick’s participation as the official Car and Sponsor of the Games of the XXIII Olympiad in Los Angeles, Buick offers the Century Olympia Limited Sedan.
This sedan is available in white with subtly classic U.S. Olympic identification on the front fender, deck lid, and hood ornament. Accented with a gold body stripe and gold aluminum wheels, the Olympia also sports a deck lid luggage rack and the tan cloth interior trim headrests is embroidered with the Official U.S. Olympic logo in dark brown.
Also, with the Regals success on the Grand National circuit, a special edition Grand National version of the T-Type will be offered. (Remember the Grand National originally was an option). This was the introduction of the Grand National as we know it today. (They did not produce any Grand Nationals in 1983, only T-Type Regals). One of the features in the Grand National was the Lear Siegler interior front seats embroidered with the Grand National logo. According to the 1984 Buick Press Release became the first in the automotive industry to offer cellular telephones, the newest in mobile communications technology. Developed by AT&T this would provide higher quality mobile communications and makes the service available to millions of users nationwide. The first custom application of cellular telephones will be available as a factory-endorsed dealer option on Buick’s Riviera Coupe. It will first be offered in the Chicago area, where the commercial cellular system is slated to be introduced shortly.
The Buick news for 1984 also reported that 1983 model year was the best sales year in Buick’s 80-year history with sales of more than 800,000 new Buicks. That was an increase of almost 20 percent from the previous year!

PHOTO 2 - The photo to the left shows the 1984 Buick Skyhawk T-Type Coupe. The photo to the right shows the new 1984 Buick Skylark T-Type Coupe. On this model you can see some hints of the Grand National such as the layout of the grille and the black trim against what is a two-tone paint scheme. In my opinion, this was a sharp looking car. I almost bought one of these several years ago that was for sale locally to me.
PHOTO 3 - This photo shows two inside pages of the 1984 High Technology brochure. This was the start of the new state-of-the-art computer controlled coil ignition system. On the 1984 and 1985 models, this electronic coil module was in the front of the turbo engine, and the turbo was in the back in the Regal. In the 1986 and 1987, the design was slightly different and was moved to the back of the engine and the turbo was moved up front.

GAS ECONOMY -
Now with gas the cheapest it has been in several years, not many people are buying cars for their fuel economy. You would think gas savings methods are a relatively new idea.
Recently Eileen bought a “Conoco Mile Dial” off ebay, which has a copyright of 1940. This would be just prior to when automotive production came to a standstill because of us entering World War II.
This has a 3-½” dial that you would mount in your car to calculate your gas mileage. At the top of the dial you would write down the actual current mileage. When you filled up the tank, you move the dial to match the number of gallons you purchased. Next, you subtract the written mileage you wrote down from your latest mileage reading. Take that figure and find it on the inner dial. Turn this figure to line up with total gallons you bought. Now the little window at the top will show you miles per gallon!

1986 T-TYPE FOR SALE -
Another one of our previous Turbo Regals is now up for sale, a 1986 T-Type. I originally sold this car back in 2001.
Ironically I bought this car only about 15 minutes from our home from an owner that had never heard of us.
It is a black 1986 T-Type, a color you don’t often see on a T-Type. It still retains the factory original paint and was also signed by Molly at one of our events. The owner has only driven the car about 25,000 miles since he purchased it. It now has 76,890 miles on it.

TURBO REGAL POWER ANTENNAS UPDATE -
We had our son Darrell make up a sample bracket and template so these new power antennas will bolt into the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals, like the originals.
He installed one in a Grand National that he had painted, and it used this new bracket.
These new power antennas have a manufacturer’s One-year Warranty.
Antennas are actually made for another GM car. They use the same screw-in bezel that sits on the top of the fender, so you can use the original bezel. The 3-wire lead and plug is identical to the original. The new bracket will be bolted to the new antenna. A rubber boot will also come with this new power antenna to protect the motor from the elements.
We expect to have these new power antennas ready to ship before the end of November. If you place your order in advance now, the sale price is $179.95 plus $12 shipping. The retail price once they are available will be $199.95 plus shipping. We would not charge your credit card until we are able to ship the power antenna to you.
This power antenna is not on our website, so you have to call and talk to Christina to get on the list if you want one - 215-766-1611 x 0. By ordering now you save $20. This also gives us a good idea on how many power antennas we need to have initially. We should have production of these shortly.

CORES NEEDED -
Here is the information on our credits for cores.
We currently need original good 1986-1987 AC Delco mass air flow sensors. We allow $25 credit for each core that can be rebuilt. Credit will not be issued until we get your unit back from Cardone showing it was able to be rebuilt. Recent cores have shown that some of them are simply not able to be rebuilt any more.
TURBO CORES must be the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal stock ones. They must be complete. We will issue you a $100 Letter of Credit for each acceptable core.

OEM “FRONT” BUMPER IMPACT CUSHION & THREAD CUTTING NUTS (25) PACK
This is an OEM front bumper impact cushion. This is the first part of the bumper to get hit in any minor accident. You simply remove the bumper to replace this rubber strip. This is 100% identical to the original one.
NOTE - This front bumper impact cushion is black, which is correct for all Grand Nationals and GNX models and is exactly like the original.
For other Turbo models you may want to add the painted strip in the indention to be original.
Each comes with a pack of 25 thread cutting nuts. These are the unique nuts needed to secure the impact cushion to the metal bumper. We also offer this pack of nuts separately, Part #7451.
Our photo shows this front impact cushion at the top. We’ve noted the placement on the front bumper with a red arrow in the middle photo. The inset photo shows the 25 thread cutting nuts, which comes with it.

Here is an inexpensive kit that includes everything you need when you replace the rear brake shoes.
This kit has everything you need for both rear brake drums.
In many cases, due to age you may break some of the springs when you go to remove them to replace the brake shoes.
This kit will virtually fit any GM car that has rear drum brakes, including all the Buick Turbo Regals.

1984-1987 G-Body (Including Buick Turbo Regal - except for GNX wheels) -
CORRECT LOOKING GRAY VALVE STEM CAPS (10) SET
More and more Turbo Regal owners are starting to restore their cars, since the values of original Turbo Regals is on the increase.
One visible small part is the unique style grey valve stem caps that were used on all the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals, except for the GNX.
These are the correct looking valve stem caps for the T wheels and the Grand National wheels. These are not correct for the GNX wheels.
If you have an original spare tire in your trunk, you can check that valve stem cap and the design will look identical to the caps pictured here.
These are the correct style. We did however had to paint them grey to match the original color.
Each car uses 4 valve stem caps for the wheels and 1 for the spare. Our set includes 10 caps, which gives you 2 full sets.
An excellent replacement item for any exterior restoration.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
AFTERMARKET MANIFOLD AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR
Over a period of time, the original manifold air temperature sensor may fail to read accurately, due to age or dirt.
This manifold air temperature sensor gives the computer a reading of the air temperature as it enters the turbocharger. The sensor is capable of reading between -40 and 266F. This is the sensor that mounts in the factory elbow off the air cleaner assembly.

The 1984 Buick Press Kit had several major announcements. First, it talks about Special Editions. To compliment Buick’s participation as the official Car and Sponsor of the Games of the XXIII Olympiad in Los Angeles, Buick offers the Century Olympia Limited Sedan.
This sedan is available in white with subtly classic U.S. Olympic identification on the front fender, deck lid, and hood ornament. Accented with a gold body stripe and gold aluminum wheels, the Olympia also sports a deck lid luggage rack and the tan cloth interior trim headrests is embroidered with the Official U.S. Olympic logo in dark brown.
Also, with the Regals success on the Grand National circuit, a special edition Grand National version of the T-Type will be offered. (Remember the Grand National originally was an option). This was the introduction of the Grand National as we know it today. (They did not produce any Grand Nationals in 1983, only T-Type Regals). One of the features in the Grand National was the Lear Siegler interior front seats embroidered with the Grand National logo. According to the 1984 Buick Press Release became the first in the automotive industry to offer cellular telephones, the newest in mobile communications technology. Developed by AT&T this would provide higher quality mobile communications and makes the service available to millions of users nationwide. The first custom application of cellular telephones will be available as a factory-endorsed dealer option on Buick’s Riviera Coupe. It will first be offered in the Chicago area, where the commercial cellular system is slated to be introduced shortly.
The Buick news for 1984 also reported that 1983 model year was the best sales year in Buick’s 80-year history with sales of more than 800,000 new Buicks. That was an increase of almost 20 percent from the previous year!

PHOTO 2 - The photo to the left shows the 1984 Buick Skyhawk T-Type Coupe. The photo to the right shows the new 1984 Buick Skylark T-Type Coupe. On this model you can see some hints of the Grand National such as the layout of the grille and the black trim against what is a two-tone paint scheme. In my opinion, this was a sharp looking car. I almost bought one of these several years ago that was for sale locally to me.
PHOTO 3 - This photo shows two inside pages of the 1984 High Technology brochure. This was the start of the new state-of-the-art computer controlled coil ignition system. On the 1984 and 1985 models, this electronic coil module was in the front of the turbo engine, and the turbo was in the back in the Regal. In the 1986 and 1987, the design was slightly different and was moved to the back of the engine and the turbo was moved up front.

GAS ECONOMY -
Now with gas the cheapest it has been in several years, not many people are buying cars for their fuel economy. You would think gas savings methods are a relatively new idea.
Recently Eileen bought a “Conoco Mile Dial” off ebay, which has a copyright of 1940. This would be just prior to when automotive production came to a standstill because of us entering World War II.
This has a 3-½” dial that you would mount in your car to calculate your gas mileage. At the top of the dial you would write down the actual current mileage. When you filled up the tank, you move the dial to match the number of gallons you purchased. Next, you subtract the written mileage you wrote down from your latest mileage reading. Take that figure and find it on the inner dial. Turn this figure to line up with total gallons you bought. Now the little window at the top will show you miles per gallon!

Another one of our previous Turbo Regals is now up for sale, a 1986 T-Type. I originally sold this car back in 2001.

TURBO REGAL POWER ANTENNAS UPDATE -
We had our son Darrell make up a sample bracket and template so these new power antennas will bolt into the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals, like the originals.
He installed one in a Grand National that he had painted, and it used this new bracket.
These new power antennas have a manufacturer’s One-year Warranty.
Antennas are actually made for another GM car. They use the same screw-in bezel that sits on the top of the fender, so you can use the original bezel. The 3-wire lead and plug is identical to the original. The new bracket will be bolted to the new antenna. A rubber boot will also come with this new power antenna to protect the motor from the elements.
We expect to have these new power antennas ready to ship before the end of November. If you place your order in advance now, the sale price is $179.95 plus $12 shipping. The retail price once they are available will be $199.95 plus shipping. We would not charge your credit card until we are able to ship the power antenna to you.

Here is the information on our credits for cores.
We currently need original good 1986-1987 AC Delco mass air flow sensors. We allow $25 credit for each core that can be rebuilt. Credit will not be issued until we get your unit back from Cardone showing it was able to be rebuilt. Recent cores have shown that some of them are simply not able to be rebuilt any more.
TURBO CORES must be the 1986-1987 Turbo Regal stock ones. They must be complete. We will issue you a $100 Letter of Credit for each acceptable core.

OEM “FRONT” BUMPER IMPACT CUSHION & THREAD CUTTING NUTS (25) PACK
This is an OEM front bumper impact cushion. This is the first part of the bumper to get hit in any minor accident. You simply remove the bumper to replace this rubber strip. This is 100% identical to the original one.
NOTE - This front bumper impact cushion is black, which is correct for all Grand Nationals and GNX models and is exactly like the original.
For other Turbo models you may want to add the painted strip in the indention to be original.
Each comes with a pack of 25 thread cutting nuts. These are the unique nuts needed to secure the impact cushion to the metal bumper. We also offer this pack of nuts separately, Part #7451.
Our photo shows this front impact cushion at the top. We’ve noted the placement on the front bumper with a red arrow in the middle photo. The inset photo shows the 25 thread cutting nuts, which comes with it.

CORRECT LOOKING GRAY VALVE STEM CAPS (10) SET
More and more Turbo Regal owners are starting to restore their cars, since the values of original Turbo Regals is on the increase.
One visible small part is the unique style grey valve stem caps that were used on all the 1984-1987 Turbo Regals, except for the GNX.
These are the correct looking valve stem caps for the T wheels and the Grand National wheels. These are not correct for the GNX wheels.
If you have an original spare tire in your trunk, you can check that valve stem cap and the design will look identical to the caps pictured here.
These are the correct style. We did however had to paint them grey to match the original color.
Each car uses 4 valve stem caps for the wheels and 1 for the spare. Our set includes 10 caps, which gives you 2 full sets.
An excellent replacement item for any exterior restoration.

1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal -
AFTERMARKET MANIFOLD AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR
Over a period of time, the original manifold air temperature sensor may fail to read accurately, due to age or dirt.
This manifold air temperature sensor gives the computer a reading of the air temperature as it enters the turbocharger. The sensor is capable of reading between -40 and 266F. This is the sensor that mounts in the factory elbow off the air cleaner assembly.

We have heard from a couple people that have had problems with the links in our Inner Circle.
When we check the links, they work fine. However, if you are not able to be directed to the exact website page or internet site, you can "copy" and "paste" the link into the URL in your browser (such as Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, etc.) If it doesn't link in one browser, it may work in another.
Most people having problems are using Internet Explorer… If you are having issues with links, try another browser to see if it works.
You may need to "UPDATE" your browser to be use you are using the current version.
NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS ON THE WEBSITE -
We have heard from a couple people that have viewed the photos on the website. Because these have to be low-resolution photos to work on the Inner Circle segments on the website, any photos of text don't appear clear when enlarged. This is a problem when you are trying to see numbers, such as those on the VIN labels or pages from Options booklet. Also, because of photo reproduction and computer screen variations, the colors may not be true to the actual product or photo.
If you would like to have us email you any photo at the higher resolution for viewing, just email us and we will email them to you. Be sure to be specific on which pictures you want to see - Reference Inner Circle date and photo number 1, 2, 3 or 4 - [email protected]
